  1. Not sure what skin you're using for the forums, but on the dark background, the text looks horrible. You should cut + paste it once more, click "clear formatting" and then post it again, this is unacceptable:
  2. All the best wishes to @Fred the Barber and @arosia! So many late-May people around here.
  3. OP, please correct the formatting, this is unreadable. TYIA.
  4. If SakuraGame is really going to expand towards serious titles like this we'll soon start missing the times when MoeNovel was the worst company around.
  5. The Curse is so widespread and pervasive that you can believe when I'm even mentioning it, it's a patricularly bland one. ;]
  6. It's up to you in the end, you know the situation better than any of us. I don't think you should worry about leaving the therapy "incomplete" though, if you can get to the point where she knows you regret hurting her in the past and wish her well, it might help her a lot. You probably both could use some closure before you leave, and "some" might be better than none, even if you can't hope for truly reparing your relationship (especially for her, if she really thinks you pretty much hate her and wish she never existed).
  7. I understand, but I don't think anything that might work would be comfortable/easy at this point. I went through a lot of family drama and I know how hard is to get through this kind of accumulated emotion and animosity. At this point, I don't think you can do much without some kind of outside help/mediation (especially within the timeframe available to you). It's just my opinion though, shaped by my positive experience with therapy, maybe others will have other perspectives or ideas.
  8. Shit, this is heavy... The only idea that comes to my mind is going to a family therapist together. You probably still have some time before you leave the country. If you can convince her that you would like to repair your relationship as much as possible before you part, having a psychologist to moderate your conversations and help you understand each other's feelings might be the best shot you have.
  9. Disclaimer: I was provided with a free review copy of this game by the developer. All opinions expressed here are solely my own. OELVN scene is, for many years now, heavily reliant on crowdfunding, with many small and high-profile projects made possible through Kickstarter and, more and more often, regular contributions of fans on Patreon. While these methods of financing VN development created opportunities that wouldn’t be available to the developers in the past and brought us many memorable titles, they go with their share if risk and problems – weak safeguards guaranteeing the final product delivering on its promises or even being completed at all, being the most crucial one. Crowdfunded projects disappointing their audience, getting stuck in development hell or simply never coming to fruition are at least just as much a reality as they are in the “normal” game development scene. However, in these cases, the consequences are falling mostly on the average backer, who took the double role of the consumer and the investor, hoping for nothing more than a compelling piece of entertainment in return. For this reasons, I very much enjoy seeing crowdfunded projects overcoming extreme difficulties and delivering even when everyone pretty much forgot about them or stopped hoping for a positive resolution. Lately, we’ve seen the release and warm reception of AIdol – a game that spent more than half a decade in development, went through both a failed Kickstarter campaign and changes in staff, eventually being claimed by Ebi-Hime, originally only the writer for the project, and released under her name. Today, I’ll look at another long-forgotten project, Pistachi Studio’s Ruler by Default, successfully crowdfunded in 2014 and released on Steam on May 4th this year, exactly 3 years after the initial goal. 10. Anyone else noticed how messed up the anatomy is on that promo picture? Maybe it's secretly a guro title and those are parts of a few mutilated corpses?
  11. Happy Birthday to you @Zander!
  12. Well, well, you haven't read enough quality VNs to say that for sure. I don't think I could go through a really good VN or anime series without a temporary infatuation with a 2D girl. Zero Two would be the latest example, truly a first rate waifu meterial. Although those are very much non-lewd fascinations and I don't buy ridiculously overpriced merch, so I guess I deviate from anime fan stereotype in that respect. ------ And for the original topic, I think my criteria would be: Personality => design > Intrigue/interesting backstory - but all those three are necessary for a really good waifu in my opinion. I will never be mesmerised by a character that doesn't charm me and don't have some interesting internal conflict or secret that makes them more then they seem at first glance.
  13. He was basically the person behind my YouTube addiction, I've watched his stuff regularly for years and I still remember how the news about his desease hit me. People mostly found this weird, how much I cared about an online celebrity, but when you hear that person's voice nearly every day and rely on them for information and entertainment like I did, it all feels very personal. I've expected this news for some time, especially after the latest update that his treatment has ended, but damn this still sucks. Such a young guy, so much talent and potential. He'll be missed. [']
  14. Confession: I've rated my 100th VN on VNDB today! ...It was Sakura Magical Girls. ...And it was absolutely horrible.
  15. Yup, that makes sense, but it was hard for me to verify it (and I only recently realized how often people do that, preparing all kinds of teasers and demos for NaNo rather than full games). Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to redact the post to make it factually correct. One day...
  16. Well, you're right in a way, although even now, when I've played more YGJ games than when I wrote this post I still think there's little that compares ebi-hime's and Nami's work when it goes to overall quality. I also come from the idea that I can always write another list if I find more games and developers worth recommending - I try to pick them carefully because JP VN fans (that are the main audience here on Fuwa) are used to really high quality, high-budget VNs, so they might not survive the cultural shock when approaching some of the indie stuff.
  17. And they say incest only seem cool to people that don't have singlings.
  18. Ashkay already teased me with all-ages Euphoria and Starless in the Maidens of Michael thread, but I will not change my ways. I do want to play Maggot Baits and Euphoria though. I wonder if I'll regret it...
  19. Wow, so there's a chance I'll be able to grab that all-ages version of Maidens of Michael after all! I know I'm weird...
  20. I'm not sure there will be a human civilization around here in 100 years. That's popculture in general IMO (not that high art is much better nowadays).
  21. The West is not mass producing anything yet (unless you count shitty ecchi VNs made by Winged Cloud and Winged Cloud wannabes - they're not that numerous, but definitely properly schematic, dull and uninspired). OELVN market is actually pretty varied and creative, as it's dominated by indies that often either don't know what they're doing or have wacky, out-of-the-box ideas. JP eroge industry is in relative decline for years now and doesn't innovate much, but it's still huge, so it's not like it doesn't produce memorable titles. Just its sheer output suggests that there must be some gems appearing most of the time, they just drown in tons of easily marketable trash and as the Japanese society gets older and the natural demographic for VNs shrinks, it will probably only get worse. I think the OELVN scene and doujin circles are more likely to give us interesting, memorable titles in the future than the typical eroge companies are. But that's the opinion of an uneducated EOP, so probably it's not worth much.
  22. Toji no Miko just grew interesting for one-two episodes before and after the mid-season recap and then came back to being horribly boring and uninspired IMO. Tons of pointless dialogue, poorly-conceived characters and cliched plot developments. The most interesting thing to me is that someone decided to adapt an apparently equally-shitty manga and give it 24 episodes when really cool series rarely get that much. >.> I agree with the general ranking, objectively speaking, it's still nowhere near as bad as Hand Shakers were. Deathmarch doesn't have any romance though, I don't think it fits the theme of the thread. It's only atypical in the way that the protagonist knows the girls are into him but won't do anything about it because they're his slaves. There might be some romantic arc with the mage girl, but she might also die later on? People said something like that.
  23. Well, in Poland there's a lot of talk about something called "re-illiteracy", where people who don't read books and newspapers basically lose basic reading comprehension and writing skills over time. From that point of view, VNs are definitely less of a shitty hobby than watching (dubbed) anime, TV or YouTube videos all day. That only proves that they're "less dumb/mindless" than some other forms of burning time though and probably won't make you regress intellectually. Beyond that... It depends on what you read. If you go through trashy moege/charage every day, they probably won't challenge you much or expand your horizons. On the other hand, there's a lot of plotge that do interesting, thought-provoking things and build your imagination, probably better than any anime, as they have slower pacing and give you much more (meaningful) textual information to process. Or that's how I want to think about it at least. Please don't disprove my life choices.
  24. Paradoxically, I never feel the need to play the demo when a game looks this promising. After all, I will buy it anyways so there's no reason to spoil myself on any part of the experience (unless the demo has some exclusive content, what barely ever happens in VNs). Anyways, enough rambling. Good luck with the development, I'll surely grab this as soon as it comes out.
