Well, this is something I've always wanted.
But now that I know it exists, I'm too afraid to go ahead with it, given the tone of the original by the end. I wonder why I have such a bias against fanworks when I make fanworks myself.
-
Short VN, how scary.
But it did seem to be a surprisingly high fidelity VN. I have mild interest, but I also have a general aversion to 'serious things happen', so I'm not jumping on this right away. -

The one thing that I find rather disturbing is that the playthrough didn't become a thing. I'll take the playlist with that never-finished OELVN, but that amount of content feels highly inadequate.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean here.
I think I recorded like 20 minutes of the game, but it was grating on my voice, and I used a grating voice for the main character, so it'd be enjoyable for no one. -

Heh, that's a randomly accurate pun for a review that somehow never wanted to turn out readable and went through an unreasonable number of edits, which, as it always is with over-edited things, only partially helped with anything. ;p For the games themselves, they are really nice when you need something chill and fluffy. And the author seems to be improving with every game, so I'm actually quite interested in how the newest part turns out.
Oh, and I managed to butcher Yvin's name in the weirdest possible way... Really, this post just didn't like me. Well, still thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it! At least with next week's review, I'm very satisfied with how it turned out and it will be something quite unusual. :3
I was rummaging through some files on my computer and found this from last year:
Sharing it since I can. Have a that.

Thank you so much for these posts.
Some of the better experiences I've had were shorter, more compact or experimental games like these, and yet I still don't put any effort into looking for them. I remain too focused on longer experiences that let me immerse myself in the character interactions for hours. So, thank you for highlighting these! -

I think I fixed it. How does it look now?
It looks just dandy.

Yeah I know, how do I fix that?
Next to the spoiler symbol (looks like an eye) there's a remove formatting symbol (looks like an eraser). Selecting affected areas and removing formatting will make it so it conforms with the default background, however, it also removes all other formatting, such as text size, which would need to be redone.
-
Formatting is completely messed up on a white background.

Lack of proper romance!?!? Absolutely disgusting.
Look at me just skimming those bullet points.

Liberation Day was released in Japan along with Mark of Arcadius, as a single package. When I wrote this, admittedly some time ago, I was under the impression that the extreme weebness of SSS was once more a way to turn it into an export product on a later date, but I guess their approach is more about pandering to actual weebs with the over-the-top Japanese stylization. Maybe I was giving them more credit then they deserved in this respect, but I wouldn't be that surprised to see the JP version pop up at some point. :>
It's certainly in the cards, if they can work with Japanese closely enough to write/translate the script for Liberation Day.

"a rare attempt at expanding to the Japanese market (at least successful enough that the games’ developer, Love in Space, apparently works on making their upcoming title, JP-idol themed Shining Song Starnova, into another export product, with Japanese voice acting and other elements rarely seen in western-produced VNs). "
I found this weird when I first read it, for I'd always been under the impression that Love in Space's titles were exclusive to the west. After checking it out, though, it appears Liberation Day has a Japanese version. Mask of Arcadius seems to have something in Japanese too, I think, but I don't believe any other of their products are available in Japanese, including Starnova.

I had no idea it was common knowledge my permissions were traditionally messed up.
Most concerning, this information leakage.Incidentally, my random playlist happened to start playing https://youtu.be/wuoN9MesbW0 just as I was reading the culprit's name. I would feel this is quite a coincidence if my random playlist were not packed full of ace attorney tracks.

Haven't read this post, but I've saved it. I saw a few titles I haven't yet looked into, so I'll definitely read this all nice and proper when I finally feel like reading manga once again.

We haven't even discussed the depth of the gameplay yet. There's somewhere near 100 different unit types, each of which can be further customized with game-changing additional skills and equipment. Beyond that, certain units have heavy synergies within a team. These synergies encourage making multiple teams each with a focus on a particular race. There are also bonuses for quick mission clears that unlock higher-tier equipment, as well as drop-increasing skills and items that further increase potential gains. In addition, higher difficulties grant much better equipment drops, adding incentive to challenge yourself. It's a very well-designed system of incentives.
Realise that I am just as likely to start skipping the gameplay if it doesn't grab me intensely or if it proves too time consuming.
Thankfully, I hear the game is fine with me doing that.
-
I am genuinely hyped. It's actually quite strange, considering how much content I am bound to skip.
-
Okay. And what would a Romance-SoL lover think about it?
-
My biggest regret with this game is, perhaps, that most plotpoints go nowhere. Spoilers follow.
SpoilerIn a way, it is fitting. The end conclusion to the situation was the two of them running away from it all.
However, I am a person who wants things to turn out well. I wanted Constance to find the help she seeks, or for the two older maids to get their just desserts. Alas, the very realism of the plot up till that point would not help in giving me my desired good ending.

It is hard to say... the line between neutral and positive is pretty much composed of ignorance. If you are ignorant of localization issues, you don't have a reason to care in the first place. Neutrals are more 'I know but I don't care that much' types.
Going by these standards then I'm probably Neutral in general, yeah...
-
Hmm... I wonder which fits me more? Positive or Neutral?
I'd say Positive because I see myself as someone who likes everything, but I don't know. -

Good luck on the route section, from what I have heard the whole middle section of going from "Friends to Lovers" is pointless, no matter what you select the outcome will be the same. But also heard each route is nicely done once you get past the middle "Branching" point.
I've been making a walkthrough as I go, and this is how it looks right now:
You use the talk choices to gain affection with the girl of your choosing. Once you get enough, you unlock a scene with her. Rinse and repeat until you finally lock yourself into her route.
In the meanwhile, there's also a 'common route' thingie where it just plays random daily life scenes as long as you don't lock yourself into a route. These don't reflect any of those choices or girl-specific scenes, since they're more of a generic common route. But that's fine. They're just filler.

Hm. I'm actually glad to hear this. I really might try it, then.
That said, I have Steam Prison to get through. This forum's lacking in posts about japanese otome games lately.
