  2. I have uploaded episode 12 of the Fuwacast to my YouTube channel. The Major, who created all of the videos for my channel, has done an excellent job giving the cast a new look in celebration of its revival. The theme now reflects the changes which are going to be made to the front site; we are now using Emi's theme instead. The format of the videos has also changed slightly to make following the episodes a lot easier. Again, I want to thank The Major and Emi from the forums for taking the time to both create this video and give it an awesome new look. Thanks guys, and enjoy.

    No One But You

Hey guys~ Been a while since I updated this post last. DEMO NOW AVAILABLE Links below: Direct DL Steam On sale now: http://store.steampowered.com/app/367020/ No One But You is a Visual Novel/Dating Sim about Hideaki, a high school student who has just returned to his hometown, Okutama. Upon returning, Hideaki re-discovers a town he knew from childhood, meeting new friends and reuniting with those he had long forgotten. He resumes his high school life in the big city, quickly adapting to the change in pace, and before he knows it, Hideaki begins to think of this city as his home once more. Hideaki's life in Okutama is upbeat and fun, thanks to the many friends he makes, including Megumi, an energetic student council member; Chinatsu, a reserved senior in the literature club; Shiro, an unsociable music-lover; and Yui, an obstinate girl who rarely expresses herself honestly. Surrounded by an interesting group of friends, Hideaki lives out his days without a care in the world, content to enjoy a normal high school life. Whether he's going out with friends or studying for exams, his new life is truly peaceful. But not for long. As Hideaki's stay in Okutama continues, ghosts from his past begin to come back, increasingly intruding on the new life he's trying to build. As if that wasn't bad enough, his new friends all have secrets of their own, and the more Hideaki involves himself with their daily lives, the deeper into mutual despair he sinks. Will you be able to put to rest the evils of the past and finally live out the normal high school life you crave? Will you be able to put your friends' minds at ease, erasing the trauma and misery ruining their otherwise peaceful lives? Because whether you like it or not, for this very task it can be no one but you. A little info: At the moment we are partnered with both Sekai Project and MangaGamer Characters: Screenshots:

Since this is my very first blog/review please give me all kinds of feedback and be super harsh so I know what I can improve on. I really want to have my own style about my reviews that's informative while also being a little silly and light-hearted

  12. Just finished Hatoful Boyfriend until True epilogue. I have quite mixed feeling here, but I still believe it's a recommended read. It's short anyway. I feel that it's underrated in VN community, maybe because it's otome and gimmicky (at a glance, it's actually not that gimmicky the more you read). Anyway, I'll just a give a short review here. The bad things first: - Except True route and the overall main plot, the pace of some individual routes are freakin fast, barely resembling coherent stories. - The romantic developments often come out of nowhere. Even though it seems like it, romance is definitely the weakest point of this game. - Stats are generally not interesting, especially since they are mostly just used for route requirements. But its relevancy in combat scenes are hilarious. - True route requires you to have a huge suspension of disbelief and tolerant of deus ex machinas. - While the idea behind the main story is good, the execution could be better I feel. I especially don't like how the plot twists are revealed. It's like the writer is too impatient to reveal them. The good things: - The main story is actually quite good, in a somewhat scifi-wtf-kind-of-way. - While I flamed the individual routes, they are surprisingly good at planting little hints here and there, connecting them with the main story. Most of them are relevant and elicit 'oooh, so that's what they are!' feeling when their significance are revealed in True route. - I like the writer's take on some tropes. For example, the 'promise in childhood' trope is written on a different angle here. I like it. - The dialogues are funny! Or maybe it tunes with my sense of humor. The neutral things: - Birds are actually significant here, not just marketing ploy. I decided to read this when I found that Hatoful Boyfriend is not well-regarded in VN communities, but highly-praised in gaming communities instead. While I agree that it doesn't have the greatest plot/writing, I think it has better plot than most VNs out there. Unfortunately, the relatively low quality of the individual routes might spur you off. Still, it has the feel of grandeur story with big reveal, something akin to Ryukishi07 VNs, Ever17, 999, Euphoria, etc2, which makes it a good entry VN in my book. Just want to share my take with you all. EDIT: Fix formatting.

  15. do you have any recommendations similar to this one? (H-scenes not necessary, I honestly found them intrusive at some points) and is anyone still discussing it, or have people moved on by now? Well actually I haven't even read Princess Evangile so I don't know how it was but you might wanna try out Hoshizora no Memoria

  16. I played few Otome games recently and noticed that I unconsciously had really different approach on them. 1. I didn't go into the story as focused on characters. In VNs with routes for different characters I just go for the girl that seems most interesting (and best looking, I admit) and pursue her, sometimes blindly. This had led me to some awkward experiences like Miyako's route in Majikoi. Because I couldn't do so in Otome games I picked the choices that seemed natural and let the game choose a character for me. This was something that I have rarely experienced while reading VNs, I can't deny that my attraction to some characters twists my decision making. Following playthroughs felt more like the normal, because I was pursuing the remaining characters consciously. 2. The way I felt about the protagonist was vastly different. I felt really protective towards the protagonist and wanted to see her through the story safely and happy. I wasn't actively trying to romance some character, which meant that emotional development that happened later felt better because I was looking it more objectively. It was more like feeling content watching from the sidelines when the protagonist finds happiness, rather than being happy as the protagonist. There's less personal involvement from my part which makes reading about the romance much more enjoyable. I've only played a few otome games, but I was surprised how differently I experienced them. So I wanted to know if others experience otome games differently from Galge and how?

  18. Fun facts: seinen is a manga-only term, it has very few to do with "mature", and Claymore and Death Note are both shonen manga =o Otherwise, I recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

  24. I sit completely upright in my rolling chair (because my posture can at times represent the seriousness of my stance on reading, yes), with my PSVita in hand in-case of an emergency where I need lighthearted work training. I don't own an iPhone. In the event where I need to play a kamige, I prepare myself accordingly by bringing out my glasses and reciting lines from a manga that rips off TWGOK in my head. I tell myself that I 'should reach the ending', in a way that makes it seem as if it was inevitable that I'd do so (kamige's are both extremely easy and difficult to finish). I lay down on my bed to fap for anything, even my own imagination. I try to stay away from eating any or all foods because my room is already devoid of 'content' enough that I feel it would be tainting it just to bring an empty plate inside. In the event where I decide to replay Subarashiki Hibi (for the umpteenth time), though... Well, I don't think it's safe for the human mind to say what I do to prepare myself for that. I guess my name (referring to the one in my sig) is a good enough hint to explain. I'm relatively serious about my experiencing of all forms of otaku media, so this is probably just the tip of the iceberg for me from hereon.

    What are you playing?

I finished Swan Song. I really didn't like the good ending. It felt rushed and kind of cheap, like it was just summarizing most of the events taking place without going into details, with very few character interactions. "And suddenly everything got better and everyone lived happily ever after, the end." Which is unfortunate because the normal ending is so eventful and interesting, even though I prefer good ends to depressing ones. To give a quick example:

    What are you playing?

Okay. So I finished Episode 3 and 4 in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I'm about to finish the game and I'm still nowhere with Forest. Agh. That's all the praise I'm going to give it, though. There was literally no plot at all. I didn't expect it to be of premium quality in the first place Every time I read premium, I think of ice cream. Her scenes were the only one I read in the whole game. Probably because they're quite easy to get, and I wanted a scene. I was promised premium quality. ...All I get is ice cream.

  37. I've done plenty of videos, you know? I don't care what they sound like, I'm here to please the plebs. Apparently it sounds somewhat Scottish, or so some have told me. My favourite quote as well. I was born with it, might as well share it. (I'm much amazingness, hohoho ) Don't forget to make a three page miscellaneous thoughts post. How dare you skip?! Actually, please do. It's best heard in the background at random. Professionally so. For anyone who hasn't noticed, you can hear my native language near the end, and what my family has to put up with when I'm pissed. And yes, I do still live with my parents. It's a perfectly fine house to inherit, and I'm not getting married (at least no one told me anything), all is well.

  39. I watched those videos up to the point where he dismissed the Ange reality as being unrelated to the 'real' plot, which instantly shows that the guy has no idea what he is talking about. I think it's very important to bring this up in this thread before we get too far down the rabbit hole: None of the murders actually happened. 1&2 were just murder-mystery games written by Shannon to play with Battler and later picked up after the tragedy in the REAL world which is the one where Ange gets adopted by Eva. The tabloids took bits and pieces of the lore from the mystery games Shannon wrote and twisted them into the tabloid-story that was #3 about how Eva went evil and killed everyone with magic. Everything after that is just red-herring BS to try to force Ange to doubt her family. It represents the efforts by the media to tear apart the Ushiromiyas and expose all their 'dark secrets' to make sure no one can ever think good things of the family again. It pushes the focus more and more toward the mysteries and away from the original intent of the story. This is symbolized by control of the games being seized by wicked witches who just want to wallow in the sorrow of others. In the 8th game Battler finally retakes control and makes one last effort to show everyone (but mainly Ange) the real point of the whole series. The whole point of Umineko is to show the struggle in Ange. She has been raised hearing horrible rumors about her family, to the point where she has forgotten completely how kind they used to be. Throughout each game we are shown flashes of the true character of the Ushiromiya family, but the focus is always turned back to the murder mysteries and all that positive character development is pushed out of the spotlight. From the very first game, over and over, the clue 'without love it cannot be seen' is given, warning players that coldly looking at this family's tragedy as nothing but a murder mystery to be solved with logic will cause you to lose sight of the true purpose of the story. Magic, in the game, becomes a metaphor for Ange's belief in her own family. It's something she has no proof of, something that everyone around her will doubt and poison, but something that can become true for her as long as she believes in it. Maria, through her journal, guides Ange in this path. How? By contrasting Maria's journal with the things she has heard about Rosa being abusive and hateful toward her child, Ange sees that Maria chooses to (mostly) ignore the bad and believe in the good in her mother. The 'bad witch' that takes over her mother could be said to be stress, circumstances, or other things. Maria does not allow outside influences to break the 'magical' image she has of her mother being kind and loving. Without love, and the magic of believing in your family, she would be unable to see past the mean moods Rosa sometimes has. In the same way Ange is constantly given evidence that her family was full of horrible people, greedy and scheming. She is given reason to suspect some of them are murderers who would choose to kill each other over some gold. No one in the world (after Eva dies) knows the truth of the situation, thus making the truth of Ange's family a Schrodinger's Cat situation. Should she believe the circumstantial evidence people show her and everything told her by the tabloids, and even the nasty personality Eva had toward her? Or should she believe in her family as good people, worth her love and fond memories? The latter may as well be 'magic' in this world, because she will never be able to prove it and it will never have an effect that the people in the uncaring world will see. But the 'magic', if she can find the strength and love to believe in it, will give Ange strength to overcome the world that is trying to chain her down. And so the final choice given to Ange, metaphorically, is: Do you choose to believe, even if evidence is given you showing you otherwise, that your family was full of good, loving people? It's a tough choice, especially because in the metaphoric example Ange can literally see a different reality right before her eyes. But with love and strength and belief she can ignore the reality that the world is trying to force on her and use the magic of belief to love her family and move on. She then uses that 'magic' to create a series of beloved children's stories which 'purifies' the cursed Ushiromiya name. No longer will people associate 'Ushiromiya' with murder and black magic, but rather with uplifting stories beloved by millions of children. She essentially saves her family from the dark hell of doubt and derision that the world had thrust them into. In Umineko Ryuukishi07 created the greatest red herring the mystery genre has ever seen; he made the ENTIRE MYSTERY a red herring. It was only there to distract people from solving the question; what kind of people were the Ushiromiyas. Were they a family Ange could believe in? Or not? And thus the hint from the very first game gives us the answer, once we know the question. 'Without love, it cannot be seen'.
