The sequels will get Vita ports too? That's great to hear. But,even if you don't have explicit sex,you can't get away with

incest with your blood-related sister and your blood-related mom...

You are worrying about something that;s at least a year or more away. Just enjoy the fact its getting officially localized.

I'm not worried,I'm just curious.I certainly am happy with these announcements. And if they somehow managed to convince Key to officially bring a VN of theirs, despite their supposed xenophobic stances towards westerns playing their games,I am very hopeful they can bring their other VNs as well, even if most of them have already been translated now.

Also, since it's Koestl and indirectly Grisaia related, I'll say here that it's been announced that the game Koestl is translating for MangaGamer is Ourai no Gahkthun (or Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning in english). This is the most recent entry in Liar-Soft's steampunk series (also known for Sekien no Inganock and Shikkoku no Sharnoth, which are already in English), and is the game that Koestl postponed the Grisaia no Meikyuu translation to work on. While I might have rather had Meikyuu, Gahkthun seems like a really rad game, and features Nikola Tesla as a hero battling lovecraftian beasts. The other games in the series are also pretty cool, and people who haven't checked them out should do so.

well was gonna try to buy this if physical edition came out but digital copy only? i'll only bother then if its released in the iOS or sth

btw it will be all-ages? i dont really care about the h-scenes but if the dialouge gets censored too much it would kinda suck

anyway one of my fav ever VNs getting a official TL is great news, maybe this will develop into sth bigger in the future ;d

That will probably depend upon sales of Planetarian.

There will almost certainly be no censoring of the dialog. Again, not all-ages, it's 17+. This is why it sucks how people always refer to "no porn" as "all-ages"

koestl has said as much on both /vn/ and reddit, even in the tlwiki irc. the dialogue will be the same but polished, not to mention new content. So mad hype all around.

It's not entirely about the H.

If you've read Grisaia you know there are a lot of adult jokes and that sex scenes are - on some routes - kinda all over the place.

The question is, will the transition to All-ages affect the "quality" of the game or not ?

And if you look at Sekai's answers, they don't say much.

The answer is no. This is an official release by the original creators and nothing at all like Kono-Sora. The game is still going to have all its sexual humor.

Herkz went ahead and answered alot of the dumb shit people are saying on reddit, so if you're curious on why it had to be all ages/some other random question he probably answered it in the thread, so you can check that and see his reponses.

So, let me put it straight - the game will get an M rating anyway, but they are removing the original H-scenes from the western release? And of course, they have no plans for a patch that would add H-content back for those who'd like to have it. They can't be serious.

When will the western community get the proper, mature treatment? If not for our moralfags, it's always japanese devs getting the wrong idea or not being serious enough to push content through. I have no plans to support this, in that case.

And in exchange they get the game on Steam. That doesn't seem like a bad deal honestly.

It's obvious they're removing H-scenes because they want to release it on platforms like Steam where such content is not allowed.

There's no way Sekai Project is going to start making tons of physical copies just for the sake of porn.

I don't get why lose their heads over something as obvious as this.

Now for those who want the h-scenes, sure that's a little disappointing, but i'm much happier about seeing it coming to the west with an official release than anything else, and on Steam nonetheless. It's not perfect but the upsides are bigger than the downsides.

It's not going to be the atrocity that MoeNovel did where, on top of removing any kind of hint of romance that the VN had to offer, they translated it with atrocious english.

By "all ages" they mean it just won't have the sex scenes. All the sex humor will be there and it'll most likely get an M rating just like Steins;Gate.

Will we ever see a patch to restore the h-scenes? I have no idea, but I don't think losing H-scenes is that much of a big price to pay for what Sekai Project has achieved here.

Besides one can just go read the original if they want to fap to the H-scenes that badly. Problem solved.

It's still a watered-down version, just for the sake of increased sales. It's the same what japanese devs do by adding porn. The only difference between our nations is that japs don't have issues with sexual content, while we do. Steam is a non-factor from that perspective.

I'm glad Sekai is making bold moves, but it's not good enough yet. For one, I don't want vn's on Steam. I want original, TL'ed releases on my own PC.

I don't really care either way.

From what I read, Steam is the problem preventing them from releasing the mature version.

They want to release on steam, it's their choice (I think Steam/Online platforms (or whatever) suck but that's my opinion)

So yeah, they'll get a M rating.

And some people are so desperate for H that it's kinda funny.

I mean there's still the fan translation, stop whining people.

Edit : That said I'm unsure about how well this will sell ...

Getting on the front page of Steam is some of the best advertising for PC games these days. If a game is released on Steam it gets featured under New Releases, and that will give the game quite a few sales even if it's a terrible game, much more if it's actually good. And if they manage to get it featured on the front page under Top Sellers or on the banner at the top, that'll give them a huge amount of sales, even if half the people who buy it hate it because they're illiterate.

If this official release were to keep sex scenes in the game, the content would be rated A by the ESRB. Adult games are very rare, if existent at all. Don't they need to be specially ordered because they can't be sold by game companies (Sony), in regular retail stores, or on digital websites such as Steam? I feel that defeats the purpose of releasing the game with an official translation if the places it can be sold are out of the question.

Sekai is making one big mistake; they are too desperate to pull all their future releases onto Steam. Steam won't benefit them; they are selling a niche product. It's not Super Meatboy, it's not Braid, it's not CoD. It's a fucking japanese eroge. They won't gain bigger audience by placing Grisaia on Steam; what current western publishers do is release vn's for their fanbase. I'd love if they'd finally understand that and start delivering proper distributions. I don't mind them placing non-h vn's on Steam, but for gods' sake, why forcing an eroge onto Steam? They won't ever get on frontpages; forget about it.

That's the problem. I don't care whether the original creators are fond of that, or not; I doubt any struggling dev would cringe upon perspective to get more "reliable" income sources; the issue is that again, it's not the game we're expecting to get. And a quite decent, high quality title, to add. They could, of course, simply release a h-patch that would be available for download only from their website, but I doubt they care enough to actually make everyone happy.

There's something like self-publishing. It existed ages before Gaben even thought about something like Steam. Everyone can distribute their games digitally nowadays. The problem is that Sekai propably wants to minimize both the costs and dillemas associated with releasing an "adult" game.

Witcher is an adult game, too. It has sex scenes and strong sexual content. It's on Steam. It's the typical western hypocrisy.

I believe this falls into a topic for the Fuwanovel podcast. Episode 10...you should volunteer for it.

Everyone else should volunteer for that episode as well. There is a lot of interesting discussion in this thread.

IIRC the only VNs on Steam are Go Go Nippon and various OELVNs, with Higurashi only planned to be released, so while I think there's a good chance this will flop, there's no real precedent for something like this, so it very well could succeed.

Edit: And by flop I mean it will still get lots of sales by virtue of just being on Steam, just not nearly as many as if it gets on the front page.

This has more CG's and extra scenes. It's just missing porn that really doesn't do much in Grisaia at all besides a few jokes.

Also you are insane if you think Grisaia being on steam doesn't help. The amount of people that use steam is insane, this is absolutely the best way to get it out to as many people as possible.

That is 100% False, steam would immediately pull it off. I don't care how pissed you are over a couple of pointless porn scenes, but leave ignorant nonsense out of it please.
