  2. Not a nukige, but it could as well be. I've recently read a light-novel where a guy grew a second dick to have better sexual experience. And it also included an immortal young girl exterminating the whole city, because due to her ridiculous skills every person who saw her wanted to have sex with her before both her and them died (and she can't die, remember?) And she also leveled up to a ridiculous degree in the process. And she is also a genderbent male. WTF, Japan? And it isn't even a 18+ light-novel.

    Shirogane no Soleil Review

Shirogane no Soleil -Successor of Wyrd- <<Unmei no Keishousha>> ( "The soliel of silvery-white" - Successor of Wyrd << The Fated successor >> ) This is the first game in Skyfish's epic norse mythology series. I had never even heard of this game before Clephas made a blog post about it a little earlier this year, and that might be the case for many. Having finally played the game myself, I have to ask... how is this possible? Why is such a great game not more well known? This VN truly deserves more exposure than it currently has. Introduction: Shirogane starts off with our main character, Ryuuhei, and his sister Tamako on their way to a set of ancient ruins in Iceland. Ryuuhei is not an archaeologist like his sister, but was dragged along by her on the pretense of being her "bodyguard." Ironically, that is exactly what he ends up being. Ryuuhei's group gets pulled into an encounter with a strange creature called "Berserk", a monster made up by the broken soul of an ancient warrior, which fell in battle ages ago. Powerless against this incredibly dangerous foe, Ryuuhei prays for help, asking for power-- the power to protect the people he loves. His call is answered by a slumbering Valkyrie, Sol, who makes a contract with Ryuuhei. She will fight for him, in exhange for his life force. Every time she uses her powers, she drains some of Ryuuhei's life force out of his body, shortening his life. They fight off the Berserk together, but this is merely the beginning of their tale. This seemingly random encounter might not have been as random as they thought. One might even call it... fate. Story The story in Shirogane is fantastic. It's told in two parts, "Valkyrie in love", and "Successor of Wyrd." Some of the story takes place in the present, while certain other parts takes place in the past. Shirogane contains tons of refrences to norse mythology, though the descriptions of characters and events from norse mythology in the VN are not necessarily identical to the "real thing". Therefore, while familiarity with norse mythology helps with appreciating certain aspects of the game's story, it is not at all needed. What matters in terms of refrences are all explained well enough in game, and seeing as they usually put a unique spin on things, it is not at all needed to know everything there is to know about norse mythology before reading this. (That being said, knowing some of the general concepts about who is who, and what is what will certainly make it an even more enjoyable read.) Although Shirogane is a very serious story, with tragic themes riddled all over it, just like normal stories from norse mythology, the game contains a good number of humoristic slice of life moments as well. That being said, all of these moments fits very well into the flow of the story. We are seeing things from Ryuuhei's point of view, as he deals with the fact that his own life span is constantly being drained because of his contract with his Valkyrie. As a result, you feel a little more attatched to these everyday moments, since they are seen through the eyes of someone who only has so much time left to enjoy them. In addition, the comedy is pure gold most of the time. The slice of life moments very rarely feels out of place, and never gets in the way of the story. The humor in the game had me literally laughing out loud so many times, I lost count. Characters: One of the biggest strengths of this game is without a doubt the characters. Each character feels unique and is well fleshed out. They all add something to the story in their own ways, and it's hard not to grow attatched to them, be it heroes, anti-heroes or straight up villains at times. The interactions between the characters truly pulls out all sorts of emotions from the reader, making the story feel like one hell of a roller coaster ride. (In a good way. Prepare your tickets to the feel train, folks.) While the "good guys" are all very well done, my favorite characters were honestly the villains / anti-heroes that are introduced throughout the game. On top of making fantastic "villains", the "duos" in the game are brilliant. Essentially every single character is paired up with another in some way, and they all complement each other greatly. These "duos" were without a doubt one of the best parts about the game in my opinion. Be it heartbreaking moments or hilarious ones; nearly all the most impactful moments in the story stems from one of these duos' interactions. Art, Music and Writing: As shown in the screenshots above, the art is nicely detailed. Considering this game was released in 2007, the art is very impressive. The amount of special effects, cut-scenes and CGs is no joke either. Sadly, things aren't as good in the music department. The music is by no means bad, but it does feel a little bland at times. Certain tracks do work very well with the tone of the story, and are straight up beautiful to listen to, but others feel repetitive and aren't that impactful. So, my complaint with the music would be the inconsistent quality of the tracks. That being said, this is hardly a big issue, as the writing, art and story makes slightly repetitive music matter very little in the end. Overall, I have very few complaints about this game. It was a fantastic read from beginning to end, and I strongly recommend reading it. I don't use the term kamige a lot, but this definitely qualifies in my personal opinion. You can buy all the Soleil games on DMM. (NSFW LINK!!!)

  4. I've loudly announced it whenever the question of what's my nerdy interest comes up. So there have been quite a few. My mom and my brother know of it. Along with most of my current friends. It's gotten a lot easier to talk about because they are much more widely avaliable. I can just point to stiens gate or dokie dokie instead of let's say "Bleeding Dicks Of Lust: Necro Necro Vomit Fun Time" as an example of what a VN is.

  6. My gf knows more about it than she probably wanted to, but she even somewhat accepts my fixation on yuri and other weird stuff I show her from time to time. At least we're fully honest with each other. I share my Steam account with my brother so he has full access to my VN library, embarrassing userpage and all the reviews I've written, but I don't think he ever cared enough to check these things out/read them. My closest friend knows about it but he more or less hates everything anime so there's not much to talk about there. Also he's a bit of a homophobe so my liking for yuri weirds him out. My mother knows I'm into "anime" becuase she saw it dozens of time on my computer, but she's clueless about the topic and I'm far too old for her to question my tastes. Basically as I don't read VNs for porn I'm very transparent about my hobbies, I'm way past being embarrassed about watching/reading something after all those years of brony activity and using my fan knowledge for university projects. I don't really care if someone finds it weird - I know well enough myself that I'm a weirdo, if someone can't accept that it's their problem.

  8. This is the third game in the series that began with Chuusingura (please don't judge that particular work by the utterly shitty translation). I do highly recommend that you play both Chuusingura and Bushi no Kodou before you play this game, because it is necessary to fully understand some of the events that occur (particularly in the true Hijikata ending). First, a bit of background about the Bakumatsu period. Essentially, after Admiral Perry forced open Japan with the threat of his cannons, the Bakufu (also known as the Tokugawa Shogunate), was forced to sign the usual set of unequal treaties Western nations forced on Eastern ones with less advanced tech during that period of history. Japan's peculiar double-headed political structure at the time, with the Emperor 'lending' his authority to the Shogun of the time in order to rule Japan and the then-emperor's stated wish for the exclusion of foreigners lent anti-Tokugawa factions and ambitious feudal lords the justification they needed (mostly to convince their followers) to start moving against the Bakufu. This was made worse when one of these factions succeeded in assassinating Chancellor Ii, who directed the political purges and authoritarian political moves of the Bakufu immediately following Perry's actions. This gave others the idea to do similar things to anyone they saw as supporting the Bakufu, and Kyouto became the center of a bloody series of assassinations of officials and merchants who sided with the existing authority or benefited from foreign contacts. The Aizu Clan, which was given the authority and rather nasty job of bringing peace to Kyouto, recruited ronin (masterless samurai) in order to form a police force that would capture or execute the other ronin making trouble in the city. This resulted in the formation of the Roushigumi, which later became the Shinsengumi seen in Hakuoki, Peacemaker Kurogane, and the Rurounin Kenshin OVAs (Saitou Hajime in the main series was also a member). Historically, the Shinsengumi, despite having suffered a number of internal disputes and factional splits in the years leading up to the fall of the Bakufu, were amongst the few who fought to the end against the new government, and Hijikata Toshizou's final death and his death poem are one of the most incredibly romanticized objects amongst samurai-loving weaboos of the classic stripe. Some left-leaning history buffs in Japan blame the romanticization of the Shinsengumi and the characters from Chuusingura for the intense rise in nationalism and insane glorification of samurai culture that occurred leading up to WWII. Now down to business... it should be stated that this game is about fifteen times more violent than Chuusingura was. The protagonist and other members of the Shinsengumi killed people on a daily basis with swords in broad daylight, and they don't really hold back when it comes to portraying that. This game is also just as long as Chusingura (maybe slightly longer) was, despite being essentially one long path for most of its length (with about a third of it devoted to individual paths). This is because the story covers about six years worth of chaotic events, both political and personal. Going into this game with a full knowledge of the fates of the Shinsengumi members, I couldn't help but wish some of their fates would be changed (hint: of the original membership, only Saitou Hajime and Shinpachi live to see old age), and there are a lot of characters I honestly wept for... no matter what game I see him/her in, Sakamoto Ryouma is always an admirable character and seeing the pointless deaths of a number of clear-eyed individuals with an eye toward the future is just as bad. However, this game follows history to the end in the Hijikata path and for most of the game otherwise... and while the Shinsengumi might be cultural icons now, their lives were colored with blood and tragedy. There are four main paths, three side-paths (paths for heroines that die or are otherwise separated from the main cast for some reason), and one true path (Hijikata Ending 2). The main paths include Okita Souji, Kondou Isami, Hajime Saitou, and Hijikata Toshizou. Okita's path... well, if you've seen any of the many anime (except Gintama) where he pops up, you'll know what I mean when I say it ends on a sad and somewhat empty note. Kondou Isami's path is marginally better (if you know about Kondou's historic fate, it is nice to see it changed). Saitou's path is significantly better and more detailed, as are the three side-paths (which is somewhat ironic). Hijikata's paths are, of course, the most complete-feeling and satisfying, though the first one left me in tears for a solid ten minutes. This game does have some major flaws... there was an obvious history buff's obsession with detail when it came to portraying a lot of the historical events involved, and that aspect could start to feel interminable in the space between the story's main turning point and the heroine paths. However, I found myself willing to forgive that flaw in the end. Overall, this was an excellent story, and it takes relatively few liberties with history (beyond feminization of historical figures), which is unusual in Shinsengumi portrayals. The most unusual aspect of the game (the protagonist's ability) was mostly a dormant issue for the greater part of the game, so it often left me with a nice illusion that I was seeing through the eyes of a real Shinsengumi member. I was surprised at one revelation in the true ending, though... HUGE SPOILERS

  9. Although I can think of a few nukige from that synopsis thread that would most likely make me cry... Just in a slightly different way than Clannad. EDIT: In the main topic, I will keep claiming that Ace Academy has one of the best little sister characters in history and if you don't pursue any romance route, you get some fun extra interactions with her. She's not a love interest, if that's what the OP was looking for, but she was the highlight of the whole VN for me. :]

  10. The problem is though, it would make the game better. The issue is not the H content that was removed. Fair enough, some people don't care about that. That's fine. The problem is though, that the lewd jokes, sexual humor, nude sprites and so on in ChuSinGura is riddled all over the game, even in scenes with important plot developments. When you go into the game and pick out all of these parts, you are slowly but surely picking out pieces of dialogue and narration that's meant to be there in the first place. Things that aren't meant to be removed at all. After picking the game clean of naked sprites, sexual jokes, bath scenes and all the other content they removed, you are most likely looking at hours worth of reading time gone from the game. If this content was literally just H-scenes, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but the issue is that what is cut is mostly dialogue and narration that's actually relevant to the story most of the time. That's how well integrated the sexual humor is in this game, and that's why removing/ re-writing all of it harms the integrity of the original writing. Like in the example I made above, in that one short scene alone, you already lose a decent chunk of lines that was meant to introduce you to Sayo, Muku and Kinu. Sure, you get more details about them later, but do you see the problem? When this is repeated over and over and over, you start to lose important information, and it just keeps snowballing. Sure, no one really cares if a boob joke was cut out. But, by re-writing or cutting the lines around those jokes every time they occur, tons of relevant content gets lost in the process. (And the reason a patch was never made, is because the company who handled this terrible TL actually went out of their way to edit these parts, Moenovel style. Even though they were working off what was already an "all-ages port", by Japanese standards, they still edited it heavily.) They had an all-ages port, but still fucked it up. Good job, guys. And that's the problem. (On top of the terrible TL that butchers the writing, the bad engine and so on.) Honestly just a terrible, terrible localization.

  11. Given that there was a steam sale going, I had ten dollars in my wallet, and I'm on break, I decided to buy and read some cheap OELVNs that I've been interested in a while. The games in question were Aviary Attorney, and Sweetest Monster. Now, in retrospect, I should have played Aviary Attorney second, because I certainly could use a pick-me-up after Sweetest Monster, ahaha. Aviary was like Phoenix Wright, except with birds and more puns (if you can even believe it). While I like Ace Attorney more, Aviary certainly stands on its own merits. The production is relatively good, and there's nothing quite like it in VNs. The 19th century France setting was a relatively unusual one, and it was really refreshing. The characters are likable, and while they aren't complex, they did everything they needed to in a game like this. The gameplay was similar to Phoenix Wright, but there were a few differences. Most notably, you can fail entirely to collect all of the evidence beforehand, thus screwing yourself over before the trial even begins. Aviary Attorney is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially for it's current ~$3.70 price. Sweetest Monster, on the other hand, was my first ebi-hime VN. And if this is a good indicator of her work's quality, then I need to pick up more. It follows a man who meets a catgirl in the midst of marital problems, to grossly oversimplify. Frankly, I shouldn't say much about the plot of a 2 hour game at all. The atmosphere was incredibly uncomfortable without coming off as too heavy, and as adorable as the catgirl Belle is, while reading this game you can't quite shake the feeling that something is off. There's a sort of creeping unease that develops as you slowly start to realize the implications of the game's events. But it's definitely a good experience and I have quite a bit to say about it, so I'm throwing that in the spoiler tag. So in short, Aviary Attorney was good and fun and Sweetest Monster was fantastic, and they're both good choices, especially given their current price tag. And thanks to anyone who devoted their time to reading this ungodly text wall, ahaha.

  15. RockTheClockGaming, an independent game company of two, Caty Herndon and Marty Duff, presents to you, its first game, The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot! We've been working hard at this game for almost 2 years now and we're still not done! So please keep in mind that everything you see here may change in the future. The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot, is an exciting point and click adventure game where you search for clues, question witnesses, and put together the facts to figure out who dun it! In addition to this, it is also a visual novel with a rich story driven by the ever optimistic protagonist Grace Sinclair! Available for PC, Linux, and Mac. Download here!!! Please Support Us Here: Kickstarter Trailer Synopsis Grace Sinclair is a less than stellar student. In fact, she’s flunked out of her high school at 20 years old! That’s not even the worst of her problems. When she gets home later that day, her dad kicks her out! Now starving and homeless, our hero bravely steals a snack from the convenience store on the other side of town. Just then, a masked man comes in! He holds up the store, waving a gun around and demands for all the money in the register or there’ll be consequences. The police show up and out of luck, Grace is able to help them find out the identity of the robber. The head detective, Delilah Araceli, is so impressed she offers Grace a job. Feeling that this may be her chance to make a true difference in the world, she accepts the job! The only problem is, Grace does NOT have good reasoning skills and on top of that has a condition where she faints at the sight of blood! As you progress through the story, it’s up to Grace to solve cases from homicide to domestic abuse to the legends of the mysterious and murderous serial killer known only as “The Banshee”. All while she’s hiding her secret from her quirky co-workers, who I remind you are DETECTIVES, or else she’ll end up back on the streets! She’ll have to solve her hardest case yet when she faces, The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot. Here's what other people thought of our game when they play tested it! Characters Grace Sinclair Very optimistic, caring, and naive. She’s terrible at English (held back twice because of reading problems and started school a year late). Absolutely, adores her dad and takes care of him when he has episodes of intense depression. Faints at the sight of blood. Lem Yasui Very perceptive and sarcastic. He finds others in awkward or uncomfortable situations funny, and takes great enjoyment in placing them there though he’d never do anything to cause others harm. Has a lot of confidence and this can sometimes lead him to do odd things that he is convinced is normal such as ride elevators with his back turned to the door. He is also not very good at expressing his feelings or hearing feelings from others and can be rightly classified as a tsundere. Delilah Araceli Smart, clever, beautiful, and kind. Though she is intelligent and fun to be around, she is unaware of these qualities and as a result is self doubting and socially awkward. She believes that using the younger generation’s lingo will make her seem younger and more attractive but often comes off as trying too hard. George Poppell Family-oriented, can’t talk enough about his kids. Even carries around their sonograms and birth certificates. He’s not very social, and usually declares dramatic statements incorrectly when excited. For example, when he proposed to his wife, he told her he was having heart failure. When she insisted on bringing him to the hospital, he frantically apologized and said he meant that she had stolen his heart and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Bernard Bejerot At his job, Bernard is very enthusiastic and no rule is too small to break. Off the clock, he is very endearing and kind. He cries at every movie where a county law is broken. He can’t get angry without tearing up and sincerely believes world peace can be achieved. Game Mechanics Finding Clues The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot isn't about clicking everything on the screen hoping you'll find everything. When you search for clues, everything that Grace thinks is important to the case will light up! This is done when you scroll your mouse over an important item. Everything you find is kept in the little evidence folder in the top left corner. Blood Meter Not all evidence is pretty. Sometimes they're covered in blood! Since Grace faints at the sight of blood, she can only look at 4 bloody items before passing out! It's up to you to decide which pieces of evidence will help your case or drive you around in circles! Don't worry though, the game will ask you whether or not you want to look at an item if it has blood on it. Questioning Witnesses Questioning witnesses is an important way to find clues and catch the villain! If you play good cop, some witnesses may feel comfortable opening up to you, but other witnesses will use it as a chance to take advantage of you and completely ignore your questions! If you play bad cop, some witnesses may feel scared and completely gush all the juicy details of the case! But! Other witnesses will get offended and not want to speak with you! It's up to you to figure out what kind of personality your witness has and what kinds of things you'll have to say to make them talk! If you don’t get any information out of your witness, the case will be that much harder to solve! Please support us here! Didn't really think people would copy actions from the content they are watching/reading, but maybe I was wrong. Lots of incest eroge = lots of incest? I don't have a sister myself so it probably is less weird to talk about porn with your sister than I think. Just kind of wanted to make this comment for fun since people were mentioning their sister.

  28. There is pretty much always a risk in regard to content that breaks the obscenity laws, whether it is just watching something online, buying something online or importing something. The less regulated the area the lower the risk. Internet provider gets no gain from looking through all your data other than potential blackmail material, something that is unlikely to be used unless you become rich or important in politics. Banks have less data to look through to find something and therefore purcheses are a bit more risky, however unless the government is pushing them to look for these things they have no insentive to bother unless it seems very shady. Physical goods however are checked by the postal service and thus if the person checking it see something they think is illegal they might look more into it and you can get charges. Publishers like Mangagamer often have tame covers where loli characters do not appear in sexual situations to counter this, ofc this only decrease the chance of it being picked out as questionable content and will not make it 100% safe. Atleast this is how I think the situation is.

Higurashi doesn't have any explicit romance (not with the protagonist, at least), but it's pretty cute before disturbing stuff starts to happen. There are several yandere characters. The art style depends on what version you play.

  30. I am from Norway and import my eroge physically. When looking for obscenity laws I found this on wikipedia However this law seems rather vague. For instance it would seem like it would also include things that are considered ecchi, and atleast in terms of ecchi I can think of a few anime and manga sold in Norway that break these rules. Also I have never heard anyone getting into trouble because of this. So while the law seems bad I don't think it is actually enforced in terms of drawings. Btw considering how vague the law is I gues things like Romeo and Juliet as well as things like Game of Thrones would also be banned. So in the end it seems like a nonsensical law.

  33. Edit: I should note that Last Cavalier is more attractive mainly because it has some really interesting variations on history's flow based on who you save. In particular, I recommend checking out Sakuma's path and Sakamoto's path, because those two dramatically alter history's flow. Sakuma was a scientist in the truest sense, and a lot of history speculators think that if he hadn't died so early on, Japan's modernization would have been hurried by at least a decade. Ryouma, on the other hand, was something of a genius at getting people to agree with one another, and his assassination is said to have been the death of all possibility of a peaceful solution to the problems between the Tokugawa supporters and anti-Shogunate powers.

  34. Like Freestyle80 said, they keep the girls at the hotspring naked which is quite a big deal considering that back at Konosora we have Kotori with towel at the bath. Other than mess the name, the girls nipple was covered by steam (No pun intended) and Akito showed his (Sorry) c*ck was altered (The real SD CG was quite graphic). Also there's a fact that Pulltop still pulling their trick to hide the H scenes by changing that with kiss, and seeing that there's 17 sex scenes cut for English release (And 35 out of 111 CG that have the sex scenes was cut as well) it mean that we'll gonna see at least 17 kissing scenes. Other than those censorship, at least they didn't use 'eyes' as euphemism for breast anymore.

  36. It has to be specifically to Paraguayan's laws since South America is composed of many countries with their own laws. Brazil doesn't have almost anything against buying games/art, except when it envolves children (pornography or children present somewhere where nudity is being shown). Like I said, you have to check specifically how things work in your country. If you really, REALLY, RE-A-LLY wants to support the devs, you could pirate this game (cof cof cof) and buy another legally that you know it is safe. IDK, buy Fata Morgana on MG's site and then download the other game. Helping the community AND playing what you want. AND not being arrested. Win win!

  40. Unfortunately, these days someone also asked for trap heroines and I, of course, went looking for more interesting titles... and there were none :c If you really don't like nukiges, probably you will have a pretty hard time both with traps and teacher heroines :/ If you are into Yuri, I can recall Nurse Love Addiction having a teacher route (it has to be the first you play!!!). Also, still on that, you should read Kindred Spirits on the Roof. Although it has a lot of different romance stories, one of them is a yuri teacher x student. If I remember any non-yuri games I'll come back Edit: as for feminine boys, I recommend Fashioning Miss Lonesome. It is an otome game with one of the heroes being a fashion designer who is pretty non-masculine.

  41. My first day of Highschool... * Half the bullies who had been tormenting me on the school bustrips before were going to this school, and were already sizing me up. * Half the students in my classes were just horsing around, being disruptive in class. I was like "nope!". Never went to highschool ever again. Fortunately, my parents didn't mind. I'd already had nothing but problems over my entire schooling life one way or another anyways. I got my education via other means in the end. Basically the education system has been almost nothing but heartache for me, and I've had absolutely nothing to show for it either. Still, I did have some good memories here or there....
