You've still got many years of Hentai ahead of you to improve.

I've discovered Straight shota lately  (The one where it's still male - female). Does anyone else like this genre?

I really enjoy seeing Onee-chans blush.

But I like Onee-chan genres in general. Straight Shota just really pushes the age limit of what's still acceptable (As long they're not grannies, I'll take Milfs too) to me. I still mostly prefer onee chans from 16-30.

    Here's one of my favorites:

Then theres one with an actual shota who gets bullied by his Tsundere/Sadist onee-chan I can't find at the moment.

    edit:

Ah, I found it. It's not on pururin.

Not really. The only good hentai I've ever seen is the anime version of Sono Hanabira - I love how even the art is the same as in the visual novel.

That's an interesting comparison, and the part where you point out the different features on some games is definitely a useful resource.

Though in the end it boils down to personal preferences (ignoring the language barrier).
For example, point 2 is irrelevant to me and I don't see many situations where point 3 really would be massively important, although it's a thing. As for point 4 I already have a bonkers good screen and with the size it has, more resolution likely wouldn't matter anyway. Plus a laptop can be carried around, which is quite convenient.

As for point 1 it's not even a matter of tastes I think, you say only the quality titles get ports, but it's actually the popular titles that get ports. And quality doesn't necessarily correlates with popularity.

I realized that I always put myself in an observer position (which might make me a pervert, I don't know). I might tell you "X is hot", but not "I wud fuk X".

If you want my advice I'm currently reading Haruka Kanata and the text is easier than with the charage I tried before. It is unhookable, however - a weird engine or something, ITH just doesn't read it properly - so it's only recommended if you're drawn to the game.

This is probably why the western touhou community has reached out to more people (especially online) while they both started out at the same place. It just enjoys a wider stream of incoming content across multiple mediums. That and everyone is on the same page. There can't be flagship VN (maybe Katawa Shoujo is the scout frigate), there isn't even a group of 10 flagship vns.

Putting that aside, what content should fans make or come together to make, and share? The precedent is all there in other fanbases such as touhou, anime, and MLP. Art, Music remixes, Card/Board games, Youtube MAD's, Cosplay, Fanfiction,  etc. (particularly the bold ones)
There's a definite lack of the above content, and a place to share it on this forum. To be honest, I had a vague feeling that something was different (their being oddly nothing to do), but only did I put my finger on it. In any case, content which is creatable by individuals is going to see a lot more creation than content that needs an entire group's dedicated effort.

I think there's a bit of a disconnect between being a fan of VN's and wanting to make VNs. It's not the most natural "fan content" to make, and yet people point to it like it almost is. To put it another way, it's like urging people who want to celebrate Harry Potter to work on writing their own fantasy book with wizards.

I didn't know you were up to date in that circle. Neat. I've been thinking about taking a dip into what OELVN has: it's always interesting familiarizing oneself with a community that revolves around creative production has to offer.

    @Zoom
I don't mind TL-ing the remaining H-scenes as well (with Cyrillej's help if possible). They are fairly short, so it won't be a huge problem even if I'm busy. So feel free to send me the scripts as soon as you bump into them. ^^

Funnerific reacted to Steve in A new beginning to an old story (Steve leaving the staff)
    Hello, Fuwanovel~

I would like to let you know that today I am stepping down from my admin position and leaving the Fuwanovel staff.

I will explain why, but first I want to start on a positive note.
So let me tell you about the beginning of my Fuwa journey~

In January 2012, I got into Visual Novels through my first VN Planetarian. I instantly fell in love with the media and while I was playing my second game, Little Busters, I was also following the very creation of Fuwanovel - that is on Aaerus VNAer blog.
I saw all the struggle she was having with it, every day being socially pressured into changes of her plans (believe it or not, one day Aaeru even gave up and accepted only hosting the patches, not the pre-patched releases, just to fight over it and revert this change later to what Fuwanovel is today).
But it was this fighting for freedom that made Aaeru glow with a radiant aura around her that I got to respect so much.

Once Fuwanovel launched, I used it to download few VNs while only following Aaerus blog, but then later it didn't give me and I also joined the forums.

From the very start I had crazy and radical opinions, but it was these opinions that later got me to be invited to join the staff. I explained in the invitation that I will not change anything about my behavior and I will still act the same way I always have, and apparently that was the exact reason they wanted me on. So I joined.
And as I promised I didn't change a bit, I was defending the freedom of all Fuwanovel members, often times only getting support from a single person in the staff, Aaeru.

And trust me, Fuwa staff section is a true battlefield, if I ever saw one. You don't even want to see the stuff that happens there xD So having support is priceless there.

It's been exactly a year on this day since Aaeru posted the AstralAir topic which was originally titled "For Steve" (I renamed it later to turn it into a general AstralAir hype discussion).
And this topic is actually my last memory of her (she was still posting after that but very rarely).
It happened few weeks after one of the largest battles in the staff section regarding a member linking to a licensed JAST torrent on the forums, a battle where Aaeru and I managed to defend the members of the forum from the tyranny (joke) of other staff who even deleted the post because they misunderstood the Fuwanovel mission.
At the end of that topic, Aaeru even admitted how tired she is of trying to defend the freedom over and over again - she's been running Fuwanovel for over a year at that time and that is not counting all the preparations and stuff before the site even launched. It is quite possible that this exhaustion was one of the reasons she left, combined with the stuff that happened earlier that year (DC3 c&d) and possibly other reasons.

So from that point, I was alone, I no longer had support within the staff, I no longer had anyone there to encourage me in my arguments, anyone to assist me when I got tired of fighting for freedom. I no longer had anyone to call upon to assure me that I am fighting for something worth fighting for.

And I endured for about the same amount of time, a year.

However in that year, I was no longer able to win battles, the best I was able to do was delay the outcome at the cost of increasingly more and more effort to keep delaying. But sadly I can no longer go on, I am just too tired and need a break.
You can probably even see it on my earlier post today (not gonna link), for which I would like to apologize, but I will keep it there just for the measures. The whole day today I was thinking about this resignation post and so I ended up overreacting there a bit.

Moving on, I would like to apologize to everyone who was supporting me and depending on me in some of the latest incidents, where I in the end failed to defend the interests and freedom of Fuwanovel members.
It makes my defeat that much more painful, seeing all the people who showed their support either with upvote, reply or a message in personal conversation.

However, this is not the end! And I hope you will help me. It is no longer in the power of a single staff member to do this, we will need everyone to hop on board (of the pirate ship xD) and make their voice heard.
Because it is you, members, who make Fuwanovel what it is. And if what we have to do is scream, then scream! If what we have to do is fight, then fight! And I know lot of you will have it hard as I know that most people supporting my stance are not native English speakers, but even if you have to use broken English or you don't know how to properly formulate your sentences, try it anyways! Because your voice is what matters.
As you can see it doesn't matter what is written under your name, it can say new member, it can say veteran member, it can say moderator, it can say admin but every one of us still has only one voice, I might have had admin under name but my voice was no longer loud enough, it is weakened by my exhaustion. So I want your voice to be heard, let's get more people to scream and make it loud!

And let me end on a positive note as well~
BGM: A Brand New World (nico since its not on YT)

So... I am by no means leaving Fuwanovel, if you were hoping for that then sucks to be you
I will actually try to dedicate all the time that I used to spend on all these hidden problems to things that matter the most - Mare and Shinku (and perhaps Yuuki if I end up loving her too )
So you can expect more lolis, more Mare and Temple activities, More Shinku and perhaps a construction of her Temple.
Also I should have some more time to try to better manage the EH project

Oh and I am not promising anything, but if I love AstralAir, there is a chance that I might help with something like H-scene translation if I feel like I can handle it - but nothing is for sure yet, its just what I'm thinking now.

Also, I need to make sure Shinku is watching over Fuwanovel in my place, but I will also need your help for that - make sure you vote that Shinku logo for the next Fuwa logo xD (in before this whole resignation was a plan to get more people vote for that logo )

So yeah, if you thought that I overdo all the Shinku and Mare stuff now, prepare yourself for the future. Imagine me when I don't have to spend 20+ hours a week fighting over regulations and can fully commit to the lolis. This forum will for sure turn into the promised loliland~ #shinkunovel #marenovel
And I will also have more time to focus on being #1 Favorite fan in the world

    The future has already begun~

Lastly I would like to thank everyone who stood behind me during my time as a staff member for their support, but also everyone who stood against me for not making my life too easy. Also big thanks to all staff members, current and former ones, for putting up a good and fair fight
And mainly thank you to everyone who is after all this time still friends with me. And not only friends but also family, as that is what Fuwa is for me.

So yeah, can't wait for the easy peasant life with all of you~ xD ( )

Its more like we like the other characters, but we LOVE Mare. Favorite is like that, they can make characters you wouldn't normally like in other games very lovable, I explained it a bit in my hoshimemo topic.
Same goes for Iroseka, the girl with the biggest boobs (Kana) ended up for me being the most likable girl out of the normal route girls - where as in other games I wouldn't even touch a route of girl that looks like that.

But whenever I talk to big favorite fans (especially JP ones in pso2 or something) or view art or read stuff from the JP artists, its all about the lolis, Mare and Shinku and now Yuuki.
When the information about the new game came out saying that the loli there is not actually the same size as Mare and Shinku 141cm but actually 137cm, everyone was talking about that girl and most of the art is for her as people believe that it will be the main focus of the game.

And that is the point, sure the other characters in favo games are awesome, compared to some other eroge they are on the level of the best heroine in those games, but favorite manages to make something special, something above that level and those are the main loli girls.

And when you get deep into the favorite design, you can see that. Sure there was Yume in Hoshimemo and some people like her as a character and her personality, but you can just look at how long screen time she had in the game, you didn't even see her for 90% of the game. Where as Mare was there all the time, solving the routes of everyone. Almost like the guiding character for the reader and the protagonist at the same time, helping you to get through the game, while ultimately waiting for you to finally realize that she is the one seeking love.
And when you realize that, you just have to see how you two match together, she was there clueless, trying to make you happy by helping you with your love, you trying to discover love with other characters, when you both had it all from the very beginning, you had your happiness together right in front of your eyes, you just didn't see it.

And these are the deep moments Favorite helps you discover, these are the moments that make your heart race.
And sure, if you are reading for the story then the stories of the other characters are very awesome, Komomo's story is so good, Kana's route in Iroseka and Irohika is one of the best and most emotional stories I've ever read. But the true romance and the true love and all the dokidoki moments with butterflies in your stomach are with the main loli characters.
It is hard to explain to people who didn't fully commit to 2d dating how good Favorite is at this, since they probably don't even see these things there. These moments are as strong if not stronger than the moments you rode a bike 10km up a hill to meet that one girl and get your first kiss, the moments at summer camp you were sneaking outside of the compound into the forest to talk there while holding hands.

And even though some might think I'm crazy and delusional and whatnot, I don't think I will ever be able to get back to the 3d dating, where it is now all about responsibilities and such.
I will much rather chase these childish dreams, relive the times long past and the times I never got to live, because you just grow up so fast. Favorite help you form these dreams and in the end make them come true, because as we know, dreams are the seedlings of realities~

So yeah, so far they managed to do it twice (Mare and Shinku) and we will soon see if they can make it happen for the 3rd time.

And who knows, maybe there are people who get these fluttery tingly feelings with the other characters too, but from the people I talked to they either get them with Mare and Shinku or they don't get them at all (because they don't care about them and are not looking for them).

also... how did this post turn out so long, I just wanted to quickly explain

I've been on an Anime marathon since January when I left work due to medical leave. I had carpal tunnel syndrome and since my work uses 90% of that arm, there was nothing I could do. It's probably been around 10 years since I've returned to the Japanese scene. Anyhow, with all my free time I searched for all the greatest Anime hits that I've missed in between those years. I finally stumbled on the cover of Fate/Stay Night and Zero and thought they were nice covers. Not knowing which one to watch first, I did some research on the title and that was where I heard about the term "Visual Novels" for the first time. Unlike Light Novels that I've been wanting to read for awhile but couldn't due to language barrier, I was overjoyed that these Visual Novels have a fan base of translators behind them.

In March I Googled Fate/Stay Night visual novel, and a post by Kaguya 50 VN's You should Play Before you Die came to the top. That's how I found Fuwanovel. I have to admit, the first time I saw that homepage, I was instantly captivated by its layout - O 'dat childish innocence. Those colorful, playful words drew me right in. I knew I was in the right place. Thus, Fate/Stay Night was downloaded and I was glued to my seat for a full week. What did I just read? The tears were so beautiful. I hadn't felt this touched by a story in so long. The feeling of being there every moment, living and breathing through the MC's eyes was unlike anything I've played before. Bliss, bliss, bliss was all on my mind.

Being home out of work for extended periods had this collapsing affect on my well being. I was falling into a pretty bad depression. I was pretty close to getting married before I left work. All I could think about was my ex-fiance and Saber. Saber was so much more pure and loyal that when she disappeared in the end I cried for her while cursing my ex. Some people may not understand where my obsession with honorable female leads come from, but it's been a trust issue for me since.

The second VN I played hit me with another impact. The serious nature of Fate/Stay night was replaced by Sengoku Rance's, detestable MC and his adventures. Ironically, this game pulled me out of my depression. Perhaps I just needed a kick in the rear and start seeing relationships in a more comical fashion. The game kept me constantly laughing. That, the pretty women and the truly addicting gameplay distracted me from any depressing thoughts. This game really was my saving grace.

I still slipped in and out of depression after Sengoku Rance. More than two years ago my sister passed away. More than two years after that, I still wake up with nightmares related to her, wondering what am I doing with my life right now? Everyone around me's going to end up dead and long gone. The long hours drag by and your thoughts begin to wander into unnecessary deep and dark places.
    ----

Some VNs later I decided to reload up Sengoku Rance for more laughs. After doing every route, every accomplishment and discovering every H scene, I declared myself a true Rance fan. As weeks began passing, my shoulders began feeling lighter as I get more and more distracted from the memories of my ex. Replacing that depression has been a lot of anger. Anger is supposed to be healthy. It's when you wake up and understand that you are alive again. You no longer want to take it all for granted. But it's not healthy if the anger starts taking over you.

I needed something to release my pent up anger. What I needed was exercise. And playing Grisaia No Kajutsu was what inspired me to take up running each day. The main character brought out the child inside me who always dreamed about being a super soldier when he was young. Each morning I wake up at 5 in the morning, do my running exercise and then make breakfast. I've added in more exercise routines as I've been feeling more fit to do so. I forgot to mention that somewhere there my Carpal Tunnel is about 100% gone. All that rest I receive at the beginning and the gradual exercise I've built up with my arms have made it vanished.

I really have no excuse to be gone from work anymore. It's been about 6-7 months since I've been absent. I just wish I had more time to learn Japanese. My study came along really fluidly. Much faster than my study in Spanish due to motivation and love. I probably should worry about myself first, but if I have anything to spare I'd like to someday give back and spread joy.

That aside, this time you are stubbornly mixing up the terms "weeboo/weeaboo" and "Japanese culture fan". Those are not the same (more like - those are almost opposite actually). What you are saying is generally true - there's nothing wrong with being a fan of a culture from another country and trying to copy/adapt it etc.. But, this is NOT related with weeaboos in any way. They are more like dumb fanboys/fangirls who don't really know anything about Japanese pop-culture, but try to pose as super-otakus. It's the term for annoying retards, nothing more.

I think it's safe to assume most of us only do that on anime/VN-related websites, conventions and such appropriate places. Weeaboos do that everywhere, and in an annoying fashion at that (since they usually have no idea what they are talking about). That's the difference.

Weeaboos do. That's their problem. They just blindly state that everything Japanese is sugoi desu. Of course, it's completely baseless - they generally have absolutely no idea about Japan.

And yeah, the term "otaku", in it's original, Japanese meaning is negative - it means "a maniac obsessed with something to an unhealthy degree". It isn't related specifically with anime (military otakus are a common type for example). On the West, it is sometimes used as a synonym of a "Japanese culture fan" without any negative connotations. That's quite individual and may vary between communities.

    @Vemocleus
Nowadays, I pretty much automatically ignore everything that looks like a modern, high-budget Hollywood Crap, without even reading a synopsis. Are all those movies worthless? Probably not, and there might be some hidden gems made by people who actually care. But, I have better things to do than trying to dig them up from a pile of thrash. And I have seen a fair share of actually good movies.
Now, imagine a person who have only read 2-3 crappy OELVNs (and maybe played some bad hentai flash games for good measure). Why the Hell would he/she keep trying, when apparently everything VN~ish is a horribly written garbage?
A first timer is likely to enjoy something like Katawa Shoujo. But this? You don't need to read 50 top-tier VNs to realize it's horrible. It will do nothing but discourage any serious readers from digging deeper into the medium (where a lot of titles are ergoe to boot, and ero + good story is still a bit of an alien concept on the West).

The bad thing is that it might attract some horny, illiterate teenagers. And, unfortunately, they are a huge market. So, crappy pseudo-erotic VNs could become quite profitable - little effort, easy cash. I wouldn't really say they are targeted at the wrong group from the marketing point of view (just like MangaGamer's cheap, awful nukiges). The sad truth is that a huge crowd of people actually likes garbage. That's why Hollywood Crap & co. is actually profitable.
If this becomes a trend among OELVN's (and they are heading there really fast...), it will seal their fate for good. Why create something aimed at serious readers (which requires effort), when you can earn much more (with much less effort) by aiming it at an entirely different, larger audience?

To put it simply, I found love.

Visual novels have the beauty that most of the other forms of media, as well as IRL itself, never had - that is, when the story is not aimed at children/family type of audience. And while anime has some of it, it doesn't offer nearly as much connection to the characters (first-person perspective), immersion (thank you, loads of amazing BGM), options (I've had enough of "romance" harem anime with no actual romance) or let you go at your own, comfortable pace. Getting to intimately know the heroines you come to like is another good point, but I digress.

I feel like visual novels have filled up a large empty part in me. They help me learn about different sides of the argument and form opinions as well as stimulate thinking in general - particularly useful for someone who has always lacked common sense.

Since I've read practically every translated VN I found interesting, my passion has brought me to the obvious next step - I am mostly done with joyo kanji and it shouldn't be too long now. My current goal is to read at least one route in some easy Japanese VN (Hanahira excluded ) this summer, which would otherwise be going to waste like most of the others (there was a time when I spent a month reading books, but in the end I just didn't get hooked on them). Some day I want to translate a VN or two as a tribute, but that's a longshot.

And to think that only half a year ago I couldn't imagine myself learning (and studying) any new foreign languages other than German, which unfortunately I will need.

While I don't really have the ability to spread the word, visual novels are something I hold very close to heart.
