This is purely curiosity but I've noticed so many people here playing nukige and eroge or like almost every conversation here mentioned nukige and eroge. Then again, I am still new and haven't explored fuwanovel more. So, I wonder if there are any people like me who don't play nukige or eroge? What kind of visual novel are you playing then? For me it is otomege. Ikemen is justice and the ships shall sailed! Hehehe... NOTE: I don't mean any offence to those who played nukige or eroge. It's a matter of preference and I have no say on that.

Just set up Chiitrans to capture the text from the clipboard in the settings while making sure that the Textrator extension for copying the text to clipboard is active.

I generally don't read nukige (unless it picks my interest for some peculiar reason, or someone sends me one for review, which is happening more and more often with Steam openly allowing porn) and usually choose all-ages versions of VNs whenever that's a viable option. I don't have any moral problems with h-scenes, but I don't use them for "intended purposes", and more often than not find them extremely dull and narratively hollow, so I have little hesitation for skipping them altogether. My "VNs of choice" would be fluffy yuri romance and mystery. I also like things that are spicy, even to the point of including softcore sex scenes, but without all the brain-melting hentai dialogue, absurd voyeuristic positions, extreme close-ups... All that porny stuff that is just for people to get off to, instead of doing anything for the story (or at least getting your imagination working). EDIT: But I've also read euphoria and some extremely smutty short VNs, because curiosity is one of the driving forces of my VN-reading habits. :>

I am pretty sure almost everyone in this forum has read at least an eroge. As for nukiges, I don't think there are actually that many who played (or at least discussed) here. I was once like you: I avoided eroges. But as I started to read more non-eroges, the number of VNs that I was able to read became significantly smaller. Almost half of the VNs I read are 18+, and that's not because I want to view 'those scenes'. Rather, it's because I would limit my reading options by avoiding them, since many visual novels are 18+ and some do not have an all-ages version (Saya no Uta for instance). As for the types of VNs I read frequently, it's almost everything except for nukige and moege.

I recently got the impulse to go back and replay Eien no Aselia, which sat at the top (mostly by inertia and alphanumeric reasons) of my vndb votes for so long. Eien no Aselia was one of the final games I played in English before I took the dive into Japanese untranslated VNs, and I hadn't replayed it since, though I played Seinarukana within a year of entering the labyrinth. Eien no Aselia is one of those few 'oldies' I found hadn't lost anything vital in the years since I last played it. I still immensely enjoyed the story (which is only mildly different in Japanese), and I still fell in love with Aselia on first sight (I'm a sucker for bloodstained fushigi-chan girls with big swords). I empathized with Yuuto's struggles as he went from a somewhat whiny standard-issue eroge protagonist to a fully rounded out human being with a lot of admirable qualities. Eien no Aselia is one of those rare hybrids where the gameplay is something you can pick up easily even though you haven't played it in almost a decade. Oh, there were aspects I had to remember through trial and error, but I was using my old clear save, so I didn't have to bother with leveling or building anything other than ether gates... which made things a lot simpler. I remember just how much pain I suffered on higher difficulties to get those maxed levels... and why I never went back after finishing all the heroine paths, hahaha. The game is long, though it isn't nearly as long as Ikusa Megami Zero or some of the other strategy VNs. Playing it from beginning to end seven times was more than enough for me in the past. A few aspects of the game have aged poorly (though not really the visuals, which were great for the time it was made). The aspect that bothered me the most was that more effort wasn't put into developing the non-heroine spirits that you fought with. While you could access scenes that did develop them somewhat if you made the right dialog choices and didn't let them die in battle, there is definitely a sense that the writers considered them disposable, despite giving them really distinctive personalities that came out on first meetings. Replaying Aselia made me remember why I was so eager to see a third Eien Shinken game, and I'm still eagerly awaiting the day when the TBA on the vndb page for Shinyaku Eien no Aselia turns to a real release date.

Personally, I like my pumpkins materialistic, but hey, you can't convince every vegetable to accept your particular doctrine, can you? PS Also, when fully displayed this screen uses the word "pumpkin" six times in like five lines of text. Won't call out the developer, but by the point they made this VN they should really have known better.

I don't play nukiges either ^^ Eroges, sometimes, but I usually go for an all-ages version then. Sex scenes just make me uncomfortable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll stomach them if they're important for the plot or characterization, but since that's not the case 9 times out of 10... As for what I do read, I like otome, BL, yuri, mystery, and horror <3

I am pretty open to anything as long as it's not Nukige or BL. I am not really a fan of H-scenes in VNs but as long as the story is clearly the focus I can stomach them. It's also the reason why I play most VNs on Steam where those (usually irrelevant) scenes are cut out. Other than that I will read just about anything

I don't read Nukige. I read most vns on Steam, unless they're not on there then yeah. There are a lot of good ones out there. I don't feel comfortable with H-scenes, so I like to buy them on Steam if the translation is good or at least decent. I'm only picky about machine or Google translations. My favorite genres are usually mystery, Psychological, drama, Otome, comedy, some moege, Utsuge, Nakige, romance, some horror, action, fantasy, charage, and Chuuni. Lol there are a lot of genres and type of vns I enjoy. I just love variety and a good story.

Play Muv Luv, then Muv Luv Alternative. You should never skip a sequel before reading a prequel, even if said prequel is not as good as the sequel. As others have mentioned, the Muv Luv series is supposed to be experienced as a whole. Even if Muv Luv Alternative works well on its own, its emotional impact is far greater if you had read Muv Luv.

I would NOT recommend reading only Alternative. There are a few reasons: you totally missed the MCs development all the heroines are strangers to you. That you know them so well after Extra + Unlimited is what makes Alternative so good! I think you won't understand many things like what the MC does differently than before or why he treats the heroines the way he does I don't think Extra and Unlimited are that bad. I had pretty much fun reading them I still see all 3 parts as one huge VN. For me they belong together

Hanahira. Seriously, this is probably the first untranslated VN for the majority of untranslated readers. This list here has a variety of relatively easy VNs, however I need to make a few notes. Start with more school life stuff like Flyable hearts, Hoshimemo or Key works. School life is the basic vocabulary for wast majority of other novels (since nearly all of them takes place in highschool). Avoid Eustia, Baldr, Route Double, Subahibi, Chuusingura, Himawari or Island for now. They do have specific vocabulary that will make your reading hard if you know little of JP.

You have two choices: 1. Play Extra and Unlimited before Alternative 2. Don't play Alternative at all.

Textractor is the best one out there right now. I use it in combination with Chiitrans as a parser for dictionary definitions and look up random words it doesn't hook properly online. Here's the git for it. https://github.com/Artikash/Textractor/releases

of all the VN soundtracks the one that really stuck with me is the one of Komyu. I found it really epic and fiiting for the situations. Perhaps that is why I liked that VN more than most other people. Although the Dies Irae soundtrack is a close second!

This is pretty weird indeed, who disabled an edit button. Well, as I mentioned above, this is a pretty poor and unfounded speculation so I wouldn't just blame Favorite for the expensive goals, there are dozens of variables. Yes, this is why I brought it up in the first place. I know you are speaking extremely hypothetically but we should live in the present. It means that we either get VNs like this officially or don't get them at all. The only person who could, in theory, decently fan-translate IroSeka has founded NekoNyan. Nowadays you won't get fan-translations of the publishers who already dabble in the western market no matter how long you wait, unless it's some miracle release like Baldr Force, for the few exceptions readable fan-translations are basically dying out and that's actually a good thing. Saying that it "should have been fan translated for free because I think Favorite asks too much money" is just so senseless that I couldn't keep my mouth shut. I do regret the impulse already, I know this won't get me anywhere.

20 years of playing VNs, many in native Japanese. Still can't stand mosaics. Go out of my way to try and only pay money for games that are un/decensored.

Almost ready to send to QC. So hopefully the patch will be ready by late February February is also when the QCer is most free, so high hopes that the patch will be released by then.
