I'm starting to hate that new marketinig trend, when there are teasers to teasers to teasers. It isn't limited to games, BTW...

If anyone was interested in this game they would have already translated it years ago. Dunno what's up with people starting translation projects only after something is badly translated...

i bet there´s actually A WHOLE LOT more people going for its 17+ version than many think there are. like it´s basically the complete game, just without the porn, so said version should be perfect for reading on tablets etc when being among others. no risk of getting weird looks when suddenly stumbling upon h-scenes. at home is at home. and not everyone feels comfortable viewing porn in public. of cource there´s also others who dislike h-scenes in general.

"Oi" could just mean the TL is a Brit, or just that they like the sound of that particular word. I wouldn't read too much into that.
Frankly, I think this is too small a sample size to make any kind of judgment.

Plain experience doesn't make you better. Constant practice does.
If you'll focus only on efficiency (and that's what industry requires), you will stop improving at a certain point, your main task becoming to deliver content instead. You won't have time for improvements or experimenting. Many professionals get stuck at this - they reach a certain level of proficiency and stop evolving afterwards. Becoming complacent leads to leniency. Leniency leads to routine and routine results in mistakes.
Professional TL's aren't better at all. This industry is very hermetic - the same people who used to do fan TL's in the past are currently professionals working for large publishing companies. If anything, publishers at the moment are prodding the grounds checking how far they can get away with producing as lousy releases as possible an still charge the same amount of money. It's irrelevant whether one of the translators or editors does a decent job, if the rest - especially those in charge - are a bunch of incompetent people, with sights set on the prospect of quick gain with least effort included... and it shows.

This is an important point I think. Next time someone tries to translate Cross Channel, they should do it in Trump-speak. No more problems with that complicated prose and snobbish nuance.

This just proves the West doesn't deserve kamige. Sales tells companies all they need to know and they don't give a shit if people want it enough if they know from past experience that it won't sell to their expectations.

i dont really see any reason why hobibox would or even should care about it, like it´s clear as day their version is primarily targeted at chinese speaking people, with its enrish pendant, well, might call it some low-effort throw-in at best. guess quality (in case the chn-tl wont suck) goes where the most money´s at.

or in other words, if hobibox believes translating their titles in any other language apart from chinese isnt worth the hassle, so be it.

Hello again. It's time for another progress update and there are a couple big pieces of news to report. Let's get into them
    Translation
    Prologue - 100% (1791/1791)
    Main School - 100% (2691/2691)
    Tonoko Route -  1% (123/8709)
    Branch School - 10% (572/5846)
    Total - 8% (5177/68206)
    TLC
    Prologue - 100% (1791/1791)
    Main School - 6% (157/2691)
    Branch School - 3% (187/5846)
    Total - 3% (2135/68206)
    Edit
    Prologue - 95% (1704/1791)
My first piece of news has already been reported by Ittaku. The main school common route's translation has been completed. Also, since Ittaku doesn't know how to take a break, he has started on Tonoko's route. Finally, editing is almost finished for the prologue, which means the prologue patch is close.
My second piece of news is that I'm looking for an extra editor for the project. Since this VN is quite large, having one editor working on it by themselves is a pretty insane task to ask of somebody. So I'm looking for an editor who feels qualified enough to take on a task like this project. If you want to apply for the position, then contact me here on Fuwanovel in the PMs.
We are also still looking for a permanent TLC to work on this project. Please PM me if you're interested in working as a TLC for this project.
I'll see you guys next week.

just when i wanted to state the exact same u already did. totally surprised there´s so much of a riot coming to said title´s delayed approval. and before someone´s starts the usual whitenightening of pioneers, nah, its devs are also totally no doing the oelvn scene any good by going the full weeb way of life, including a fuckfest full of jp tropes, casting jp va´s instead of native ones etc...

You're not limited to Steam as a release platform. VN devs finally need to stop abusing Steam. If they need porn that badly, maybe they should change their market. There's both Fakku and Nutaku available as well.
Steam doesn't allow porn, simple as that. The non-steam patches are only a half-assed grey zone band aid to circumvent the inconvenience, Steam never really approved.
At the same time, Steam is ready to actually allow sexual content in vns, providing it has either artistic or intellectual merit. Guess what - vast majority of 18+ vns don't have that - it's either porn or fan service for the heck of it, despite what community thinks. Adult visual novels could easily have more value to them, but so far most devs constantly prove otherwise through their own actions. It's plain hypocrisy and I'm honestly fed up with it. I'm not surprised at all they refused to publish Starnova as it stands now - it's meant to be an edgy, weeb-pandering porn game involving idols, lol.
Complaining about this in general - especially as a developer - is just silly. Most devs got what was coming at them.
Steam is not a platform to release porn games and 18+ visual novels. Period.

Yeah, let's single people out and make fun of them. Real mature. Especially when you have no evidence that this person is in any way responsible for the issues with the game (hint: they aren't).

selfpublishing might, or might not be better, depending on how it´s done in the end. just no letting dudes/gals handle things in a way that´s either good, or fantl-quality at best. still greatly bothered by a certain individuals statements from not too long ago

don´t really mind them venturing into english terrain before facing financial shenanigans, as long as it won´t mean entrusting things to a company whose higher ups believe that putting efforts in (thoroughly) editing/betatesting/QA titles is a fukking waste of time, because eroge don´t generate enough revenue and customers aren´t supposed to complain/whine in the slightest, but that´s what it probably means, so ... *huge sigh

    Hello,
Though I haven't been updating the patch (for a long time now zzz) and the thread, the translation is still alive. I'm working on chapter 6 at the moment. I think it'll be done with it in the next few weeks or so.
I don't know when it'll be but I'll update the patch once we're satisfied with the translation. Please wait a little bit more for it. Thank you ^^.

I'll just leave my feedback here since Prefundia may never get around to restoring my comment (which was marked as spam):
Ninetail did a great job responding to fan concerns after the early info leaks: confirming an 18+ release on JAST, mosaic removal, and a free 18+ patch for the Steam version to be released same-day. Base goal seems reasonable and likely to be achieved. A gameplay trial (presumably released in time for the Kickstarter?) should win over SRPG lovers. $30 is VERY reasonable for a massive, complex game like this with high replay value.
However, I do still have concerns:
The project page seems rather "rough". The writing looks like the rushed work of one person without editing. I haven't played the demo yet, but I hear it suffers from similar issues. You really need a professional editor to raise this from "passionate amateur" to "competent professional" tier. There's so much love and care put into the original writing, and it's a shame to see it degrade in translation. At the very least, professional editing should be added as stretch goal #1. You mention that parts of the translation will be outsourced. To whom, and how much? What sort of quality can we expect? Can you give us a sample of their work or tell us what VNs they've translated? Honestly, I'd rather see professional editing and no TL outsourcing, especially with no samples of their work provided. Adding an editor to the TL workflow should increase both the speed and the quality of the translation. It's the industry standard method of localization. Even fan translations use editors, and they're generally easier to find than JP -> ENG translators too.
