It actually is, I was one of the first to say it'd be trash like the rest have been but ever since, I've actually played it and  enjoyed  the dungeon crawler gameplay.
I think that it is like @Dergonu said and they've improved, while they still have a lot of flaws to fix and things to improve we can't deny that they've gotten better with this latest instalment of their "series".

Honestly? No.
The thing with VN lets plays in specific is that it's essentially just someone reading a story to you, and I'd much rather just read the story myself at my own pace without someone's voice over it.
I understand some people might enjoy it, but i simply can't get into it. And the fact tons of Lets Players are just people who overreact to shit, it's even more unbearable. I don't need to hear someone to go "WTF Japan L0lz" 100 times.
Perhaps if the person speaking is someone that's trying to provide INTERESTING commentary that adds something to the story and not just lulz and memes i could watch it, but if it's like Lost Pause, I'd rather stab my eyes and ears with forks.

Not really. I feel like most people who do like VNs are more likely to be anime fans than anything else... Plus there's the light novel crowd (who tend to be gigantic when added up - same thing with manga, really. They can get really out of hand.)  
VNs can appeal to anime watchers through anime porn and the type of romance that can't really go on TV 
It also lets you know characters before using H scenes for erotic purposes, which provides the ultimate type of erotica for some people. 
You might or might not argue that's why we're a niche and that VNs should focus on reaching other audiences... But if they stop marketing towards that niche I'll no longer have an interest in VNs, so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Not a fan of the communitie's attitude towards requests. I get it, no one is expected to translate anything for anyone, but at least have more tact. Especially to those new to the site. Also, perhaps a thread could be created where a poll could be taken to see which titles people would like to see translated. Nothing has to come from it, but perhaps a translator may see it and consider it. To OP: Your best bet is to ask Mangagamer or Jast. I wouldn't bother with Sekai tho.

While I don't buy into most of the core concepts that this article relies upon (and seems to assume are true without providing support), I can certainly relate to this feeling it describes as 'elevation'. Any anime with parents who trust or treat their children gently tends to make my heart metaphorically smile, be the reason Freudian or not. Sawako's parents in Kimi ni Todoke and Nagisa's parents in Clannad had that effect on me.
A bit more than a year ago my sister had a child and had I not been inspired by characters like the ones I mentioned, I don't think I would've been able to build the resolve to be the uncle I want to be. Hopefully I can be an emotional support when things are dark and cheer on when everything is well.

It's fantastic.

Well I think personally that Visual Novel medium is much better compared to anime medium.
They are much less ruled by tropes, are more adventurous (I'm looking at you doujinge and Darekoi), and don't always revert back to standard cookie-cutter formula.
Visual novel communities are also less cancerous, more allowing and welcoming.

Me:
The main reason I play a Visual Novel is because of the art. If there's a waifu material girl in the said Visual Novel, and she's one of the main heroines that you can do H with, then I'll definitely play it. 
The second main reason is story and character. I mostly play utsuge and nakige, which purpose is to make players get emotionally attached to the character in the VN, and eventually leading the player to an emotional breakdown in the end. So that kind of storyline is of great importance to me.

I think this is something that happens to almost all of us at least once. A lot of users here stumbled upon the VN genre completely on accident even. 
If I had to point out the most random story, I'd say it was when I was browsing /h/ a few years ago and found some Katawa Shoujo CGs with Emi and thought having sex with crippled girls seems like a cool game idea this looks like a really good game, and then I found out the title and played it and fell in love with it, even though Emi didn't end up being the best as I initially expected and Hanako won me over.

^Aight, so, to get Santa's (the big man himself) H-scene, you first gotta get Santa's (one of the many daughters of the big man in the red suit) H-scene, right?

Translation check/proofread is when usually a second translator checks for any mistakes in translation,  it is usually done after an editing because of an possibility of editing changing some lines and making some mistake in translation itself while making it sound better in English.
Quality checking is when a second editor checks for quality of editing.
In fan translation those two are often done at a same time by a single person.
Editing is a processes of fixing spelling/grammar mistakes and making it sound better in English.
Translating is well translating.
Hacking is a processes of extracting a script/s from a game and then ones translation and everything else is done putting it back in a game and creating a patch.
Image editing is a processes of editing text in photos and CGs and replacing Japanese text with an English.
Not all fan translation groups do everything true and an absolute min is hacking and translating true there are even times when there is only translating too and translation is distributed as a text that you can read while playing a game.
This is how processes goes when everything is done:
Hacking>Translating>Editing>QC=TC>Hacking,  with Image editing anywhere in between Hacking. There are some cases where TC is done before editing true this is not a very good thing to do. If TC and QC are done separately it completely depends from group to group witch is done first depending on whatever you put more importance on conveying an original meaning or the way it sounds in English, if former TC is left for last if latter QC is.
Ofcourse you won't w8 for one processes to be done completely for another to start (With exception of hacking) and usually it is like when translator does some number of lines he sends them further to editor while continuing translation, editor does the same as well as QC & TC. The exception is when a single person is doing multiple jobs, such as Translating and TC or Editing and QC in that case you can't send it further and continue your job as the person who is suppose to be further is still doing something else or it is you yourself. Or in cases where one person is doing everything then s/he is just going to w8 to be done with one process to start another.

I just type stuff in English and then smart people put it in the game.
