Which other works, if I may ask?

Emotionless characters are something of a preference of mine, you see.

Geez talk about being put on the spot. Um, offhand in recent times I can only think of kiznaiver, planetarian, sakurasou no pet na kanojo and saekano?

I see... that's part of what I have heard. I'll still at least watch the first episodes to see how I feel about it or, worst case scenario, at least enjoy the sights :sacchan:

It's a bit like the hype train that surrounded mahoutsukai no yome but that has more life to it and has some soul at least which makes it an above average watch, but not awesome. Evergarden just seems like a flashy production of something quite flat by comparison - and while portraying an emotionless character may have something to do with it, other works have done this in the past with great emotional effect.

Is it really that good? I've yet to start it, but have generally heard very mixed things, like how beautiful it is but how shallow the whole stuff going on/characters are.

Not really. It's very pretty but it's not really striking any chords with me. Seems to be riding on hype and production values rather than anything much to me, but mine would be an unpopular opinion.

  4. Houseki no kuni was a real gem. Pun fully intended. It made me think 3d is finally coming of age when it looks so good. I think the mistake is mixing 3d with 2d where they just don't blend. Good all round 3d seems to be a very valid way forward. Having said that, it's never about technology but about implementation, and houseki no kuni is just a great original story done exceptionally well.

Well yeah, that's ok for me. The scars war can leave in a person is a big part of how horrible it is.

Yeah but interestingly I speak more of her inability to empathise with normal human emotions which appears to be intrinsic for her, not war induced, despite being human. A good romance ought to beat that out of her.

Watched the 1st ep of Violet Evergarden. I very much like the setting and the background. Ghastly depictions of war and traumatic experiences are not original at all, but I find them always interesting if conducted the right way. So yeah, I hope to see more of that in the following episodes.

The animation was really good, not at the level of fluidness and detail of the trailers of course, but that was to be expected. KyoAni did a good job as they have us already accostomed.

Will it survive the hype? I doubt it, but not because I don't have expectations of this series being great; it's just that the hype was too much.

Can't imagine there'll be too many more war scenes except for the occasional flashback now for the rest of the story is bound to be focussed only on Violet's emotional rehabilitation.

Here are all the lines. The ED is just a black screen for me so I skipped it, maybe we're talking about different things?

Ah right sorry, yes they're bitmaps, not the video but still not text in the game so they'd have to be graphic edited. Looking through the extracted bitmaps, they only did that on Manaka's route for some reason. Perhaps they felt they didn't give enough of a postscript in the video for her because of

    Spoiler

Ikuno's part in the story as the extra text is a monologue from Ikuno.

    Manaka's extra postscript:

    Spoiler

The words thank you are for seeing the brilliant skies that are always floating above for the first time.

Thanks also for the absurd floating sight provided by my Onee-chan.

And while I'm at it, thanks to that idiot...

I just skipped through to the end and I counted 7 lines. It's broken into 2 parts I think.

I rewatched it to make sure and I only see 2 lines for Manaka's ED. The rest are game credits.

EDIT Again: No I still only see 2 lines. The others I saw are in other girls' routes.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure there were at least a few lines more though.

      Reveal hidden contents

It was never explained how they saved the archives so I assumed it would be mentioned there.

Also, I only played through Manaka and Yuma's routes so far (and Yuma's didn't have any text at the end), so I didn't realise there would be untranslated text at the end of all the routes. If it's plot relevant wouldn't it be a good idea to provide a translation, even if it's not ingame?

Nope, I checked the video, it's only 2 lines in the video and all other text is translated. Not sure how you expect me to translate what's in the video and show it in the game? The only option was to reencode the video and subtitle that component and while I toyed with that idea, I didn't bother in the end since distributing videos would make the patch much much bigger and be a much clearer copyright violation. As it is there is no copyright violation. On the whole all of these lines in each girls' closing video are repeated lines from the girls' routes; they don't add anything to the story.
