THANK YOU NAYLEEN

Today's outage was caused by Apache update craziness.  Nayleen dedicated hours and hours and hours -- and his mental health and physical nerves -- to solving this for us.

I hope you'll all join me in thanking him.  We honestly (and literally) wouldn't be here without him.  He single-handedly prevented another Fuwapocalypse-sytle outage.

Thank you, Nayleen.  Truly.  Thanks.  We owe you one.

PHP 5.5 plx.

Also GOOD JOB

I'd love to upgrade to PHP 5.5 and Apache 2.4 (I rolled back to 2.2 after I fixed the borked up package list that installed it in the first place) to have everything run a little smoother, but:

  • That'd mean another downtime of unknown length (for reasons below)
  • It might break software (the blog and the forums) I'd need to fiddle inside the source to fix, possibly preventing updates down the line
  • It'd only be nice to have for the better performance and lower memory consumption - "never change a running system"
