  1. Hello! I am an illustrator and I love graphic novels and I especially love drawing concept art, character designs and background works. I would love to be involved in a VN project in the future. These are a few examples. I am very stylistic but I can easily tweak my art to fit a specific style and I work well with deadlines. I work with Sai, Photoshop, and After Effects so I can animate as well. If you would like more examples of my artwork or would like to see something specific PM me, please. Thank you.

  2. I find that it's very often when someone thinks they know what an artist truly intends, and how their art is "meant to be," that they are way off. This goes for a lot of the censorship conversations that have been making the rounds, lately. Please try to avoid getting into the mindset of "They're ruining the original vision, this isn't how it's meant to be!" because you REALLY don't know. You do not have a better idea of how something is meant to be than the original creators.

  3. Mmm... probably because mosaic-censoring has become a part of otaku H-artist culture. For better or worse, the Japanese are fundamentally 'conservative', in the sense that they hate changes in the status quo. In her mind, the 'censored' form is the form it is meant to be in, most likely. Edit: I hate to say it, but I actually understand the mentality that would drive that kind of thinking. Basically the thought would be 'this is the line I don't step over, and if I do, I am a true degenerate', and by Japanese industry standards, it would be unethical for an artist to produce uncensored hentai art.

  5. So, time to get hyped. The finale will be split into two parts, the first part coming out on saturday and the final chapter will come out one week after! There is 10 remaning fighters, and of course, the three GMs. All rules limiting the GMs from fighting have been lifted, and the chapters will feature the GMs fighting both each other and the members. It will be an epic battle royale type situation. The remaining warriors are:

  6. Judging from this thread, It seems a lot of people don't really understand the actual reasons behind the japanese censorship. Everything goes back to the Meiji period; Meiji Restoration basically almost banned pornography due to heavy goverment pressure. After WWII, pornography was 'banned' through the Obscenity Law, but still allowed through freedom of expression, guaranteed by the law itself; what people got in the end was a weird kind of paradox, where dicks and vaginas can literally fly on the screen, as long as they stay censored and this censorship involved putting mosaics onto them. What people seem to forget it's still a law. A lot of artists don't want to cross the line, not because they can't or aren't willing to, but because they are afraid of facing a charge for obscenity, which usually results in very high fines. It's not surprising, many artists like Sayori simply don't want to risk getting into legal actions and would rather self-censorship their works... which is what plenty of studios do. With time, it simply became a habit to censor your own work; those who don't, ask themselves for trouble. That said, this only affects the japanese market. We don't have any sort of such censorship here. I'm assuming it's highly possible a lot of artists would rather keep their works in their original state, than censor them, but aren't really knowledgeable about western laws involving pornographic content. It's still possible to release a game in two versions - 'censored' game for the japanese market and an original for the western market, it's just... kind of complicated. Japanese are the type of people, who are very reluctant to changes, out of many various factors, including convenience.

  7. Uncensoring a piece of work is creating a derivative work. A derivative work changes the work in question. This change can impact how an artist is perceived or viewed, and can impact their reputation. Sayori is quite famous and maybe worries how this might affect her (?), so has exercised her right to control derivative works. Nothing really groundbreaking here, or anything to get worked up over, TBH. Anyway I'm a little shoddy on law, but I think what I said is accurate, and you can't fault the reasoning behind this also. The people publishing this modified stuff won't have to deal with any repercussions that modification may create, so they really have little moral standing here.

  8. one minute they are drawing tentacle rape to some loli and the next one they dont want to show their draws uncensored, that's the Japanese thinking for you it's a puzzle for us westerns, but hey it makes sense for them so who are we to judge them, in the end is her decision (her art) no matter the reasons behind it we need to accept it.

  9. Played more today and it was quite a ride so far. I was almost glued to the screen because there was so much tension with one event coming after another. Fortunately, the title switched a gear back now from its speed to give the characters some time to calm down and reflect on the events. Besides the radiation problem there were some that really made me curious about what's going on. I also think I started a love triangle between Kazami and Ena. At least I hope so. I think I'm also slowly getting used to the Senses Symphathy System - which means I'm getting used to dying. It really does a fantastic job... in sending you straight to hell because of some simple 'misunderstanding'. I guess there must be some relationship to the AI of the first Resident Evil movie, because the system can be a real bitch. Usually it goes like this: Scene 1: SSS: "Do you want to do A which makes you look like a coward, or B which is courageous but more dangerous?" Me: "Hmm, B of course!" SSS: "Sorry, you die because you were too careless and foolish." Me: "Shit!" Scene 2: SSS: "Do you want to do A which makes you look like a coward, or B which is courageous but more dangerous?" Me: "Not again darling, this time I choose A!" SSS: "Sorry, you die because you hesitated too much." Me: "You're kidding!?" Scene 3: SSS: "Do you want to do A which makes you look like a coward, or B which is courageous but more dangerous?" Me: "It's clear that it's B this time, but I don't know how to trigger it because I can't figure out the right combination for the six sympathy sliders." SSS: "Sorry, you die because you acted like a coward." Me: "Hrrrnnnghhhh!!!"

  10. But while I'm here, I might as well vent just a bit: I think the most disappointing thing about this game is that it's really a step back in maturity. Aselia dealt with the inherent gray morality that comes with war, the helplessness of the soldiers who fight them, and featured a cast of 'expendable' characters who you valued all the more for being just part of your little war-orphaned family. Seinarukana goes back to Tried and True High School, and features the usual cast of childhood friends and magical royalty. The villains are over-the-top omnicidal maniacs, and once again we have that forced style of 'I don't have to tell you anything about my motives, Main Character', which is something people just don't do in real life. "Why are you killing billions of people! What possible reason could there be for that?!" "I have one, but I don't feel like telling you until you're strong enough to stop me." That is infuriating, because it's the cheapest trick in the book for creating pointless misunderstandings. It's not even a trick! It's a cop-out! It would take 2 minutes to resolve this conflict with a simple explanation, but noooo, you're going to gleefully attempt genocide and laugh about it, and try to play the 'greater good' card later and expect it to hold weight, as though you weren't a sociopath in chapters 2-8. That being said, I'm quite enjoying Seinarukana.

  11. Visual Novel Translation Status (04/30/2016) Kinda want to do seiyuu joke for this week, so since the featured image header (One of 4 image actually) was Moribe Jun in Root Double, who also had same seiyuu as Kawakami Kazuko back in Majikoi, so I decided for the title because Jun was firefighter and Kazuko nickname was Wanko, I'd made 'Wanko as Firefighter' for the review title. Anyway, this is definitely not a fanfiction of how Wanko will became firefighter in Kawakami city, but usual VNTS review for this week. For the release, Aselia was already censored even back when fan translated, so I think it's already played and discussed to the death or in other word obsolete. Ozmafia, well even otome was once again not my interest but congratulations for Mangagamer first otome release. The story of Ozmafia was something like amnesiac cute MC (I admit that I look forward to otome game MC face though. Oh, her name was Fuuka) was trapped in the place when there is many mafia family fighting each other to the death, and Fuuka must had to seek refuge with one mafia family that hopefully she could trust. Corpse Party, well it had voice obviously but too bad the seiyuu is not the famous one though just like in PSP version, just indie seiyuu. But I think if some of you like horror and didn't had PSP (Or you had hard time to use PSP Emulator), go ahead and play it. For the last relese, I'll comment below (In case some of you didn't get it from the first paragraph, it was obviously Root Double). As expected, Mangagamer really did update for each 2 weeks. And I think for this week we had another good week after Seinarukana sudden release last week. Let's start my wrap up from Fan Translation here. Fan Translation Well, this time AstralAir didn't had progress this week as usual (Or maybe this week VNTS came too fast, and if Chuee update it I'll add it here). For Bishoujo Mangekyou, this week we had 5 out of 8 script translated, and Arcadeotic said it was around 70%. Although I didn't follow it, Angel Beats at this week was at 41.93% although I'm still waiting for Key to release full version though. For Dergonu's project (I'll reference this as Tsui Yuri for next review), congratulations for finally getting good TLC and for the progress it was at 12%. I think as for this week Fan Translation section was kinda plain, although I'm waiting for Tuesday since akerou supposed to give major update in regard of his progress (Although I didn't know if it would be good or bad though, but hopefully good obviously). Oh, and I'd almost forget that this week Ittaku really released another beta patch for ToHeart2, and he decided to had FredtheBarber also editing twin's route (At this time, ToHeart 2 was edited 75%). Mangagamer Once again, looks like my prediction that Mangagamer will had update every 2 weeks was proved right. So, for Mangagamer progress recap, here's the list below. Kuroinu was at 55% translated MYTH was 100% translated and in scripting Imopara 2 was 44% translated Evangile W was half translated Pygmalion was 86.73% translated DaCapo 3 was 90% translated and 83.4% edited Bokuten was 92% translated and 73.75% translated Tatarigoroshi now being ported Well, the progress for 3 most interesting VN (Pygmalion, DaCapo3, and Bokuten) was very good if I must said to Mangagamer. As for Tatarigoroshi (Oh, by the way Tatariogoroshi was one part of Higurashi in case some of the reader here confused what Tatarigoroshi mean), looks like they'll release it in close date and with that it'll be another part of Higurashi that will had voice patch in the future. And Tatarigoroshi is the part when Higurashi story start to form itself, or so I'd read somewhere. Other than that, there's not much to comment here. Sekai Project For Tenshin Rahman and Chrono Clock, well maybe if the progress was updated regularly I'll keep eye to both of it. Maitetsu was at 12.11% translated for this week and WEE episode 3 was at 64.24% translated for this week. It'll be definitely good news for WEE fans, although Maitetsu progress was slowed down again this week after we had quite nice progress from last weeks. Other than that, I think not much from Sekai translation progress. The most exciting news this week was definitely Root Double release. I'm actually kind of want to see it translated from the moment I read GundamAce posts in Animesuki and Gamefaqs back at 2012, and he said that it was equal to Ever17 according to him (And he swear that he'll definitely translated it). So, from the moment I'd see him founded Lemnisca Translation I'd remember that I'm always following his I/O, Secret Games and 12Riven translation because he said that he'll finally translated Root Double after he finished with all of those 3 games. Although the way of got Root Double here was a bit different and had slightly more controversial, it was definitely worth of waiting. As of now I'll still waiting for Root Double to be available on my laptop, and then I'll write my first impression. For Decay's review, actually I think it's okay though since review should be taken as personal feeling of the work instead of the whole community opinion. And of course you should once again form your opinion based on the game by yourself alone, not by the review itself. For example, according to VNDB I/O was one of GundamAce best VN while Decay only give score 7.7, so I think once again review was like something personal opinion, although I also see the point that it may affect some of the people who want to play it though if they only read the score and not the substance. Okay to be honest I said this because I'd had more face-palm reading the reaction from Decay's review at Gamefaqs forum rather than the review itself. And one last thing I would said is that at least Decay didn't review it badly because it didn't had gameplay section just like some certain Tokyo Babel review. I think that's all I could write for this VNTS review for this week.

  12. VNs in Japan may be slowly dying, but the scene is definitely growing in the west. Many people believe the Steam market to be oversaturated right now and I kind of agree. So a minor bubble burst may hit within the next year or so. But I believe the people to be hit hardest by that will be groups like winged cloud and ajtilley, while the major localization companies will still perform about as well as they have been for some time to come. That's my prediction.

  13. Uhhh...what? If that were true, then MangaGamer would have died a long time ago, considering that they keep themselves funded by translating nukige. VNs like Boob Wars and Imouto Paradise keep them afloat so they can translate less porn-focused VNs like Gahkthun and all-ages titles like Tokyo Babel. There's a difference between western countries, especially the USA, saying sex in media is offensive, and straight up boycotting pornography. Plenty of people in my country consume porn, they just won't admit it in public. I don't really get why you're saying that there is no demand for 18+ games or porn here, we're not some Puritanical country that collectively self-flagellates whenever we see an uncovered thigh.

  16. I can't see it happen, the good Translations might die, because of Frontwing taking over all titles and making easy steam money. However shitty FanTL will always be a thing until the Japanese VN market dies and all the interesting titles/moege/shitty nukgie are translated, which won't happen...

'brutality' - Not really against brutality but yeah elegance is preferred. Well the whole thing of me not doing shit all this time does match with my primary sin of Sloth........ As a randomized personality it's good enough as long as I'm badass in the battles

  22. After the whole censoring theater with MangaGamer's Minori titles, I'm not surprised at all about this. Some people in the business are simply extremely paranoid that the uncensored art might get back to Japan and that they are facing a lawsuit because of that. I once heard that a director of a company that released uncensored art went to prison because of that, so I do have some understanding that they don't want to take unnecessary risks.
    1 point
  23. To be honest, I'm not capable of understanding the obsession with de-censoring. This is mostly because ero isn't a priority issue for me, though I do have my fetishes. Also, even if they partnered with Giga, that would just mean we would see maybe one Baldr game ten years from now...

  24. As far as I know, production of unmosaiced porn is legal. Distribution is not. The problem is that unmosaiced porn could be reimported back into Japan. That makes some Japanese companies (like minori) squeamish.

  25. lol xD well even as a joke, there is plenty of material available to look for if you want to know how to draw, a lot of artists recommend to buy medicine books for that reason, not just for the anatomy but for proportions, and other types of stuff that I know nothing of because drawing is not my thing . I know some artists that they do their researches in medicine books, I had a long discussion with a member of this forum a while ago regarding this topic she was really obsessed xD on how bad the draws of genitals are in general in vns(she is an amateur artist), specially dicks, she also said the same thing about medicine books.
    1 point
  26. Not surprising, considering it's really hard to get reference material Also, I don't think this case is all that representative of the average Artist's mindset. Most artists approached by Fakku accept it anyway(as far as it know), and there are even well known artists approaching them now:

  27. In Japan, it is actually illegal to create uncensored hentai. Another perspective is that, by a particularly anal-retentive prosecutor, her allowing such a 'derivative work' to be created might be interpreted as being a passive accessory to a crime.

  30. Mosaic censorship is an ingrained part of Japanese culture. This shouldn't be confused with other types of censorship that are often applied specifically for Western release (to address real and imagined cultural differences, dangers, and audience expectations).

  31. I hate to say this, but VNR sucks as a parser... its basic dictionary is even more unreliable than jparser, which isn't perfect either. Use it as a hooker, with TA (with Jparser or Mecab) as your parser. Even then, you are going to need to learn to recognize when it is giving you the wrong reading, but it is a lot less inaccurate.

  32. This is only a valid complaint if the individual parts cost more than most VNs of their length and production value. We don't know yet what the pricing will look like.

On a more serious note, if you really want to make my character more like me, you should probably just change it to "an extremely sarcastic git"

    Steam Anime Weekend Sale

Some good, cheap VNs this sale: Romanesque for $16.24 - A fun, simple raising sim/VN hybrid. It's pretty long and has a LOT of variation for multiple playthroughs. The story is super laid back, generally speaking. Clannad for $25 - It's Clannad, and it's $25. Amnesia Memories for $4.49 - A pretty lengthy, apparently very good otome game. Rooke likes it a lot. It's dirt cheap, too! Fault Milestone One and Two for $3.74 and $7.49 - Pretty decent medieval fantasy adventures for super cheap. The Fruit of Grisaia for $19.99 - Easily one of the best VNs ever officially released, and the best VN on this whole list, for just twenty bucks. I doubt there's many of you who aren't already aware of this, though. eden* for $8 - Fairly decent romance/tragedy. Cho Dengeki Stryker All Ages for $12.24 - Pretty fun shounen action story. The action is pretty ridiculous and over-the-top, and sometimes it gets a little generic, but it's still good, mindless fun. I liked it a fair amount. I promise you that you will not miss the ero content, it's very short, infrequent, bad, and totally shoehorned in. Tokyo Babel for $27.99 - I've been trying to keep to games that have a significant discount but Tokyo Babel is my favorite VN in quite a while and $28 is a steal for it, in my opinion. Higurashi Ch.1 and 2 for $9.09 - Although it's still practically just the opening of this ridiculously long story, Higurashi is a very good VN about the powers of friendship and all that with elements of horror and mystery.
