  1. I thought some more about what I like about NTR: I like the rivalry. And like any good rivalry, you should be able to both win or lose, and the rival character should be well-characterized. Winning should either be challenging or require sacrifices (i.e., betraying a friend or having another love interest NTR'd). Ideally, the process should involve the heroine being hit on or slowly seduced by the rival, which fosters a sense of jealousy. In a sense, NTR is as much an element of gameplay as a theme to me.

  2. TRAILER: Check out the demo! We've developed a pre-alpha demo for a brief look at the project. It features two backgrounds, one pose per main sprite, and a brief selection of music and story. While there are some placeholders and limited features, we hope it provides a glimpse of our vision! The main goal of the demo is to convey the overall atmosphere of the game in how we handle visuals and music. The demo is 2500 words long (around 7 minutes of material). We'd like to shoutout Youngha Hwang for programming the demo via the Ren'Py engine, and putting truckloads of work into custom functionalities! S T O R Y Here's the rundown: you play as Alison Hart, a fresh-out-of-college journalism graduate who is desperate for a job. In fact, you're so desperate that you're willing to apply for an infamous (yet successful) online tabloid that specializes in "supernatural events"—though, really, it's just a collection of tinfoil hat conspiracies. So, when you're assigned to investigate six people who are rumored carry the Spirits of the Zodiacs—whatever that means—you're not worried. After all, the whole idea is just sheer nonsense. Right? A light and fluffy adventure ensues in which you: Are almost crushed by a chandelier. Find yourself in a burning house. Witness an execution. And somewhere along the lines, you start to think that journalism is a lot more complicated than you expected. A B O U T Zodiac•Axis is a commercial visual novel game that will be developed in Ren'Py and released for Mac, PC, and Linux. It is a fusion of suspense, romance, and supernatural fiction with a splash of psychological horror. With a thoroughly developed worldlore, it mixes a contemporary environment with whimsical Asian fantasy. Romance five guys! (Not simultaneously.) Pick from an array of choices. Feign insanity, write a cheesy love song, and assimilate with cardboard boxes. Choices shape Alison’s skillset and allow her to stay alive. Er, that is to say, write good articles. Experience a narrative begins with humor and intrigue, then evolves into heartwarming depth. C H A R A C T E R S L I N K S Dev Blog / Tumblr Twitter

  3. I feel it is worthy of both my time and yours to make this announcement. As of this day, and I'm sure you can check the date yourself, my forum name has changed due to personal reasons. My insincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. In my benevolence, allow me to inform you that you are permitted to address me as you did previously if you would so prefer. I won't blame you for it. I expected no better from you anyway. If you don't know who I am, then this message surely wasn't intended for you, in which case, shoo shoo -- you're clogging up the traffic. Have a good day.

  6. So appearently there's some scenes for which I need to raise Sylvie's lust. To do this I need to make tea with the pink flowers, right? The problem: The game won't fucking let me. Damn bitch will just get in the way and make the tea herself every fucking time. It worked just fine once or twice before I actually knew what it did, but now it doesn't, for whatever reason. Can anyone help me?

  7. For those who have no idea whatsoever what I am talking about, I'm referring to a type of heroine that tends to exist in a relatively high proportion with a strong central plot... the type of heroine that remains by the protagonist's side, usually no matter which heroine he chooses and is usually the true heroine. This heroine has a bond with the protagonist that surpasses that of a simple friendship or lover and can't really be cut without destroying them both. This heroine's existence is usually so vital to the protagonist that without her, he isn't entirely sane. Often, this will be the true heroine, though that isn't always the case. This type of heroine will not always be pleasant to be around... in fact, many of them are outright prickly or poisonous. However, the bond they have with the protagonist is sufficient to make parting nearly impossible, if not entirely unthinkable. Examples of this heroine include: Suzu from Ayakashibito Kagome from Comyu Shizuku from Evolimit Selma from Bullet Butlers Mana from Amatsutsumi Belche from Draculius Saki from Hapymaher Nonosaki Akiho of Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba Kamio Ami of Semiramis no Tenbin (in a weird way) Chikae from Ore no Tsure wa Hito de nashi Mitoko from Damekoi Understand, I absolutely adore this type of heroine role... mostly because the intimacy (not always positive) makes for some really interesting and warped relationships. Also, the love when they do get together is... extreme, lol.

Not a lot of translated ones but Navel's Tick Tack is technically netori if you go for Ai or Sage (seriously). And MangaGamer's new Funbag Fantasy (aka Kyonyuu Fantasy) also has light netori tag. It's a nukige, but apparently a rather story heavy one. For untranslated ones Tsumamigui 3 from Alice Soft is definitely netori if you go for Miyuri. There's also a lot of netorare, but you can avoid it if you play true love mode. Elf's Maro no Kanja wa Gatenkei also is kind of popular if you can stand the protagonist (I wouldn't). Edit: Another translated one would be Jast's Secret Wives Club, but it's a nukige and might be a bit too H-heavy for your request. Still, it's one of the rare nukiges I actually liked, so I just throw it in.

  21. Ain't that the truth. Once upon a time, in the late 2000's, I started learning Japanese. I was sick and tired of all the good Japanese-developed video games that I couldn't play. At that time, nearly all console games were Japanese. Most of the Western-developed ones kinda sucked. However, a funny thing happened. The market changed; over the course of the PS2's lifespan, console games started shifting away from being an almost entirely Japanese production. English developers gradually stepped up their game, and kept stepping it up, and now all the best-selling titles on consoles are Western-developed (unless you're Nintendo). Now, if I'm not mistaken, the Japanese VN market is in a serious crisis right now. Sales have plummeted compared to where they were ten years ago, and seem to have reached a new stable point. Naturally, this will affect product quality. OELVN developers also have not had very long to mature compared to the Japanese market. So in the future, I would be very surprised if the OELVN market did not significantly improve from where it is now. It just depends on what kind of timeframe you're talking about. Six months from now probably looks a lot like today. Six years? Not so much. Six decades? The Japanese VN industry isn't even six decades old yet! Who the hell knows?

  22. huh, i never saw it that way. that makes sense. some ntr can get pretty... heavy though. like this one i read where a guy gets his girl ntred and its implied he hangs himself while watching a video of her happily giving birth to the other guys child. O_O thats the kind of level i could never get. i think we all could get behind that.

  23. I read a couple of'em during my hentai-searches every now and then (c'mon, I'm a guy; what do you expect). It's not my favorite genre in terms of the more 'crude' hentai, particularly due to it being more suited more for masochists than 's-guys' like myself... But yeah, the point is, I could understand the appeal somewhat, fantasizing about the loss of control. It's actually not a very strange fantasy, considering the similar fantasies women have about losing control to someone stronger, etc. Anyway, NTR definitely isn't my favorite kind of hentai at all. Why would I watch someone steal the fun of sexing my waifu anyway? I wanna join in!

  25. But...netorare literally means "cuckold". It still sounds like NTR to me, it's just leaving the traditional mold of most NTR games. It fits the description on VNDB, which is, "a sexual fetish designed to cause sexual jealousy by way of having the heroine indulge in sexual activity with someone other as [sic] the protagonist". The story still sounds like it would cause jealousy if the reader self-inserts as the husband, as the wife cannot orgasm when she has sex with her own husband, and the other man is better in bed than him, which would be extremely emasculating. It just sounds like the husband enjoys being cuckolded and seems to derive sexual pleasure from it, which isn't that different from the typical reader of NTR, correct? Wow, an NTR VN that I might actually like. Thanks for bringing it to my attention

  26. What's your favourite OELVN? Ramsay Butter me Up Will OELVNs ever be as good as Japanese VNs? Never, the level of writing are too far apart, and besides look at the producers and quality of OELVNs being released, eww m9. Why are OELVNs generally considered worse than Japanese VNs? Level of writing gap, art, sound track (They have no production fees) It's in English. What are the attributes that make OELVNs stand out (in a positive way) from their Japanese counterparts? No. Pfft Winged Cloud Recommend a random (relatively unknown) OELVN I don't know. Is Undertale an OELVN? No, it's just a western JRPG thing. And of so has it already made VNs popular in the west?... And if so has Fuwanovel lost its purpose of existence?! Making VNs popular in the west created a cancer fan base in the west too, so err let me shield myself with Japanese barrier.

  27. You want unpopular opinions? I got unpopular opinions. Here's one. You know what Wanko is? She's not the best grill (that's the Hulk Hogan grill), she's not the best girl (that's Ben Kei (two words as the bartender) or Nee-san or Miyako or Mayumayu or Seiso-haou or Ageha-san or Yadon or Karin) or even the best pet (Tatsu or Koyuki). She's just a useless whiny loser who gave up because she couldn't cut the mustard one time. Did Ronald Reagan give up because he didn't become President the first time? Did Ronda Rousey quit just because Dr. De Mars told her she sucked that one time she lost in that one piddlyass judo tournament that was only seen by the parents of the participants? No! She got back up, said "fuck you Mom, I'm gonna do it, that's it, period!" and got an Olympic medal and two world titles to shove up her ass. Now she's a fucking movie star. You want to know what improves athletic performance? It sure as hell isn't that lameass crap you came up with it. It's growth hormone, testosterone propinate, trenbolone and anavar if you're female with more than 5% body fat. Or you embrace the dark side like Shakadou-san. Or you can raise your toukon the EcchiOujisama way, doing 1000 suburi everyday for 1000 consecutive days. That works too. I know because I did it. You know what didn't get the job done? (Insert diet here.) But the paths of both haou and toukon are just too much for our little pet dog. Oh sure, you can teach her to go fetch or show up when you blow the whistle, but that's all she's good for. Yamato should just cover his dick with peanut butter, blow the whistle and get it over with. "Yeah, that's it, right there, lick up those Scooby SnacksTM Wanko!" Assuming he didn't already do that in the Drama CD games, haven't gone through those yet. I would say I feel sorry for Hideo, but he can and will do better. She is a disgrace to Ekate's voice and should be ashamed of herself.

Japanese developers will pay more than whatever Winged Cloud can afford to dish out, and provide more stable and consistent employment. Therefore, whoever's been plucked from the populace is someone who isn't good enough to work for them. I wouldn't expect some great new level of writing, here.[/Removes cynical hat]

  39. The decision point in the OP doesn't make much sense, but I take it this in an attempt by Winged Cloud to gain more Patreon subscribers? So the game is probably distributed for free with nag messages to subscribe for extra content (probably H-scenes)? I'm not fundamentally opposed to this model if you can assess at a glance, before you download the game, how much you'll need to pay to get the experience you expect. In this case, if that's a straight $30, that's much more than I'd be willing to pay for a short throwaway indie title from the likes of Winged Cloud. But as long as I don't feel "entrapped" into sinking more money than I expected, the payment model doesn't particularly bother me. If it encourages people to pay rather than freeload and doesn't disrupt the gameplay (e.g., by offering gameplay incentives), then have at it. Edit 1: I checked Denpasoft's store page and while the game is distributed for free, they don't even mention that there's in-app purchases. Sasuga Sekai Project. Way to blindside your users. Seriously? Looks like they're taking pointers from Nutaku! Edit 2: And here's what comes up when I click the 'download' link on the Denpasoft store page. Seriously, Sekai Project? Seriously? You're really letting Winged Cloud do this to you? Are you out of your minds?

  40. bit in a hurry (like always ), but yo, whilst there´re some lonesome few struggling for the recognition they deserve, the very vast amount of oelvns was, is & will probably stay trash, at least if there wont be some adequate change in the devs behaviour. seriously, i cant help but wonder why what feels like every single human individual that´s completely devoid of any sort of talent for writing believes the time has come for him/her to start delivering literary garbage. what´s even worse, that those, who fail knowing their own strengths and obvious shortcomings, are often getting encouraged/supported by various publishers, instead of being told to fuck off, btw. abandon all dreams of literary supremacy, something on which they childishly keep clinging. jesus it pisses me off, not only do they flood the market with failed attempts after failed attempts, no they even dare charging for such literary travesties, encouraged due to being supported by the aforementioned. those who cant do shit and lack any talent aside, the ones trying to make a quick buck only, if a product happens to not be of satisfactionary quality (and i mean it in the very sense of the word), then dont charge for it. period. nothing wrong with going free-doujin and cutting some corners if neccessary, because in the end a possible gain of experience is what matters, or should be important to them. of course in case a product ends up being completely for the fucks, dont release it at all and keep on improving until reading it wont rape ones eyeballs and brains. to me this pretty much is how things should work, or getting handled, but like already mentioned before, the stigma of oelvns being equivalent to rotten poop stems from a great many retards trying to become a writer, when there´s no fucking modicum of talent inhabitating the deluded corpses of theirs. just having watched enough anime/consumed the media wont make anyone automatically a mareni, same as reading hiiro no koku for a zillion times wont turn me into a pimp.
