A moege set in an 80s/90s hollywood winter sports setting. It can either be utterly oblivious of how lame it is or completely self-aware and a snark parody.

Something around the lines of: "Protagonist, childhoodfriend/sister/classmate/whatever and token-male-comic-relief-character go skiing and meet 3-4 more girls to fall in love with. There, the group will have the time of their lives, doing winter sports, drinking hot chocolate and lazing around the cosy fireplace. But then suddenly, a corperate big-shot asshole in a suit wants to demolish the charming, run-down ski resort to build a huge hotel and the only way to stop him is by beating him (or his son) in a race down the most dangerous track on the mountain!"

This might sound like sometimes that has been told 1000 times already, but I actually bothered to look up on this. I could not find a single Visual Novel on VNDB which is dedicated to winter sports. The closest things I could find were this and part of the Da Capo 2 common route. 

It would be cliché, but also radical, since no one ever did it before. Radically cliché, if you will. That's meta as fuck...

Mmmm, yeah that would be neat. Kinda like Osadai but instead the MC is the president. Considering terrorists seem popular nowadays, there should be an option to romance a terrorist leader who is now genderbended into a hot Arab chick.

The tragedy of a sentient cursed sword that, because is so frequently buried in the viscera of people, developed a high knowledge of human anatomy and dreams of becoming a doctor one day to save as many people as it killed.

 

But finds out it's impossible since it doesn't have opposable thumbs.

I want both of these to be soul-crushingly sad. I'd read both.

Options:

1) Great characters and plot

2) Eroge/nukige with gorgeous astronaut heroines

Some ideas popped into my head again:

- A vn with a protagonist who just got out of a harsh relationship falls in love with his cellphone's built-in personal female voice assistant (like Siri). The story follows his journey as he tries to find the origins of this woman's voice. 

- A galge where the protagonists spend a good half of the vn romancing girls in an online dating site/social media site. Latter half is the big reveal when you see them in real life. Add an obligatory yaoi route for the MMORPG (Many men online role playing as girls) joke.

- A moege vn about a high school chess club. Surprisingly, the protagonist is the only male member in it (it's very rare to find any chess club with any girls in it).

- A mystery vn of a pie connoisseur who visits a town known for its "meat" pies. As he learns more about this town's shady dealings, he finds out that the special ingredient that makes the pies taste so good is....... /cliffhanger

I honestly can't figure out what to say about a lot of these.  Thinking about a radical VN plot usually has to do with understanding the writing principles behind them.  We're doing the avoiding tropes part but seem to be pinpointing on what the important part of the concept is.

But, I digress.

 

---A man is conscripted to defend against an alien menace that invades peoples minds and attacks them in their dreams.  It turns out he's an insane man in a coma and that everything's caused by his girlfriend's ghost seeking revenge because he murdered her.

Not sure if this has been done before but you the protag, are an 80 year old man and your wife has died. You get sent to an old folks home or maybe an neighbourhood for old people waiting for their time to come. There you meet with 4 other senior citizens. One if them has azeimers disease, the other is a crazy cat lady(because why not), the third is a bed ridden grandmother who has been hit by stroke, the final heroine is an old lady who refuses to act her age. 

Your goal? Find a way to escape the old folks home and get revenge on your children for sending you there. What were you thinking? Find love as an old man to replace your wife?

Oh man, it would revolutionize the yuri vn genre if NTR was paired with it. All we've been getting with yuri vns are diabetes inducing vanilla.

So u want a silly plot? Even absurd? I have an idea:

A fantasy eroge, in unknown world (mainly in a dark forest), where the protagonist (male) finds a strange city. The city is little (if u know what i mean, little like the buildings and people are small like rats) and the protagonist is lost and he s finding a place to sleep. He made a kind of roof out of a fallen tree and sleeps a night there. Now! The main thing. The liliputs from the city use some kind of magic on him while he is sleeping. Whenhe wakes up, he finds himself as a liliput like the inhabitants of the city. He s shocked and etc, that s not important. And like i said it would be an eroge, there would be alot of girls that attract hi  but he s too afraid to do something, and it would just continue some way (i haven t written anything, i can only say this). It could be even a kind of horror because when the people are so small, the animals living in the forest were obviously monstrous, and they could terrorize the city, who knows! xD

And that s what u wanted i hope.

A silly plot, that noone ever could even think about before, if someone wanted to use it, feel free

I can't believe I missed this excellent thread until now. It might be because I already find Cer's VN taste a bit intimidating, so something that she thought of as "radical" would probably come off to me as "terrifying"... but I mustered my courage to read the thread anyway, and it's great! I tend to find setting very important, so I tried to think of some unusual ones. I was amused to find that the "Submarine" tag has no fewer than 12 matching VNs on VNDB. However, none of them appears to be a locked-room mystery, so I present:

 

A submarine captain is murdered with a firearm, but mysteriously nobody aboard the cramped boat hears it occur. Our protagonist, the chef, becomes the ranking officer overnight, but with no better alibi than peeling potatoes, he'll certainly be named the primary suspect when the sub reaches port. He's got his eye on the wily and attractive ship physician, whose heated arguments with the captain were common mess hall gossip, but the true motive may be something far more personal. Will he crack the case in time, or is it his future to waste away in military prison like so much rotting produce?

 

Edit: Ok, here's a much better idea:

A charage where you play as Baldr, Norse God of Light. You spend your days with your osananajimi, the gorgeous but unreliable gender-bent Loki; you spend your nights carousing in Valhalla, wooing women.

The game has 3 heroines, each with their own True Ending. After the credits roll at the end of the route, we see a final cutscene: Baldr and heroine, dead in the snow. Heroine has a bullet through her head, and Baldr has a hole where his heart used to be. A little further away, we see Loki, her back to us, a glock in one hand and a piece of mistletoe, dripping blood and gore, in the other.

After you complete all the True Endings, the Lie Ending route becomes available. Baldr and yandere Loki get together. In the post-credit cutscene for the Lie Ending, Loki and Baldr are leaning towards each other for a kiss. Loki blushes furiously, while Baldr looks uneasily upwards, where Loki holds a piece of mistletoe above their heads.

Reviving this because i felt inspired: A multiverse-based VN where the main character can't avoid his death fate because the villain has too much willpower to lose in any reality at that point in time, but before dying he impregnates the true route girl and his daughter takes care of the villain in a lenghty after-story.

Another one: a VN where the big plot twist is that all Eroge heroines are actresses over 18 that pretend to be teenagers like in regular porn, which would explain the discrepancy between the "all are of legal age" disclaimers and the heroines being first and second-years.
