  3. I kind of view h-scenes like a cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. It's nice to have but even without it you still have an entire ice cream sundae. EDIT: Except for Moenovel, that's a bad ice cream sundae.

  5. I don't really consider whether a VN has sexual content or not when deciding whether to play it. I will give anything a try if it has half-decent reviews/reputation or if it looks interesting to me personally. I consider the sex aspect to be like in real life: sex happens. It's not that strange. It's also not at all necessary to telling a good story, so it's fine either way.

  6. And the logical conclusion from all this is that you should do the same? Reply in the same currency, why not? Has that ever gone wrong? Indeed. Lots of people like it. Clearly terrible material right there. I admit, certain fanbases, especially those which grow too large, can be obnoxious. However, I don't see that as a reason to preemptively decide the material which they are a fan of must not be good. That may not be what you did, of course, but it comes across as such regardless. Personally, I believe Majikoi is truly a great game, mostly because I'm a huge fan of comedy, and I couldn't possibly speak as highly of Majikoi S, since it had improvements in some areas and then just dedicated all its writing to H-Scenes, which I don't like much. It makes me feel sad and even mad when people say it's not a good game or that its overhyped when I came to love it before I noticed the fanbase at all.

  10. This is the first of August's releases I'm playing, and to be honest, I didn't really have any hopes for this VN... in a good way, my belief that it would suck was betrayed, though this is a very problematic VN, in a number of ways. 1. It is LONG. This VN is way too long for a story that is almost entirely slice-of-life (though it is an extremely abnormal life) and considering how self-abusing the protagonist tends to be. 2. The music cuts out at irregular intervals, and frequently it doesn't make sense when it does. Those are the obvious flaws, and I'll just leave it at that. For a doujin VN, the art is about as good as it gets (outside of a few miraculous works of art that pop up once or twice a year). The match of characterization to art is pretty good in this case (in other words, the characters' personalities are properly matched to the expressions and poses of the tachie), though there is very little in the way of pose variances in comparison to a commercial VN. Most of the music in this VN is generic (though the opening and ending songs are decent unique ones), but it is used properly - where it doesn't cut out and leave you hanging - so there isn't a lot to complain about. Story-wise... the concept is interesting. The basic idea of the protagonist is that he is cursed to be the 'idiot friend' (think Sunohara from Clannad) who exists entirely to help the protagonist get together with a heroine or to kick him out of his mood and save the heroine. The thing is... he has at least forty groups of such 'osananajimi' characters, each with a 'protagonist' of its own that he has to help. The basic impression is that it is like a full time job... a job he really, really hates. To be honest, I was kind of amazed they went with a primarily serious story (yes, it is serious) despite the seemingly humor-focused idea of the story. Oh, there is indeed a ton of laughable points... in fact, it is impossible to avoid them even if you try. However, the baseline of the story is serious, to the point where you have to wonder just why they had to lay it on so heavy in the latter part of each heroine route. (incidentally, I'm half-sure there is a hidden heroine route in here somewhere, but because this is a doujin VN, there are no walkthroughs to help me find it, lol) Well, my conclusion after having played the obvious heroine routes is that this is a decent VN... but only decent. It doesn't get beyond that, primarily because its flaws are glaring enough that they offset most of the good points. This VN could definitely have done with a bit of cutting the fat, especially when it came to the repetitious gags and constant foreshadowing with no progression (it took way too long to get to the point) in Nanami's route.

  11. The series Shin Megami Tensei is easily Atlus's biggest moneymaker and has the most entries as well. There are two series that have been consistently followed up with sequels: the SMT 'main series' and the Persona series. I first ran across the SMT games with the original Persona on the PS1... and at the time, I couldn't quite figure out what kind of story they were trying to tell. At least part of this was because the original localization was so godawful that the story only made sense if you basically excised two thirds of the translated script, lol. Another part was because you spent an indecent amount of time just walking around in the dungeons, in comparison to other role-playing games at the time. A lot of this was because the original Persona was not really distinct from the main SMT series, so the gameplay tended to be similar, in the most general sense of the word. Persona wasn't really all that popular here in its original form, and it really wasn't until it was re-localized (completely revamped) for the PSP that it actually came back to life. My second entry into the series was Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. Being the latter half of the Persona 2 games, it quite obviously - once again - didn't make a terrible lot of sense. Too much of the game was reliant on you having known the events from Innocent Sin, and while it was much more interesting than the original Persona and had already started to gain the distinctive split between town events and dungeon events that eventually resulted in Persona 3's unique evolution, it still felt similar to the original game. My third intro into the series was SMT: Nocturne... and it blew me away. It was just so different from everything I'd experienced up until then, and the three months I was off my feet due to a knee injury at the time gave me plenty of time to explore that unbelievably long game... and its monster fusion system. By the time I was back on my feet, I'd completed the demon compendium and gotten all the endings, which left me with a feeling of accomplishment that I've yet to experience since. However, it was Digital Devil Saga, the two-game story that is distinct from the Persona and main series in storytelling quality and had the best parts of the main series' gameplay, that still to this day remains in my mind as the best of the entire SMT series as a whole. It had a darkness to it that even Persona 3 and 4 lack, and it also had the immediate emotional impact that the main series tends to lack. It was a vicious, bloody entry in the series that was utterly merciless in the first place, and it really did leave an impression, both visually and emotionally. Persona 3, which I was playing in parallel (since 2 was released very close to it), had a slightly different impact... it was this game that prepared me for my eventual trip into VNs, though it itself is not one. While its difficulty level at its worst doesn't get close to Nocturne's or DDS's, it had its own charm, and to this day, it remains my favorite Persona game. Persona 4... to this day, I honestly think this is the most overrated SMT game. It isn't that it was bad... it is just that it was a bit of a let-down after the experience of Persona 3. While Persona traditionally inserts at least one character who exists to lighten the atmosphere, Teddy was just going too far. I later managed to play Innocent Sin for the PSP... and this allowed me to honestly enjoy Persona 2 as a whole, rather than having that lost feeling I'd felt during my first playthrough of Eternal Punishment. When I played the remastered port and localization of the original Persona, I felt that I finally understood what was going on, and I honestly enjoyed it, though it was a bit dated by that time. SMT IV, which is the most recent part of the main series released, was something of a disappointment. It struggled from the very beginning in trying to make fans who had loved Nocturne love it... but I honestly felt that it fell well short. Part of this is because Nocturne's VISUAL aspects were actually more pleasant to look at overall (for all their dark overtones). Like many old series that got moved to portables in recent years, I honestly think it suffered for the transition, and I would have much preferred a console version, lol. To be honest, even though I played them, I hardly remember the Devil survivor series... I don't even remember when I played them, though it was right when they came out.

  12. Hello, I am not sure that this is the right location to post, as God Eater is not really a VN. God Eater 2 Translation Project Screenshots (from the PsVita version) The story God Eater 2 is set 3 years after the storyline of God Eater Burst, featuring a new set of characters, with some returning old ones and a new storyline. The story focuses on a new team of God Eaters, the Special Forces "Blood", who all posses something called "The Power of Blood", as well as the new phenomena known as the "Red Rain". - GameFaqs Motivation God Eater 2 has been released on November 14th, 2013 in Japan, but D3Publisher has no plan to make an English localization. 13. One reason is that it is very rare for h-scenes to seem 'natural' in the flow of the story. Most h-scenes are meaningless and/or just plugged into the middle of the story at random, thus making them more disruptive than helpful. Oddly, chuunige actually have fewer problems with this than charage (probably because chuunige frequently use h-scenes as plot elements), though Nasu couldn't use an h-scene to save his life. Another reason is because in the west, there is a tendency to consider anything with sexual content to be less well-written than that which doesn't. Yet another reason is that there are always prudes amongst the perverts when it comes to otakus... people who just don't enjoy sexual content at all.

  16. My vote goes to Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. It's for 3DS and Vita though (neither of which can be emulated). It's the sequel to a game called 9 Hours, 9 Persons, Doors for the DS. Since I don't want to spoil anything, here's the gist for 999: 9 seemingly strangers are kidnapped by an assailant who names themselves "Zero" and given 9 hours to escape a sinking ship by playing a game called the Nonary Game. PM me if you want to learn about acquiring and playing the game.

  18. That's right, in order to avoid reconverting the hex data too frequently, the convertion part of the process is only executed once every 300ms. This was a temporary behaviour and sort of just let it be. I'll make sure to find a better solution. You basically answer your own question here: This is not a crazy assumption. Actually, this is the very reason why AGTH sometimes need Hook codes. Sometimes, text is displayed character-by-character and you need to find where every character transits in order to reconstruct every line as they are displayed. Also, just as you mentionned, old games in general (SNES, PS, Game Boy/color/advance...) tend to use custom encodings in order to save as much memory as possible. Those are not hookable with HAT so far (and will probably not be anytime soon, I don't plan on going over every possible encoding ever made...)

  21. Would like to point out the main reason for this is most likely the fact that this series was abandoned, twice. so at this point when it gets released, the rush-hype takes a bit longer to calm down. Let's keep the start of this thread civil, we can argue on page5 instead

  22. The difficulty isn't that high... I'd say it is slightly above the level of the average charage, varying between a 4 and a 6 on a scale of one to ten (with KKK and Chuushingura at the top around 9 and Norn's nukige down around 3)

    What are you playing?

Finally finished Akatsuki no Goei:Tsumibukaki Shuumatsuron, it answered so many questions and left me fully satisfied with the series, the game is better than the first because the story is much more intense and because of an added antagonist that you would feel uncomfortable around, there is more romance and relationship development compared to the first one,H was ok, but IMO , not as good as original, but there are a couple extra stories to compensate for that. I was thinking of going back to baldr sky dive 2 because I have nothing else in my mind, but embarrassingly,I forgot the controls of the game...so i'm gonna lay it off for now, so I'm gonna read Jingai Makyou instead, you can't really go wrong with Nitro+

    Koiken Otome

Koiken Otome English Translation Patch (by Flying Pantsu) Summary A long time ago, unknown beings known as Kotona invaded Earth in search of food. Humans were unable to repel them until after a few years, some people gained special abilities known as ‘douryoku’ which allowed them to exterminate the Kotona and return peace to the world. Now, Seiichi attends the super-elite Kashinomori Academy which trains people with douryoku in preparation for another attack by the Kotona. However, even though he has great power, he doesn’t have the ability to manifest it, leading to him being labelled as ‘most useless one’. The rest of the students in his class all had great skill, but in particular one girl caught his attention. Akane had average powers even though she came from a distinguished family, so she trained hard daily to improve her skills. Watching her, he can’t help but want to help her and that was when his ‘Amplifier’ ability awakened. It is an unidentified power which greatly boosts the abilities of people who believe in one another. As a result, he was greatly sought after not only in the school, but in the world. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order There are four heroines: Akane, Touko, Yuzu, and Yves. You may play in any order you like . Some of Touko's route is spoiled by other routes, so you may want to play hers earlier. I'm personally going Akane -> Touko -> Yves -> Yuzu. Route Guideline Yasukuni Akane Kamishiro Touko Someya Yuzu Yves Elaine Austin Attribution This walkthrough was created by me with information obtained on seiya-sega.com Flying Pantsu

  29. I have had many of these, people expect interesting answers from me. But I give them the astonishing #no I don't know why many of my friends (at least the male ones) find it weird that someone who had the ability to get a girlfriend didn't just because the women in his reach "didn't suit his taste" , is it that weird? O.o Also I find it really weird that highschoolers care about that shit more than they care about their college and future plans..... Put your priorities right, gdi. In the meantime, I am actually glad Hanako is enjoying his trip this much ^-^ , and tbh I don't envy him. I don't want a sleeping life-long sickness in compensation for getting a gf. Actually I don't want to be ill at all in order to get a gf no matter what the physical illness is.

  30. I'm not sure I understand your point. I tend to agree with you, maji koi is far from a masterpiece, and I've often wondered why people consider it so. That said, it's certainly not a bad VN, and there's no reason to go around insulting those who like it. Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen anyone who gets attacked for pointing out the flaws. Hell, the entire translation team got annoyed at most of S(stupid poorly written H-scenes everywhere), and most of us dislike some/many of the characters. But overall, we like the VN, other people like the VN, so we wanted to make it so people could read it. If it's not your cup of tea, that's one thing, but I don't see a reason to go around insulting those who do enjoy it.

    What are you playing?

Very easily, her boy-speak pushes my impression of her somewhere between annoying as hell and downright disturbing, the same going for her mannerisms and attitude. Not counting the other Toko, she's honestly my least liked character so far in my re-read. I hope this will change as I am still in the beginning, her being the main heroine and all, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. I remember being rather indifferent about her back when I read the TLed version, but most of my dislike for her now comes from the things that would get mostly lost in English, so it makes sense, I suppose. Tojiko Tsudzuriko is clearly best girl.

I didn't like Toko either, but I can't say I liked any of the characters in Kara no Shoujo... I don't think I'll read Kara no Shoujo 2. I'm glad I read Cartagra though, and the characters were exactly what made it a bit better to me. Kazuna was hilarious. I've been picking up way too many things lately. I've finished the first LeyLine game and started the 2nd one while I'm still reading Comyu and Himawari.. but I also couldn't resist starting Sorcery Jokers... and work is eating away at my free time, rip. Choices are hard.. but I guess I'll tie up the loose ends first before continuing Sorcery Jokers and the 2nd LeyLine. Although I enjoyed Sorcery Jokers so far...
