I find it funny that people are complaining about realism when what they are doing is escapism into a virtual fake world while reading anyway.

 

As for Grisaia, I never had any issue with it the entire time, maybe my disbelief is just suspended higher than some.  I still think that you should never compare anything in a story to real life unless they start mentioning explicit references to real world places in context to the story that firmly place it in reality.  The minute there is any supernatural aspect in the story, that belief should fall apart.  As for Grisaia, I don't believe they ever mention any real life cities, and even if they do, you know its a fictional universe because they have a school for socially innept children THAT HAS 5 STUDENTS.

 

I frankly have to agree that anyone who looked for realism in Grisaia was completely misreading it.  Grisaia is the in the category of stories where you are meant to relate to it, but not explicitly compare it to the real world.  We can relate to myths and legends, but we don't at all start complaining that they are too unrealistic because we know they aren't in the first place.  I'm gonna use a really awful piece of argument right now: they have that warning that the entire story is fiction at the beginning, heed it.

Btw I never said i was looking for realism while reading this particular novel or any other in that matter, even when they aim for realism(like narcissu i guess) it's just a novel and calling it escapism is a bit harsh.

Out of all the routes, Michiru's gets retconned the hardest in Meikyuu/Rakuen. Grisaia was always weird about... I don't like to use the word 'realism', but what else to use here... genre, I guess? While the constant jumps between the serious parts and the comedy work perfectly well, the parts where the writers can't agree on whether it's a fantasy, sci-fi or a military thriller do the exact opposite. I've nevr seen such an inconsistent trilogy, what was Frontwing doing. D:

 

I guess you can just believe what you like the best at this point, really. With so many different versions and retcons, it's almost impossible to keep track of what's the real story - or tone - even supposed to be.

Amane's route contains pretty much the best part of all of Grisaia's routes, after all the porn. You should hold on, you won't get much more than this after the common route to be honest.

 

 

I honestly thought Amane's route had the best comedy in the game. It was absolutely ridiculous and hilarious. But it was the kind of comedy that I really like, the other routes are different. After the comical porn-heavy first third of the route, the game enters a flashback sequence that is fucking intense. For real. You should skip past the sex scenes and push through to that segment, it may change your mind about Grisaia. 

 

Who knew Yuuji had something for animals with pubic hair stuffing?

Jokes aside, I think with that "I'm done worrying" line Yuuji went under a character transformation.

A minute later, we're back to the common route goodness. Yuuji isn't being so dense and is still beautifully sarcastic and witty. I think that Makina-Sachi stand-in gag was the funniest thing since Makina the BDSM Artist.

Finished いろとりどりのヒカリ (Irotoridori no Hikari) yesterday. I have to say, that while I really liked it, I was not as impressed as I was hoping for. The problem is, while I really liked Shinku prologue and route the rest was not much more than 'ok'.

 

Shinku prologue was really nice. Not much plot, but we didn't see much of everyday Yuuma and Shinku life in Iroseka, so I was ok to have it now. I got much hope there, that I will get something amazing when the plot kicks off. Unfortunately next I took Tsukasa route, which was... uh... I really have no Idea why that girl is even here. She seriously is just walking 2 jokes (about big breasts and eating) and nothing more. As a 3-rd plane character she works somehow as a comedic relief, but in her route (both in Irosera and Irohika) her lack of personality is quite painfull. Good plot could fix it a bit but nope, just some crappy romance and crappy drama.

 

Kyou route was a bit better, but it it wasn't really thanks to her, but to her brother and grandmother

. While Kyou herself isn't much more interesting person than Tsukasa the plot regarding people that we already know was the thing that saved that route.

 

Mio route was really nice start (

is that 'this' Mio, or 'that' Mio? I seriously rewatched ending of Mio route in Iroseka just to see if she said 私 or あたし in that one scene

). Part with

Tooru

was quite nice as well. Unfortunately ending killed that route a bit for me.

Seriously, Yuuma turned on TV first time from many months and miracly on the channel that was on appeared Tooru's mother, doing some ridiculous things. I really had to take down headset and then continue reading this scene, because I couldn't stand listening the crap that she was talking.

 

Kana route was ok I guess, but I felt it was really to long for the little it had to tell. Also scene with Ayumu in 'ghost world' was quite ridiculous.

 

Ai route was quite nice. Finally it didn't feel so dragged as some of previous routes being more compact set of scenes. Good amount af plot here, but somehow I didn't really 'felt' that route, thats why while I don't really see any big problems it was just 'nice' for me.

 

And finally true Shinku route. Up to about half (?), to the moment when

Shinku died

I really liked and felt it, even if the plot was a bit slow. Unfortunately after that I began to feel, that it was starting dragging a bit. It's one thing when plot goes slow at the beginning, when you know that there is much history to tell left, that will eventually kicks off, other thing is just waiting for ending that somehow can't arrive. It's not a serous complain, I still really REALLY liked that rute and felt it a lot, it was just really good, not amazing as I was hoping for.

 

I decided to give it a rating of 9/10, but I really see why someone could give it less. If I had to rate routes individually it probably would be like 8,5,7,7,6,7,9 (taking the order of routes in my post), but for me it was just tale about Shinku and Yuuma, other girls being just a bonus. Also many people give Ever 17 very high rates because of final route, even if all of the rest really wasn't that good, so I hope that my rating here can be also forgiven

 

Just 2 thoughts at the end.

 

Why was Sora name hidden from us up to the very end? Does that name have some significance I didn't get? I seriously believed that her name will be Hikari - that would be a nice touch, but... Sora? Also, Favorite, you tease. You all the time called her 青空の少女 to hide her name from us, but after all her name was 青空

I don't know why, but everytime there was some mention about Shinku as a mother and neither of her or Sora were shown on screen I catch myself that I was imagining Nagisa from Clannad. Really, even after I realized it I couldn't shake of that image from my mind

I think my favorite part of the Amane route is how Makina and Sachi both get increasingly more and more filthy as time goes on. It gets so utterly absurd and I couldn't help myself from laughing out loud constantly. Especially at Makina's outbursts.

Just finished Majikoi.  Chris definitely had the best route.  The others just didn't click.  I prefer routes that manage to mix the H-Scenes into the story, and Chris's was the only one that did it.  The others were like "Oh hey, now that the problem is over, lets fuck!" and it completely screws the pacing.

I finally finished Yume Miru Kusuri ~~ I can see why Ken-kun liked it so much I pretty much teared up/shed tears at all of the endings. Some of the routes I felt like there was to much sex and even stopped reading for a while because I was tired of it but I prevailed! Nekoko > Mizuka > Aeka. At first I thought Nekoko's route was going to be my least favorite but that ending completely made up for it. Mizuka's route would have been my favorite (that ending has to be one of my favorites) but 

them going to China for a night realllllly killed the mood for me.

Aeka's was pretty well balanced as far as I could tell and the ending was happy. 

 

Now it is time to start another! I have 40+ VN's downloaded so time to choose.

Oh, its going to be fun.  I'm the type of person who plays games until I've overexerted myself to where I can't concentrate or am seeing doubles or my eyes intermittently close for minutes on end before I realize it.  With this game being the thing that I've last interacted with, it's going to be the most prominent thing appearing in my hallucinations before going to sleep.
