  1. Hi everyone . Thank you again for letting me post my blog entry here: This time I talk about the choice systems I have used in previous games, and the method I plan to adopt in The Last Birdling. Hope you like it! A few points I would be happy to hear thoughts on: 1) If a choice has no impact on the ending, is it better for the game to be linear? I played Akiba's Trip recently, and I imagine a lot of those choices had no effect on the ending, but some of them were hilarious so they never bothered me. See, I always had this theory. If it has "attitude", you can get away with almost anything. 2) Is it dishonest to boast about x number of endings if most of them are just instant gameovers? This doesn't offend me, but when it is being done all the time, it results in a "yeah let me guess" type of reaction. 3) For those who have played it, how awful did you think Mass Effect 3's ending was? In terms of player agency, maybe it is a travesty compared to older titles like Star Wars KOTOR. That said, back in the days, cutscenes were less expensive to produce (well I wouldn't know a thing about that). Is it really possible to produce multiple vastly different endings when you know most players will miss a bunch of that content? 4) More branches means longer game length. Does it also risk potential fluff routes and less editing time (spellcheck, skim read once and call it a job done)? 5) What is the point of multiple paths if there is a true ending in the end? Though I want to be edgy and say it's pointless, I actually like true endings. Not those everything is magically okay ones, but it's good to have something that tells you yes, this is indeed the end. 6) Does it bug you when choices seem nonsensical, and you are forced to look up guides? 7) I wonder why visual novels often have multiple paths, but it's much less common with traditional novels? Of course, we have the choose your own adventure books. Maybe having to turn to a particular page is just a pain. Thank you!

  2. If you can't read Japanese, Nurse Love Addiction is by far the best translated yuri game with plot that I have played. Really fantastic game, so I second that recommendation. If you can read Japanese, play Seisai no Resonance. Great story, good heroines and a really cool setting. By far the best yuri game out there that I know of. It does have a gameplay side to it, but that's not very dominant, and you'll be spending 97% of your time reading. Also, if you just grab a 100% save file, you can skip the combat scenes entierly, if you don't want the gameplay side of the game. I made a blog entry on the game a while ago, if you are interested in knowing a bit what the game is about before reading.

  3. Assuming you're looking for translated, there's not a lot of stuff out there in general for yuri, especially not meeting all of those three requirements, unfortunately. The best one by a long shot, of those I've played, is Kindred Spirits. It's much heavier on the romance side of things than on the plot side, but you needn't fear that it's anywhere remotely near a nukige (it's not a Sono Hana game...). The characters really make the game special: they're awesome. Flowers is also a decent choice, though it wasn't really what I was hoping for when I read it. Lastly, maybe take a look at Shadows of Pygmalion. It's an all ages chuunige with yuri elements, so it's really much more plot-focused, and has hardly any romance to it. I really enjoyed it (though not at the same level as I did Kindred spirits). All three of those are available on Steam, but the first and last are MangaGamer games while the second is JAST USA, so you can also pick them up from their respective online stores, which probably makes them a bit more money.

  5. Hello there Fuwa community, my name is Kratosirving, formally known as COMegamanexe. I give the former name for those who have run across the completely amateurish and personal TL/subtitling work I've done for the following Visual Novels: Fortissimo EXA//Akkord:Bsusvier (vndb: https://vndb.org/r12797) Fortissimo EXS//Akkord:Nachsten Phase (vndb: https://vndb.org/v7595) Kadenz Fermata//Akkord:Fortissimo (vndb: https://vndb.org/r40043) As the title of the thread states and/or alludes to, I never knew that this site existed until quite recently. As to why I've decided to make an account here now, it's mainly to have semi-expand the sphere of influence to others who may not have heard about the series or the no-so-great work I've done on it. I always did the work I did on Fortissimo just to spread awareness of a title and its subsequent versions and sequel that I've loved, and have now finished working on. Should a new version or new title in the series drop, I do not plan to work on it as I have done in the past. If there's any actual interest in a more professionally done or official TL, I would of course be happy but I'm definitely not expecting it considering how obscure the titles are - especially here now as we approach the middle of 2017. I don't know if I should really make a thread in the Translation Project section of the board considering the work I did isn't exactly a true translation - just subtitles - but I'll put the links to the playlists in my signature or something. For anyone interested in conversing on the subject or the work I've done with it, I'll always be happy to help out. Anyhow, this is a short introductory post made near midnight for me, so not really sure how to end this with my sleepy brain.

  7. Non-nukige translated yuri was indeed quite limited like Fred said. But if you want more recommendations, there's Hakuai (Nurse Love Addiction), Aoishiro, and Katahane. Hope those recommendations will be help.

  8. Confession: I spent half of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trying to figure out if that was Bill Murray or Jeff Bridges... it was Kurt Russel. Confession 2: I'm not very good with faces.

  9. Fitting for a music themed story, the music has been my favorite part too. Especially how it isn't just about playing music, but how music plays a big role in someones life. Music shapes who the characters are. The concerts and performances are the pinnacle of that. They are not just performances to show good music, but more about the feelings the music evokes in the performers and listeners. More often than not the performances are the conclusion of a story ark or a character development, where they bare their feelings, dissolve their doubts, anything through songs. Music ties everything together and it works so well. I'm pretty sure all of the major performance so far have managed to move me in some way, which is actually really cool and something I really didn't expect. Kanade's route especially was full of such powerful scenes. The autoplay in concert scenes is really nice, mostly because I read way too fast for what's intended. Being "forced" to listen through the whole song at least for me makes it easier to concentrate on it, and so enjoying it more. But more after I'm done with Riho's route.

  10. FYI, to give folks more time to finish Deardrops, we're intentionally not starting next month's reading club just yet, since it seems like a lot of people (including me!) still aren't done, and we want to give people a chance to finish and talk more. Now, that said, it seems like enough people have finished or at least made substantial progress that I figured I'd offer up a few discussion prompts to get the ball rolling, so without further ado (even if you reply, don't feel obligated to answer all of them unless you really want to): What's your favorite aspect of the game so far? Anything you don't like? Who's your side favorite character (i.e., outside of the heroines, Shouichi, and Gonda), and why? What do you think of the way the text forcibly goes to auto-mode in certain concert scenes? Does it make it more immersive? Less?

  12. Beware of Wandering Maids This is the fourth and final VN of the TIny Dungeon main series (see: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/blog/46/entry-727-tiny-dungeon-black-and-white/ http://forums.fuwanovel.net/blog/46/entry-747-tiny-dungeon-bless-of-dragon/ http://forums.fuwanovel.net/blog/46/entry-749-tiny-dungeon-birth-for-yours/ for the rest of the series so far). It also serves as a conclusion to the story that began with the first one (though Endless Dungeon is basically the actual ending of the series). This VN doesn't have a single-heroine focus (except maybe Kamishia). Rather, it is a story focused on the drama that has been building throughout the other VNs (the common elements), and it brings those to a conclusion in a pretty dramatic fashion. Unlike the other three VNs, this one isn't defined as much by its tragedy as its laughter (as seen in the pics above, it still has a lot of laughter though), but in exchange, it has the most plentiful (and fun) combat scenes in the entire series. All of the cast of main characters grow at least somewhat in the course of this VN, as they come to terms with their own problems (man, it is really hard not to spoil the other VNs here). However, again it is Hime who grows the most, this time as much psychologically as in terms of skill and ability. One thing that should be kept in mind as one of the pluses of Hime as a protagonist is that he is basically working from a disability throughout the series. In a world where every warrior uses magic in some form or another, he is the only who can't use magic. Instead, he has put himself through insane levels of painful training, as well as constantly looking for ways to make himself useful to his comrades. He has a very clear vision of his own abilities and those of the people around him in most cases, and he is an extremely compassionate (not just kind) individual. By the time you get to this VN, you'll probably be rooting for him anyway, but I thought I'd go ahead and give him a boost in yall's minds. The confrontations at the end of this VN are generally awesome, with some really good match-ups, though they don't have the impact of extreme chuunige action scenes like those in Dies Irae. I especially love it when Veil's mother is fighting... her spell chants tell you a lot about why she had so many nicknames in the war between the worlds ('the Jet Black Ogre of War' 'The Wind of Disaster' 'The Unending Nightmare' 'The Sorceress of Massacre' 'Fully Automatic Ground Meat Production Machine' 'Mobile Strategic Weapon'). The actual epilogue of the story is pretty short, which is probably why Endless Dungeon was made as such an extensive follow-up. Nonetheless, this VN is a pretty nice conclusion to the main series, having sufficient drama to satisfy most people who played/read the other VNs.
