Really? I thought that Mikandi dug their own grave, as in, their shady antics with this game will make people distrust future releases. Much in a MoeNovel way.

We need to dissociate here between the VN proper and the terrible translation.
Likewise I like Konosora as a VN a lot, it definitely didn't deserve the butchering. Konosora's H scenes were probably cookie-cutter as VNDB suggests, but its slice of life, the characters and their chemistry are pretty good. The whole VN gives off a cozy impression.
However shit happened and fate conspired to bring us these VNs in a terrible state.

If the TL is improved I will consider getting the game, even if it will cost me a fortune because of the extra 18+ patch sold separately. The game definitely seems worth it.
For the moment I'll leave sleeping dogs lie. There are lots of other games that deserve more to be supported.

EDIT: Right now there is a new pass being made to the translation, so there is hope after all.
For more details, check out the game's kickstarter page.

I know there are already several posts talking about the translation of this game on the forum, but some people might have missed them, as the bulk of the posts were made some time ago, so I figured a new thread might be in order, now that the game is out for everyone.

I have been reading the game for about 2 hours now, comparing the JP lines to the English translations as I read. This translation is very literal, to the point where the English sentences often make little to no sense. The biggest issue seems to be that the translator transliterated everything. It seems like he/she just looked at the Japanese line, and word by word, translated everything directly into an English sentence as is, without any re-wording, giving no thought to how the line would flow in English. And the result is... terrible. From what I can tell, the translator has not made any rookie JP mistakes, like mistaking particles etc, (though keep in mind I could only go by the voiced lines and not the narrated ones, as I do not have the Japanese script in front of me.) That being said, an "accurate" translation doesn't really mean much when the English is barely comprehensible as a result.
A few examples of what you will see in the translation: (Decay also posted some examples last month, which you can see here.)
    Screenshots:
You also have things like this:

This is an official localization, and yet it reads like a bad fan TL. We should not be okay with this. Many of us paid money for this.
From what I can tell, the translation's accuracy is not the issue, but the translator's lack of English knowledge is. A proper editing pass and some QCing could fix 90% of the issues in this translation. We should all, (in a calm manner, of course,) ask Mikandi to do something about this. Whether they will actually listen to us or not is hard to say, but I'd like to think they will. Their PR has been on point through the entire campaign, (they were logged into this forum just last night, showing that they are checking the threads about their game frequently) and if enough people voice their complaints about the translation, I hope they will look into doing something about it.
Tweet them, comment on their kickstarter page if you are a backer or post on their website. Make your stance on the TL known. If one person complains, nothing will happen, but if everyone does, it's going to be hard for Mikandi to ignore us. With their prevoiusly open attitude towards the community, I'd like to think they will listen.
So, for the moment, my recommendation is that you do not buy this game. Wait and see if they will do something about our concerns first. Hopefully they will listen and do something about the TL. If you buy the game now in its current state, just be warned: it's not very good, and you might come to regret your decision.

Please don't talk about piracy. I regret that my previous post caused this.
It was only a comment to give a thought about a possible solution to this deadlock. Even as much as sharing the patch is illegal.

Please buy your visual novels. If you don't want to pay a lot (and who does?), buy them during sales. More piracy means less titles licensed.

I don't understand what is up with the 18+ patch. They clearly stated several times that they are releasing it for free for everyone, the moment the game comes out.
And yet, here we are, only a few people got the patch, and it's locked behind a password?
(I'm a backer, but I didn't even get it. It seems like only backers of a certain tier + got the patch.)

They have been saying the patch will be free since last year:

@MiKandi Japan can you guys give us some info on what is going on here? ...

Started reading Steins;Gate 0, only just a couple of hours in. I was surprised how the first scene with the amadeus really gave me a sad feeling, even though I know this is set on the beta line.

I seem to lack any desire to continue reading the Nekopara I downloaded ages ago. It's not that I hate it, it's just that I'm not interested enough to start reading it again. For that reason and some others I decided to just get a new VN to read and downloaded Dies Iraes.
I've read it until about chapter 4 and so far it's quite enjoyable. The soundtrack and art aren't really to my taste for some reason, but imo they aren't bad by any means, just not exactly to my taste. My opinion may change as I keep reading it tho, and I'm enjoying the experience.
I'm also downloading Majikoi. I'll probably start reading it after finishing Dies Iraes's Common Route because I'm too broke right now to buy the DLCs right away.

By the way there's a trick to getting Japanese locale within wine apps, but you have to start it on the command line or create a shortcut of sorts somewhere that calls it.
LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine app.exe where app.exe is the game's executable filename.

As for getting videos to play within visual novels under wine, you need to use winetricks to install ffdshow, quartz and wmp9. When ffdshow installs and the configuration window comes up, you have to enable mpeg1 playback from it which is disabled by default (many VNs use mpeg1 for video).

You can use Linux as a powerful base system. It has niceties not available in Windows, like virtual desktops, THE CONSOLE, software manager (installing software is dead easy), etc.
You'll still need Windows software (those VNs), so you have Wine or, as an alternative to VMWare, VirtualBox, which is easy to use and never gave me a problem. I don't know about the VNs that need Japanese locale and that's a problem, but with virtual machine you can do it. However I played Yume Miru Kusuri on a Linux Mint with Wine back in 2015 and it never gave a problem.
If you like Mint I'd suggest keeping with it. It's one of the best distros and the most popular.
Linux Mint supports Steam on its repositories, BUT not every game available for Windows is available for Linux. So I guess you'll be using your virtual machine a lot and why Linux then?
Linux gaming works better with GOG, because you can switch to a native Linux version of the game (I don't know though if they like more Red Hat-based or Debian-based).
Photoshop is a problem, I haven't tested it but I hear it's one of the last bulwarks of proprietary software still not available for Linux.

Hello everyone! So once a week I will be posting a challenge; either watch the anime series I post or the movie, or both.

If you end up watching the anime series and stop watching it before the fifth episode you will be put on a naughty list.

How do you get off the naughty list? By finishing the anime, or by watching the next anime I give out.

However if you stop watching the series at episode five you won't be punished for it. (I hope you are all honest here!).

Okarin reacted to Narcosis in Any VN recommendations that will run on my specs
You don't really need anything more than a dual core CPU (aside from intel Atom CPU's, they're weak), 2GB's of RAM and any decent mid-grade/budget gaming GPU, no matter how old and you can run any vn with ease, e-mote/live2d included. Even the new vn's running e-mote should be running smoothly, as long as you're using a modern operating system and your gpu drivers are up to date. W7 gives a significant performance boost over older systems thanks to it's updated driver database and better hardware management.
I think the oldest PC I tried running Tenkiame on had an old Pentium D processor and some mid-grade radeon GPU back from it's period and even though it took considerably longer to load, it ran the game smoothly, even though transitions between scenes had a slight delay, due to longer memory loading times.
E-mote is actually very lightweight and will run without issues on newest and older integrated GPU's, unless you're trying to force improve visual quality through driver settings. Obviously, you have to remember about one thing - as much as it's possible to run 1080p with W7 on older specs due to driver updates, older GPU's weren't meant to ever run at these resolutions; trying to run modern games in 1080p on old GPU's will result in considerable performance drops. Besides, most of these vn's are 720p by default, so you're still upscaling their graphics for nothing.
