  1. The whole 'you're ignorant' thing is just a way to attack an argument without actually attacking an argument. For the record, I think non-Australians who take an interest in Australian politics are far more qualified to talk about our Federal system then my ignorant, bogan neighbour named Bob who spends all day getting smashed off his face before collapsing on the ground scratching his ballsack. These are the type of people who shrug their shoulders and say 'I dunno' when you ask them who the head of State is. These are the people who shrug their shoulders and say 'I dunno' when you ask them how they managed to set their arse-cheeks on fire. The idea that the common people of America will have a more fundamental understanding of the Federal electoral system in America, its pros, its flaws, and so on because they live there is very, VERY flawed. I know this for a fact because I've had to lecture quite a few Americans on why their country is a Republic. Yes, that's right, they had no clue what their country was and I, an Ozzie bloke, did. It's very simple, and yet somehow they remained clueless for a number of decades. Sure, they knew the culture of America at a local level very well, but they were pretty ignorant about America as a nation. Conversely, I acknowledge interested people in other countries (oh say, like the UN ahahaha) could be quite well informed about Australia's immigration policy (AKA could be quite miffed about Australia's immigration policy,) and could talk in detail about it if they wish, and yet I doubt they'd know much about the local council mergers affecting NSW, and which previously affected Vic and QLD. In those instances, people on the ground would probably have more knowledge. To keep ramming home the point, I can rattle off the problems China's facing with their aging population in a fairly detailed manner without having to 'live there,' and in a way the majority of their poor farmers would never be able to (despite living there) because those poor farmers have more pressing concerns on their mind (like survival.) So it depends on who you're talking about in each country and it depends on how local the matter is. Many people living in a country are just unaware and ignorant of what's going on around them, and they're ignorant by choice, sometimes they have other priorities or it just doesn't interest them. Someone who takes an interest in Australian politics and news undoubtedly knows more about what's going on at a 'nationwide level' than many inhabitants who spend all day on their 'Facebook' taking photos of food or cats or whatever people take photos of these days. Sure, Neighbour Bob may know what's going on at a local level (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here,) but I doubt he knows what's happening at a regional, or State level ... unless it directly impacts his wallet, or his safety, and few things do. But talking about America's system of Government, well anybody who's interested can easily analyse THAT. Just like Frenchies can easily analyse Australia's system of Government.

  3. Hello there, everyone, prolly everyone here knows me...oh wait, no one? no problem, it's not like i need for your attention at all! baka! so, before i start...Oh, please, Okabe, i'm not going to advertise your shitty inventions, they are all useless, now let me do my work! Well, as prolly you know, it's been more than 2 years that i'm browsing and being part of this community, and even after living the fuwapocalypse, we're still all alive, and that's kind of amazing...but that's not the topic, what i want to do, is that i'm using the same friggin avatar from the beginning of my carreer here, and, well, even if it's really cool, maybe it's time for some changing, no? But then, i'll only do that if you, people think i need a new avatar, the decision is yours only, then, you have the choice between. 1-Actual avatar, showing me doing my signature emoji, that i often use in the visual novel to tease that baka Okabe. 2-Me, with the lab coat from the american Victor Condia University, back in the days, i worked on a super top secret project, way better than visual rebuilding. 3-Me, leisuring at a local coffee shop i really like, i sometimes like to drink some latte or capuchino, but then, i remember my only drink is dr pepper. Then, good luck everyone.

  4. These are just a few thoughts that I've had after experiencing various gameplay VNs over the years. First, understand that I see VNs as reading material (in the same vein as manga but with the addition of voice, some animation, and detailed narration) first and games second. Second, the type of gameplay most likely to be fused to a VN (strategy or turn-based rpg) are ones I played for well over a decade before I first encountered VNs, so I have at least some qualifications to evaluate them. First, for the gameplay... no matter how you express it, the average VN gameplay is several levels below the average console strategy game, srpg, or jrpg in terms of quality and design. Some of the best of the type - such as the Ikusa Megami series - just barely reach the same level as stuff released before the turn of the century as far as those two aspects go. Second, balance... in a VN hybrid, having a good balance between the story and gameplay is vital. In other words, the grinding needs to be minimalized and difficulty should be adjustable. VN hybrids without adjustable difficulty levels (with an easy version that really is easy) tend to result in a VN where the story is told in snippets between long stretches of grindy gameplay (Softhouse Chara's games tend to have this flaw in excess). Third is feature creep... a lot of hybrids have weird gameplay features that make the game confusing without really adding anything enjoyable to the game. An example of this is the recruitment system from the 'breeder' Venus Blood games. To be blunt, this game mechanic, while fitting in with the atmosphere in the story, made the games unnecessarily complicated, and not in a good way. Fourth... story pacing. A lot of hybrids have horrible pacing. In particular, many of them start out really well, grasping the reader/player with a dramatic prologue or first few chapters... then suddenly become a complete slog or grind in the mid-game. To be honest, the most egregious offender in this case are strategy-conquest VNs, where the story won't progress significantly until you've achieved an artificial goal, like conquest of a certain region. Generally speaking, most strategy-conquest VNs (such as Sengoku Rance or Madou Koukaku) start out really well, with an interesting beginning to the story... and suddenly become devoid of story for about thirty hours if you don't act in exactly the right way. The Sengoku Hime and Sangoku Hime series are classic examples of this. Both series tend to have first-rate beginnings, but the story gets put to the wayside pretty early in the game. As a result, you essentially get stuck playing a sub-par strategy game for ten to fifteen hours before you manage to restart the plot. This is tiring and boring, to say the least. My conclusion? Generally speaking, VN hybrids can be good, but that is only if the VN aspects don't become an adjunct for the third-rate gameplay that tends to be tacked onto them.

  5. You are pretty severely mistaken about various plot points. There are very good reasons why they occurred. Unfortunately, I can't go into details without massive spoilers. Also, a lot of Root A's events are more important than they seem. There's a ton of subtle foreshadowing in particular. Root A is fairly different from the rest of the VN, so how much you enjoyed it isn't terribly representative of how much you'll like the remaining parts of the story. They strongly prioritize characterization and world-building over suspense. That said, I would recommend getting all of Root A's heroine scenes before moving on. They have some valuable information and contribute a bit to characterization (though all three characters get much more development later on). The normal ending is also a must-read.

  6. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/kodansha-manga-bundle Well this came as a surprise, Humble Bundle has decided to have its first ever manga campaign where you can get multiple digital comics for a pretty low price. If you guys want to start supporting the manga industry, this is a very good entry point, because even at the highest tier of $17 you're still saving a butt ton of money than if you were to purchase all of these comics individually. Also, these are completely DRM Free, which is even more rare for digital comics. The list of comics available in this campaign: Attack on Titan Vol. 1, 2 and 3 Parasyte Vol. 1 and 2 Inuyashiki Vol. 1 and 2 Vinland Saga Book 1 Space Brothers Vol. 1 Ajin: Demi-Human Vol. 1 and 2 The Heroic Legend of Arslan Vol. 1 Knights of Sidonia Vol. 1 The 7 Deadly Sins Vol. 1 Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Omnibus Vol. 1st I hope in the future we'll have more digital manga humble bundles, there's lots of potential here.

    Data extraction thread

For as far as I know, each SiglusEngine game has its own encryption keys for the scripts file. This means that the work of finding the encryption keys and adjusting the tools needs to be redone for every single game. The Hanasaki Workspring tools work on Hanasaki Workspring and nothing else. Since I already found the Hanasaki keys, I could do this for the other games too if you want. I need the following for each game: A copy of the game's memory after it started up (passing the DRM checks). This can be obtained with Process Dump by running it as "pd32 -p SiglusEngine.exe" while the game is running. It will produce a lot of files; the one I need will be called SiglusEngine_exe_SiglusEngine.exe_400000.exe. The game's Scene.pck

  9. There are those moments where you've seen it at least 900 billion times to the point you can predict everything what's going to happen even the character dialogues. What are some VN kinks, tropes, cliches, stereotypes, and common logic flaws you want to be toned down or even completely eliminated? Well I have probably 100+ but I'll post my top 5 for now and reply/add more as I see people post theirs. 1. School setting - Does "everything" have to happen in school mainly in high school? Umineko, Ever17, and Steins;Gate disagree. You can have a great plot while in college, workplace, or outside of school. Make more original settings please Japanese Devs. Heck, even a vn that happens in the bathroom, in church/mosque, or under a bridge is better than in (high) school. 2. Protagonist walks into a room, sees a heroine naked - "Ecchi, hentai, baka, baka!!!!!" Poor, innocent protagonist is now labeled a pervert. Good bye logic? Wait... Bitch, why don't you lock the room if you don't want to be seen especially if you are aware that a man is in the house?! 3. "Damee! Yamete!" - Apparently "No!", "Stop!" and "You can't!" means "Yes!", "More!", and "Keep going!" in visual novels' "sexy" time? Imagine if the protagonist actually stops every time she says that? That would be absolutely hysterical. 4. Alone/Unhappy protagonist - Maybe a good 95% VN protagonists start out as a single man, poor, loner, and/or a virgin. Can there be a vn where the protagonist is already successful and actually a socialite? It might look like there's not much to work with the story, but successful, rich socialites have problems too you know. 5. Dates with heroines are linear/predictable - only consists of shopping, going to restaurants, movies (almost all VN dates have this), and possibly a love hotel if the date nails a critical hit. Not sure if the storywriters have been in dates before, but I can think of 50+ other things I could do while dating, not just those 3-4 things.

    I'm making a VN

This is my first time doing something like this. Though I am confident in my abilities, so i believe i can at least make a decent one. This is gonna be really tough. I have to work on everything. I haven't done much programming but this will be a good way to get experience. The story is one of the things i'm good at so I wont need to worry much. Music is also is a alright thing i can do. I can't create symphonies or anything but it's something lol. Art ugh probably the most difficult thing ill be doing. I suck at it xD. Don't worry though i have an idea for that. The only reason i'm even making this post is because i'm excited about this. It's gonna take a while but ill do it. Right now i'm in the process of making the story. So i'll come again some other time with progress made on it. That's it for now. Byee!

  14. I run Windows 10 64bits and had no issues with any vn's except with Dual Savior but that's a separate case entirelly. Other than that it's no different than it's been with Win 7, App locale works the same, supplemental fonts and everything really.

  15. I didn't have any problems with Win10 and visual novels yet, but text hookers are trouble makers. Chiitrans sometimes crashes and ITH requires a new version called ITH_VNR. I made a complete reinstall of Win10 on my own computer but I did upgrades on the ones from my parents and there weren't any problems with previously installed programs. However, I have to run Paint Shop Pro in compatibility mode since it seems to crash quite often otherwise. So most programs seem to run fine, but not all of them.

  16. About my question for branching, never mind. I kind figured that there will be a choice for chapter 8 in regard of heroine except Narukana for first playthrough. Although I knew that there will be some affection point, I still didn't knew of how much the point needed to triggering the route though (My guess would be around 50 points or so). By the way, I figured this thanks to the translated walkthrough from Animesuki user Last Sinner's. So, I'd decided to share the walkthrough on my MEGA here, and hopefully from there you could managed to play through it smoothly. Oh, by the way the walkthrough only gives general direction, not exactly steps so you also need to adapt depend on the situation. And once again hope the walkthrough help.

  17. Whenever something important happens in the US, the rest of the world holds onto its breath because it could have consequences on them too. That's becoming less and less true but it very much still is. Example given: if Trump gets elected the rest of the world kinda has to care about it, because four years of US policy denying climate changes is going to bring the impending environmental crisis a good 10 or 20 years earlier. So of course we're gonna care and we're gonna know about it because 1) it will be discussed in our local media 2) information about it is readily available in a language everyone (more or less) can read. Of course we're not gonna have the same point of view as an insider, and we won't be able to grasp some cultural intricacies. It's harder to discuss gun policies in the US when aspects of the issue are so specific to US culture, for example. I'm ready to make mistakes and be corrected if I ever try to talk about that topic (it doesn't interest me that much though). On the specific topic at hand, as already explained, western representative democracies have a lot in common, the US system and the french system were even founded by people who shared fairly similar ideas. Some of their flaws are gonna be broadly the same, others are going to be more specific to each country. The point is not even to bash one system or another here, I think both are shit. If I'm getting something terribly wrong in what I'm saying I'm ready to listen but I can't really do much if all I'm being told is "you're ignorant".

  19. S;G Phenogram, Moeka's chapter. Mayuri's chapter was interesting but the more bullshit wordlines they add the less I enjoy the game ( ). At least we get too see the inner toughts of all the main characters, Moeka is totally paranoid and Fairis is basically a female Okabe. It would have been much better if they remained on divergences similar to the ones we experienced in the original game.

  20. Not knowledge, per se, but culture, that's what you gain when you live in a country, and it's something an outsider can't simpy obtain, this perspective of an insider. You can look at all the data and facts and have an opinion based on that, of course, but you will never truly understand the narratives of a country, or even a community, unless you have lived in it. You will always be an outsider and your perspective will always be skewed because of it.

  22. The major problem in our government in America isn't too much democracy, it's that we use democracy against our better interests, because those in the game control the rules, and they play off the pervasive mindset that you *have* to vote for someone with a (D) or an (R) next to his or her name. George Washington, upon leaving office, had warned everyone about the dangers of political parties. Probably one of the wisest things he ever said - too bad no one listened. The two-party system has been indoctrinated into the collective mindset since just before 1800, and we collectively refuse to break out of the rut. This is also due in part because the campaign finance rules and other portions of campaigning are completely biased against third-party opponents. And mass media only helps fuel that by selecting only certain candidates for debates (which tend to be rubbish anyway). When presented with a decent third option, the party most likely to suffer from a loss of votes due to that candidate then goes on the attack with phrases like, "A vote for Valmore is a vote for SolidBatman" This message paid for and sponsored by OriginalRen for President, further discouraging potential third party votes by using scare tactics that voting for a third party candidate only enables the nemesis to win and you're throwing your vote away. Etc. Is it any wonder the US barely gets 50% voter turnout on an election year? Hell, look at the election now just with the primaries. Almost half the states in the nation won't even get a say in who the Republican candidate is because of this fucked up way we go state-by-state over months instead of having a single primary date for everyone. You can pretty much bank that statement with the Democrats, too, because the Bern is extinguished.

  23. Welcome to the internet. Let me say that for once, I know where you're coming from. As a guy living in the Middle East, I can't help but sigh when I see people overseas suggest ridiculously stupid solutions to the problems this region of mine faces. "Just nuke ISIS/Saudi/Iran/all za Middle East while you're at it" seems to be the general consensus at times. And surprisingly, I also agree with you on "the masses are stupid" point, and am rather surprised to see this new critique of democracy that is getting more and more prevalent over the internet. A few years back, especially around the start of the Arab spring, democracy was the divine way of a modern country to function that none would dare question, and anyone even considering something else is "Hitler". It's rather refreshing to see a little more open mindedness now. I don't claim to know much about American internal affairs so I can't comment much on it specifically. But I do think that this odd belief that Westerners in general seem to have, the belief that "democracy is the objective best thing ever", is rather... Troublesome, to say the least. It naturally demonizes every other alternative without much of a reason. If I were to ask most people today why Democracy is "good", the average answer will be something along the lines of "well, at least it's not fucking communism". Personally, I don't think there's a global, all-righteous and correct way to make a functioning government. While democracy has been relatively successful in the West, that is not the case for the rest of the world. If you look at the Middle East for example, you would find that monarchies are much more economically successful and progressive, and politically stable than "democratic" countries. In other words, "what might work for you won't necessarily work for everyone else". Whoever becomes president this time, there is going to be a very large segment of the population that won't accept the result. In my opinion, when the biggest Democracy starts not accepting the results of its own system, it's a sign that it's not working any longer. And that's really why systems are a thing: To make things work. If Democracy works in a certain place for a ceratin period of time, then it's the "correct" way as far as anyone can say, not for any deep philosophical reason. If it doesn't, then maybe a new way is better

  26. Oh wow, I see how that can be a problem then. That sucks. You should definitely try it out in your free time outside school, when you have the chance, especially if you really liked the anime. The LN series is great. The translation has been picked up again, so the new relases are still being translated, which is great. Currently there are 14 volumes. 3 chapters are translated of the last volume so far. If you want, I can try to edit out the PDFs and remove the pictures for you. I think it should be a fairly simple job.
