This is the best western VN I've read until now. The protagonist is maturely written, the relationships are handled in a straightforward way with no extra fuss. Art is good, story is intriguing, and most of all the mysteries in it are played well.

Well, I wouldn't mind it too so there's at least two of us. :]
The art can look a bit mediocre when you just look at screenshots, but the expressions and variety in visual design make it much more enjoyable while actually reading the VN. I think it does a better job of communicating the story than some "objectively" prettier games and this is something I feel few people ever talk about. Good stylizati9n can make a huge difference, especially with limited resources.

    Make it 3
And I also super agree about the art bit. Something I love in those indie games is how stylish they can be.   And since it is a visual novel, visuals are important!! And Marco and Shira are nice in the visual department.

    5 stars from me ☆☆☆☆☆
Personally I wouldn't call the visuals good in a general sense, but they are above average tier for an EVN. I like being able to romance both genders and platonic friendship endings are a big big yes from me. It's something I'd love to see more of.
idk if anyone else on the planet would tho... 0.0

Then they seriously misunderstood the point of the star system. Then again I don't think hardly anyone uses it...

Sakura Nova was actually written by a Japanese writer, this dude (tfw I know the guy who translated it). While it still turned out not very good, the unusually high quality might be due to the writer having some experience.

Her english just isn't on par to be a good writer. If you want you can exchange some words with her on discord shes there under the handle @Yukari
But if you can get over her negative side and her downplaying her own capabilities and convince her to improve herself instead of hiring people who handle the hard work for her (art in G&G) , then she might create better games. But you would need to go out of your way to do that and I think you used up enough of your time with these games. The problem is they actually sell on steam. I can give you the benefit that she actually read what you've written so you might have had an impact or made her self-reflect. Maybe...

Thanks for the analysis of our fellow former no-neets member "Yukari". She's not exactly good at creating visual novels, but its the prime example of how easy people are to deceive with nice looks and shallow concepts which just involve random encounters with bland heroines and flat porn scenes. I have actually considered to look into Games and Girls if its like on sale for one or two dollars and I have a coin too much, but after your thorough analysis that likely has more substance to it than the game itself, i might avoid it from as far as I can. Also the G&G Design looks like it deceives people into buying a Neptunia-artstyle-esque game. Thanks for going out of your way, and likely many others, to play these abominations of OELVNs from a german developer that sadly represents partially the creations of our country...

    YumeCreations, more like NightmareCreations.

We know Yukari privately, so our judgement is probably already known to them. Unfortunately theres a quite lot of people buying her stuff, so she can actually meet ends with the revenue from these "titles". What a shame.

Twenty minute long hentai scene? Jesus that sounds almost nightmarish. Well I've no real intention of ever playing a Sakura vn again but at least they don't seem quite so awful as they used to.
I've been finding that the yuri protagonists I've come across in vns have been leaps and bounds better than most regular vn protags. For the most part anyway. I mean most of them don't even have faces.

Depends on what you're looking for. If it's anime boobs or even straight-up hentai, those are admittedly of consistently nice quality (both character artists that work for Winged Cloud are quite talented). If you're looking for a story, or at least something well written... Some Sakura games, like Dungeon, Fantasy or Nova have their moments, but they're generally shit when it goes to storytelling. And most of them don't even pretend to have a plot, they're just loose collections of fanservice/porn CGs.
So, in short, most of them look nice, but saying they're mediocre is being generous. You can try Sakura Dungeon (nicely-crafted dungeon crawler), Sakura Fantasy, Sakura Nova (cool sci-fi/fantasy aesthetic and lovely heroines) or Sakura Santa (no hentai, just a rather cute, dumb ecchi VN) if you want a VN you can burn a few hours with without straining your brain, but they're generally something to be avoided.

Well I suppose that make sense, the first game ending was kind of ahem....
However at the very least its free at both Steam and GOG but prefer the GOG version since I could store the installer on my Flash Drive and play it on our office heheh
Yeah ever since Loren The Amazon, they've learned a lot from it and eventually improve their games, they even produced a expansion of Loren The Amazon, I somehow forget the name... Season Of The Wolves has somehow decent RPG gameplay compared to Loren also it does have a DLC too so I guess its successful to some extent...
Try checking games from SakeVisual! Although their latest game seems to be a otome...
Anyways keep up the good work! Looking forward to hear more of your EVN reviews!

That's a fascinating way to think about it, I think you're right.
I'm hardly well versed in Chuuni but I was also curious as to its meaning at heart.
I think it's about greater purpose/meaning, ascending beyond the bounds of everyday thought and society, power to resist shackles and to be able to carve one's emotions upon the world.
It differs from power fantasy in that the focus in about escaping society and having purpose, as opposed to masterfully puppeteering the real world.

I'm not sure why you claim that this problem is especially important in VNs, numerical scores are always deeply flawed - they're, however, quite convenient and can be still useful if you make clear how you use them and keep some levels of consistency. They may reflect something very specific (your level of enjoyment with the game) or many things at once (many people on the Forums described their elaborate systems of rating VNs, with various amount of points attached to different aspects of them) - the real problem is that people both treat them way too seriously and compare them in ways that are grossly misleading. I think you could easily replace those basic ratings you've laid out with numbers without losing much of their meaning, the argumentation you add to your reviews and the additional tags that explain what kind of enjoyment these games might offer and who they're targeted towards are much more important.
EDIT: Also, I wonder, would that second category be closer to "Deeply flawed"? I know it doesn't sound as good, but I think "imperfect" is too mild of a term to communicate a game being one tier above pure trash.

Not exactly; the "patch" (it's actually just deleting a file from the game install) just makes certain characters' clothing more revealing and adds largely non-explicit nudity during the final love scene. Most of it is roughly equivalent to the content of the first Dragon Age game (which Loren the Amazon Princess clearly takes after in a lot of ways). You'll get to see Chambara's breasts, but that's it. This was when Steam was a lot less lenient about the types of sexual content it would allow on its platform.

Plk_Lesiak reacted to Clephas in Why are so many Vampire protagonists self-hating?
The protagonist hates being a vampire for all of the common route (though he enjoys some of the perks, like getting to indulge in his sexual fantasies) and he resents having to drink blood through a lot of the heroine routes.
