    ACEN: Ryukishi07

So I figured I'd make a post here just to give some information on Ryukishi07. He is one of the special guests at ACEN (Anime central) this year. I'm a terrible writer but figured I'd give some information/highlights that I got from one of his panels today. Also, I'm crazy tired so I'll clean it up later. Tomorrow, I'll either update this post or just add a new one about his new game announcement. So first, some pictures. Please forgive my photography, I don't have very steady hands. Here is his panel slideshow (yeah.... he only had one slide) Here are a few pictures of him. Again, unorganized list of interesting points, will be cleaned up later. The main discussions of his panel was related around his writing of Higurashi and Umineko. The writing style that he uses is a bit different than most. Instead of creating outlines and having expectations for his endings, he has a more fluid free writing system. He will often write without having any idea how he is going to end his stories. One of the biggest influences for writing was his friend BT. He would write out ideas and provide them to him to see how he would respond. His goal was often to create surprise in his staff and readers (As I'm sure any of us are aware of if seeing any of his work). An interesting story that he told us was that when creating Higurashi, he was actually very influenced by the film "Independence Day". At one point, he was actually trying to find a way to make them fight aliens. (thank god he didn't). Apparently, there is a section where Keiichi and Rika are preparing for a fight, and that was taken from a scene in that movie. (Never seen the movie... I know, I'm horrible). Ever since then, he has a strict rule of not consuming content when writing. He is a big zombie fan... though not so much Japanese zombies. He likes the way they portray zombies in the West. Also.... He's not apposed to the idea of creating a game where zombies go for girls panties. (Yes, I'd play that too) With characters, he always has 2 sides to them. The example he used was Rika. She comes of a young, cute, and super sweet. However, when alone, she is actually quite different. He also avoids telling how characters feel. Instead of telling you, he likes to convey their emotions and motives through their words and actions. He feels that by doing so, it builds a better connection as it is your interpretation. It also prevents having a very solid baseline so he can throw you for a loop later. An interesting question that was asked was about the setting for Higurashi. He got the idea for the setting after reading Seishi Yokomizo's "The Village of Eight Graves". (That was a interesting fun fact). Now for some Umineko information. (FYI, It's on my to play list, so this is even more of a text dump than anything else). Umineko was fun for him because of the fact that there was so much feedback after each game he came out with. He actually would go through all the feedback he could to see how people were responding to his game. Umineko actually turned into a game for him as well. As the readers were taken down different paths, he got to enjoy how they responded and created fun for them as well. One thing I found unique was that he actually changed the 3rd game. Originally, there was a character that was introduced in the 5th game. This was actually intended to be the 3rd but he didn't want to drive everyone into despair. The last thing I have was a fun "quote" from his panel. Granted, everything he said was through a translator (my Japanese isn't good enough yet) but it stuck out to me. "The sadistic edge of writing is important". I think this can be interpreted in a lot of ways. He really made it apparent that the writing itself is his inspiration. It could be the sadistic part is the feedback from his audience, or even the content of his works. However, I think one thing is for certain. From what I have experienced of his works, they are amazing and I look forward to giving an update on his new game tomorrow. Hope at least someone found this useful. Please chalk up all errors to my horrible writing, note taking, or poor tolerance for sleep deprivation and alcohol. EDIT: Part 2 Here- http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/10153-acen-ryukishi07/#entry282310

    Give Me Piano Music!

Okay, summer's upon me, and now I'm going to have a lot more time to...do nothing. I work, I play the piano, and I sit on my computer at work. Well, you guys can help with one of those things: I'm seeking piano sheet music from your favorite visual novels. I could find plenty of stuff myself, but I want to see what the community wants. I plan to either record video or audio, and upload it to YouTube to share with the community. So link me the sheets either here or in a PM, and I'll get to playing it! I may or may not also be using these as ideas for Ren's competition...

  5. Have you ever been browsing around the forums and read a quote which you think should remain for all eternity? In a small experiment I thought about on a random whim, I thought about making a place where you can share them! These should have no need of heavy context, but feel free to link to them if you so rather. If a person has publicly posted on a forum then it obviously means you can share said quotes publicly, on said forum. As such, and to start it off, I'll start with myself alone. Tiago's Narcissistic Quotes of Glory: Well, I have more. If you want... Join my worshiping temple! Now then, please share your, or others', Quotes of Glory! PS: Mods, feel free to send the taskforce to quickly take this thread down if you think it will cause degradation of public morals.

    [Poll]Fuwa Blogs

What a thoughtful and constructive piece of information. I've been struggling to get any sleep, tossing and turning because I wasn't sure if atorq cared enough to read my blog. This brings closure to that quandary for me. Thank you. In other words, maybe try to not sound like such a dick when posting a little feedback. A simple, "I don't really find anything interesting on the blog, so I don't use it" would have been a better way to get the same point across.

  8. I don't know why people bash on the anime so much. I mean if you haven't read the VN, sure, you probably wont like it, half the stuff won't make sense and it'll just look like a simple harem comedy with a little action. However, having read the VN I found it to be pretty funny, and it was pretty nice seeing some of the VN animated, plus a little more that wasn't in the original game. The whole harem thing wasn't a big deal to me, and I love that . It was also a pleasant surprise to have the original VA's come back for it. Plus we get to see a naked Takae cuddle a naked Saki

    Song Covers

So between Ren's new music thread and my recent projects on Youtube, I thought it would be fun to start a thread about something music-related that hasn't been covered (ha ha) yet. So use this thread to share any good cover songs you find, whether they're your own or someone else's that you find online. To start off, I'll do one of each: one of my own, and one that I really enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7GT4tFcCWA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPicFTL66Tw For the record, these don't have to be VN or anime related. English songs count too!

    Bullet Butlers: Intro

Bullet Butlers: An Introduction Bullet Butlers has one of the more interesting fantasy settings that I've seen in a VN. Think film noir combined with elves, lizardmen, orcs, and magic and you won't be far off. The guy you see above is Rick Arrowsmith, the protagonist of the story and butler to one of the potential heirs of the draconic Mystic One (spiritual - not necessarily physical - descendants of the heroes who defeated the Undead King who serve as symbols of God's favor). Now, Bullet Butlers was made by Propeller, the same company that made Ayakashibito and my long-lasting favorite VN - Evolimit. If there is one thing that some people might have noticed about Ayakashibito, it is that, to an extent, the heroines were less than satisfactory (from a moe-addict's point of view) and yet they still liked it... now why was that? It is a simple fact that the story in each heroine's path far surpasses the attraction of the heroine herself, that's why. lol This is actually a quality that is present in all four of Propeller's really good action VNs (Ayakashibito, Bullet Butlers, Evolimit, and Tokyo Babel) but is especially evident in this one. The main reason? Two out of the three heroines are abysmally unattractive, lol. That said, their paths on the other hand, show the flair that made me fall in love with this company and still gets my hopes up even now, despite two major kusoge flops in a row. This VN has a ridiculous amount of gratuitous violence in it, which is a reflection of the violence of the world they are living in. It is a world where death-worshiping cultists fight policemen in the streets, and where it is a matter of course for a security detail to drag half its number out in body bags... or in urns full of ashes scraped off the road. It is a world where men use magic to summon bullets into their guns and some guns can launch lightning or fire instead of simple solid slugs. Betrayal, murder, and general mayhem punctuate just about every major turn in the story... and to top it off, the protagonist's gun is eating his soul. This VN stands out as being significantly different both from Ayakashibito and the others that followed in atmosphere... but at heart, it is still Propeller at its best.

  18. Well, the issue is without reading/watching the original you are only left with bare fanservice and not much of a story. You would have no clue as to why people act that way. The anime is pandering only to people who have read the VN and not the general audience.

  23. Definitely this. I think this club is more about sharing the experience of a game rather than being completionist or forcing people to put in more time than they want to. I enjoyed the heck out of all that I played of this game, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to it to 100% it.

  24. As I haven't read many VNs with harem in i'll just mention of those I know. Sharin no Kuni Himawari no Shoujo this will be the only VN that I'll mention that I can recommend properly, it's a great VN but the "harem" route is very loose as in you can barly call it a harem end, I can't really recommend reading it if you just want a harem route cause it's not worth it just for that, still a great VN. Koihime Musous is a decent VN with a harem end, I haven't finished yet and I can't say I would recommend it outside of it has a harem end, it has tons of sex scenes, enough to fall on borderline nukige, it's decent but there is better out there. Imouto Paradise Now this one is stricly a nukige, so recommendations comes as far as it's a good nukige with cute girls and a few different fetishes and a harem end that I have only played through partially.

  25. First i watch anime and after first episode was like "wow its realy good!" then two episodes later they start to show off boobsnstuuf and i was like "okay..." and then the "mushroom" festival happened.... But after i played VN i found myself likeing anime, becase there was never explained characters, their motto and stuff, but once you learn them, it could pretty well be a nice bonus to VN.

  30. Late reply, my bad. Plenty of new parts, new resource mining on planets, new plane parts including mk.3 parts. Fairings, and a brand new aerodynamics model along with rentry heating. Gone are the days where you could go straight up until 70,000 meters and do a turn. Now, an actual gravity turn is required almost right at the start of the launch, and the aero model will kill you if the rocket is built with too much drag. I had to be really really careful and it took a lot of trial and error to get it right,.

  34. So just a quick update for anyone who actually follows this thread: I have now fixed every reported error for the first game. These fixes still need testing, which will be done either whenever I feel like it or whenever someone volunteers. As soon as the routes are confirmed good, I will release an updated pac file with the new scripts. The errors in the uncensor patch that some pointed out will most likely remain, however. There is little we can do because of how the game stores the files, though helvetica did what he could before we released initially. Blame minatosoft. Also, adding this note: Some people reported errors from the Yandere patch. We have no intention to fix these errors, or search for more. However, if someone wants to do a thorough QC of the yandere patch, compile a detailed list of errors, and send them to me, hit me up in private and we'll work it out. I have no problem fixing them, but I don't want to fix just a handful and leave a bunch of others and have to do all this again later.

'well, I'm gay' 'lol' WAIT WHAT?!@#5EYIOERJLG@#$% ~~ Nothing changed in our friendship of course, minus one little thing: instead of me going 'yo do you think that girl's hot?' 38. So I've watched plenty of anime and read plenty of manga in the past years and I've started to notice a trend that has been developing in the course of all those years. When I began watching anime, in terms of romance anime, I was always hyped to see the protagonist with the main love interest, maybe because I was naive and just liked thinking "aw they like each other they should be together". But after a few hundred anime watched, I often now start off despising main love interests and always end up turning to the love rivals, even the ones I know have 0 chance of getting with the main character. And it's begun to pain me in the sense that nowadays most of the heroines I like and find interesting are never the main romantic interest and I can never bring myself to like the actual main interest most of the time. I always feel like the main interest is now plagued with tropes that make them appealling to the general public but to me they just feel like carbon copies, like hollow shells that have little personality and character depth, and I've started to become tired of a lot of the heroines I now see as main interests in the genre which makes for watching a lot of anime with romantic plots quite the painful task sometimes. Of course this is not to say I can't like all main heroines, there's always exceptions, but the majority really follows the trend. I feel like, while I genuinely usually only try to look at a character's personality, I can't help but notice that a lot of times rivals, just because they are rivals, or are characters with less chances to get with the MC, genuinely become more interesting to me based on their position in the story. This is also a major reason I've turned to VNs, so all my love for non main heroines can be fulfilled (at least in most cases). Does anyone feel this way? Do you find yourself liking the main heroine or the side heroines more?
