  1. So, in some sort of Halloween event, MangaGamer announced three new titles. Don't remember them ever announcing stuff on that occasion, but considering Covid 19 killed most cons this year, I guess that's the fallback. First is a double package consisting of Wanting Wings: Her and Her One Month Romance and its sequel Faraway Feathers: Her and Her Valentine’s Romance from BaseSon. Yeah, that's certainly what everyone wanted from BaseSon. Second is Funbag Fantasy 3if from Waffle. It's interesting that they went straight for the extended if-version this time, but I certainly won't complain since it means that we'll get the new heroine Athena already, who is a real looker. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Waffle fans will be happy with this. And last but least there's How to Live a Healthy Hentai Lifestyle! from Clock Up. (NSFW) This seems to be a 'normal' nukige for a change instead of a splatter festival. No idea if that's the title Clock Up fans wanted to see translated. Though I have to say that Hamashima Shigeo's art was better than this one. Nevertheless, I don't touch Clock Up titles, so I don't really care.

  2. Oops, yes, you're right! It's the same director though ^^ As for the mystery, the writer draws inspiration from the works of Japanese mystery/horror writers such as Edogawa Ranpo and Seishi Yokomizo, whose work I am personally a fan of. I think the game could have done with being a bit longer to flesh out some of the ideas in the story, but if you're into these genres I think you'll enjoy it!

  3. For me, Sakura no Kisetsu is a classic. However, it's a bit unapproachable now, with old engine and awkward adventure-gameplay system - which is much more annoying than, say, YU-NO. As I wrote recently in recommendations thread: Well, sometimes I do things on a whim, and shortly after writing the above, I decided to give it a try Actually it's quite fun for now - writing things in Ren'py is almost like directing your own puppet-show . The goal is to rewrite Sakura no Kisetsu into standard VN structure with branching choices system - getting rid of the "look/think/talk with everything to trigger next scene" system. I do this by arranging texts from various "think" "look" and "talk" sections into the order that gives the best flow (and inserting small connecting bits in between where absolutely neccessary). I also plan to re-edit it or partially retranslate the lines that annoy me too much As I see, Brazilian Portugese translation uses similar approach, but they used assets (graphics and music) from the remake, which I'm not too fond of - they are very blurry, while the pixels from dithering are still very visible, so it's like the worst of both worlds . I'm working with assets from PC98 and DOS versions. I also plan to have switchable soundtrack, with all three versions available: PC98 - original FM soundtrack, GS - PC98 MIDI music replayed with SoundCanvas soundfont and AdLib - PC DOS version FM soundtrack. While browsing graphic files extracted from both versions I was surprised. I expected Japanese PC98 version to have mosaics (and if such were the case, planned to have mosaics on/off switch in the options), however, the version that is floating around the net is uncensored. Probably somebody hacked files with HCGs from English PC version into it? Graphics and scripts formats are identical between two versions, only music files are different because of different sound hardware. I looked at files more closely and yes, it seems that some CG files were replaced - while all graphic files from PC98 have 1996-04 dates, HCGs have 1999-10. For now I have ported first two scenes - talk with parents in Shuuji's home and first meeting with Reiko on the way to school - complete with music and sprites with facial animations, just like in the original Some preliminary screenshots coming in ~12 hours. Of course for now it is all pretty basic - just full-screen background and standard ren'py textbox. I'm still not sure whether to go with that approach, or try something more like in the original, with borders etc, and the actual scenes taking just small portion of the screen? Also, I'm still not sure how much smoothing (if any) should I use while converting backgrounds and sprites. But we can discuss that when there are screenshots. *I'm not sure in which subforum should I place it. It's clearly not "Original Visual Novel", it's also not exactly "Translation Project" (although probably some translating will be involved). Well, I hope our mods will help me by moving it into most suited section.

  4. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is getting an english release! https://twitter.com/muvluvseries/status/1319927555806277632 Âge is holding an online event right now and this announcement is part of the event. You can watch the event here: As the title says the event is in Japanese but on this discord you can find an English interpretation. Discord link: http:// https://discord.gg/E8UApXt Kimi ga Nozomu Eien has been the most requested Age title in the last survey but I the runner ups are also interesting: The event is still ongoing so we can expect some more Muv-Luv news like news about the anime adaptation or maybe something to the Alternative sequel Muv-Luv Integrate.

    Hello there!

Hi, I'm Jacob from Rock A Role Games. I got into visual novels about six years ago, and last year me and my wife started our own game dev studio to create visual novels ourselves. We both have a burning passion for story-telling, and having gotten to spend the last year developing a game has been amazing. I've been meaning to try and get into the community a bit more, but game dev has just taken too much time. Now we have finally launched our first Kickstarter, however, and though marketing is still a full-time job, I hope to have time to engage with the community a bit more. Of course, I would also welcome any and all thoughts you all might have about the game we've made. Since this is our first game, critique - both positive and negative - is invaluable. If you would take the time to check our game out, I would be ever so grateful. We're on Kickstarter now, and our demo is free on Itch.io. Looking forward to getting to know you all better, Jacob

  9. I once received a credit card deal for 10% cash back on any Dunkin' Donuts purchase, with the fine text stipulating that the maximum cash back amount was $30. This implies that they were expecting at least one person to purchase $300 of Dunkin' Donuts in one order.

  10. I'll see your 100. With sincere respect to those involved - don't wish to insult with paltry "bribes"; so, even if it's later... I'm in.

  11. It's basic zlib compression with a little Kirikiri header. Here's a very simple Python script that'll work with the 1 file you gave: https://pastebin.com/s1w1kY3p

  13. You say Oshirabu, but isn't it developed by its parent/sister company, who produced Amrilato? Just the fact it was written by the same author of Flowers is already a must-buy for me. Thank you for your work here

  14. Hm, it's tagged as Mystery 3.0. That's certainly interesting, especially considering it's from the same writer like Flowers. The art style reminds me more of Fatal Twelve though. A bit worried about the ratings though - nowhere near either of those.

  15. Hey all, thanks for the replies and encouragement! I realize that if one only uses this forum as their information source, the progress on this will probably have seemed rather scarce And I admit, I haven't updated the thread at all to create any additional hype or expectations, but that's kind of been on purpose - I'm the sort of the person to typically walk the walk before talking about it. That way I can't let anyone down, heh. Actually nothing in particular prodded me to post this update either, and I don't have a grand announcement to make right now, I just thought I'd pop in to say hi while coming to the forum to answer a few PMs. So, how's it going? Well I'm not dead and the project certainly isn't either, all in all it has chugged along very well. I've been pretty active on a few big VN Discords and received a ton of help from a ton of absolutely awesome people, but for the past month or two I've unfortunately been very tied up in some other responsibilities. Such is life! However, I'm trying my darndest to get back to the Manakashi project right about now, so don't worry. I will, also, actually create a new teaser video of some sort soon to show off the quality and progress we're working with, as well as how I solved certain technical challenges. I don't like talking line counts - and actually I don't keep or know exact line counts, either - but while there's a whole ton still to translate, I can at least say that I am rather proud of the quality of what has been done so far. So anyway, I guess all I wanna say to you lovely people is that if you want to see this project happen, please don't hesitate to keep letting me know Reply to this thread, talk to me on Discord (yumi#0163), PM me on Fuwanovel, whatever - It does help me gauge interest and thus my own time allocation to the project, and actually means more to me than I'd like to admit. I might've started the project for entirely selfish reasons, but due to the sheer volume of material alone it's not going to end that way. So, in addition to the previous paragraph, I guess I'd like to put out a lazy call for reinforcements. Translation (and the editing that follows) is the job I'm most picky about, but if you happen to be a proficient translator/writer and would want to help with this project, don't hesitate to get in touch. I also periodically need a few trusted people to QA/test the project while it is in progress. If you'd like to do that and think you'd be good at it, feel free to DM me on Discord, preferably. Additionally we will need a real TLC down the line, but that's actually not very critical right now. So yeah, alright, that's the Manakashi project right now! Talk to you again later Maybe I should ask for a developer role on the forums to create one of those dev diaries...

  16. I personally think that VNs right now are in a sense stuck in a cursed loop. VNs as a medium just really lack variety and as a result appeal to a small number of people. Even most all-ages titles follow the same story structure: even in non-adult titles a male protagonist always has to be surrounded by a lot of female love interests; it almost always has to take place in high-school; even in plot-focused stories there are a lot of slice-of-life scenes, which aren't even well written, and mostly just serve as a way to stall the story for some time rather than developing the characters; finally, the personalities of the protagonist, the heroines and even the side characters typically just follow certain well-known archetypes. So, if you just happen not to enjoy some of these titles and just want to find something more unique, you're much better off watching some anime or reading a manga. Otome games are a bit different, but, from my limited experience with them, they seem to have a bag of different, though slightly similar, problems. There are indeed some unique and experimental VNs that do things differently, but most of these are doujin titles and don't get that much exposure. Most of them aren't even that good, since good authors are likely to join some company at some point and start making a lot more standard VNs, or leave the medium altogether. Also, we, the current VN fans, enjoy these tropes to at lest to some extend, and a lot of us actually prefer them. As a result, in a short run it's not a very good strategy for companies to experiment with story structures, since they don't know if the fans would like these changes, and they just stick to the strategy that worked thus far. And VNs are also expensive to make, so they don't allow for much flexibility. Nowadays, manga and light novel authors don't even have to make any initial investment at all, since they just can start posting their stories online and see how people react to them, or even completely stick to episodic online distribution. In case of VNs, even a single financially unsuccessful product can make a whole company go bankrupt. I personally think that if VNs somehow let this loop, there's a good chance that they would start appeal to a bigger number of people. They probably wouldn't be the same people as the current VN fans. Will they ever do that? I doubt it, but I don't know. EVNs might actually lead to something interesting at some point, who knows?

  17. Reading requires effort, getting it requires effort, etc. and in the end, there's also that feeling that you don't know whether it will be worth reading for you or not. The big time investment in them do make me reconsider what to read.
