Is there a VN that left a big impact on you (posiitive or negative) ?

Sorry if something similar had been asked before.

I will start with myself, so far i can't think of a VN that left a huge positive impact, i liked Katawa Shoujo and the happy endings were good, but on average i usually play depressing/messed up VNs so i have only myself to blame here. :wafuu:

As for a VN that kinda messed me up for a while, that would be Narcissu, while i had a rough idea what that vn was about the ending caught me off guard and left me depressed for a few days, well mainly because a few years ago i had lost someone dear to me due to suicide, i wouldn't want anyone to go through what i had been through at that time. but if anything, Narcissu makes you truly appreciate life and why everyone should always accept the hardships in life, because there are always people whose only wish is just to stay alive...

what about you guys?

I'd have to say Air because it was the VN that completely changed my lifestyle forever. Now I play VNs a lot and I love Nakiges because of it. I also learned a lot from Grisaia as well cause of the many routes that teach you life lessons.

Air is definitely on my future list, I'm also reading Grisaia right now, Muchiru's route was amazing.

Boku no Kanojo wa Gatenkei. I love NTRs way before this but after some kind-hearted fuwa member recommended this to me, my hunt for great NTRs is now even more passionate than ever.

This game shoos all these full blown vanilla garbage out of the window. The first few hours is basically focusing on the heroine and the protagonist's lovey-dovey relationship so you can feel for the protagonist when he does experience NTR later on. The descriptions and presentations are fully detailed and there's no way you would think this is going to be a NTR vn at first. It follows quite a lengthy timeline too to show that a relationship requires some evolution over the years and not this unrealistic garbage of protagonists snatching girls in less than a week/month.

I say it's a good presentation of a NTR vn. You're suppose to feel like everything is amazing and nothing could possibly go wrong then wham! You are caught in a crossfire of heartfelt emotions. It's not a nukige as its main selling point is not about sex every 10 minutes or so but all the NTRs and rollercoaster emotional rides that you are about to get on.

The storywriter of Boku no Kanojo wa Gatenkei makes Clannad, Kanon, and all these nakiges look like amateur works. He makes it as if he's been in that situation before as some of them are quite shockingly realistic. I wish there was an English patch for this game so more people can play Elf's works and also be introduced the NTR genre more as it's not translated too often.... I won't be surprised some people might like it because it presents NTR in such an enlightening way. There is however a Chinese patch if you know some Chinese and I say you should read it even if you hate NTRs. It might just transform you. :wahaha:

P.S. Also Rest in Peace Elf. We will miss your awesome works like Boku no Kanojo wa Gatenkei!

The one that sticks out for me is
Semiramis no Senbin.
Made me more aware of social phenomena, not the ones we think of when we hear the word, but little truths that hide in our everyday interactions. Where is the line between manipulating someone and just changing them by being next to them? Can you truly change who someone is?

There are other works which influence me, when I read a strong VN which has a relevant statement or theme, it often affects my thoughts and might cause me to compare myself to that.

I guess Houkago no Futekikakusha was the only time where I furiously liked the whole cast as a group. It sounds simple, but the emotions were so strong throughout reading the novel. Phew.

I treat NTR like dark chocolate. It's bittersweet, you may not like it at first, and not everyone likes them but if you appreciate for what it is and the more you "eat" them, you will grow quite accustomed to them.

Usually people should start with "Netori" first which a subgenre of NTR in which you play the bad guy and committing the NTRing and stealing the girl. If you can stomach what the guy you are NTRing is experiencing, then it's time to put yourself on their shoes and try out "Netorare". Like everything else, tastes can be trained but you shouldn't overexert it by watching the most hardcore NTRs off the bat.

NTR
...
It might just transform you.

*Shivers*...
I really don''t like the rape. But in anycase, reading NTR (Dark Blue was the VN) really changed me. I've seen VN's with gratuitous rape (Kizuato, Evernicle, IMZ), but NTR is like the devil. It's more insidious because the rape is a deliberate part of the plot.
I'm staying away from NTR for this moment, because if I keep reading I don't have confidence that I'll be able to see normal charages and heriones the same way again. It's terrifying.

If you're not a fan of rape, you won't like it very much.

why is that so? as if the only possibility of a girlfriend/boyfriend cheating is by getting raped? - suppose you start accepting reality as not beeing the pink-lovey-dovey scenario you might have thought it to be...

edit. regarding this threats topic, going to post something later today, as i consider some novels for having truly influenced my personality in more than one way, but cant right now due to beeing still at work aka me sneaking away to consume eroge on our toilette is sadly no secret anymore :/

damn, are you trying to tempt me here? cuz it is working lol well actually i was not familiar with term NTR so i had to google it but now i have a rough idea, i am actually quite interested...i am just wondering how serious the NTR genre is, like is it too depressing where they actually show the girls emotionally suffering and all that or is it more focused on the sex part?

and by the way, would this kind of vns fall under nukige? (excuse my ignorance here lol)

I wouldn't say i am a fan of rape... lol but really like i said depending on how serious the atmosphere is i might try and see how it goes. i mean i have played seriously some of the most depressing vns (Narcissu, Swan Song, Saya no Uta) so i am used to dark vns, but if the vn is solely focusen on raping the heroines or stuff like that i am not so sure XD

nah ntr as a genre does not fall under nukige, of course the are those incl. it, but its like any other genre out there, to be precise though elf created superior ntr stories, they sold non as expected because of many people complaining about them consisting of too less porn.
also rape is definitely no vital point of a good ntr plot, as consensual cheating etc wouldnt require it aka netorare type a. i suppose you go for the more lighthearted ones first like triangle blue (though some endings are fucked up as fucking hell), dark blue, i can, binitsu no kaori (mostly netori), kawarazakike 2 etc, before challenging the emotional czar bomb called gatenkei (for your physical & mental sake)

Hahaha maybe. I am the self proclaimed Netorare Witch of Fuwanovel after all. I like to convert people to the dark side. :wahaha:

There's several levels/type of NTR. Most people hate NTR Type B which mostly consists of rape/blackmail/beating the girl to submission until she "mindbreaks". Here's how the NTR genre is divided. I'll credit Telsa from anime-sharing for this since the origins of my passion of NTR comes from him and he educated with NTR. Hope people get something out of it and not just judge it simply because they see the dreaded 3 letters.

NTR Type A - Consensual NTR where girl gives a thumbs up to being NTRed, knows she's cheating and enjoys the fact that she's cheating. This isn't as "hardcore" as the next Type, but some people still might dislike it since the girl is pretty much viewed as a whore/slut.

NTR Type B - There's 3 subcategories that fall under this since it's a lot more complex. What they have in common is the girl doesn't approve of it at first but eventually "submits" to temptation.

  • Type B-1 - Manipulated Consensual NTR or also known as the Blackmail NTR. Girl disapproves of sleeping with the bad guy but the bad guy corners the girl through blackmail, threats, and devious tricks and then she submits. Eventually she finds this pleasurable and continues to do it.
  • Type B-I - Intentionally Manipulated Consensual NTR or also known as Voluntary NTR. This is almost like NTR Type C except for the fact that the girl will usually not be in favor of the whole thing at first. This type involves the protagonist (the one getting NTRed) where his actions forces the girl to cheat (his bad attitude, not being man enough, he sucks in bed for being a premature ejaculator/small dick, being stupid and actually want to get NTRed) or his neglect to the point of the girl being bored/depressed/disappointed and want to go along with the NTR with the bad guy.
  • Type B-2 - Rape till Consensual NTR. Bad guy raping the girl till she "mindbreaks" and essentially become addicted to sex.

NTR Type C - Protagonist watching lover get raped. Some people don't consider this NTR but rather just rape genre but sometimes the protagonist feels pleasure from the experience and actually wants to get NTR'ed even more.

Subgenres:

NTR Mystery - Like B-I, it is told from the protagonist's perspective. What's fun about this subgenre is protagonist already suspects his lover is cheating and as the events are unfolded slowly, he finds out that she's been cheating way longer than he anticipated and finds the dirty, harsh truth about the whole infidelity. There's different story arcs/routes and usually you are given the perspective of the protagonist, then the lover, then sometimes maybe the bad guy.

Netori - You play the role of the bad guy and steal the girl from the poor loser who deserves it. This is usually the go-to if you want to explore NTR/cuckolding genre for the first time. Some people debate if this is in fact NTR or not as NTR usually involves the protagonist (you) being a helpless one who is powerless to stop your lover from being stolen. I just consider this a subgenre rather than a type of NTR since cheating/cuckold is still involved but just from a different perspective.

Long live NTR and may we find more minions to join our cause. It is not as bad as people think it is.

Not a lot. Other than Discipline, YU-NO, Gang Rape Club or School Days, I don't know any good lengthy fully English translated works with some serious NTR. Some VNs have a few NTR scenes here and there but ones that have significant NTR content or centralizes around NTR are quite hard finds. Almost all the best NTRs are untranslated and it's dumb because no one wants to fantranslate them. I had to learn a little bit of Japanese to appreciate and read most of my NTRs, but it is worth it in the long run.

I'm not really into netorare but the "best" vns are not translated, I mean is like a particular fetish and so not everyone is interested in translating those types of novels, so if you are into that you should really start studying japanese :P

that's what I thought , another reason to learn Japanese then lol

MikeY91 => About Elf...Have you read/play YU-NO ?

https://vndb.org/v1377

It's very, very, VERY old-school...and really fascinating

I have added that to my future list, I hear a lot about it so I will surely give it a try. Thanks.

Dammit, and I got all excited for nothing :P, but yeah like I said I'm seriously considering learning Japanese, I mean I'm pretty sure I will always keep reading vns, so might as well learn the language. Thanks for all of your explanation there.

you should, there is a whole new world out there if you learn Japanese :P  I mean if you really are into vns and it's not something temporal sooner or later you will want to start learning the language, at least that's what happened to me xD

Let's nudge this thread back on topic, shall we?

Probably G-senjou left the strongest impact on me.  The ending made me cry like a little bitch, and I'll still tear up occasionally listening to the OST.  Haven't had one that significantly shifted my outlook on life or anything, though, so all I can really say is which one affected me the most emotionally.

That said, I'm pretty sure Subahibi is gonna top that, whenever the damn patch is released.  It sounds more intense than Swan Song, and that's quite a feat.
