The beta paths were some that were leaked (or something) without 4LS wanting them to be. The creators are pretty iffy about them being played, and any mention of them on the KS forums are a pretty good way of getting a ban.
I went Emi -> Lilly -> Hanako -> Rin -> Shizune, but I'd say leave Rin for last as her route is the best. Still, Emi bestgirl.
Seriously struggling with Amane's route on Grisaia. SO. MUCH. SEX.

As a casual review reader and someone (now previously) interested in this game, I'd say your review was excellent. Well written, covered the key points and interesting at the same time so... nice one

It's a bad time for OELVNs, it seems... This is a particularly awful one.

The only VN that has really left a sizeable impact on me would be Katawa Shoujo. Whether it was because it was my first or because I was in a shit place when I read it, I don't know, but I distinctly remembered reading it and being almost incapacitated for days, before helping me get my shit back together. It got me into running and helped me gain some direction in my life... which I've since lost again, but never mind.
Reading Grisaia is making me want to get back into running though.

Interesting you should ask, since the guy who started this topic was a bit of a mentor for me. Anyway, I've been self studying Japanese for around a year now. The way I studied was by learning the grammar (Tae Kim Grammar is a great guide), and then actually reading VNs with dictionary software. I still have a lot to learn, but my Japanese is now at the point when I can recognize most grammar (so long as it isn't complex/uncommon stuff). Words often get repeated, so you will naturally gain a vocabulary the more you read. Although, I've also taken to using flashcards as well. There are all sorts of methods on how you can efficiently retain vocab and new grammar you learn. But ultimately the most important thing to do is simply to expose yourself to the language (in other words read a lot with dictionaries and grammar guides to help you, until you eventually become less reliant on them).

I'm currently procrastinating to ever-living fuck in the midst of chain reading and essay writing so this would probably be the worst thing right now, but I'll admit even though I generally don't like MOBA's it looks pretty interesting. Might give it a go in a few days.

    Day One
Dear Fuwa, today was somewhat uneventful. I didn't get robbed, and I didn't get my kidney stolen in my sleep. I have to wonder..maybe i'm not good enough to be robbed? Maybe I have bad kidneys that those black market organ stealer's wouldn't want? Probably something not worth dwelling on. Anyhow, I basically spent the whole day on Youtube and in several Skype groups, I was watching a ton of these super disturbing videos of creepy real (supposedly) 911 calls and other disturbing stories of attempted kidnappings, strangers living in someones basement, etc. Which (who would have guessed) spiked my paranoia through the roof and I found myself hearing every little sound in my house, and cautiously looking out the window whenever my dogs barked Oh, I've also been playing Million Arthur 2 and Soccer Spirits on the side all day. I tried messaging a few friends to see if they wanted to play something, but like usual they are either playing with other people or just don't want to play anything with me. I also drank a Red Bull and at a crap ton of candy from this huge bag of candy I got before they left on their trip, so my heartbeat is probably a bit faster than it should be, but if I don't think about it it probably won't bother me. Welp, i'm going to go feed my dogs and either sleep, lurk on Fuwa, watch some anime (random recommendations would be great), and freeze to death because it's ridiculously cold right now and my room only has two temperature settings, Antarctica and Hell. Hope this isn't too boring, thanks for listening

AaronIsCrunchy reacted to Nosebleed in Goat Simulator - Moe Version (SP)
Now that I'm not on a mobile device, here's a little rant on this stupidity. This also goes for 99% of "simulator games" out there.
The whole "simulator" trend was started by one game, and that game is Surgeon Simulator. The point of Surgeon Simulator was to be a joke, a parody of its title, by throwing you into a ridiculous situation where you're suppose to operate on a patient using really wonky controls and dealing with crazy physics. So you weren't really simulating what being a real surgeon was like, and that was the whole gag.
Why was Surgeon Simulator a success though? While there are different opinions, I personally think we can attribute the success to a few factors.
First off, Surgeon Simulator had a beginning and an end. You knew what you were supposed to do, you were rewarded for doing things, and that made you feel like you were making your time investment worthy.
Secondly, while the controls were pretty crazy, they still managed to let you do things as long as you got the hang of it. It was a learning experience for sure, but one that was made fun by all the different situations you had to adapt to.
Lastly, Surgeon Simulator actually felt like it had effort put into it. You see, while Surgeon Simulator did come off as a whacky physics game, the fact of the matter is this was very much intentional and the game was made to function correctly with these crazy physics. Yes, things might end up all over the place and you might break some stuff, but the game's core was built around making you work around these scenarios, and that's why it worked so damn well.
Fast forward a bit and you do have games that managed to grasp this working concept and mold it into something unique. Known examples would be "Goat Simulator" and "I Am Bread". Both these titles managed to create controlled chaos that was fun to play and gave its fanbase something to work towards.
So why am I saying all this? Basically to illustrate everything these recent simulator games are not doing.
What most developers of simulator games don't realise is that, what makes the good simulator games is their content, not lack thereof. We don't play goat simulator just because the physics are broken, we play Goat Simulator because on top of having weird physics, these broken physics are put in there to allow you to achieve things. Why is this Yohjo Simulator stupid? Because all it does is letting you play with the environment and then that's it, you've discovered everything the game has to offer. There's nothing to earn, nothing to work towards, nothing to gain, there's just broken physics in a sandbox environment.
But if I had to point out what I most hate about developers who make these kinds of games, its their sheer lack of self awareness, or rather, the way they pretend to be dumb and write off their poorly done game as "satire".
    From the Greenlight page:
You see this shit right here? This is the kind of horse hockey ideals that need to disappear from developing.
Writing off "there's no goal" does not automatically mean it will make your game a fun and creative experience. Minecraft has no explicit goal either, but you know all the content it provides allows you to do something fun. Yohjo Simulator though? Well you can kick walls around. Ain't that fucking fun?
"You can decide the goal for yourself". Well, sure, but what goal? There's absolutely nothing to do!
"It's the same as in life". Bruh, that's so deep, you should post that on /r/ShowerThoughts
And then the cherry on top, "this is an amazingly realistic simulator". Trying to pretend you're dumb, that you yourself understand your game is a joke and laughing it off in the description, shamelessly not caring about the fact you're attempting to sell people an empty box.
But Yohjo Simulator is just one of thousands of "simulator" games that haunt Steam Greenlight. Countless shameless "developers" attempt to patch together some assets in some random game engine to create some sandbox environment where you move around and interact with pointless shit. It never seems to end. For every good simulator game there's 10000 crappy ones. And why? Because people upvote it if you just sugarcoat it enough. Because if it's "memey" enough, it's probably going to get through, and it's a darn shame.
I beg of you, if you care about any form of quality control on games, please don't upvote this kind of crap.

Do not fear, one of my many agents already redirected me here!
I personally think we should appreciate the realism this game brings. The only possible reaction to a cute loli randomly destroying things through headbutts and kicks is to run and dance in your undies.
I give this a liquid Would let the loli headbutt me all day long / no number is high enough to avoid being easily surpassed by this masterpiece.
Silly Aaraon, this is the obvious and only logical evolution of Goat Simulator, not a parody! And with my job done:

AaronIsCrunchy got a reaction from CeruleanGamer in Obtaining VNs
The thing is, there's a lot of things that go into VN production that means that this price is, from a purely economic point of view, generally justifiable. For each VN, you need people that can draw - not just sprites, but other things too, like CGs, backgrounds and all the other odds and sods that make it look pretty. You then need someone to write it - many VNs are longer than some novels (20k and above words are pretty standard), and then you need someone to do music. And advertising. And voice acting, regularly. Many have opening themes from external artists too. If you're getting a translated VN, someone needs to translate that shit too. VNs are a comparatively niche market even in Japan (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong) so to pay for all of this, and to make enough of a profit going to have made it worth their time, I would say that $40 is a bloody good price.

So, my family has gone on vacation and I am left to fend for myself and watch over the dogs. Thing is, I've never been home alone for more than a couple days, and even then I was starting to go crazy. I'm 18 but still don't have my drivers license, so I can't really go anywhere (not that i'd go anywhere anyways, antisocial for life  ), and I always start to get paranoid when I'm home alone at night. Anyways, I have nothing better to do so I will make a diary of sorts detailing what goes on around here for the next ten days. It will probably be pretty boring, but I guess the tale of what goes through a paranoid teens head when left alone for a little over a week could be interesting. Anyways, stick around..or don't, as long as at least one person is enjoying it i'll keep it going. I'll be updating it every day, so if I don't..I'm probably sleeping  dead. Welp, i'm going to sleep now, lets hope I don't get robbed

Elf has been downsizing for over half a decade... this comes as no surprise to me.  The only surprise is that they actually released anything in the past few years.   Most of the companies from the early part of last decade and the late twentieth century disappeared long ago... and those that remain are usually those that branched out a lot (Will) or those that managed to gather a stronger, more varied audience (Key)...  this is opposed to Elf (the main company) which remained pretty much the same company, with the same audience... and though that audience was hardcore, it was also relatively small, even as VN company fan groups go.

The grimdark dystopian future is finally here, but it's not nearly as rad as we all thought it would be. thank you for the sheer amount of high quality novels you´ve produced over the past decades, which greatly helped me forming my own personality and therefore having influenced me in more than one way.
happiness, hatred, excessive love and hellish pain - i experienced them all thanks to your awesome stories.
Sayonara dear friend, the astounishing legacy of yours shalt not be forgotten.

edit: they weren´t just some major game developer, they simply were ELF, as their works pretty much shaped a whole generation + x of otakus & personally i always loved them for the overly beautiful plus detailed artwork of theirs, with even olden stuff still looking great and appealing - something many other works are lacking these days, which i´m truly going to miss.
