  1. I see the whole thing pretty relaxed. When Konosora was released is was a brand new high quality VN amongst lots of old and average stuff. At that time it stood out and therefore it did really hurt that it was censored that way. But nowadays there are so many new and good releases from all kinds of publishers that it got almost impossible to keep up with all the new stuff anyway. So I'm almost grateful to get a reason to skip this one - there are lots of replacements to fill the gap. Moenovel doesn't care even the slightest bit about the English fan base, they only care about their sales. They therefore never had to reconsider their policy since Konosora sold great. So if anyone really wants Moenovel to get a change of mind, the best thing is to just not buy the title in this state. If sales are poor they might reconsider, but if sales are still good, why should they change anything?

  3. Also I'm not sure why there's weird line breaks on the original fan translation screenshots, maybe it's the way I installed it on Windows 10..

  4. Recommendations in Bold ~ I gather, that you liked the emotion/heart-wrenching aspect of grisaia. Try, Key VN's -> Clannad, Little Busters, Rewrite (no-h, but you are probably better of here) Narcissu (no-h) Majikoi -> Slice of life/School life is very good, Routes such as Wanko's can be very emotional (enough h-content to make up for the above games) Minori games -> ef, eden* Route structure is very different than what you are used to but it will hit you in the feels . (there is h-content) Enigma -> unvoiced, but really very good, very emotional (no-h) Yume Miru Kusuri -> This also deals with girls and their problems, (bullying, drug abuse) (there is h-content)

  5. This list won't feature the VNs in order of "how good they are". Rating them would be way too much of a clusterfuck to me. The VNs are not in their respective order. Meaning number 1 is not the best, and so on. 1_CHAOS; HEAD 2_Cross Channel 3_G-Senjou no Maou 4_Fate/Stay Night 5_Forest This Visual Novel is the easiest visual novel translated to get a bad ending without using a walkthrough- which just adds to the fun of it. It makes a massive amount of references to common literature, which makes it even better. 6_Katahane It may seem like an ordinary moege- the atmosphere is light, the story is full of cuteness, which you can note by the character design and soundtrack. It gets really good in the middle, and you'll be dying to know what happens in the end. A game with multiple perspectives, it's definitely one of the most enjoyable Visual Novels I've ever read. 7 Majikoi 8_Little Busters! 9_Tsukihime "You shouldn't tell lies that you can't even fool yourself with" 10_Swan Song A post apocalyptic Visual Novel. 11_Symphonic Rain It may seem like your ordinary moege. Trust me, it's not. 12_Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (and sequel) 13_Sekien no Inganock Steampunk. An atmosphere full of mysteries and references that will make your head blow up. 14_Steins; Gate A visual novel that deals extensively with time travel and it's consequences. 15_Utawarerumono 16_Fault: Milestone (1 & 2) 17_Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni 18_Kara no Shoujo 19_Umineko no Naku Koro ni 20_Planetarian 21_Ever 17 Another top 10. 22_Remember11 It lacks in the ending, but otherwise the story of this VN has enough to easily become one of my all-time favorites. 23_Zanmataisei Demonbane 24_Rewrite "Could it possibly be rewritten, this fate of hers?" Another one that enters the top 10. 25_Narcissu 26_Grisaia no Kajitsu 27_Saya no Uta Only if you enjoy dark and messed up settings. 28_Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni 29_Eien no Aselia 30_Rose Guns Days (1 & 2) There are small sections of gameplay on this one, but you can skip them by pressing the space bar, so this still qualifies. 31_Sengoku Rance I feel obliged to comment on this VN before suggesting it to anyone. It's an Alicesoft title, which speaks a lot for itself... If you don't know how it's going to be like, well.. Kind of tough to describe. Lots of sex, including comedy rape. Alicesoft tends to make the whole story a comedy until right near the end, where things actually do get serious. It's worth checking out, if you don't mind Rance's personality. 32_Phenomeno Want a short VN that can captivate you for their whole duration? Here is it. Visual novel adapted from the youth horror novel written by Hajime Ninomae and illustrated by yoshitoshi ABe. 33_Ef- A Fairy Tale of the Two 34_Dysfunctional Systems Another one great for those who want short Visual Novels. 35_Daibanchou Another Alicesoft title. While Rouga is not near Rance's level when it comes to pissing off people, alicesoft's style is something which often doesn't please people. 36_Yume Miru Kusuri The endings pack quite a punch. 37_Kikokugai- The Cyber Slayer 38_Eden 39_Hoshizora no Memoria 40_Katawa Shoujo Yep, it's somewhat overrated. Still, the fact that it is substantially easier for those who are starting to play visual novels to read should not be discarded, and overall, the story was good. 41_World End Economica 42_YU-NO 43_Shikkoku no Sharnoth Yep, there is a minigame on this one. If you download a save data you can skip the minigame, though. So it still qualifies. Another VN that enters my top 10. 44_Muv Luv Alternative The first Muv Luv didn't have enough to enter this list. You should still read it, though~ MLA is definitely awesome. 45_Dangan Ronpa 46_Comyu - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku 47_Hanachirasu 48_Ayakashibito 49_I/O 50_Deardrops

  6. So, I played and finished the game this morning with a buddy of mine, and hoooooooo boy, there's a lot to talk about. If you aren't familiar with the game, it just released on Steam on Oct. 6, 2 days before this post. Here's the steam page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/698780/Doki_Doki_Literature_Club/ So at first glance, it looks pretty moe, right? Then you see the warning: "This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed." Now, what could that mean? Such a cutesy, moe, romance visual novel has such a dark warning. This game is very different from what you'd expect, and it's such a unique experience. I'd recommend you definitely play it when you have the time, it's free after all. Now, to those of you who have played this game already, here's a thread for discussion if you'd like to discuss things. This is mostly just to notify people about the game, but discussion is welcome.

  7. Although I'm still missing a $500 144Hz monitor for that truly smooth, dynamic VN experience. Yay. I've even managed to miss that second typo while doing it. E-e-e-m-m-m-m-barrassment C-c-c-c-c-c-ombo!!!

  9. Yeah, I had that suspicion. But I am not reading the spoiler before I finish the game. Edit. And this the case where I'd rather go in completely blind and explore different choices myself rather than using a walkthrough.

  11. I have played the demo. Music is very good and really supports the tension well. Graphically it's great too. Introduction screens, the choice screen, the environments and the 'action' scene with the ambulance are all impressive. Movements were sometimes a bit confusing (not a big problem) and it's good that you included a map. The art style of the characters is not my taste, but I guess others might like it. I didn't know about Cheetah3D. I use Daz Studio for my novel. I also have 3D environments with multiple camera angles, except that you can't walk around yourself, it's just story driven. I don't have a demo yet. It will take a few more months before I feel that I have enough content for making one, but you can get an idea already about what I am doing here https://baetendirk.wixsite.com/7thgoddess I will mention your game on the Daz forum where we have a support thread for visual novels. It's always nice to see people use 3D rendered environments.

  13. I don't like Insem translation for 3 reasons: First it was translated from CHINESE to english, meaning it was a Japanese -> Chinese -> English translation. Second Insem kicked off from the team anyone that dared to suggest that his translation was in serious need of TLC and editing because it was crap and badly written (though it probably wouldn't have fixed the inherent problems with a J->C->E translation and the fact that Insem isn't really a great writter). Third Insem is an asshole and a racist.

  14. Yes, they should... When you are given 2 options, and one is objectively better than the other, choosing the worse one is weird. I can't even fathom that someone would ask this question. Are you really saying you are okay with TLs that are incorrect, simply because you're an "average reader?" ... What's even the point of TLs, if people don't care if they are accurate or not.

  16. Some of the vocabulary and sentence structure used in the SP version's narration seems slightly too formal to be from student's perspective, but it's still miles better than the fan tl. I'm impressed by the dialogue writing.

  17. Little Busters perhaps, especially the Steam version which got additional three new routes translated. Oh, perhaps both of Yoake and Symphonic Rain could be good alternative as well. If you want more from eroge side, then I guess both of Noble Works, HatsuKoi, Majikoi, and Dracu Riot should be interesting to you as well. Hope it'll be help.

  18. So far it sounds like you're all cut from the same mould Apart from the otaku stuff... I love music, hifi, audiophilia, build my own loudspeakers etc. , enjoy high performance cars and driving, PC tech, linux related development (I'm a kernel dev), bitcoin development, fine food and wine and all other forms of alcohol too (might start a distillery soon), beaches, skiing, touring Japan and eating its delicacies and experiencing its everything else, reading fantasy and scifi (not much these days), the environment and walking, movies and more... Half of that stuff I do with my wife and/or kids too. Used to do lots of other stuff too like scuba diving but you grow out of things and think fondly of them but have no desire to do them any more.

  19. Grisaia has a few sidestories (The Leisure of Grisaia, and the Idol Magical Girl series). Nice if you want more Grisaia, or just more ChiruChiru (she's my most favourite character ever) I've only played a small handful of VN's, so I can only recommend Kono Oozora ni Tsubasa wo Hirogete (If My Heart Had Wings) https://vndb.org/v9093, and Wagamama High Spec https://vndb.org/v17823. Both games are more light hearted then Grisaia in general. If My Heart Had Wings is pretty good. Some of the flying scenes are breathtaking, and the music is good. The plot is pretty good despite it being light hearted. The eroge scenes were pretty good too. Wagamama High Spec is even more light hearted. It's a parody on eroge and manga in general. And the eroge scenes are pretty high quality (this is the game to get if you really want some fap material). In fact, there's almost too much eroge here... I guess I'll post some of my VN wishlist too (VN's I'm considering playing in the future): * Steins Gate (probably the gold standard when it comes to gripping and engaging plots). * CLANNAD. I've heard nothing but great things about this. * Doki Doki Literature Club! (don't let this seemingly happy looking game fool you....). * Himawari https://vndb.org/v210. Apparently the remake is recommended (even though it doesn't have the +18 content). And apparently it's feels will hit you like a truck. * G-Senjou no Maou https://vndb.org/v211. I seriously can't wait for this crime thriller (I'm waiting on the unrated version with bated breath). * Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~. +18 patch unlocks 90% of the story too. Apparently this VN is pretty disturbing.... * D.S. -Dal Segno. https://vndb.org/v17742 Looks like a typical eroge romcom. * Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort https://vndb.org/v13046. Another eroge romcom. * Nekopara series. If you want cat girls, and lewd action xD

  20. While the thought makes certainly sense, Japanese VN developers seem to 'click' in a different way and they usually seem to ask "Why not this older game?" instead. When MangaGamer got involved with AliceSoft they had to start with Beat Blades Haruka from the Bronze Age despite wanting a newer (or any) Rance title, and when they had a short deal with Lilith, they just got some titles from the Stone Age (which might be a reason why their relationship ended soon). Fortunately, we didn't have to endure a title from the early Cretaceaus period - meaning pre 2000 - yet. So Japanese VN developers seem to be rather protective about their newer and better titles.

  21. https://twitter.com/JRyechuR/status/931710867665817600 - I enjoyed working on both titles @Nier, just a general note that it's infinitely easier to work on games that are developed by companies a publisher already has connections with than to try to work with a new company. I didn't look too hard, but it doesn't look like ANY of the companies you mentioned have any sort of relationship with any English-language companies, subsidiaries and all. Again, didn't look too hard though. Marigold has been around forever, Bishop/AiCherry have been around literally forever. So has Anim. I have no basis for this, but I'd think that, if you partner with a company for a specific title, the first thing they'll ask is "Why not this newer game?" Some of the titles you mention are a few years old, and would fit into that category. Also, I edit what I enjoy. Your "bottom of the barrel" is my "sweet spot." I'll kindly ask that you not trash other's tastes If you have particular suggestions, might I suggest sending [email protected] an e-mail? I hear that's the preferred way to put up suggestions...

  24. Got a new translator to translate Eris' chapter (Chapter 2), so progress is still on track. Also, I'm more than halfway through translating Fione's chapter (Chapter 1) Still going to take a while before the partial patch is released though (editing and QA still to come).

  26. Hi o/ I did a little analysis on changing trends in Visual Novels using the voting data on vndb if anyone is interested. I put up the first part of the series here: https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/159429107647/visual-novels-the-rise-of-a-medium This is part of a whole series of posts, with my next post looking at protags, and what kinds of traits different types of protags are associating with according to an analysis of the tag distribution on vndb. If you guys have any questions or comments about it, then I'd love to chat about it.

  27. Hoshizora no Memoria Wish Upon A Shooting Star Licensed by Sekai Project The story begins with the protagonist, Kogasaka You, moving back to his hometown, which he left behind several years ago. Upon arriving, he stumbles into an abandoned, sealed observatory, whereupon he encounters a mysterious girl who looks exactly like his childhood friend did years ago. She introduces herself as Mare, a shinigami who reaps nightmares. Meanwhile, back at school, You ends up joining the astronomy club, which is desperate need of new members. At night, he continues to visit Mare at the observatory, all the while trying to remember a certain someone's name. In 'Hoshizora no Memoria - Wish Upon A Shooting Star', the protagonist can fall in love with one of the seven heroines in the game. They are as follows: Minahoshi Asuho, Hisakaki Komomo, Hisakaki Kosame, Aoi Isuzu, Kogasaka Chinami, Ototsu Yume, and Mare S. Ephemeral. Ending Guide At the beginning of the game, only three of the seven heroines' routes are available. You will have to unlock the rest by playing through the first three's routes. The three available routes at the beginning of the game are Asuho, Komomo, and Isuzu's. After finishing Komomo's route, Kosame's will be unlocked. After finishing Isuzu's route, Chinami's will be unlocked. After finishing Asuho, Komomo, Kosame, Isuzu, and Chinami's routes, a secret heroine's route will be unlocked. Finally, you have to finish every heroines' routes before Mare's route can be unlocked. In order to fully immerse, enjoy, and understand the visual novel, it is the author's recommendation that you follow this order for clearing the routes: **Please note that the choices you see below are choices that the author made, you may be able to choose another choice and still arrive at the same route.** Route Walkthrough Asuho Minahoshi Komomo Hisakaki Kosame Hisakaki Aoi Isuzu Chinami Kogasaka Secret Heroine Mare S. Ephemeral LAST PHRASES (spoilers) Source: This walkthrough was prepared and submitted by Skeith. Edited the guide posted by FFTHEWINNER from GameFAQs.com.
