I'll give it a go then! I've been interested in this VN for quite a while, but I've also been a bit put off because there's supposedly some pretty extreme content in it. Euphoria disturbed me less than I thought it would though, so hopefully I'll be fine in this case as well.

Clock Up makes some brilliant games. Not sure what you mean with "every Clock Up game", as only a small handful is localized, and from what I've heard, they all do pretty darn well.
Maggot Baits has a legit good story. It's being hyped up for a reason. I think it's going to sell very well, like Euphoria seemingly did. Not only is the story good, but it also has stunning art, a seriously stellar OST, and the writing, while very disgusting at times, is great. It's overall just an objectively good game. Of course, the extreme content will make it difficult to stomach for your standard reader, and I'd personally recommend you just skip it if you can't take extreme shit, as lots of it is story related.
But despite being like ten steps above Euphoria in terms of extreme, I still think lots of people will buy it, even if only out of curiosity. Of course, I also imagine a lot of those people will regret it pretty fast once they realize just how extreme the game is, but... unless they literally ask for a refund that won't impact sales, lol.
^ See what I posted above. Tl;dr, yes, the story is great.

Bought it right after work, was pleasantly surprised the the sol press store wasn't flagged as a fraud attempt by my bank. Still had the same downloading problems that I have for EVERY localizer website, but whatever. Finally finished downloading after half a day, patched, and start playing for a few hours. Than I noticed a disturbing lack of "wholesome" content.
Turns out the solpress version's patch doesn't work correctly, yet.

Or just... buy it on JAST and skip the need for a patch.

Dergonu got a reaction from Azu in Shi ni Iku Kimi, Yakata ni Mebuku Zouo - translation project
This project is currently on hiatus. We had two translators, myself and someone else. After I stepped down for a bit to work on other things, the other guy said he would continue the project, but he simply vanished off the face of the earth shortly after, so... that leaves me as the only guy on this project, and, well, I'm not working on it at the moment. Which means it's on hiatus.
I will make an update on this thread, should I ever decide to continue the translation. (I do want to, of course, but I have no idea when it would be possible for me to get back to translating this. It probably won't happen for quite some time, sadly.)
Thanks for bumping this though. Reminded me I needed to move this thread into the TL project archive sub forum.

I know it may sound stupid but I got really emotionally attached with Higurashi since early age, I remember playing the VN back when I was in 5th grade. I was a loner and got bullied cause I was a fat kid (I was about to grow 10 cm tall in one summer) so I was super lonely. I still remember how warm it made me feel when I was watching the kids playing and having fun with their everyday life on Hinamizawa. So, I imagined myself and would draw all over my books about me hanging out with the gang. I was about Satoko's and Rika's age and I was looking up to Mion, Rena and Keiichi. It feels so weird being older than them now..I wonder, would they be proud of me on how I grew up? I'm more outgoing and I'm on a lot of groups now..but it may sound pathetic but the warmth I felt when reading higurashi, I never got it from anyone. I wish I would relive my childhood so I could feel this pure warmth somehow.

It has had some pretty incredible effects on my life. For starters, it got me my job. Had I not started reading VNs I probably would never have started learning Japanese, and I certainly wouldn't have thought of starting up a fan translation, which is what led me into full-time translation. I realize now translating has always been my dream job, I just never knew it, heh.
It also got me to Japan. Sitting in my new Japanese apartment typing this right now, actually. Once again I never would have thought much about going here, let alone moving here, had it not been for VNs.
And of course, it has introduced me to so many great people, both online and in real. I met so many great people at uni, which I started to study Japanese as a result of my interest in VNs, and of course, I've met tons of great people in online communities like this, discord, etc, and through work and whatnot.
So overall VNs have affected my life very positively, and I don't know where I would be today without them, honestly.

Outside the more direct things like being entertained or having a waifu/husbando or whatever.
It can be positive or negative influences.
So I've been thinking of why I have such a high attachment to VNs as a whole compared to others. Thinking all the things I got and accomplished through VNs made me realize how much VNs affected my life:
A lot of my online voice chat experience has been through online visual novel fans My closest online group of friends was through VNs, sometimes I talk to them more than my IRL friends through voice chat In general these days, the discords I mostly hang around are VN-related and the ones I'm active in go at the right speed in terms of activity for me. Visual Novels have become the major reason I even go to Anime Convention these days (mostly Anime Expo since I live an hour away). Meeting at least 1 new person at an anime con that has VN stuff has become a personal goal of mine. Speaking of which, rooming with fellow VN fans/industry people at a hotel for a con was something I did was really cool And meeting someone who I can actually cosplay VN characters is something I never thought would happen. I'm not usually a big cosplayer. I've even done my own visual novel panel at smaller conventions before. I've never done a panel at a con otherwise. I've been a major cohost (and not just a guest) of a podcast through VNs, something I never thought I'd ever actually do Visual Novels have become around half (if not more) the reason and inspiration for me actually studying Japanese. 1 year so far and still going strong. I've been on a (fan)TL project as QC (Konosora Retranslation). Never thought I'd be on a project like that for anything. Of course on the other hand...
My attachment to 2D porn has probably increased due to VNs (though some may view this as good) I've kinda started comparing other media to how well VNs do certain things I know have more reasons/excuses to stay inside my house, especially with how long VNs are.

This does exist, though not translated, sadly. Seisai no Resonance is like this. You play as the new girl who just transferred into an all-girls school, and you can choose from 5 main heroines, as well as three side heroines with short extra routes. (Just a scene or two each, but still nice.) It also has really good story.
It's my favorite yuri title to date, and the only one I'm aware of that takes a standard eroge style route system, but makes it yuri.

Dergonu got a reaction from Plk_Lesiak in What are your thoughts on shared universe in visual novel?
I have been making some blog posts on one series that does this recently, Tinkerbell's "Aojiru verse." I think one thing that is key is shared staff across the games, especially writing staff. It's common for each game to have a short summary of what has transpired in previous games so that you can start anywhere in the series, though it's not recommended to jump into the middle of the franchise. Routes and choices helps, as you can do a lot with the story that does not have to get picked up in the next installment. For In'Youchuu-games that are a part of the Aojiru verse-there is always one canon ending, and many branches which aren't considered canon in the next game. This way it won't be as hard to keep things consistent in the sequel(s).  That is one strength of visual novels, you don't need to make everything that transpires in the game "canon" to the shared universe.

Note that there is no all ages version and Steam and Denpasoft both have identical uncut, demosaiced releases. That means you'll need the right config toggles in Steam before they'll let you see it exists. Pick it up with a 10% launch discount on either store:
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1100800/I_Walk_Among_Zombies_Vol_2/ Denpasoft: https://denpasoft.com/collections/newest-releases/products/i-walk-among-zombies-vol-2 The new heroine in this one is really cool, and as with volume 1, the volume 2 is one part post-apocalyptic survival horror one part human drama. This time, I'd say, with a little more emphasis on the "human" angle, as Yuusuke slowly starts to become a little less of a clod.

There's a good reason for that BTW. Technical limitations for traditional choose your own adventures books were massive. You can observe that in detail with Hanako Games' Sword Daughter, which is a direct adaptation of a classic gamebook. Every path ends up being really short and shallow, as you could only include that much text on a physical book without making it an awful experience. The comparison to "proper" VNs, that weren't affected by such limitations, proved pretty devastating...

For me one major factor is the sexual content. I think it's cool to have a medium actually include proper H-scenes into the storytelling. It lets VNs do a lot of things with mature content other mediums can't, at least not in such detail. And, while it's not really a very deep reason, I have to be blunt, when I see a hot heroine it's nice knowing: I won't have to rely on fanart, I can probably bang her in the canon story. Wohoo.

Never said they should stop production. I think this is in bad taste and wouldn’t want to back it myself for that reason. They are free to make whatever they want, though, even if it does make people go "but why though?" That’s the beauty of free speech, I guess.

Dergonu got a reaction from Swim Swim in To All VN Licensors and Publishers - Why We Want R18 Patches For Our Games
One thing to note about this is that in Japan, console versions are always made AFTER the PC release, and often serves as a secondary platform to play the games on, after people have already read the 18+ version on PC. With the all-ages version being the only version available in the west, western consumers don't have that choice. So, the "place" the console version has in Japan is somewhat different compared to the western one.
