Majikoi opened up the Vn world for me. It caught me at a right time 2, i was going through some rough stuff when i discovered this Vn. It helped me laugh things off for a bit and relax for a few hours everyday. Its amazing that you'll do this for free, spend so much time and effort on it, so others can enjoy it 2. If i didn't read Majikoi, i wouldn't have got hooked in to Vn's. That would have been a sad thing indeed. So thank you'll for translating those Vns.
I'm really grateful to you'll for translating those two games, it may not seemed like a big deal, but i'm sure those Vn's would have helped others through their own rough patches. It's a great thing, doing something selflessly no matter how small or big, to make others feel happy or happier (knowingly or not). Well that's what i think at least. You guys should be really proud.
I think i would have started ranting if i wasn't consciously editing myself right now lol. Anyway congratulations on completing A-1!! I'm going to finish the final route on Majikoi S before i go to A-1. I've been saving it till A-1 got released, for reasons .
Thanks guys. Your efforts have been and will continue to be much appreciated.

As of 20th of June 2016, I have fully translated Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo-
I started this project at 12th of January 2016, and it has now been 5 months and 7 days when I started this. I must say that the sacrifices I made in order to properly translate this we're all very much worth it, since I wouldn't be on Fuwa if not for this project. I basically halted everything, playing VNs, getting addicted on manga and conversing anywhere else except on Fuwa.
It's been quite rough at certain points, as this is still counted as a 'double-translation' despite me looking it with the Japanese script as well, and if I hadn't been doing so, the quality and how true it stays to the source-material would've been much, much lower. Although it made the translation that much slower, but nonetheless, I'm still glad that I did so, no matter how forged or phoney it might sound on text.
Believe it or not, it has helped me structure my sentences better and get better ay English, as well as Japanese. The team I also pulled together is great and I highly respect each and every individual on it. Thanks.
It's been so much fun, to translate and to get to be a part on Fuwa, and I'm sure it won't be the last of translatiins you see from me. Translation is taxing but incredibly fun and rewarding if you put your mind in it. Thanks everyone for sticking with me and see you next Saturday with the legitimate update.

XReaper reacted to Nandemonai in Nocturnal Illusion Renewal Translation Project
    Introduction
    Hello, Fuwanovel.
I am Nandemonai.  Yes, the same Nandemonai from the PP/Jast forums, and the Mangagamer forums (back when they had forums).  A few years ago, I found out that the NI Renewal version is a thing, with improved gfx and voice acting.  Since Nocturnal Illusion is still my favorite game translated in the early years, I was interested.  I have some Japanese skills, so I thought I'd try my hand at translating the updated scenes.  This wasn't possible for two reasons.  1)  The remake breaks the scenes up into completely different file structure than the original; and 2) The original translation is just terrible.  Mostly unusable, and basically unsalvagable.  I'd known it wasn't very good, but was still surprised at just how "not good" it really was.
Long story short, I decided to re-translate the entire game from scratch.  That was in 2011.  I finished up the translation some time ago.  Unfortunately, the coders I was relying on to reinsert the translation seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.
    The Team
6/26/2016 Thanks to Ryechu for agreeing to be an editor!
7/10/2016 A (belated) thanks to Mad Pierre mnakamura for agreeing to do the port.
Well, to be honest?  Right now (6/19/2016) there is no "team", there's just me.  However, I did not reach this point all by myself.
I would like to thank Kagami-sensei for generously assisting me in translating various lines that were giving me trouble.  Kagami has touched < 1% of the lines of the game, but they're all the hard lines.  Thank you very much.
I would like to thank the folks over at vilevn.org - BaSF, Fenris, and kile.  Without their assistance, this effort would have gone nowhere.  They showed me how to extract the text from the original Nocturnal Illusion.  They extracted the text from the remake (which involved finding existing tools, and then fixing bugs in them when they didn't work right).  They sadly seem to have vanished.  The last communication I had from them was in 2014, where they hoped to have a new version of vile ready "in a few months".  Thank you guys very much for all the hard work.
    Progress
    Translation: 100%
Editing: 50%  Let's break this out.  Initial editing pass: (by me) 100% Second pass (by Ryechu Darklord Rooke): 24.9% 71.0% Last updated:  07/04/2018
    Coding: Need Humanity (0%)
This project is now recruiting.  I need coders capable of getting the remade script inserted into something that runs on modern Windows.  Also, while I did a second pass of the translation and edited on the way, it probably needs real editors.
Update:  In the rollback, an edit to this post got lost.  Ryechu and Darklord Rooke have agreed to edit this, and Mad Pierre mnakamura has agreed to port the game to an engine he is working on.
    Misc
    Q.  Didn't you say the translation is at 100%?  Why 99%?
    A.  Yes, but there are a few minor nits that - since I'm creating this page anyway - I might as well try to crowdsource some picks for.  More details to follow when I have time to post them.
As it turns out, I was able to figure these out myself.
    Q.  What about licensing?  Doesn't Peter Payne have Nocturnal lllusion?
    A.  Indeed he does, and I approached him about an official release.  He informed me he hasn't got rights to the remake.  (I presume the original contract is somehow still good, but the remake needs rights that can't be gotten because the company hasn't existed in 15 years.  But Peter didn't say.)  Peter did say a fan patch was okay with him.

Since they're all I've been reading lately, I'll take a moment to say good things about the last project I edited for and the one I'm currently editing:
To Heart 2 is pretty entertaining. It's a straightforward moege with a huge cast of heroines, and to some extent represents the solidification of many of the tropes you see today. One interesting thing about this is that there are some tropes there that didn't end up being popular enough to become super common, but which might be to your taste. And on that note, I'd like to recommend:
Tama-nee is the older sister figure you secretly wish you had in your life, but wouldn't admit to it even here. She was my favorite character I encountered in the game, even though her route didn't live up to her character. Also, her H-scene at the end of the route is intense
    And then there's the twins.

They've got the opposite thing going on from Tama-nee - none of the characters on this route are as amazing as she, but the route is way, way better than I anticipated going in. The drama is surprisingly real. I was a little bit leery when I picked it up. I mean... twins? Sounds like an obvious play for whipping up teenage males into a frenzy without putting out too much effort. And, yeah, it is that. But it's also filled with relatable conflict and relationship difficulties that feel less like your typical moege artificial obstacles and more like understandable human problems. And then at the end:
So yeah, play the twins' route, too.
Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't heartily encourage you to play through all the bad ending scenes for the twins (one wrong choice and you'll land there, anyway). That's not just me wanting someone to read the stuff I edited - it's often legitimately hilarious, and one scene is crushingly heartbreaking. I'd find it a tragedy if nobody else ever played the game-within-the-game, Love Love New Heart, and equally tragic if you don't get to have your heart broken the way mine was by some of those scenes.

And so, that leaves my current project, MajoKoiNikki:
It's good. Like, really good. So far I've only read the prologue (which I've now read most of twice, and first-pass edited half of myself), but I'm very, very excited to keep reading and see what happens next, and I'm basically head over heels for all the characters. When we were divvying up first-pass edit duties for the character routes a couple days ago, I literally couldn't decide which routes I wanted because all the girls are so much fun. Look forward to it!

XReaper reacted to mnakamura in Mikan Engine: ScummVM-like HTML5 VN engine to port everything to
    Hi there, fellow VN fans,
I always had a thought: why do we have so many proprietary and semi-proprietary VN engines? There are *many* defiencies in having a closed source engine (and kinda inaccessible VN content): there are problems with running it on many platforms (like 95% of modern VNs are released for Windows, good luck trying to read them on your Android / iOS device), there are these infamous problems with "Japanese locale required", sooner or later platforms become inaccessible (good luck trying to run some less popular games of Windows 95-98 era - they won't
run on modern Windows 7/8/10 in any of the compatibility modes). If one wants to grab text for translation, one has to resort to really ugly API hooking hacks. Etc, etc.
So, why not just convert VNs to some easier, more universal, accessible format? I've followed the pattern of ScummVM project (a universal engine that runs adventure games) and thought - why not?
There are 2 projects close to what I thought: that is VNDS, which is, unfortunately, dead, and Asenheim, which is, unfortunately, not free/open source and I can't participate in it.
Today I'd like to share some of my progress, proof-of-concepts and ideas.
I've studied several VN engines, namely:
Kirikiri2 (AKA TVP) NScripter BGI (Buriko General Interpreter) Whale Caramelbox SysAdv Ren'Py Tyrano Yuka VNDS Asenheim What do I have now:
An understanding of some common baseline capabilities that all these engines have A project of JSON-based format (basically, some metainformation plus an array of simple instructions like "show text", "show graphics", "play sound", etc) A proof-of-concept engine written in HTML5+JavaScript (well, actually CoffeeScript) Most important: some working converters for several games that can be used on original games' data to make a "port" that my engine will be able to run A list of VNs I currently support and working on:
Koisuru Shimai no Sextet - https://vndb.org/v13353 (Yuka) Zutto Tsukushite Ageru no! - https://vndb.org/v8439 (Yuka) Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba - https://vndb.org/v100 (SysAdv) Sakura Swim Club - https://vndb.org/v18261 (Ren'Py) Edelweiss Eiden Fantasia - https://vndb.org/v2093 (BGI) Koneko Doumei - https://vndb.org/v153 (BGI) Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart - https://vndb.org/v18148 (Whale) Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru - https://vndb.org/v195 (Caramelbox) Here's how it looks like:

A few nice things that I already have is full customizability (like using any skin for every VN for UI), support for multiple simultaneous languages (like showing original Japanese + English translation for the sake of learning Japanese from it), support for annotated Japanese (i.e. adding furigana and/or hovering tooltips with word translations), etc. It's very easy to run HTML5 engine on Android and iOS (tried both), thus enabling one to enjoy reading VNs on the go.
I want to ask if anyone would be interested to take a look and possibly join me in developing / using such a concept? I'm almost ready to publish it all as open source software - actually, I just need a good name for the engine Any ideas?
If anyone wants to try translating any of mentioned games using my engine - please contact me too. Anyone who wants to participate in any way (i.e. checking out demos, porting more games, playtesting, etc) - also feel free to contact.
UPDATE: The engine is released in public and available to download at https://github.com/mnakamura1337/mikan_engine

still far away pretending to be helping out in a clients kitchen, but managed to finish my read of モミジは紅く其の身を染めて whilst hiding in a nearby toilette. first thing first, contrary to some fags wrongful perception of ao-titles being aimed at a kindergarden-ish crowd only this one is clearly not and except for some minor elements of kitsch almost everything about it is more or less rather mature. what starts out with a certain pastrelated incisive incident is followed shortly after by seemingly peaceable moments of deluding oneself under the assumption of finally having moved on and ultimately ends up in a nightmare when sins of the olden days start shredding that protective little husk of yours to pieces. though the authors attempts of creating something with literay value by adding some philosophical aspects are a little clumsy at times and not that well executed, the overall atmosphere of angst and guilt is what momiji exells at, not to mention the desperate struggle for absolution/salvation as its core-theme. in short, while certain passages appear a little out of place, btw. strange (you know what i mean when you get there :P), the read as awhole does not and feels very much human. negative emotions and the consequent amplification of theirs as the story progresses is what stands out the most, making it a gloomy experience from start to finish with even the main ending itself having a grave aura of unaccomplishment to it, similar to fraternites one, a fact which might come to annoy few, but which plays a pivotal role in what it tries to accomplish. 救いがあっても、結局代償を払っているので、本当のハッピーエンドとは言えない……。that one sums it up.
the game offers quite alot of bad outcomes (partly real bad ones) which can be a little tricky to reach, but with ones brains intact this should be a doable read in about 30-35h. as for the specs, no voices, music pleasantly befitting the atmosphere/plot and a resolution which transmutes your eyeballs into bleeding lumps of flesh, literally. but since this title is basically available for less than a cheap meals worth there´s no real point in try complaining/nitpicking.
to me it´s a solid 8,5, forwhy it managed to accomplish what it tried to & gave my mind a much needed fuckup.

I think that's more or less what I said as well. More translators will always be needed and I would not flame people for wanting to start. If I could, then I would love to open some "translator school/training ground". However now that a quality translation of Musumaker is within reach, I will not sacrifice it to train some wouldbe translators. It might be an idea to make a translation project with an easy to read VN for new translators to train themselves, but Musumaker will not be used that way.

I'm not sure branching out is the right choice of words for this. The plan is to translate Majo Koi Nikki before starting/continuing on Musumaker, not to translate in parallel. I'm currently the only one working on it and I'm restructuring/reorganizing how the translators need to input the translation. This will make it easier for the translators, less risk of screwing up (like touching a line of code, which then makes the game crash) as well as making administration easier. I can't really do this while translators are working, which makes right now is the perfect time to do something like that.
