After watching the first episode when it was airing I wasn't really interested, but now that the season is over and everyone lists the couple in it as the best ship this season, I'm going to watch it all. It's only half length episodes anyway.

I watched this (Senryuu Shoujo) and it ended up being quite sweet and enjoyable. Glad I went back to pick it up, especially in a season of so much shit.

    Spoiler

Shame there's no real shipping by the end.

I might give Senryuu Shoujo another shot, though, just because my friend likes the manga, and the main paring has decent chemistry.

It's extremely a spring game (lots, and lots, and lots of seasonal themes), so we kinda missed the ideal release window. Or, I could suggest we delay 9 months to release it in the appropriate season! What do you all think? :makina:

It'll be spring here in 2 months... Release now would be perfectly fine by me ;)

How the hell did Yui Horie not make this list?

I get that there are way too many godly seiyuu out there to fit on a single poll, but still. :kosame:

Absolutely. The goddess of voice acting. Her voice is so heart warming and has spanned a whole generation. From the only good  character in the original To Heart, to the classic Tsundere Naru Narusegawa in Love Hina, right through to everyone's favourite cat goddess Tsubasa Hanekawa.

Also Saori Hayami's voice is sexy AF, especially since oregairu and did this one amazing stretch in just one take in inou Battle

Okay. I finished Kokoro Connect, and I can see why these guys pick Inaban over Iori.

Overall, a pretty good show. Would give positive remarks about it should anyone ask me if it's good. While the start was really, really weird due to what I've mentioned before, it manages to better establish itself as its characters grow.

I absolutely loved everyone by the end. I still stand by the idea that maybe we're Heartseed's kin in our own context in relation to the show, and that the phenomena that push them to grow are ones that are conveniently placed for our entertainment. If anything, Heartseed succeeded in making it interesting, turning what would be normal conflicts in HS life into an overblown drama spurred on by increased stakes from supernatural events.

Not that it being an overblown drama is anything bad. That kind of drama is exactly what makes HS life (or maybe life in an educational institute in general) so colorful and interesting. At the peak of our emotional insecurities and personal instabilities, what determines our growth or recession is the people that stay with us through the ebbing tides. God, I seem to lose the ability to speak normally when it comes to expressing things that I'm sensitive to these days.

It was also good seeing the irresponsible claims Taichi made in Hito Random coming back to bite him in later arcs. Sometimes, being overly kind really hurts people, and Taichi's way of saving Iori was a perfect example of that. I'm glad he eventually realized how wrong the things he did were though. Props to him for that.

Inaban was hella cute. I love this lovestruck Dereban. Though, I still end up liking Iori better. I find it inevitable to like someone better after you see their vulnerabilities and how they succeed in dealing with them. Although hella weak from all the things she's been going through, she eventually reclaims herself through the help of her friends. I thought that was really beautiful. I hope Iori can find happiness in the next arcs of the series which, to my own regret, are arcs I won't be experiencing any time soon. Best girl doesn't deserve that kind of suffering.

    Season 2 when?

Wonder what I'll pick up next, hmmmm.

Did you watch the kokoro connect OVAs? There is no need for a season 2 because they complete the series. You should have watched 17 episodes in total.

  6. There's plenty of stuff I dropped before even starting when I saw tags I didn't like or got halfway through the synopsis and realised it was clearly not for me, but the one that I did start playing and stopped within about a minute was Casual Romance Club which had this horrible multi window interface to a dating sim and was the first (and hopefully last) game where the Japanese VAs also voiced their lines optionally in Engrish so bad it was facedeskworthy.  I think the Engrish was more of a turn off than the interface even though you could leave it in Japanese. I didn't even remember this but looking at the screenshot below it looks like all the names were localised into oblivion as well.

Done with Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches and I kind of loved this show, although I've seen from other people's reviews that it might not be "objectively" this great, but simply fits directly into my preferences. It has those light ecchi/harem elements, but immidiately establishes who the main heroine is and develops really satisfying, conclusive romance - Urara grows into a great character and the last few episodes with Yamada fighting to reconnect with her are genuinely touching. On the fun side, the body swapping gimmick comes with awesome performances by the voice actors, with main ones pretty much playing a few different characters on a regular basis.

Plot wise, it's not that original (it's kind of Monogatari-light, with the protagonist going around solving problems of the titular witches, basically saving them from themselves) and some of the subplots are rather forgettable, but it's still very fun and the main cast is great, Yamada himself combining being a bit of a dumbass and having a reputation of a delinquent with being genuinely good person – there's some great chemistry between him and all the other major characters. In the end, I give it an extremely biased 9/10 (I think it'll be an 8 or very solid 7 if you don't buy into its formula as much as I did). Will definitely try to give it a rewatch with my gf, I hope she don't hate it. :3

I really enjoyed it and gave it an 8/10 myself. Very satisfying show, but there's no way I would watch it with my wife. Too ecchi and haremy if I recall correctly.

Right, this. I wanted to ask, is this show just despair misery suffering or not quite? I got that impression from hearing people talk about it, which is why I haven't watched it despite really appreciating the art style, but a friend said otherwise the other day.

Is it one of those where every time things seem to be looking better it just goes DESPAIR!!1! ? I can't handle that. I've given up on Code Geass and Fullmetal Alchemist over that sort of thing. Please reply in a spoiler tag.

(Which is admittedly ironic considering I love Danganronpa but whatever. If it's funny despair it's ok.)

No, it is brutally hard to watch. If you could not watch fullmetal alchemist then I suggest you skip made in abyss. It's overall got a positive outlook but the crossroads along the way are disturbing on a grand scale. I cried by eyes out on it.

I watched the SAO movie, Ordinal Scale. Yeah I know, pretty late to the party.

I'll say that I appreciate that they tried to give it a similar vibe to what SAO was at the begining (that is, Aincrad arc). It felt quite nostalgic.

Unfortunately the story was as non sensical as it gets, and I personally can't really get into the action like that. The OST and great animation made it at least enternaining enough so I wasn't bored either. Overall, a good movie to turn your brain off and kill 2 hours of your lifetime.

I watched it for the Asuna nipple.

  10. I've been playing VNs for 20 years now and am the oldest active member on the forum. Most people consider my tastes boring despite that since I generally stick to moege and charage, and fairly vanilla in my taste spectrum for H content as well. I have this in my fan translator registration post:

    7) Conditions* (any additional conditions, under which you will or won't work): Lots of conditions, see below.

Absolutely no rape, torture, humiliation, disgrace, loli, dark themes, violence. Don't like utsuge nor excessive drama either.

Note the exclusion of a lot of thematic material which the OP found adversely affected him. I've simply learnt to avoid any games with them in them, avoided discussing such games on the forum, avoided discussing the thematic material on the forum, and politely refused to translate anything with those in them.  If I were to allow my distaste of those to alter my ability to enjoy playing VNs or discussing the aspects I do enjoy about VNs on this forum and elsewhere, I would be missing out on something I derive great pleasure from. I do, however, have great objection to most forms of censorship which is why I'm happy to simply tolerate its existence but don't feel obliged to debate the issues. I also do not believe the existence of such thematic material has changed my value system either, but I was not 15 when I started playing VNs, so I cannot say outright that it would not have affected me so at the time. Nonetheless, I think you're doing yourself a disservice -- if it's a medium and community you otherwise enjoy -- to break off completely. You've developed your own value system and now it's time to apply it without feeling guilt or remorse about it, but to work with the aspects you still enjoy. If your love of the art form has disappeared entirely, then that's a totally different issue, but that doesn't seem to be the issue so much as guilt from thematic material that is often associated with the art form. If you feel you are unable to dissociate the two then that's your decision.

    Absolutely.

I always work closely with the editors on my projects, and have never been in a situation where that wasn't possible. Editors should always be able to ask the translator for their opinion on something / ask for further explanations of translations should they need it, and translators should always read the editor's edits in case there is something they feel should be handled differently. (And in these cases, the editor and translator will often discuss how to handle it together, like Fred pointed out.)

So, this is very much not the case, at least in my experience:

I'd go beyond that and say sometimes the translator even asks the editors for ideas while they're translating on how to tackle some issues where there is no good translation for a word, name, pun, meme, etc.

Erm... Why? The metric system is used in most countries of the world. The only notable country using the imperial system is the US.

I honestly hope that I just misunderstood your meaning with that sentence, otherwise I'm just straight up confused with this reasoning.

You say that you would love to translate in English instead of American, but that's not up to your choice. But at the same time you flatly refuse to change the imperial system that is the one used (mostly) only in America? Keeping the metric system even don't give the trouble of converting the values to the translators...

    ...Why? Seriously, why?

Again, sorry if I got things mixed and I really hope that I did so!

I flatly refuse to CHANGE TO IMPERIAL is what I mean. Haha.
