Idk I think sites like DLsite and DMM look super legit despite the nature of their products.

Mashiro iro Symphony has been the top of my wishlist for as long as I've known about it. At some point though it became a top motivator for learning Japanese. If it ever gets translated, I probably won't read it in English although I would probably back a physical version kickstarter if they decide to do one of those since the physical Japanese version is kinda expensive.

Nope, no PMs here. Not a big deal to me but I did want be able to edit the thread so no one would be disappointed with a dead code like you were.
I just hope it didn’t get sucked up by a bot or anything.

Orfluers - You might need a somewhat liberal interpretation of "medieval" to make this one fit. The brothers are all knights (I think) so that's why I’m posting it, but most of the screenshots seem like the setting is a bit later than "medieval."

I don't think OP is asking about any kind of machine translation, they just want the unvoiced text to be read out in Japanese, which is something Google Translate can do in addition to its attempts at translating. Definitely seems useful if you're shaky on Kanji readings.
That said, I have no idea how to get something like that to work.

There was some more content on hacking (as well as tl) on insani's now-dead blog, archive link: http://web.archive.org/web/20080910044341/http://sekai.insani.org/

Better tutorials on hacking/repacking VN archive files, and decompiling/recompiling script files. That's easily the most esoteric thing I've ever tried to research. This is the best set of articles I can find:
    https://hackernoon.com/reverse-engineering-visual-novels-101-d0bc3bf7ab8
    https://hackernoon.com/reverse-engineering-visual-novels-101-part-2-9258f547262a
and even they assume /a lot/ of prerequisite knowledge that I just don't have, and they don't really explain the thought process behind figuring out how to pick these files apart.

tahu157 got a reaction from yelsha57 in Sekai Project offering refunds for Narcissu kickstarter
For the last year or so the Narcissu team has been porting all of the games and side stories to Unity for what they believe will be the best possible version of the games. It's been taking forever though and a few weeks ago they held a poll for physical backers asking if we wanted to them to wait until the porting was finished to start producing the physical copies of the game, or just go ahead and ship out physical copies with the current, non-Unity version of the game. The poll came back with a pretty large majority voting to wait. However, they acknowledge that some people are probably sick of waiting at this point (it's been almost 4 years) and are offering refunds on the campaign through the month of April.
    From the email:
The email doesn't really say whether or not everyone that backed can opt for a refund, but I would guess that only physical backers can actually get one. They sent Steam keys out like a year and a half (or more?) ago so digital-only backers have already received what they paid for. Not sure if anyone here backed physically and is interested in a refund, but I thought I'd make the post in case anyone does want one and didn't catch the email.
Also, as far as I know this is the first time Sekai Project has voluntarily offered refunds for any of their campaigns. If I were to read into this move more deeply I'd probably say that this is Sekai Project indirectly admitting that they took on way too many projects way too fast.

Considering Kickstarter updates and authors Twitter account going silent back in 2016 (it looks like the Kickstarter campaign was run in December 2014/January 2015), the project is definitely long dead. Considering how abrupt the radio silence was, I'd suspect some RL disaster striking the dev and derailing the whole process completely. Purposefully scamming people on a VN Kickstarter and then delivering updates for the next years and a half sound like the most tedious way on Earth to steal money.
EDIT: Just to be clear, the utter lack of communication and no attempt at taking responsibility for the failed project during the three years since it went off the rails is still absolutely disgusting. I just think it's very unlikely that was the author's original intent.

Well, you inspired me to go looking again and I that found Light_DatExtract.exe from this repository will unpack those exec.dat files: https://github.com/regomne/chinesize/tree/master/Malie/exdieslib
Just gotta figure out why you can't get into the archive in the first place. Worst case, you could open an issue on the Garbro github and let morkt know that some versions of Malie won't open.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable or ‘chauvinistic’ for me to expect the reviewers I read to have a certain level of reading comprehension for the VNs that they review, and frankly MTL just doesn’t meet that level yet.
