I started playing hoshizora no memoria and i'm wondering about the ages

Anyone know their age?

Also, they are in secondary, high school or university?

Honestly I don't know, though I do know that with any 18+ game. EVERYONE who can get the D is over 18. If Aoi's sister had a route she'd be 18 by the will of the universe. Now that I've said my piece . . .

Though yeah, obviously, slapping a convenient "I'm over 18!" label on them is... Well, just that. A matter of convenience to avoid bitching from critics. Gotta avoid them child porn charges!

Because you know, people totally can't tell the difference.

It is what it is, though. They're all "over 18." :P

I think that he is his 2nd year therefore he is 16-17. you should be able to work out the rest. If not then just say they are are all over 18.

For Mare you can decide between 7 years old or a billion year old your choice.

It' so obvious that their under 18(except Yume) but I guess these games don't want to promote 18+ relationships with minors so they just say that even though it's totally clear that their under age.

Well, they pretty much say how old they are by saying what year of high school they're in.  I don't remember the characters' ages being directly stated, though.  Besides, the Japanese Penal Code says that the age of consent for minors is 13, so...I don't think that the makers of VNs have that much to worry about, unless they have really young heroines, and even then, I don't think it's considered child pornography, according to the most recent law passed in Japan in regards to it.

Over the age of consent, of course. Heheh, Japan.

There's no better way to justify f*cking lolis.

Well, to be fair, the law regarding digital/traditional art containing sexual acts between children or between a child and an adult or an older minor has always been pretty sketchy.  There was a Supreme Court case about it in the U.S. (Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition), and that case struck down the federal law against it.  There's still some state laws prosecuting the possession of it, but they vary.  It's not just Japan that condones cartoon porn with minors in it.

Japan does not condone anything. That's the difference. Last ruling banned child pornography. It didn't banned lolicon, it didn't banned shotacon. It didn't banned hentai, whether it would be games, light novels, anime or manga. It seems a lot of people still do not understand the difference.

On the other hand, "cartoon porn" involving minors is illegal in a lot of states of NA; it is completely illegal in Great Britain and Canada. This includes all of hentai cases, lolicon and shotacon as well. You even go to jail, if proven guilty; in most cases it ends with ridiculous fines and social branding to fend off any potential troublemakers.

I meant condone, as in, to reluctantly approve of something.  I know a lot of states ban it, that's why I said there are some state laws prosecuting it.  Really, I didn't say it was legal all over the world, all I said was that the U.S. doesn't have a federal law against it.
