  1. I'm sure it can, like any other mediums. Personally, while it never makes me feel like a completely different person, it does change some of my outlooks in life. More frequently though, rather than "change", it makes me conscious of some views I've always had, enriched it and brought it to the surface. The most significant for me is probably The House in Fata Morgana. There are a lot of things I like about the VN, but one idea that really affected me was that "you are what you do" is not always...accurate. Sure, whatever you do usually creates everyone else's opinion of you, and a different person might have done things differently in the same circumstances, but understanding someone is not so simple. What is of equal importance is the reasons someone do something: their motives, emotional condition, and the circumstances they are put into. There are better ways of wording it, I'm sure (the best way to get the idea is by reading the VN itself), but that's the gist of it.
  2. It's usually one of the things that make me consider whether or not to pick up a VN, although when I've started reading and enjoying it, it doesn't matter that much. That being said, it can definitely enhance the experience significantly. One that comes to mind is Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. I read and enjoyed it before the voice patch came out. But it was not until I reread it with the voice patch (including the minigames) that I gleefully laughed like a madman every 5 minutes. Of course, the quality of the voice acting is crucial, but since I usually read major and well-regarded titles, the VA is usually pretty good or at least ok.
  3. Isn't it supposed to be Lamian / La Mian ? Genuine Lamian is indeed pretty delicious. Edit: Nvm they're different.
  4. Aren't they only one year (or two, I don't really remember) younger than the MC? And I highly doubt the MC is 13-14... They do look young though.
  5. Interesting. I just checked, and it's similar (without the "to" of course). Thanks for clearing that up and making listening to it a lot less painful.
  6. I've been reading Umineko these past few weeks, only chapter 7 and 8 left, but I decided to take a break. So far it's a very good read. My main complaint is uhhhh.... "BEATORICHEEEEEE". Seriously, how they pronounce other western names is not perfect, but the never ending BEATORICHE definitely takes the cake. For now, I'm rereading parts of Grisaia no Kajitsu and Grisaia no Meikyuu because I just feel like it. I'll probably go back to Umineko when holiday begins.
  7. Very true. The supernatural element is pretty hard to swallow (even if everything else in Grisaia isn't exactly realistic). The route itself is interesting if you get past it tho, and yes, after reading her route (and playing her story in Meikyuu), I found no difficulty in seeing how she could be a fan favorite. I kinda hated her at first (never too fond on stupid and loud characters myself), but now I love her to bits. I think it's a common opinion of Yumiko's route. I agree the route's not particularly exciting by itself, but I enjoyed it enough. Probably because that's the first route I read and Yumiko is my favorite girl. Her 'dere' is just too powerful. And I probably like her chemistry with Yuuji the most.
  8. Just finished DDLC recently. That was a really nice ride (that kinda robbed me of a few nights' good sleep, but worth it). Right now slowly rereading Fate/Hollow Ataraxia with the long-awaited voice patch. Not sure what to read next, probably Sharin no Kuni or Stein's;Gate (I've watched the anime, but perhaps it's time to ascend to the level of a primary).
  9. No willpower to make a detailed list, but here I go. In no particular order: - Kazami Yuuji (Grisaia) : he's badass, but above everything, I just really enjoy his humor and general thoughts. - "Maou" (G-Senjou no Maou) : his charisma and the way he plays around (while never truly losing to Haru). An absolutely despicable bastard who can still make me root for him. - Avenger / Angra Mainyu (Fate/Hollow Ataraxia) : I usually like characters who can make fun of anything (including/especially themselves), anywhere. His interaction with Bazett and relationship with Caren (all the World's Evils and a twisted priestess who is also the daughter of an even more twisted priest, what a joke) are interesting for me. Bonus points for having one of, if not, the most terrible life of any character I've ever known in popular media and how his summoning in the Third Holy Grail War basically doomed the next Holy Grail Wars before they even began. - Gilgamesh (Fate franchise) : he's an absolute douchebag, but a undeniably respectable douchebag. I actually hated him the first time I read FSN, but he grew on me bit by bit after seeing him other Fate works, such as Fate/Hollow Ataraxia and Fate/Extella, when his overall attitude is less hostile and his hostility aimed towards the antagonists (how he trash talked Archimedes in Fate/Extella is my favorite moment). An ancient overpowered troll king. - Assassin/Sasaki Kojirou (Fate/Stay Night) : a quiet and composed young man whose sheer swordsmanship made even Lancer hesitant to duel with him and Gilgamesh unwilling to play around with close combat. His mocking tone while remaining as cool and calm as ever is quite entertaining to watch. Also noteworthy is the fact that he pushed back Berserker despite having no way of hurting him and the massive pure power difference between them.
  10. First off, which anime do you refer to? There are : the first Fate/Stay Night by studio DEEN (which adapts the first route, Fate), Unlimited Blade Works movie by DEEN (which adapts the 2nd route, Unlimited Blade Works), Unlimited Blade Works TV series by Ufotable (same route with the previous, different studio), and the upcoming Heaven's Feel Movies by Ufotable (adapts the final route, Heaven's Feel). Overall, it's a significantly different experience, even if the plot is the same. There are a lot of worthwhile details to read that isn't shown or properly explained in the animes. One of the core differences is Shirou's monologue, which we can read in the VN, but isn't included in the animes. Without the monologues, we can't properly follow his line of thought and he just seems like your average shonen protagonist (which he isn't). This imo plays a huge part in his characterization and character development. There are a lot of other notable things that the animes haven't shown, and imo they all make the experience really worth it.
  11. -Fate/Hollow Ataraxia vs.....Hatoful Boyfriend.... -Majikoi vs....John Cena's.....Sexy High School Adventure... These are, in my humble opinion.... very interesting match ups.
  12. I seem to lack any desire to continue reading the Nekopara I downloaded ages ago. It's not that I hate it, it's just that I'm not interested enough to start reading it again. For that reason and some others I decided to just get a new VN to read and downloaded Dies Iraes. I've read it until about chapter 4 and so far it's quite enjoyable. The soundtrack and art aren't really to my taste for some reason, but imo they aren't bad by any means, just not exactly to my taste. My opinion may change as I keep reading it tho, and I'm enjoying the experience. I'm also downloading Majikoi. I'll probably start reading it after finishing Dies Iraes's Common Route because I'm too broke right now to buy the DLCs right away.
  13. Honestly, I only found out about this VN a few days ago when somebody mentioned it somewhere, so I don't think the hype would affect me much. I have read some of it (until about chapter 4). For now I don't think I'm extremely into it, but it's still very interesting. The art looks fine. The music isn't really to my taste, but I don't think it's bad by any means. So far I'm enjoying the experience, and I'll see if buying the DLCs are worth it after finishing the common route. It feels a bit like Fate, and considering I'm a big fan of Fate, I'm guessing I'll get hooked on this one soon enough.
  14. I've finished Muv Luv Alternative and The House in Fata Morgana. Muv Luv didn't disappoint me and I enjoyed The House in Fata Morgana much more than I thought I would. I'm not sure what to read next. I guess I have a few VNs I've downloaded in the past but never read. Let's see....uhh...it's Nekopara.
  15. I've finished Muv Luv Extra/Unlimited (most of them, I didn't read all of the routes), and have started reading Alternative. The Engrish spoken in Alternative is...godly.
