Favorite BGM/soundtrack of a Visual Novel

Absolutely agree. Visual Novels are a wonderful combination of Visuals, Audio and text. Good music is just as necessary as good art and good writing to make a great VN.

To anwser the question, Symphonic Rain without a doubt contains my favorite OST. My personal favorite tracks in Symphonic Rain are the vocal and non-vocal versions of Rain Musique:

Personally I find the non-vocal version even more soothing:

Oh, wow.

That comes dangerously close to being plagiarism of the Costa Del Sol theme from FF7.

Seriously, look it up and compare them. :o

My all around favorite OST is likely Saya no Uta.

The BGM gets more and more schizophrenic as the VN goes on.

I love the vast majority of ZIZZ' work, but Kikokugai and the above mentioned are the ones that stand out.

Sharin no Kuni, Ayakashibito, Kara no Shoujo, Cartagra, Swan Song, Muv Luv Alternative and Steins;Gate also have exceptional OSTs.

Haven't finished more than 30 VNs, but less than half of them has had noteworthy BGM.

There's some really great VN OST's out there. Few of my faves already mentioned, especially Umineko & Rose Guns Days and Shinji Hosoe's stuff for 999/VLR (especially Quaternary Game). Takeshi Abo's work on the Infinity series and Chaos;Head is all over my favorite playlists, although I admire his consistency across whole osts rather than brilliance over 1 or 2 tracks.

I love Kara no Shoujo - Investigation

But my No1 VN composer has to be Ryu Umemoto.

Desire, Yuno, Burst Error. All Masterpieces. A great mix of atmospheric and listenable pieces. All composed on tight budgets and now archaic hardware, yet IMHO they retain a timeless quality even now. R.I.P

Jeez Louise, be careful with the embedded Youtube videos. Our computers have to load all of them, even if they are in spoilers. I believe that linking would be better, though I am too lazy to do either. :P

On-topic, it'd take forever to explain all my favorites. BGM can decide whether or not I enjoy a VN. I'd say some of the most notable are "Narcissus" from Narcissus, "Over the Rainbow" from Over the Rainbow (srs about those two), "Sprouting" from Rewrite, "The Girl from the Starry Sky" from My Girlfriend is the President, "Hyun-ae (Innocence)" from Analogue: A Hate Story "Dream" from Hate Plus, and pretty much everything from Katawa Shoujo, among others. That's to make no mention of OPs, which are excellent more often than not.

Didn't we have a thread for this already?

My deepest apologies if there is already a thread like this before. I'm a newcomer and I might haven't noticed.

Sleep early and your alarm clock will never be a problem~!

Never tried Daylight, but I've been waking up to Wiosna for one year or so and I still don't hate it (possibly because it fails to wake me up more often than not)

I like Wiosna too. As for my alarm tone, it's Magic Ensemble from Little Busters!. I like that one! (Not my favorite though)

From Sharin no Kuni, it's no other than Mallow. (Makes me want to buy a guitar and it's my ringtone xD)

Lastly, G-senjou's soundtracks appeal to me, since I am fond of Classical.

My favorite in this VN are Tranquillity (from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1) and their version of Bach's Aria on G-string (makes me emotional)

I personally don't believe a visual novel is great without a good OST, myself. Grisaia would have been a lot better had it more memorable tracks (Tunafish beautiful is great though, along with the ones posted earlier).

I have too many to select a particular one, but I will just post a few because I love OSTs.

One of my favorite visual novel writers, Go from Blank Note, once said that a visual novel is 25% visuals, 25% writing and 50% music. While I believe that was a bit of an exaggeration, I definitely find music very important for this kind of media. So important in fact, I made a TOP 100 list of my favorite visual novel music on youtube. You can check it out, if you are interested (a couple of tracks overlap with the ones already suggested in this thread though :D).

Now that the topic is properly (?) revived, I can't hold back my spam anymore.

Subarashiki Hibi's OST is so good that picking a single song feels like a huge disservice. Definitely a well earned second spot right under Umineko, but competing with Umineko will never be fair thanks to it's ~100 songs. :D

Sorry, I can't help it.

Let me spam some more SubaHibi songs, too. I've been listening to this OST the most out of all VN OSTs next to Umineko, by the way. There are so many great OSTs I've listened to but I keep coming back to this one because it just... stands out so much. (*‿*✿)

This song is so amazingly impactful holy crap.

So far out of all the boss battle remix themes in Yumina, the Shrine Maidens one is my favorite. I guess I just like those types of instrumentals >.>

Shrine Maidens

Natsuya's battle theme was definitely appropriate for her  <_< 1v4ing & nuking my entire team what a god

Maino's was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFbqQfe-hXM, Rei's was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJk4QtbhUCw.
