Great review, there's just one thing I will diasgree with and that is the "yuritopia" of many Japanese VNs, in which everyone's gay by default and nothing has to be elaborated upon. No social stigma, no uncertainty. I mean, it's so far from any imaginable RL situations that it takes me out of the experience a little bit.

While this is true for a decent amount of yurige, it is not always the case. It just so happens that a lot of the TLed yurige falls into that category.

The game I'm currently TLing, for instance, deals pretty heavily with this issue. (Tsui Yuri. The TL is done, but we're dealing with some other stuff atm. Hoping to release it sometime in 2018, though, so keep your eyes out for that if you want a yuri game that deals with more realistic issues surrounding the yuri romance aspect. :) )

I do recommend you play Chaos Region first, since Blade X Bullet is most closely linked with certain characters in that one.  Also, Chaos Region goes into the most detail about the weird way in which bits and pieces of the original Asgard universe have been spread all over the place.

Hmm, maybe I'll do that one first, then.

Was it possible to skip the gameplay if you use a 100% save file?

(I can't stand gameplay in my VNs, ugh.)

Chaos Region has a gender-bending protagonist who has a seriously wide variety of h-scenes based on whether s/he is female or male at the time.

Lol, that sounds like a fun ride. :wahaha:

Will play the rest of the games soon-ish, but first I'll read Blade x Bullet. Seeing a story in this universe told from an "evil" guy with parts of Loki's soul in him sounds pretty cool, lol.

I think the Soleil series got my attention with the recent release of Blade x Bullet - Kinrin no Soleil. The whole Norse theme of the series is really interesting, but I wasn't really sure about what to think of it. Judging by the VNDB tags it seems somewhat ero heavy, but I wonder how vanilla (or not) its H-content might be.

And you shouldn't be bothered by the VNDB ratings if this is an H-heavy series. H-heavy VN's will never get a high (>8) VNDB rating regardless how good their story might be - the max those can get is a high 7. Seems to be a natural law of VNDB.

For Shirogane, the H is very vanilla outside of bad ends. I think this is the case for most of the games, except for Blade x Bullet. (You are a bad guy in that game, lol.) I too got really interested in Blade x Bullet, after I heard that my two favorite artists, (Rubi-Sama and NaeNae,) were working together on it. Holy crap is the art stunning in that game. :Chocola:

You should write more in detail about the games you like, your reviews feel too short at times :makina:

I'm so tempted to start this next year. It feels exactly like something I'd tremendously enjoy (Cannonball vibes?).

I wanted to rant on for days, but I felt like I had to keep it vague to avoid spoiling stuff (/ω\)

I don't like being spoiled before reading things myself, so I prefer reading shorter, non-spoilery reviews, and that rubs off on my own reviews it would seem. There is a few other games I want to write something about, so I'll try to make the next one longer. :P

EDIT: Oh, and I have never played Cannonball, so I have no idea. But, Shirogane is awesome. You definitely should check it out sometime.

It's more like an "OSLVN" though? I think there are even some traslation-related jokes in there. ;) That's why I avoid the "OELVN" term by the way, not all I want to write about fits that category presicely. :)

I don't think that detailed about the term, tbh. If it's not Japanese, it's "OELVN" in my head. To me that just means "Not Japanese VN." :P Perhaps that's kind of "elitist" of me.

Incidentally I actually helped proofread this game, and from what I can recall, the English and Spanish versions were released at the same time, so in a sense it's still an "OELVN."

haha, I will teach you one thing. They're never alone! you better let your landlord know and give them a bill for an exterminator.

Roaches in Japan are more common than grass. They are everywhere. I'd call an exterminator if they were appearing left and right, but there has only been 2 roaches in the entire apartment complex over a 1 month period, and I know where it came from and blocked that entrance, so I think I'm fine.

Now, if that fucking huntsman spider I saw outside the other day came inside, I'd call for help. Preferably from superman or something. That thing was fucking huge X_x

I've been in Japan for a little over a week and I already killed 3 cockroaches... The only thing comforting me (if you can call it that) is that I only had one spider in my room...

Japan is such a scary country...

Ah gawd, yeah. I saw the biggest fucking Huntsman Spider outside the other day... The damn thing was the size of a small tarantula. Luckily it didn't come inside. If it did, I would have jumped on a plane back to Norway right away. :P

Arrived to Japan, it's damn hot and humid, it's horrible!

My residence isn't that great, but will do. Was lost with all the papers and the fatigue. To bo honest, the next few days are going to be hectic. Also I don't have internet, that when having shared rooms help: roommate has the wifi and share with me. But I don't have a transformer for my laptop and everything, so will have to buy one tomorrow.

Anyway, I really hope I'll be able to adapt quickly. Will be horrible for the next few days, but should be better later.

Also, nobody speaks neither French (logic) nor English, so we have to speak in Japanese, and it's very difficult to make understand one self.

Sorry to post here and all, just wanted to post it as an answer to your post, I guess. And sorry for the mistakes, writing quickly to not use too much of my laptop battery.

Yeah, it's a bit rough in the beginning.

I have been here 3 weeks now, and I feel like things have finally normalized. I am used to the food, I'm used to the climate and I'm used to the people and my life at a Japanese university.

Give it some time and you should hopefully get used to it as well.

The language barrier is a problem for some, yeah. They sadly do not speak English very well here, so you are either left with Japanese, or just pointing and gestures, basically. For people like me, who actually came here to study the language specifically, that is a good thing. But, I can see how it's annoying for others who didn't come to study the language / aren't at a level where they can speak very well yet.

Luckily most people here are very nice and patient, so even with broken Japanese, some English words and gestures, you should be able to communicate with most people. :P

Best of luck with your stay, hopefully you get used to things soon.

Dunno about the others, but  I would warn you from expecting much from Biman 3, that game was so disappointing. Good atmosphere/world, but weak as hell story and characters. I might check this one out though.

Hm, that's a shame. This one was very good, so I was hoping the other games would be on the same level. I'll check them out at some point. Hopefully 1-2 are better than 3.

I'm actually going to Japan to study starting from next week for a duration of one year, so it was interesting to read.

    I don't want to go anymore. T_T

Well, more seriously, I hope I'll adapt more easily than you for the food.

Waiting for the good stuff now.

PS: Dumb question, but did you change your browsing habits or take a VPN? Decided I won't download there to be sure, but I want to at least be able to browse in peace without fear. ^^'

Ey, that's cool! Good luck! ^^

The bugs should be dying in like a month or so I believe, so just hang in there for a bit! :sacchan:

I personally got a VPN so I can browse some sites you normally wouldn't be able to in Japan, but my internet speed here is absolutely trash, so I can't really download anything, just browse stuff. I do recommend grabbing a VPN if you are very concerned about privacy/ plan on visitng western websites that are blocked here.

It's not so much that I'd never go to Japan, but I'd never live there. It's probably still a good place to take a vacation.

Pretty much. Actually adjusting to life here is the hard part. Just coming for a vacation is great.

You should try curry sometime. Nan they make in Japan is amazing.

I eat curry at uni for lunch most days. :P

  13. This sounds very interesting. I was thinking of just jumping into the new game that is coming out in August without reading any of the others, (mainly because Rubi-sama made the art for this new one, and I LOVE her art,) but I guess I should read the previous games first.

In what order should one read the games?
