    Inochi no Spare

*weeps hopelessly, his face a mess with tears and other fluids* Inochi no Spare is an utsuge, produced by Akabeisoft3, the conglomerate company made from all of Akabeisoft2's subsidiaries except Akatsuki Works. I'll be blunt, I didn't know what to think going into this. It was blatantly an utsuge, right from the beginning... and one that is merciless in its descriptions of the characters' suffering. The disease in question is called Oumon Disease (fictional), which manifests initially as cherry flower petal-shaped marks spreading outward across the patient's skin from over the heart and later as horrible pain attacks that are so terrible that they cause the patients to harm themselves in order to distract from the greater pain. No element of this disease is spared from the reader's point of view, and it can get pretty graphic, both in narration and in appearance. For those who can't stand watching others' suffering, this VN is probably going to be too much for you. The protagonist and heroine's suffering, joy, love, fear, loneliness, and despair are all portrayed in an intimate fashion that gradually grasps your heart, building up from the initial point, where you don't know precisely what is going on. For better or worse, I have to advise that you avoid reading spoilers on this VN, as the pace of revelation is as important as the content itself. The writing of this game is excellent... and ruthlessly true to the characters and scenario. The characters aren't perfect. They are as deeply flawed as any human being can be. Meguri isn't a saint, nor is Ria a pure-hearted martyr. The protagonist of the story, Shizumine Ryuuji, is a young man whose expression rarely shifts, living for all practical purposes alone in a home that once held his parents and an elder brother. One thing that struck me as I read this story was that, for all his weaknesses, Ryuuji is a frighteningly strong-willed person, when given reason to be. His role in this VN is as important... or even moreso than the sisters' roles. This is a 'soft' utsuge, meaning that the ending is extremely bittersweet but not devoid of salvation, and there is joy along the way, not lost entirely in the despair and suffering. For those who like 'soft' utsuge, this will be pure crack... and it reminds me of some of the best moments of Konakana, which is still the best utsuge I've ever read. Overall, this is a kamige... and it is rare for an utsuge to manage to reach that level. Most utsuge slip up somewhere along the way, but this one is presented perfectly for fulfilling its purpose. I cried out loud for the ending, vicariously experiencing the loss without needing to think myself into it, which was amazing in and of itself. That's not to say it is entirely without flaws. It is a bit slow to get going, at least in part because you aren't given all the pieces of the puzzle initially, but I can still honestly call it a kamige, because even those elements that felt like flaws at first added to the experience later on.

  6. I'm Eiliya, the founding member of Eternals Developing, a small studio of indie developers that mainly focuses on erotic games (we do have other projects in the air as well, but I will refrain from mentioning them here). Since one of our games is fairly close to reaching the point where we can release a demo, our programmer suggested that we start trying to spread the word of our game. Fuwanovel was among the sites that he suggested, so here I am. Let me introduce the game. Hellscape - The Scelus Empire is what I like to call a patchwork game. It's intended to feature aspects from various types of games, such as the narration system of visual novels, the turn-based combat of old-school rpgs and the city building/governing of many simulation games, mixed in what I hope will be a fun and engaging experience for any player. The main focus of the game is obviously going to be the story told and when the game starts, only the visual novel narration and the rpg system will be available to the player but as the story moves on and future episodes are released, new features will be added to the previous version. Warning: From here on is the details of the game. While there will be no actual such images on display, the game is erotic in nature. If this bothers you, this read is not for you. Also, if you do not really care for what the game is about and only wishes to know what you can do to help, there are links at the bottom of the post. Story: You play as Taranoir, a demigod that once ruled over Hellscape, the mightiest empire in the Abyss. Due to the goddess that created you having been captured by enemy dieties, you have now lost your divine powers and the mighty empire is crumbling into chaos. In order to survive, you escape to the mundane world with the intention of gathering enough followers and worshippers to elevate yourself into goodhood, thus regaining the power you need to rescue your divine parent and retake your lost homeland. And what is the best way to go about doing this? Conquring the world, of course! Seeing as how walls of text are usually frowned upon by the community, I put the biggest chunk of text into a spoiler. It contains details about the various systems we plan on using, so if you are interested, please do read it. For those of you who want something that is a bit less heavy to handle, here's a video demo of the first few minutes of the game (note that only the visual novel aspect of the game is being shown): Since I do not know if I am allowed to post links to crowdfunders, I'll refrain from doing so. If you are interested in helping me out, drop me a private message and we can solve the issue in private. Thank you a lot for having taken the time to read thus far. It means a lot to us.

  9. Hey, do you guys remember my post from a while back, when I said rice tastes really boring and how baffled I was that entire populations manage to survive on it alone? Well, turns out that dieting for 4 months actually makes you develop stockholm to rice. I can't get enough of that shit nowadays and I'm still going through every possible flavor of rice the world has to offer.

  12. Yes, that is my current plan. This is my first attempt at a crowdfunding campaign, and one thing successful, experienced crowdfunders advised me against is offering physical rewards as a first timer. The costs associated with producing physical rewards will suck funds out of a budget (regardless of size) like a black hole, so at this time I only feel safe offering digital rewards. While I understand this news will be disappointing to some, I made this decision to safeguard the viability of this project.

  13. So you finished the entire Innocent Grey collection while I'm still in the first half of Flowers?! That's... depressing. Or you could marathon all Sakura games... On a more serious note, you could try to tackle Umineko if you haven't already read it. It's probably the longest translated VN and you seem to have the required 'reading persistence' for it. It actually looks pretty good with the PS2 art patch. Except you got tired from mystery for the moment and want to read something different.

  15. Basically, by not going into anyone's route. Don't go with any girl, don't go with Shou. During Ep. 4 you'll either get it automatically, or get an option with smth like "I'm worried about Nikki."

  19. For Rance you have to understand that he's suppose to be ridiculous. It's a comedy and you shouldn't take it to heart. The dude will literally save the world or destroy it for pussy. I usually don't like over the top perv characters, but Alicesoft some how created a likeable character... at least to me. I never laughed at a characters antics more than I have to Rance. Guy is the biggest asshole, who acts like a man child, and has sex on his mind all the time. He's basically the opposite of a typical anime hero and I love it.

  21. The way I remembered them is: The three-letter ones have 3 strokes (tsu shi ツシ) and the ones with fewer letters have 2 strokes (so n ソン) If you order the two pairs above so that the first one is looking to the left and the second one is looking to the right (<-ツシ-> and <-ソン->) you can go get some (t)sushi, son.

  23. @Eternals-Eiliya - I thought as much, Ren'py is the most common one, but lately people are moving on to Unity and other more powerful engines, nevermind though, Ren'py can be perfectly fine for everything too, especially if it's powered up by good custom python scripts ... As for the publishers, DLSite is good too I guess, I mentioned Nutaku and MangaGamer because I know that in the west they are popular, though I can't tell you how difficult Nutaku is, they are kind of censorship-happy so I don't know whether they are a good choice and I mentioned MangaGamer because they sometimes give their platform to developers like you to publish their games, for example, this one came to my mind but MangaGamer is mostly into Japanese VNs only ... I don't know much about DLSite but I do know that they mostly sell Japanese H-RPG games if I remember correctly, they might be better than others, I don't know though ... You should also follow Sanahtlig's advice, this wall of text might be okay-ish to someone like me but regular users don't pay much attention to this kind of presentation so you should try working out on that

  24. You need to think about your target audience: likely people who've never heard of your game before. You have about 10-30s to capture their interest and make them want to learn more. You might want to separate the content intended to make that first impression from the content meant for those who are already interested. Try using Steam store pages as a model of how to lay this out.

    VN perspective?

Go read the Infinity series, they love to tackle your very question in their plot, do it!! In general I consider myself observer. Never insert myself as protagonist, even for the blank slate ones.

  27. I feel you definitively, happened to me too, on this same forum when I was writing an introduction several days ago xD The site logged you off automatically and then when you clicked "Submit" it just all went to nothing, and like me, you didn't copy it beforehand so it was quite a sad feeling ... But then later on in the day I got motivated again so I wrote the introduction again and this time I was copying everything to clipboard just in case I think that the second time I wrote it was better, though I tend to get into "bla bla bla" mode so I think it was an even longer post then it was the first time, you can look at it here: I am guessing you probably wrote a lot more than me and I am basing that on your other post describing the VN you are developing right now, you are really going into details if I may say so xD, you were right to come here on Fuwa to showcase it, I didn't check it all out right now but I will, I promise Though you should definitively spread a word around, not just here Anyway, welcome to Fuwa and I wish you and your team luck on your VN development endeavour ...

  30. Almost done with Princess Evangile. So much absolute stupidity in that one, I can't even. It makes Harukoi look like a literary masterpiece. Also, the bad ending is such a shameless "fuck you" to the reader, I'm frankly impressed. Go ahead, click on the spoiler tag, it's not spoiling anything whatsoever.
