Video Trailer Now Available! What is Caffeine: Victoria's Legacy about? Coffee. Yes, you guessed it. It's about coffee - Cappuccino, latte, flat whites and single origin pour over coffee. But it's not just about coffee...... It's about coffee in a steampunk fantasy world where caffeine is magical. The Story Taka, the protaganist, has not seen his mom since his 6th Birthday. One day he decides to embark on a journey to search for her whereabouts. He falls off a plane after drinking a bottle of cold brew coffee given to him by a mysterious barista. This leads him to arrive at a city called Victoria, a Victorian / Steampunk alternate reality where technology is at least a century behind. He soon finds himself in front of a coffee house called Taka Coffee House, the same coffee house he and his parents used to work and live together as one family. Desperate to understand the situation he is in, he vows to find out what happened to his parents. But before doing so, he needs to learn about the power of caffeine. In a divided capital of a crumbling decadent Empire, a bigender failed rabbi and a flamboyant, gay doctor-necromancer uncover ominous occult happenings that not only hold clues to the Febrile Rebellion's failure eight years ago, but also implicate the Czarevena-Regent and her White Guard in eldritch crimes against humanity. As the new bartender at DEAD-END, you’ll make new friends, mix weird drinks, all while navigating Life, Death and everything in between. What are the Themes? The game will focus on the following themes: Wishing vs. Desire vs. Action Locus of Control Coping Mechanisms Personal Growth You can expect the game to touch on topics such as suicide, alcohol abuse and depression. This title is going to be focused towards an audience aged 16 and up. There will be references to alcohol and adult situations. However, there will be no explicit nudity Open to Feedback? Yep. Most of them have good grades, but there are also some deliquents, or lazy, or just stupid people into it. You will ever have the option. You dont like Character XY? No problem, you will be asked if you want to have sex with them. There is also always a option where to release your load, and you often can decide the sexposition. My biggest focus was the story, the dialogues and authentic characters. All this work is just for the first ingame day. I will release every month a new day in similar lengh. I played a lot of other Visual Novels.     Patreon Development Blog Hello! I'm one of the writers and founding members of a small indie VN team currently composed of transgender and non-binary devs dubbed Jockstrap Penguin Studios. We've recently begun development of our first visual novel, entitled Candyfloss, which is centered around the lives of several trans and non-binary teenagers living in central Florida.   10. We are a team of two people with virtually no budget, and one day we decided to make a videogame. Visual novels seemed like the most suitable option back then: they are not particularly hard to programm and allow a decent story. By now we have most of our story layed out and are building scenes with sketch art. Its going to be a short, choose-your-own-adventure kind of story, somewhat ironical in tone with crude and dark humor, set in a low fantasy world full of cynical assholes. Its mosltly inspired by The Witcher and the original Thief games, with some influence from criminal thriller movies. What I am concerned about, though, is selling the game once it is made. Sure, it has anthropomorphic characters which is probably a plus, but it's entirely un-erotic and un-romantic, characters are designed to be quirky and often outright ugly, and the art style is quite un-anime. We simply have now idea how and where we can advertise such a game once we have cool stuff to show. As an example of my art, I'd love to show some pages from a webcomic I abandoned a while ago. Story The allegiance of the 5 big kingdoms over the past century, Ashwell Kingdom located at the center and being the biggest and most influential, Thamor Kingdom in the west who boasts of military excellence and revolutionary weapons created, Loseon Kingdom in the north known for their rich agriculture and reign over the mountainous regions, Maicheven Kingdom in the east known for increased trades and mastery in the craft of aerial weapons and transportation such as aeroplanes, and lastly the Richmond Kingdom, a seaside kingdom and the last to join the allegiance with a relatively recent lineage, has made the country of Eclaria successful in almost all aspects, outgrowing the others found within its vicinity. However, despite the harmonious relationships of these kingdoms, a notorious phantom thief lurks around the whole country with a hidden identity, stealing the most revered artifacts, leaving no kingdom free from his hands. Gems, chests, crowns and scepters from the past generations, he leaves none of the precious artifacts behind. No one knows particularly why the phantom thief commits such crimes, as the stolen artifacts are nowhere to be seen. Recently, the phantom thief has sent a message for Ashwell Kingdom, declaring his plans of stealing a prized possession that they treasure. While Ashwell is governed by matriarchy, Rose D'elaphontaine Ashwell, only child of the Ashwell family and next in line to the throne, seizes the opportunity to catch the infamous phantom thief and put a stop to his crimes, therefore deeming herself worthy of serving the kingdom in the eyes of her constituents as well as the Queen herself. For the past century, the Ashwells have governed their kingdom this way, with the Queen Regent as the Head of the Kingdom and the King as her General. However, Rose is clueless as to who and what the real phantom thief is capable of, and in her case, what she doesn't know can truly harm her. As Rose gets closer to the truth, she comes to experience baffling emotions and these foreign feelings cause a stir inside of her. She comes across two dashing men with a recognizable social status and one who has always stood by her side. Because of the phantom thief, her life takes a major 180-degree turn, changing the princess who only knew of proper courtesy, political talks and marriage solely out of convenience. Becoming the successor of the Knightley family is not an easy childhood to go by. He did have acquaintances, but no one to call his friends. With the Knightley's influence and power all over the kingdom, they have close ties with the royal family. Although he is aware that marrying the princess will be the easiest way to get his dream, he knows better than to do so with his pure efforts and unparalleled skill. Oliver Richmond Oliver is the second child in the family, leaving him the slightest pressure to begin with and the freedom to do his hobbies and travel most of the time. Though contained and trained to a certain formality, he looks up to his big brother and treats his little sister very carefully. He remembers his sister whenever he is with Rose, as according to him, she resembles his dear sister. With Studio Élan, we just released a demo for our first game, "Heart of the Woods." It's a yuri game through and through, although I primarily consider it to be a fantasy game with romance elements, rather than a romance game with fantasy elements.   20. Falling Star is an upcoming romance/drama visual novel spanning over 800k words. If you are interested please read on for more details. Summary: A wish; the magnificent enormous tree standing in the center of Okaraka town is said to have the ability to grant a single wish to whoever manages to climb up to the top. Of course only a handful of people actually believe in this age-old Urban legend. Sasaki Jiro is not one of those people. He's never believed it not even as a small child, now he's finally returning to his home and his opinion hasn't changed in the least. Plagued by strange visions as he returns to his hometown for his final year of high school, Jiro's younger cousin, Inoue Sora somehow manages to get Jiro to join the Astronomy Club. Among the two cousins in the club are Fujimoto Shiro, Jiro's childhood friend, Nura Misaki, a mysterious loner, Chitose Akira, the energetic class president, Hasekura Hinako, a preppy seventh grader, and Sendo Yuichi, a perverted honor student. Eventually, Jiro begins enjoying his time with the Astronomy Club but underneath all the happiness and playful comedy there are dark secrets lurking inside everyone's souls. Characters: Sasaki Jiro- "I hate the world. I think it's a really crappy place. That's why I want to live my life to the fullest. I refuse to let the bastard win." Slightly cynical and skeptical to the core. Jiro is the protagonist of the story. He enjoys messing around with his friends to get a reaction out of them, Sora and Shiro being among his favorite targets. However, despite his usual attitude, he can be a generally nice guy when it counts. Inoue Sora- "Will kissing Shiro really mean I can stay...Alright then, I'll do it!" Naive and gullible, Sora is Jiro's cousin and the president of the Astronomy Club. She's a very kind and polite girl who excels at cooking. She is a good leader and can keep Jiro in check despite usually falling for his jokes. However, she has a tendency to sleepwalk quite frequently, always resulting in chaos. She also is immensely strong despite her gentle appearance. Fujimoto Shiro- "You must wanna have both your arms broken, huh?" Brash and short-tempered, Shiro is Jiro's and Sora's childhood friend and granddaughter of the town's founders. Shiro can be easily aggravated especially by the likes of Jiro and Yuichi. She is a lover of all animals and an avid hater of the heat, often doing whatever it takes to avoid sweating. Chitose Akira- "Hahaha! You guys all actually thought I was gonna pull my skirt down! Upbeat and playful, Akira is the class representative. She loves to play around and as such she usually counters Jiro's teasing with some of her own. However, she knows when to get serious about her job. She also has a tendency to accidentally say blunt things. Akira loves to eat and is frightened of birds. Nura Misaki- "It's horrendous." Cold and aloof, Misaki is a quiet girl in the Astronomy Club. She prefers to be alone and is often eating her lunch on the school's roof. Like Akira, Misaki also has a tendency to be rather blunt, however, in her case, it is completely intentional. Misaki has a fondness for poetry and ketchup and hates being touched. Hasekura Hinako- "Fuee~ I'm an adult!" Proud and stubborn, Hinako is a rich middle school student. She is spoiled and has never been punished for anything. As a result, she takes this as being treated as an adult and thus thinks of herself as such. For some reason, she has a habit of saying "Fuee". She has a strong bond with Akira who she looks up to like a sister. She also is quite addicted to playing crane machines. Hinako loves stuffed animals and hates cats. Sendo Yuichi- "Misaki, my dear. I can see your panties from here. It is truly a lovely angle." Perverted and intelligent, Yuichi is at the top of the third year class. Despite his status of being an honor student as well as a pretty good athlete, he makes no attempt to hide his more indecent qualities. However, somehow he is always there for his friends when it counts the most. Inoue Yoshi- “I LOVE YOU JIRO, MY BOY!!!!!” Loud and hammy, Yoshi is the supervisor of the Astronomy Club. He makes the most out of every day by having as much fun as possible. He cares deeply for Jiro and Sora and is always ready to calm down when he knows they need it. He is completely oblivious to his terrible cooking and music skills. After that, i wanted to share the peculiar history behind the development, as we've had many questions that can only be answered by asking you directly. Blessed be those who know how to listen.” -Nova City foundation chronicles In a world torn apart by crisis, war and hunger, our old leaders faced a dilemma: either find an answer to the conflict or leave humanity to its imminent destruction. They chose the answer. But this answer was not found, it was built. Nova City, humanity´s new hope Nova City is a vibrant symbol of hope and progress. It stands over the ruins of the war-torn world we left behind. Bursting with life and commerce, it seems unthinkable that the city itself is also a massive computer built to house “The Answer”: a system created to govern in the most rational and optimized way, excluding humanity from the exercise of political power. The Answer has brought prosperity to Nova City, and its citizens have lived devoid of major conflicts for over two centuries. Inside an apartment of this city, you wake up to find a tarot card that someone must have slipped under your door. The message is clear: The Fortune Teller has chosen you as the next victim. Game & Features From the start, you have locked yourself in your apartment to hide from the serial killer called "The Fortune Teller". In such a predicament, you’ll be interacting with Nova City and its people through your computer’s screen. From your computer, you’ll be able to make calls, tap into people’s phones and gain access to confidential information. You’ll also be able to hack into security systems in order to, for example, tail someone through traffic light’s camera feeds. During the course of the story, you’ll be able to create alliances with Nova City’s most important factions, gaining powerful friends (and enemies) in the process. Hacklist is currently being developed for PC/Mac. Features: Emotion Compass: Allows you to see how people feel, and how their emotional state changes as you touch certain topics. This will allow you to call bluffs, understand people better, push them to act in certain ways or set the mood for intimate conversations. Profiler: You'll have access to police reports for everyone you speak to. The profiler updates itself as new events unfold, and will give you some insights and hints about your contact's personality, letting you know how people may react differently to the same emotions. Hacklist also presents some new mechanics to the usual VN structure in the form of Apps you can use at any time during your experience: Skall: A videochat app where most dialogues/scenes will happen. Watermelon News: A social network where you'll be able to read people's posts and Nova City News. Remote.hack: Access networks, hack into security cameras, tap phones, and get into other people's computers to reveal their darkest secrets. The story behind the story... (and how your opinion will decide the changes we'll make) So! We're a team of 6 living and working in Caracas, Venezuela. This is a project born a couple of years ago in a itch.io game jam, back when it looked like this: (and yep... that's me!) After the jam, the project leads wanted to continue the project. I couldn't at that time because of my job, so they formed Caustic Games to do it. That's how the second version of Hacklist was born. It was a much more polished product, and it had a new cyberpunk/vaporwave style. This version was approved on Square Enix Collective, where you can still play the demo. (That's Kentai on the center. They grow up so fast! *sniff*) (A screenshot of our pseudo-antagonist Clive Jackson. Remember the name, we'll come back to him in a bit!) The campaign was successful, and we received a lot of feedback that helped us detect some flaws we had. Around this time, 2 of the main artists left the project, and the remaining artist and myself (i had just joined the team) couldn't accurately replicate the previous artist's style, so we were forced to abandon a style we liked in favor of making a new one that we could handle better. Eventually, we rewrote the whole story, keeping the same characters and archetypes mostly intact. But this story was to be set in a futuristic utopia, rather than the bleak future from the previous cyberpunk setting. After some time, we decided that a futuristic Art Deco setting was perfect for the mood of future, progress and empowerment we wanted Nova City to irradiate. ...And then we hit a pretty hard roadblock: none of the characters we were designing were aesthetically cohesive with either the tone and setting, or the environment itself. So we started to make some tests on styles for the characters... ...then we made some more... ...and MORE... We finally set out to define the style and technique we would have for the in-game art, and it went down to these three versions of Clive Jackson (the guy i told you to remember from the previous version!): Aaaand that's where we stand now! we decided internally to go with the third option, as we felt the technique blended better with the background and the character was designed to resemble an Art Deco statue, from the volumetrization to the edgy style from illustrations of the 1920's, 30's and 40's. The thing is, we kind of went open minded about changing the anime style to something that better reflected the world where the story is taking place, but none of us has seen more than a handful of non-anime visual novels, and have no idea if this art style is actually appealing or if it is, on the contrary, something that would disuade readers. Here's where you come into play! We need your feedback and opinion about the project, as asking you guys directly is the only possible way for us to know we're on the right track. We would love it if you took the time to watch the concepts, mockups and screens and tell us, honestly, which images do you find more appealing, and if the current state of art style is something you might want to see in a VN.
