God the community can be a childish place at times, and its attitude towards Insem is just one of the many examples of brattish behaviour. Good to see this released. Nice job, Insem + the peeps at Staircase Subs.

Modified the patch to include proper word-wrapping. In other words, copied various .tjs files that were included in the original patch2.xp3 from way-back-when that were not included in this patch's release... for some reason. Use at your own risk?

    Name this VN

Perhaps Hoshizora no Memoria. https://vndb.org/v1474 Not all of the details are accurate. There isn't a specific marriage promise and he doesn't return to marry her. She was a friend he met as a child, love briefly bloomed before he was forced to move away, and upon his return he sets out to search for her, and in her place he finds a mysterious girl who looked just like she did all those years ago. edit: VNDB has the childhood promise tag so maybe I forgot a marriage promise or something.

I am proud to have been part of the Audrey fan club and to have seen such an amazing family devouted to Audrey gather on Fuwanovel, but now it's time we go back to our normal lives. Our badges will forever be embedded in our hearts and we will silently love Audrey until the day we die. Audrey is love. Audrey is life.

  11. To Heart 2 is one of the all time classic original slice of life donkan protagonist harems with a cult following today, even if it is over 10 years old. Positions desired: Translate checker Editors Proofreader Graphic editors Windows scripters Anything else you think you can offer The completely translated To heart 2 translation project is one of the longest running VN translation projects still alive today that still needs people to polish it up to finalise the release. It's a fairly large work spanning 9 routes with 11 different girls and 50+ hours of reading (with 2267 unique kanji, 345512 kanji total, 2.9M kana, roughly 97,000 lines!). I've kept this project alive for over 7 years now and would love to complete it but since I did almost all the translation myself and was not that strong a translator, what the work needs most is a translate checker to bring it up to a higher standard. I'd love to complete this project so that it would free me up to do more translation work on other visual novels instead of coordinating this project for ever more. I'm looking for motivated people who can complete whole routes of translate checking or editing, or ideally can do the whole lot but understand how much work this is (since I know how long it took me to translate the text in the first place). More than half of it has had a 1st pass edit, but that still leaves quite a bit of text needing editing. I don't care if you don't have any experience editing VNs, so long as you have good English language skills, can work with UTF8 text files and have the time to dedicate to doing a large portion of it. Usually I get potential editors to undergo a small editor's test to verify they can do the task. I have an extensive style guide to guide how to edit it. Additionally I need a proofreader who can go over the whole lot looking for remaining errors and discrepancies in style and wording which takes a lot less effort than first pass editing. Optionally if there was someone keen on trying their hand on graphic editing, there are a handful of text-on-graphics screens and icons that could do with being converted to English, and of course quite a few H scenes that could be decensored. Finally if someone is good at creating batch scripts to extract, insert and recompress files in windows to patch the game in place instead of manually copying files across the way my patch currently does, I could use your help. The extraction, insertion and recompression tools already exist. The main reason I haven't included any edited graphics to date is that I would have to upload the entire recompressed data file and would prefer to have an archive with only the edited pictures. While I did a lot of the programming for this project, I'm almost exclusively a linux hacker and take short-cuts when it comes to windows. The translation project thread is below. Please PM me or email me if you wish to help, or come onto IRC irc.rizon.net #aikeshi

  12. PLOT Once upon a time, in a fairytale land, a beautiful ethereal being watched over the living beings that inhabited this realm. Some referred to her as a goddess, others as mother nature. One thing was certain about this being; she cared for and nurtured this world. The creatures that had the most potential for greatness were the elves. They were elegant, tall, blonde, magical, and intelligent. She saw these beings that lived docile lives of blandness. It hurt her to see such wonderful creature neglecting their full potential. She wanted to add some diversity to help them. She borrowed the essence of six other species and spread them through the elves to create the six elemental races of elves. Simply put, light, dark, earth, air, water, and fire. It worked for a short time until disagreement turned into argument, and argument turned into fighting. Prejudice spread and the ethereal being cried for her children. To rectify her mistake, she split her soul, she took a piece of it and created an infant with the essence of light and dark. And then she split her heart to create a charm to watch over the child and sent the beacon of hope down to her people. The stress of this act of love put her into a deep slumber. The elves rejoiced at the blessing and welcomed each other’s differences until a prophecy spoke of salvation or destruction, caused by this mixed child. CHARACTERS MAIN CHARACTER Syphethia She is the main character and is a light elf. She is very kind and caring but can be misunderstood and when angered, she can be quite explosive. She is quite quirky as well and tends to be very different from other light elves. She is rambunctious, rebellious, free spirited, and very curious. Not exactly what you would expect from a perfect princess BACHELORS Kita He is a light elf and the princess's fiance. He is very strange and is always disappearing after receiving a mysterious call. He doesn't seem very nice and is incredible smug. He seems to have some sort of disdain for the princess but always tries to hide it behind a fake smile. He smiles often but it never seems to be authentic. He is shrouded in mystery. Korra He is a waiter at one of the light elf restaurants. He is very kind and social and seems to always be there when this princess is in a bind. His signature facial expression is his big cheesy smile. He has a big secret though. Which would explain his unusual appearance. He also seems to genuinely care for the princess and loves her quirks. He loves having fun and can sometimes be a bit if a flirt. Darc He is a dark elf who is fierce and strong. He may sound rude through his voice and actions but he really is a caring person deep down. Not that he'll ever admit to it. He is a bi r of a tsundere lol. His tongue is sharp but his touch is always gentle. There seems to be a strange connection between him and the princess. He also can not leave someone in trouble. He will complain about it but can't stop himself from helping. Fira He is a hot headed fire elf. He is always full of energy and any little comment could set him off but he would never leave a friend behind or let them get hurt. His emotions are very big in every direction. He feels things a lot more than others. Sadness, anger, joy. All of them go to the extreme. But so does his passion for the people he cares about. Loud and wild, he can be quite a handful. Tessa He is a calm and calculating water elf. He is mature and tends to correct people which makes him seem smug and arrogant which was never his real intention. In actuality he is very caring, just misunderstood for the way he shows it. He has a hard time expressing his feelings or anything else that doesn't involve logic. He tends to say the wrong things often and it comes off in a way he didn't intend it to. He is very good at hiding his emotions as well. Nova He is a free spirited air elf. He is quite eccentric and a bit air headed. Its always hard to understand what he's thinking. He is also extremely shy and easily embarrassed. He is very quite but seems to have a very active mind. Always lost in thought. Though seemingly shy and docile, he is very dependable when it comes down to the important issues. He may prefer peace but will protect those he cares for with his life. EXTRAS Queen Alura She is Syphethia's mother, The queen. She is a quiet and submissive woman. She seems to always be worried about something but will not express her worries. She is always kind and gentle to Syphethia though. King Varin He is Syphethia's Father, the king. He is a dominant, commanding man. He is very controlling and aggressive. He is very secretive and doesn't stand for being disobeyed. Hardly seems to genuinely care for the princess. Dina She is the sister of Darc who is even more violent than her brother. She is flirtatious and has a fiery attitude but still love her brother dearly whether she shows it or not. Though she is violent, she doesn't get angry often. Her violence is how she has fun. She jokes around a lot and can be very sexual at times. Her favorite pass time is teasing her brother. Tierra She is a cute and adorable young girl. She is a half breed mixed with a air elf and a water elf. she is a little ball of energy and loves to have fun. She also cares very deeply about the people she comes to trust. 17. Maybe I'm just too dense to notice it, but I don't think there are any "big" allegories or complications that you should be looking for or be worried about, in Inganock. My feeling from both Inganock and Gahkthun was that the Steampunk series is actually about telling rather simple stories about human emotions and motivations, using a big, fantastic setting and somewhat complicated plot to really bring out the most of that emotional impact. At any rate, fiction is a work of art created by an author and a reader - so don't let me or anybody else take away from it what you found there

  18. For no reason in particular, I feel it necessary to remind everyone that as one gets older, one's hearing worsens with age. That is to say, once you're past a certain age, pretty much anything you hear, rumours, for instance, is no more than utter bogus. For yet another non particular reason, I'll quote Rooke in this post of mine.

  19. Yes, the timing is most unfortunate, but this is not an Aril Fool's joke and I think it deserves everyone's attention given the deadline is today. In sum: The organization Fight for the Future publicized the fact that the US government is currently taking feedback on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, also known as DMCA. Video for those that don't like reading: They are accepting comments from all over the world, not just the USA. This is the perfect time to actually make a change on this outdated law that in recent years has screwed over content creators and has been abused to silence people countless times by corporations and, if you follow YouTube drama, even has been used by random individuals to troll channels with absolutely no repercussions. Outside of videos, the DMCA is constantly abused to threaten websites. If you care about things like Fair Use, now is the time to act. So what do you do now? Visit this page and write your comment: http://takedownabuse.org/ Preferably take the time to write a personalized comment with a good amount of attention to detail. The more the better, but quality is also important. And of course, share the page wherever you can in order to bring more people to send a comment. Hopefully for once we can make a change.

  20. I find that the most believable depictions in VNs of realistic relationships involve blackmail and subjugation. Relationships are complicated, but application of power is fairly straightforward. NTR games tend to be a tad more realistic as well.

  23. I actually tried watching this vid, couldn't make it to the end..... the cringe was real. I still think that this is completely ridiculous, no one in their right mind would ever consider a "dating sim" to contain any decent info on dating in real life. It's kinda like saying that I'm now ready to fight in the middle east because I played several matches of a FPS or that I can run a farm because I made a hundred grand in stardew valley. Sure it may give a VASTLY general idea about the subject, but I wouldn't want to be operated on by a brain surgeon that only knows that the brain is located in the skull and nothing else about the organ.

  24. As someone who's watched GameTheory for like a year now, I am very, very saddened by these 2 latest videos. The bottom line is: There's no secret flawless formula to dating, just meet people you can feel comfortable around and form bonds with them. Don't assume it's a set of specific choices that will magically make them fall in love with you like in a game. Yes, there are some things you can do to make people like you more, but love will come as long as you're not a jerk about it. As for me, I am happily married to my anime pillow. Also don't spend your money on dating books and online courses. Seriously. Don't. You're better off spending your time watching random shit getting crushed by a hydraulic press.

As a follow-up from the post above From what I recall, there was a poll for the most liked character which was Miu. So Insem decided to translate her last since people would otherwise -possibly- only read her route and move on if he released her route first as a partial patch. The rest is in the post above. Been a while since that poll so correct me if I'm wrong. Post: http://staircasesubs.com/2012/07/02/common-route-complete/ Edit: Added link to the post in question.

I see no reason why it's bad, I personally love the route and heroine the most The move from friends to a couple was best implemented in my opinion The actual icha icha is brilliant, although it pales in comparison to Rio, but everything does. The route does make some changes to Yuuto's personality and it's a little more chuuni than the rest of the game, but I see it as a positive Overall it's the perfect blend of every factor to me As for Insem's reason, he stated that he TL'd the other routes first and when came Miu's turn, he just didn't have the time nor the motivation to finish translation of the route. Insem also stated that it was Miu as a character why he started this TL project in the first place. So it was the circumstances, not the shortcomings that made the final decision

  31. It's decoded in 'BGM.arc' file, but sadly I couldn't extract it with any program I have. I also play it little by little. In last few days I watched whole House Of Cards season 4, whole Heroes Of Might and Magic campaign on youtube (around 45 hours), and read maybe 6 hours of I/O... but I still feel, that I/O cost me the most. But it's great, I love how focus demanding it is. And yeah, keep me in fear of route E. Can't wait to see that! I don't really like structure though. Although it fits with setting moe straightforward aproach than all those 1.0 and 0.1 ending and then also routes " ' " is just...unnecessary.

  37. I actually looked up things a bit when Rooke posted that, and it turns out it's due to a lot of women possess four types of retinal photopigments (instead of the usual three), which seems to be proven to improve to some degree the ability to distinguish colors. But whether that allows to differentiate slight changes of shades is not completely clear because the way - or, most probably, the ways - we process colors is not well elucidated yet. Basically there's a difference in "tetrachromats" but there's no clear consensus on what exactly it is. Science that is less than a decade old is always to be taken with a critical eye, because it's liable to change pretty fast, and that's even more true about biology/neurosciences. That's interesting. There's been enough attacks and proofs against the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis that only weak versions of it are sustainable but I've always entertained the idea that there must be some amount of truth in it, so it's cool to see that there's some evidence for stuff like that. I'm not sure that just teaching yourself color names will allow you to separate them better though. A pretty obvious factor in color-related abilities is that you'll develop them if you need them (brain plasticity etc), but the names themselves would need to be attached to concrete examples and be used often.

Unfortunately I'm not much of a writer and I have the drawing abilities of a 5 year old so I have no services to offer () but I'm definitely interested to see where this one goes. Best of luck!

  40. Tokyo Babel is pretty swell. I already read Raziel's route, I just couldn't stop partway. Here's some random non-spoilery impressions, partly because I'm tired and partly because I feel it's important to hype good new VNs. Tokyo Babel is damn cool. Character and monster designs, chuuni dialog, fight scenes... Tension, excitement and "Hell Yeah"-feelings are really strong most of the time. The music is really good, both the melancholic pieces and the high-tension battle music. It's surprisingly humorous. Some amount of humor is always expected, but Tokyo Babel manages to be really hilarious at times, and in a way that doesn't distract from the serious parts. The setting is really fascinating in Tokyo Babel and so are it's themes. Since the setting is based on Christian mythology it should come as no surprise that it's filled with religious themes, but at times Tokyo Babel managed to still really impress me. Without going to too much detail, there's some pretty intriguing stuff about topics like faith, immortality, and of course reason for being -- "raison d'être". Oh yeah, the translation is top notch too. It sounds very natural during normal conversations as it should, and more importantly suitably theatrical when it needs to. So yeah, it's great. I can't wait to see what the other routes have to offer.

Insem is hilarious and he gets more hate than he deserves. If you know JP then instead of bitching about him holding the scripts hostage then just go ahead and pick up the project. It's as easy as that and it won't be the first time two translation projects exist for a VN.

Seriously, all I see is hate for the Sakura series. Why? Because it's popular? Or because you think they're milking the series? Well, that's subjective, so we can argue about it all day long and never come to a conclusion. The Sakura series is still a piece of creative art, and we need to at least show it that much respect. All right, I will just come right out and say it. The Sakura series actually introduced me to the visual novel genre. It will always have a special place in my heart, yet you all just keep sh*ting on it. Every damn post guys. It makes me so , and I have been trying to hold it in, but I can't contain it anymore. Screw this. I am going to post one final picture here, then maybe some of you will actually have a change of heart and realize the Sakura series in fact deserves a lot of respect:

  46. Edelweiss got some laughs out of me. To tell you the truth, I would have been satisfied if there was a full route dedicated to staying single and hanging out with your bros. Those guys were hilarious -- more than wingmen, they were their own unique characters who made for a great comedic trio. (To clarify, however, I'm hesitant to claim Edelweiss as a "great visual novel" by that virtue alone. Regarding the focus of the game, the girls themselves, it pretty much fell flat for me.)
