  1. I've waited almost a year for this. Finally. I'm sure it'll be glorious. Now then. This year, I'll celebrate Easter by sharing my genuine and honest opinion of many Fuwanovel members. Mostly those I happen to remember. You can also request it yourself if I don't mention you by default. A fair warning, whilst I don't often think ill of someone, there are some I might. A thousand apologies. Besides that, I also have a little game (some of you may remember it, I tried it our last year, but due to circumstances, was unable to finish it). I've updated it a little (though most characters are still out of date), and this time I do have the solutions! If you've been pinged in this post, you're probably in there, unless you aren't. Can you find yourself? Each image represents a member (or two). Can you guess them all? GUESS WHO: Anything you say about this must be in spoilers. Many things can be seen as clues, so I'm adamant about this. Besides that, onwards to opinions. These are in a brainstorm thoughtspill format. Not coherent. Too bad. For you. OBJECTIVE OPINIONS OF FUWANOVEL PLEBS: Most of those people are in the egg. Some people in the egg aren't there. This all said, here's the solution, but be sure to at least try first. Even though some are pretty much impossible to guess. EGG SOLUTION: Now I'm off to have lunch and realise I forgot something really important. Happy Easter, people!

  13. I like people that like me. I'm uneasy when people I like don't like me back. That's an interesting line of thought that expresses a truth of human nature. However, it is worth asking: why? We end up shackling ourselves to the caprice of others. If the goal is intellectual gain and the pursuit of truth, we should select our companions not by their attitudes toward us but by the value of their companionship. Often what we need is not someone who will compliment our mistakes, but someone who will point them out and show us the path we hadn't considered. I revisited that PM. We had a useful discussion and I don't regret it in the slightest. If anything, I think we came to an understanding, which is rare on such topics. I'd rather see you chime in on controversial topics more often than hold your tongue for fear of offending someone. I like you, but I don't have much interaction with you because you tend to stay in the background in the conversations I participate in.

  14. We don't expect you to be purely objective. It helps to be able to look at all of the qualities of any given game and to give it its dues where it deserves it, even if you don't like it. Or to be able to dissect the flaws in games you love. But ultimately, reviews are based on your personal opinions, and at least going by what Ryechu always told me, we actually prefer it if your own personal opinions and feelings on a game take the highest priority in your evaluation, as long as you justify it. That's how the GGN games got such high scores and Little Busters got such a low score. Ikikoi is a VN that is widely panned by the community. "Ikikoi is the greatest VN ever made, screw the haters," or something to that effect stretched out to 1000+ words, isn't particularly informative or interesting to read. "Ikikoi is a great game despite its flaws, here are its flaws and why I don't mind them, and here's why I especially love this game" is something we'd be interested in posting. "Ikikoi isn't even flawed, but misunderstood, allow me to explain that what people see as flaws are actually strengths for this brilliant masterpiece." You're some unholy abomination but fine, you can write that, too! If you like Ikikoi but your review is "Ikikoi is a bad game because of all of these flaws, I liked it but all of these qualities only make it a 4/10 game, objectively speaking," then that's just boring in my eyes. I personally don't want to see anything like that. Anyways, I hope that paragraph of nonsense makes sense. SolidBatman can feel free to tell me if I'm way off base here. I wasn't ever really briefed very thoroughly on the guidelines, however. I was just sort of brought in and started doing my thing, and apparently that's what they wanted? I don't really know what bats means when he says overly wordy for example. edit: And when we say "don't pull any punches" we mean "don't water down your words in fear of hurting people's feelings," not "tear into every game."

  15. NO BUMPING! I'd be really jazzed if ChuableSoft was their new partner. The president that I talked with on Twitter seemed like a chill dude, and it's nice to see a company actually going out of their way to get their stuff localized. I know nothing about the average quality of their VNs' writing, but the art is pretty nice-looking, and that can sucker me into checking something out. Their interest in the west merits a purchase as a reward for their effort, IMO.

  17. Actually talking about Ley Line for a bit, the first game's translation has been practically in a finished state for pretty much a year now. I'd be surprised if it takes longer than a month or two from this point to make it onto Steam. What's left to be done with it? They also started progress on the sequel before they stopped tracking progress entirely, and by this point that may be almost done as well? Hopefully we actually see a fast release schedule for this series. And congrats to Kohaku for actually managing to get paid for this. ~~~ Gonna bump the thread to talk and speculate about the next major convention MangaGamer is attending, Anime Central. According to MangaGamer's announcements page, they've already slotted in two announcements, including a VN from a new partner. Since I was so good at predicting ImoPara 2 (what an amazing prophet I am), I will now bestow upon you all my next prediction: Watashi ga Suki nara "Suki" tte Itte! from ChuableSoft. Remember last July when the president of ChuableSoft was engaging english fans on twitter, asking us what we'd like to see from them? And we basically got him to get in touch with the major VN publishers here? Basically, I'd be surprised if nothing ever came of that, and it's about time for an announcement to be made. I suspect that it may be MG's new partner announcement at Anime Central. Let's wait and see. edit: Or I guess I'm NOT going to bump this thread. Thanks for nothing, nazi mods.

  18. 5 languages? September release? Yeah, sure. I am 99 years old, I'll turn 100 tomorrow. I'm not that dumb to believe it, unless it's machine tl(maybe a bit polished) or bad translation. Otherwise the guy(s) should already work translating games, with that speed.

  20. So I finally made to 1000 posts...none of you care, but I'm still gonna make this post for the percentage of you that will look at this post. I arrived here in early October. October 12th to be exact and it took me a while to adapt to this community. Once that happened, I spammed my way to 500 posts on January 27th. By that point, I really only talked to people in the chat at that point and sometimes with people in PMs and the forums and now, I've talked to a lot of you in some way. I've had a lot of fun in these forums because of the people I will be mentioning later on and will continue to have fun in the future. This site has changed me in some way. Before these forums, I didn't have any motivation to learn Japanese and was a complete vanilla fag and after a few months here, I am very slowly on my way to learning Japanese (I blame school and/or my laziness) and am now enjoying rape hentai. Now before some of you call the cops on me for saying that, I will now thank some people that I feel deserve mentioning. Also, I will be mentioning some people more than once and yes, you are free to make multiple yaoi fanfics about it @mitchhamilton. First of all, my spam chat group that started as a plan to spam Fuwanovel with @Dergonu and @CeruleanGamer quickly became a place to chat. I usually spend most of my time in these forums there because of some of the people who are regulars. Those regulars are @Arcadeotic, @DarkZedge, @Nashetania, @Kiriririri, @Kawasumi, and @TexasDice and then there are the people who show up once in a while like @Deep Blue, @XReaper, @Canicheslayer, @Funyarinpa, @Vorathiel, and @Okarin. You guys have made the chat fun to participate in even if you spam way too much to keep up with all the posts. We also added @Kaguya and @Clephas recently and hopefully you guys will post often. Now for the mod team @Nosebleed, @Down, @Kaguya, @Eclipsed, @Zenophilious, @Flutterz, and @Kurisu-Chan. You guys have done a great job keeping these forums in check and I hope you continue doing that. I've talked with some of you on occasion in the Phase PM group so I don't know you as well as I could but I hope to talk with you a lot more now that I've actually started talking to people on this site. Here's to @Kaguya winning the mod war and I'm not sorry for stealing borrowing your gimmick @Kurisu-Chan. Next, the VNTL crew of @Tay, @Decay, and @Zakamutt. I've been reading VNTL since April and I've enjoyed all the posts you make on them. I've barely talked to any of you and I hope to in the near future as long as @Nosebleed doesn't break the forums again. #blameNosebleed And finally, for the chat group of @greenshadow622, @Velociraptor, @Flutterz, @Ayana, @gijimu, and I can't currently remember the rest so if I forgot you, I don't care. Obvious sarcasm aside, you guys have made the chat fun to be in. I enjoyed all those pointless discussions about our masturbation habits and politics. And with that, my post is complete. Again, thank you for making these forums fun for me and I hope to have a lot more fun in the future.

  21. That sounds like a great idea! In other to be completely fair I've made a list of every single member on this website and numbered them. Next, I've brought up a random number generator to decide who to get a gift for. As it turns out, my name came out! Entirely randomly and fairly. Guess I'll have to buy myself a gift them. Oh, of course I count.! I used a random number generator and I'm a person on the internet. That absolutely makes me a "random person on the internet". Ah, curse my short attention span! I didn't get to read the bolded statement before buying myself a gift. I guess it's too late now. As for those extra years, feel free to have them! I always give to the needy, and you clearly look like you need as many extra years as you can get, at this point. I won't elaborate too much, but I'm mostly referring to how Sekai, to the most part, isn't looking to cater to the Eroge Fanbase at all. They're trying to get the steam crowd, a perfectly valid target, and most of those care not for H-Scenes (and would actually be repulsed by them... probably, I don't really know). This present Fuwa loves their H-Scenes. How dare Sekai put the H-Scenes on the backburner?! How dare they make an All-Ages version for those who prefer one?! In a different topic, how dare they use kickstarter as a method to gauge interest! Those bastards who keep reinvesting their money and then making kickstarters. They must be filthy rich by now, greedy rascals. I'm exaggerating, of course. Even from my point of view I think Sekai's business decisions are not always sound, but I'm wholly against how everyone around here seems to hate on them or their kickstarters. Nobody's managed to convince me they truly are evil incarnate yet. I just think it's too easy convincing me. Every argument I get into I find myself agreeing to the other side's point of view or just saying "Well, that's subjective, so I can't really deny it.". I never get anywhere when I argue. I will keep it in mind that I should maybe think about getting into an argument sometime, although I wouldn't hold my breath. Unlike you, I don't go on the internet in scholarly pursuit of knowledge or enlightenment.

  22. why are you talking about fate route here?

  23. Mostly on /jp/. I think Dovac's Steam-centric focus has been a reasonable business decision, personally. His challenge to people that want more AO stuff is also reasonable, if you want it, buy it. I'd rather they do this. There's less narration in manga (almost non-existent) and less dialogue overall. People pay attention to the writing less. The manga medium suits dodgy writers like them more than the VN medium. Go do manga, Winged Cloud.

  26. The truth is, we put numerical score because it maximizes the amount of salt produced by our reviews. Aside from the few people that are actually really mad that we use numerical scores (they're a great source of fine-grained salt), a lot of people wouldn't bother to read the review anyway and just look at the score. We can make all those people mad too, isn't that great?

  40. It went really well! I was going to post last night, but, well... Anyway, I was up so late that despite not getting anywhere near enough sleep, I just now got settled in front of a computer again briefly (before, of course, heading back to the con shortly). My biggest fear was that nobody would show up, but the opposite happened: the crowd was so big that people had to be turned away at the door! So that's a little sad, but on the other hand, I had a big, interested group of people. Also, apparently they had a projector malfunction in that room and no replacement, so my slides were up on a depressingly tiny 32" TV screen. Thankfully the room wasn't that big, so people were able to read the large text of my slides (which I'm quite certain of because the whole room was laughing at both the second Steam slide and the Steins;Gate slide well before I said anything). But I think the game screenshots were probably illegible, so things like my Grisaia Somalia reference and my closing joke didn't play as well as they should have. The presentation itself went off really well - by my own lights, I did better on each topic than I did in any of my rehearsals. I must've talked at light speed, though, since I was apparently done in ~30 minutes... but whatever, people didn't seem to mind. I did the eye contact thing; it clearly worked. The Q&A section went for about 10 minutes, and revealed a pretty diverse crowd: I had a passionate otome fan who had played pretty much everything she could get her hands on and was looking for new stuff. She was mostly interested in the importing + fan TL side of things, and we had a little chat after the panel was over. I mentioned that I'd been planning to pick up Hakuoki soon, and her eyes lit up. I had another female who had a friend that was trying to get her into VNs, but only knew about JList, and she was loth to spend $80 and wait a month to play something. So, she was very happy to hear about all the more affordable options I'd laid out. I had a /r/visualnovels redditor who helped me out with a couple additional pointers about the reddit VN community, and who grilled me about my basis for believing the Grisaia translation to be better-written than the original Japanese (my answer: I can understand a lot of the original dialog, and it's clearly not as colorful as koestl's translation) I had the three people who, for the last few years, had been hosting a kind of "what are visual novels" panel at SakuraCon. I actually ran into them early at the Sekai Project line and asked why they weren't running the panel this year, and the main guy said "I forgot about the deadline. But it looks like somebody else is doing a panel, so I guess it worked out ok". That of course elicited a chuckle and a "That's me". They were quite helpful, especially in fielding some audience questions - clearly a lot more experienced than I am. I was chatting briefly before the panel with the SakuraCon volunteer who was running ops for my panel; when I mentioned I was running the only visual novel fan panel at SakuraCon, it turned out that he had no idea visual novels existed, and assumed that I was using some weird name for graphic novels. He got into it enough that he asked a question during the Q&A session too All told, the room was at capacity with 25 attendees. I had two people leave near the end (maybe they had somewhere to be at 11; still hurts a bit), but the rest of the crowd seemed really into it, sticking around all the way through the end of the Q&A, and I got a couple big rounds of applause. I walked out in company with the friend I'd brought along (who had never played more than a little bit of F/SN before deciding it wasn't for him, but who I apparently completely sold on picking up Grisaia; I really thought Comyu would be more his speed since he loves mecha...), as well as the past-year panelists and a few other random people, all of whom were chatting about ancient VN lore I knew nothing about. It was a great vibe, and I'm really happy that, even if those people didn't get anything from my presentation directly, I provided a venue for them to meet up and chat. So, yeah, it was an absolute blast, and I definitely achieved my goal of bringing knowledge to a few more people and helping the community grow a little bit.

  42. A) Nayleen takes care of the server and most of the tech stuff. He’s very important to Fuwa cause he keeps the place running. That is why he's 'admin'. B) He was also an admin a couple of years ago. C) The first page of this thread was cut from Ren’s thread in the fan translation forum, so you’re likely missing context. D) He’s had over a thousand posts, so if you don’t see him around it’s because you’re not around

    Welcome Back?

Hi I'm back too. As of now. Things that happened in my life since I left: 1. Moved back to America and then across America from WA to IN 2. Got a job that works all the hours. All the hours. However there is no take home stress and it's doing something I love so I don't care and the money is good so I'm very content. 3. Got engaged and will soon be married. Girlfriend not only does not know much about anime but I think she just legitimately does not like non-child-oriented animated things (IE she loves Disney but hates Archer) and has only watched a few anime things to humor me. That said she is understanding of my interests and we share a lot of interests outside anime so it's fine. 4. Quit video games for good and then un-quit them. 5. Decided that I needed folks to talk about anime and Japanese games and VNs with after all and came back to Fuwanovel because this place is great.
