What Anime are you watching now?

I just finished Magi , and I would recommend this anime because its really awesome and worth the watch. Its action comedy with some elements of shounen, and its overall great, its really hard to find something packed with action that can still make you laugh without some cliche plot. The shounen isn't too strong, so there is no stupid crap like I will save everyone with the power of love and friendship, but you can still catch the idea that its there because if MC was serious, the plot would be really different.

Gonna watch overlord next, there is a S2 for Magi, but I'm gonna put that away for later since I'm not in the mood for another 25 episode, i'll stick with something shorter.

Just watched the Love Live movie.

It was alright, although I feel like I might have hyped it too much back when it was announced, because in all honesty I didn't feel like the movie did anything that the main series didn't do. That's not necessarly a bad thing but it just felt like a somewhat needless extension to the franchise.

There were plenty of scenes in it I enjoyed, but the overarching plot wasn't particularly interesting in comparison to the previous seasons where they strived to gain something.

Nonetheless, closure is closure, and I'm glad this series finished things off properly unlike a lot of other idol shows do. The ending was definitely the best part of the movie and really conveyed the message that this is it and that's okay.... who am I kidding they already made Love Live! Sunshine, this series is basically a money making machine.

I watched a lot of shows since I was gone, but the most recent one that I'd like to mention is Little Witch Academia.

That show was really good. I liked it a lot. Dunno how it started and stuff, but I do hope it gets more movies and stuff. I really liked that. The art's pretty nice too.

Now it's time to catch up with the current shows, starting with Gakusen Toshi Asterisk. Julis is really cute. I'm currently at Episode 5.

I thoroughly enjoyed Magi as well, when I watched it; solid story, characters, pacing, art - it nails the essentials. Although for some reason I, also, have not made time to watch season 2 of it... but someday, I certainly will.

I finally finished Accel World over the weekend. I mostly feel relieved to be done with it; it wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't especially good either. I watched it just because a close friend (actually the only fellow otaku I regularly talk to in real life) recommended it to me; I won't do the same to you. Accel World is a solid Don't Watch. It's got a mess of a plot, very few likeable characters (and mostly simply not believable ones, which if you're familiar with my [low] standards means that they are really not at all believable), and a really arbitrary motivating backstory. While the "accelerated world" is kind of interesting at times, the rules always feel way too arbitrary; the writer just invents whatever is convenient at the time and then explains it away. Lazy. If you're going to invent some big magic-like system, it's way more interesting to impose more constraints up-front, and then make those constraints work for you; Accel World mostly uses the acceleration powers and burst link powers as a massively boring deus ex machina. But really, the worst is the characters. The second season villain is the worst cackling crazy inexplicably evil villain I've seen in a long, long time. Once again: lazy.

After wrapping that up, I needed something good, so I picked up Bunny Drop. Holy shit is it good so far. It completely hooked me in one episode (one episode to first tears shed; new record), and I had to really restrain myself to stop after two episodes (I'm trying to savor it).

Don't read the Manga for Bunny Drop. Anime is god tier but the Manga though... Just take my word for it please.

Just look into Bokutachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari's lyrics. Many feels were had when I finally looked into it. I'm basically a Love Live fan for life. Umi and Riko <3

The bolded is the reason Accel World is the worst anime I've experienced in my 1 year anime career thus far, seriously that character was built to make me rage, and no, the "if you hate a villain, they are doing their job" does not apply!!!

Couldn't agree more. This one is a case of "If you hate the villain, it's because the writers are actually inhuman robots who were once explained the idea of a villain, but didn't really get it, and thus wrote about an inhuman robot like themselves". Kind of flamebait, but nonetheless how I actually feel: it's actually even worse than the Shuffle! anime in this regard.

Anyway, I actually came back to this thread to rave about Bunny Drop, not to rage about Accel World: I just finished up through episode 5 of Bunny Drop and got rekt again. I'm pretty sure that I, Fred the Barber, precisely, am the target market for this anime. I want to live main character's life, warts, thorns, and all. I mean, I'm pretty much living the negative parts of it already (although I, like him, perceive them as enjoyable and satisfying at the moment); can I have the amazing, life-changingly wonderful parts as well? Please? For the love of kami-sama, somebody put me into a situation where I'm forced to adopt a surprisingly mature, loveable 6-year-old; right now, I feel like there's nothing out there that could make me happier.

Finished watching Acchi Kocchi today, and I thought it was almost perfect. Almost, and it's largely just a matter of it not ending in quite the way I'd have wanted (though it wasn't bad by any means). Still need to watch the OVA and hopefully that'll tie it all up into one incredible bundle, but regardless, I just felt all fuzzy and warm throughout its running time. Tsumiki Miniwa is beyond adorable as well. Definitely going to try and get hold of the manga.

Gonna finish Hidamari Sketch next I think, and then I might try something with a bit more substance. Or Kiniro Mosaic.

I just finished two shows:

- Bunny Drop was borderline life-changing. Every episode brought little tears of happiness to my eyes, and as I was watching the closing moments of the last episode (not realizing it was the last episode), I thought to myself, "it could end right now and I would be perfectly happy with that." And then, lo and behold, it did. I can't deny I felt a stab of disappointment, but I know there's no way I could be happier with the show. It didn't come to some grand close, or wrap everything up in a neat little bow; some rare shows pull that off, and my hat goes off to them. In the case of Bunny Drop, in fact, there were many important loose ends left behind; but it was nonetheless just right. The most important things had been well and truly settled, and I can imagine the future for myself if I want to carry through on the promises the show left behind.

- Yona of the Dawn was also, frankly, amazing. I dearly hope this show gets picked up for another season; I really respect that they managed to gradually build a large and interesting cast while still telling engaging stories along the way, and I'd like to see them get another season to really capitalize on that cast they built up. I also absolutely love the villain - 10/10, best villain ever. I'm still not even sure if he is a villain. This show, at times, reminds me a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender (which is high praise from me, by the way). I realize it comes from a shoujo manga, but it has a lot of the hallmarks and charm of a typical shounen (many of which are also in Avatar), while also stepping things up a notch in many areas vs. a typical shounen: it's a classic bildungsroman, both literally and figuratively, anchored by a loveable but initially weak person who we watch become stronger, mentally and physically; it surrounds that person with reliable, likeable friends with interesting backstories; but it also gives off a much stronger sense of purpose and a more consistent direction, right from the start, than any shounen anime I've ever seen; and it occasionally shows off a pretty delightful romance (I can't get enough of love polygons, and this show's love triangle is excellent). I wouldn't be surprised if the love story in particular never goes anywhere (except maybe if the show gets picked up strongly enough to go all the way to completion, and we get some nice resolution in a final episode), but otherwise the show hits on all those cylinders and makes real progress pretty regularly. Above all, I love Yona. I can't even handle how awesome she is. As soon as you start to forget how much she can accomplish on the strength of her will alone, she steps up again in some impossible situation and proves, once again, why she's the main character. I totally get why all these dudes are following her around like lapdogs; I'd be right there with them.

It upsets me to see Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso so beloved by so many people, because one of the messages the show conveys to its audience is insensitive and downright offensive.

Comments #10, 11, 12, and 14 summarize my point well (though they're mostly repeating information):

So I've finished inu x boku SS. Loved the ending. The show is goofy as all hell, but the ending wraps up the show on a serious and really nice note, which was wonderful. Seriously hilarious and awesome show.

Gonna go ahead and watch black bullet and then Attack on titan. Those two have been on my watch list for too long. Ugh ... but I do kinda want more slice of life comedy and less shounen action .... :amane: Oh well. I'll do it so people will stop annoying me with the same question "Have you watched attack on titan yet?!"

I'm so close to punching them in the face each time they do it :pyaa: This show better be worth it.

I glanced over the thread, since a lot of repetitive information was being thrown around and there were a lot of "10/10 just because" and "1/10 why was this liked" posts littered throughout the thread.

http://www.anime-evo.net/2014/11/07/in-defence-of-shigatsu-wa-kimi-no-uso/

As stated in that piece "The fact of the matter is that Shigatsu is series that’s ridden with faults and issues, and your enjoyment and mileage of the show will depend on how glaring those issues are to you."

None of the issues he's brought up mattered that much to me.
Slap stick comedy? A little jarring at times but doesn't hurt the overall series' point at all. "Bullying"? Mostly light hearted jabbing between friends, emphasis on mostly. Middle Schoolers thinking at a higher level than their age? Suspension of disbelief. The fact is that different people obviously led different lives in middle school. You may think its crazy that they're even having these kinds of thoughts but I don't. Kaori being less than perfect? Go figure Kousei is blinded by love, and a character has flaws and imperfections despite being idolized as an ideal...

In other news, I finally got around to watching Monster Musume like I've been meaning to, and recently got back into Umaru after a random hiatus. Monmusu was the light hearted piece I needed after Owarimonogatari.

It's a very rare occurrence that I specifically try to keep up with an anime. I've been watching Utawata... Utawarata... I've been watching Utty Wutty and have been enjoying it quite a lot.

Utawarerumono, fag. :T

Also finished Parasyte a few days ago. It was good.

I love the point that it was trying to make, namely the being natural of everything that's being happening and the benefits that it gives to the environment. It's like at the end, the show was trying to make us see what Hirokawa saw, making him help the parasites out in fitting in with human society. Of course, every benefit that the world can possibly get from the natural predators of humans is overruled by the fact that humans being killed is wrong in the eyes of human society, and therefore is wrong in all aspects. The clash of humanism (I'm using it in a context where humans are given importance) against preserving the natural balance in the ecosystem is very evident in the show, which I really liked. In the end, humans still triumphed. Now humans will have to solve the problem in an alternative way which doesn't involve slowly whittling our numbers to lessen the damage on the world.

Also started on Comet Lucifer. I'm at Episode 7.

Nothing's making sense, but at least Felia's a qt.

I also love Kuon's clothes. RIP if I got her name wrong.

And so airs the last episode of Working.

Perfection isn't enough to describe it, it was literal porn for anyone who's watched the series from the beginning.

This show is a prime example of how you handle slice of life, comedy and romance and I avidly recommend anyone to watch it.

Oh my god, I'm ashamed that I didn't realized it aired until I saw your post just now. Time to orgasm over this ending.
