Seeing as I've finished To Heart 2, well, the routes I intend to finish, that is, I wanted to ask a pair of questions that've been bugging me.

1 - Is there a case to be made for calling Konomi the canon heroine? Considering her prominence in the artwork (she features near the center rather often), her prominence in the OP (which focuses more on her than any other character, and shows her both first and last) and the comments about how hers (and Tamaki's) can be considered something of a common route, it seems like it wouldn't be such a far-fetched idea. Plus tbh she's obviously a sucrose-based lifeform. I really liked her haha.

    2 -

How come they did the thingy with Ruuko and the twins where they gave each something like half a route? I don't quite get that and it seems strange to have done so while giving most other heroines a full route - even Kusakabe.

    1. Yes? Not only that but her and Tamaki both reappear in the sequel To Heart 2 Another Days (though with a really crap route by comparison.)

    2.

    Spoiler

I'm not sure what you mean by half a route? Not only did they each have as much unique text as the other heroines, but the twins' route actually had the most text of any route. Kusakabe had the only half length route - her text was literally half that of every other heroine. Perhaps you read them so entranced you didn't even notice the time passing :P

How is this anime? I've been meaning to watch it for a while but I don't know if I'd like it.

I think @Plk_Lesiak is pretty close to the mark. It has very grand ambitions and the original material obviously was a lot more fleshed out than the anime was. The anime has some very shaky moments, including some bad production even, and feels rushed despite having 24 episodes - I think there's enough material there for 4 seasons, not just 2. Nonetheless when it hits its mark it is very touching and satisfying, with some gruesome moments and is relentless in its treatment of characters, but satisfies the criteria for an ultimately satisfying ending. I gave it a 7/10, good overall and certainly don't feel I wasted my time... but then I watch an awful lot of anime. It's a bit like sousei no onmyoji, flawed but satisfying.

From what I saw, apparently the MC was have different personality from between each branch, so I guess it'll be interesting to look forward here. Good luck to both of the translator here.

Not sure where you got that from but his personality doesn't change at all between the branches or routes. Different aspects of his personality are emphasised depending on the heroine but not the MC's personality itself.

The VN is separated into a main school route and a branch school route, each written by different authors.

This is also how we're dividing up the translation work. I'm working on the main school group and @Hasa is working on the branch school group which are similar amounts of text. Additionally the style between each group is different thanks to the two different writers so it makes sense to have two different translators who also will have different styles. Assuming we both translate our respective sections to completion, there will be consistency within each subsection.

  5. Sugar+Spice https://vndb.org/v421 (1 and 2) has a points based system with many many scenes to choose from, and many mandatory scenes that then progress the story one month. Playing the game multiple times you can end up with almost a completely different story, though there are many common scenes once you start romancing one girl (but you're not obliged to play the scenes again). In addition, there is a confession system where after you've amassed enough goodwill with a heroine, you can choose to try confessing to her - this doesn't always work for some routes where one may refuse to acknowledge you via confession. Also  after having unlocked scenes, if you come back to those scenes on a second playthrough, they may run differently depending on the points you reach the scene with. Finally you can go to every particular scene you want at any time to replay it via the menu after having unlocked it, and there are hundreds. That's the most fun I've had in a moege anyway.

None of these will be translated, but the much newer game from the same producers, Watashi ga Suki nara "Suki" tte Itte! is actually currently undergoing localisation. Not sure how many things it adopts from the earlier games or if it's any good but it's much newer and the art looks nice.

While Ranma is a classic, Rumiko Takahashi's best work was always Maison Ikkoku (heartwarming romance ahoy) :)

Agreed, that I DID watch through (and have even reviewed it somewhere here on fuwa) and did NOT regret, and although it was slow, very slow, it had probably the reference ending for how to make an ultimately happy conclusion.

  7. I finished watching Ranma ½. Not even sure why I did in the end, but it started out because it is a classic comedy still revered today, and when I first started watching it I found myself actually laughing at it. Well it tired quickly and for whatever reason I kept watching till I watched all 161 episodes. If anyone else has this much spare time on their hands and is considering it, all I can say is: don't do it. It was a good way to put me to sleep at the end of the night when I was still buzzing and needed something that would make me want to go to bed. The slapstick gets tired very quickly, the same plots get rehashed a dozen times over, and there is virtually no forward progress in the story. About its only redeeming feature was showing nipples before they were considered too raunchy for even ecchi shows on TV, though there's nothing titillating (heh) about how they're presented here :P

  8. I gave up on Sakura clear card about halfway through the series because, well, frankly it was boring. Nonetheless with episode 22 I decided to grab just the last episode to see what happened and... what a stinker. That was such a shit ending I'm glad I didn't persist. About the only good thing about the entire series was Sakura reuniting with Xiaoling in the first episode (which for simplicity has become Shaoran everywhere now which also annoys me.)

Episode 8 of FMP: Invisible Victory was good enough, the action was pretty good and it does look like the plot's going to move forward. Still

kinda feels like they really wasted some interesting potential by just killing off Nami like that, especially since that makes that bit of foreshadowing they did in the previous episode as to whether or not she was a Whispered or just a really talented mechanic pointless

From what I gather with FMP it's being quite true to the light novels, though I haven't read them, but

    Spoiler

I agree it is a shame they killed Nami off so easily after introducing her character at such length. It seemed rushed to me and for some reason didn't have the emotional impact it should have had on me. I guess it's just a plot device to make Sousuke go nuts.

Episode 10 of Hinamatsuri was fine, but something about the first half just felt like a little too much was packed in there on Hitomi's end. Anzu's half was better, especially in pacing, even if it was a bit predictable.

A lot of the Hitomi material is hit and miss. It's quite cringeworthy which sometimes works and unfortunately sometimes doesn't.

Hm, i usually here that people that have read Grisaia VN despise it's anime adaptation. But i guess it's first time when someone mentions it not reading the VN.

Just shows how bad it can be. I've never played Dies Irae yet I tried watching the anime and was astounded at how bad it was standalone and gave up after 1? 1.5 episodes? Can't remember, it was that forgettable.

Classic anime from the golden era: Check

    Great romance: Check

    Great female lead: Check

    Absolutely Hilarious: Check

    Kansai dialect: Check

Reliving great places in Japan I've been to: Check

    Low on tropes: Check

    Zero Ecchi: Check

    Nothing in poor taste: Check

    Family friendly: Check

It stuns me that I can find rewatching something like this over and over so goddamn funny, yet breeze through maybe 100 other alleged comedy animes that barely raise a smirk out of me. Slapstick is so easy to screw up and yet no matter how old this anime is, I still love it every time. The heroine seriously makes the show. The hero is not quite as legendary but it still works. The romance is really done so differently. The only other similar show in the decade following it that I know of is My Love Story. Great stuff.

btw is toji no miko worth watching, i never tried starting it because I thought it was another ''gacha like'' anime like ange vierge or kantai collection, but if the characters are decent i might check it out.

Definitely not. I tried, I really did, but gave up by ep17. Ange vierge was much more fun.

Do you know how it ends? There are 26 (!!) volumes + 3 spin-offs, according to wiki. And i heard that all these volumes are all about the same stuff we see in anime, so i can't imagine how it could be fun to read all of it... Dunno just how long do they plan on doing seasons...

I know enough to know how it ends, or at least how the relationships end up.

You know, maybe... But, honestly, that's the first time it actually caught my eye so obviously. I see no progress throughout the series at all. Boobs may be, but starting from S3 it's just mostly plain irritating than fun.

To be honest, I think I'm only watching for 2 things right now: Boobs, and for the 2 of them to finally get together ffs. The lacklustre ending to the last series where they wimped out and did the status-quo virgin harem forever type ending was too much for me since I know that's not how the story is supposed to end.

I usually don't watch airing anime, cuz don't wanna wait for the next episodes, especially if i like the show very much. Just imagining i have to wait for new episode of "Boku no Hero"... Especially when i know they're gonna be awesome, considering the manga... No, just no, i have plenty of shows to watch as it is. But i can make one exception to this rule, and i've done it now - started to watch "High School DxD Hero", because know for certain that won't especially like the show, so no "GIVE ME THE NEXT EPISODE RIGHT NOW!" here. Just watch for completion, as finished all 3 seasons beforehand. So finished 6 episodes. And like i thought it's mostly trash, really. Many people would disagree, considering the fact that it is 4th season, so there is demand for it, but... No. It's kinda difficult now to think that i actually like S1 very much, i consider it very good. But starting from S2 and especially S3 it's a straight road to trash can... Moreover, it's

    the same stuff:

1). Strong enemy -> BOOST! -> killed him

2). Stronger enemy -> DOUBLE BOOST!! -> killed him

3). Way more stronger enemy, super strong one -> TRIPLE MEGA BOOST!!! -> killed him

4). Ultra mega super strong enemy -> SUPER MEGA BOOST!!! EXTREME VERSION! -> killed him

over and over and over again. Yeah, very interesting...

You just described the formula for every action shounen anime ever. At least DXD also has boobs.

I started watching Darling in the FranXX out of curiosity for all the commotion this anime stired (though I'm late af to the party).

So, to summarize, Evangelion was like "hey, you know what would be cool and really hot? Teenage girls fighting inside of giant robots wearing extra tight suits". Then Muv Luv came along and made them transparent. The next logical step is obviously to replicate kamasutra positions. Bravo

    Works for me.
