So if I see a character with hair that is pink, very long, styled in an "intake" fashion, parted to one side, and without bangs, I will assume he is a murderer.
    I appreciate this information.

Have you ever wondered what a character's hair style tells you about their identity? I did a little stats analysis using vndb to find out:

There's nothing too surprising in here, but I thought it was fun to examine~

akaritan reacted to Fred the Barber in Fuwa VN Reading Club: Summer 2017 (Everlasting Summer)
I spent quite a lot of time with the game already, and although I won't be playing any for the next couple days, I'm still hoping to finish it on/by Monday. The game is definitely looking to be about medium length, I guess? Not as long as a typical full-price Japanese VN, but also nowhere near as short as something like Eden*, for instance.
At this point I've finished the Slavya, Lena, Alisa, and Semyon routes. Lena was pretty weird throughout, and didn't really work for me (mostly because of the character, in spite of my initial appreciation for the character). Semyon's route was pretty interesting, and Slavya and Alisa were both all right; no complaints there.
Now, brace yourselves: a wall of text complaining about choices is coming.
Honestly, the game is not great about making clear what choices will lead to what kind of outcome: sometimes you just have to go to the right random location to get a scene with a girl. Also, apparently showing curiosity for a girl's interests is often a bad idea: I was surprised to see in the guide that, for instance, trying to figure out what book Alisa is reading is a negative for her, whereas simply saying nothing about the book she's carrying will get you +1 affection (with no feedback after the fact to make this obvious). The game design side of this seems bad, to me, and I'd contrast it with games like, say, Little Busters!, where both the reasoning behind any choice and the outcome of your choices are a lot more obvious:
In LB, before making any decision, you usually have a very good idea of who it will impact and how they will take it. In Everlasting Summer, it's pretty non-obvious a lot of the time how someone is going to react, or often even who will be impacted by certain choices. There was one memorable point in Slavya's route (the last choice) where I literally didn't understand the meaning of either choice, let alone the distinction between them, but apparently there was a right answer and a wrong answer. In LB, people generally react to your decisions quickly and in obviously positive or negative ways, so you can quickly reevaluate (save scum it if you must, but regardless, at least you'll know better next time). In Everlasting Summer, quite often you don't get such obvious reactions, and so when, at the end, you get a bad ending (or even end up on the wrong route, in my case...), you still likely don't quite know what to go back and fuss with to fix it. In LB, even when your decision is a simple "where should I go" decision with no immediate tie to a character in the choices, locations have well-established associations with characters in the game, making those decisions actually thinly-disguised choices of "what girl should I go see?", assuming you have been paying attention to the girl you're going after. It's simplistic, but I find that kind of choice strangely rewarding: they're just as obvious as the simple "pick a girl" choices that you see in lazier games, but somehow more meaningful, and it kind of gives this feel that the game is winking at you. In Everlasting Summer, it often makes you choose a location, but the meaning of it is pretty completely unknowable: go somewhere and run into a random person there for +affection, CG, etc., All in all, on the choices, I kind of feel like I'm perpetually in the dark with Everlasting Summer. Maybe that was the intention (life is, after all, also not so cut-and-dry on what will be the outcome of your choices), but when the end result is the game giving me a bad ending for a character because I chose to go to the boathouse instead of the bus stop on day 3, despite no clues that the bus stop was the magical correct choice for that character on that day, it's just frustrating.
All that said, one thing I do really like is that a lot of the choices aren't simple +/- choices for one character. Instead, quite often your choice leads you to run away from a scene with one character, and then accidentally end up in a scene with another character. These are, in a way, charming and interesting, and I don't mind these very much even though the impact isn't obvious beforehand, since it is obvious immediately afterwards. They're good for rewarding replays when you'll "know better next time", which the game clearly wants to emphasize (I feel kind of bad for bucking that by using a guide, honestly).

Kei's h-scenes are worth it for the laughs (her h-scenes are funny in a weird way, especially the last one), but the others don't really add anything to the game.
I do recommend you follow the route order.  When he made the Acta est Fabula version that is the base for Amantes, Masada designed it so that Kasumi's route serves as an intro, Kei introduces you to the main antagonist, Marie's route serves as the 'golden road' route, and Rea's route finishes things up by revealing every last aspect of the main story.  I suggest doing the Beatrice/Kai side-story after you finish Kei's route.

What kind of horror are you looking for? If you're looking for straight-forward horror with ghosts and gore, the Corpse Party series is probably the go-to. There's also Iwaihime on the untranslated end of things. For psychological horror, you might want to look into Higurashi, or something from the denpa genre, like Sayooshi - this one isn't translated either.

I couldn't recommend this one enough. I love denpa, and it was this VN that got me to fall in love with that genre. According to the TLwiki page, the translation is at 42%. So, probably in a year or two the translation will be done. And maybe they will release a partial patch sometime in between too.
As for already translated titles, Saya no Uta is great. And I've only heard good things about Phenomeno. So I'm vouching for the people who recommended those.

Just started this earlier tonight. I have no idea how the mechanics work, but I just got through Day One, and there sure are a lot of choices right out of the gate! Here's to hoping Kenji doesn't pop up with a bottle of vodka to murder me on the roof for choosing poorly...

So, I badly need something to tide me over until Monmusu Paradox pt. 2 comes out. I want something with good art and a focus on Monster Girls. It doesn't matter if it's untranslated. A good story is preferable, but not 100% necessary.

akaritan reacted to DoctorDiablo in Higurashi Console Arcs (Tokihogushi arc released)
    Project Introduction
This project aims to take all 10 arcs exclusively found on the PS2/DS/PS3 releases of Higurashi When They Cry and port them to PC with full English translation.  It will include the script, graphics, and audio assets from the PS3 version of Higurashi for maximum quality.  This will be done as a mod for Mangagamer's Steam re-release of Higurashi, which makes use of the tech in MG's new Higurashi engine to simplify the porting process, and also directly supports the official release.
Mangagamer is officially releasing English translations of all of the arcs from the various PC releases of Higurashi on Steam.  However, a company called Alchemist made the PS2, DS, and PS3 versions of Higurashi and they added a number of new arcs to the game with each release.  There are 10 new arcs in total, a mix of side stories, what-if scenarios, adaptations of manga arcs, arcs that develop characters that didn't get enough screentime, and an alternate ending for the entire series.  None of those have ever received an official English release, and likely never will because Alchemist went bankrupt in 2016.  So this project will hopefully give Higurashi fans an opportunity to finally read these arcs in English, some of which date back as early as 2007.
Here is the Project Website on GitHub for the Higurashi Console Arcs project.
Right now I'm the primary person contributing to the project, but I'm currently recruiting anyone willing to help.

    Progress
Someutsushi arc - 100% complete Kageboushi arc - 100% complete Tsukiotoshi arc - 100% complete Taraimawashi arc - 100% complete Yoigoshi arc - 100% complete Tokihogushi - 100% complete Miotsukushi Omote - starting now Tokihogushi has been released, bringing the total to 6/10 translated.  The next arc will be Miotsukushi Omote.

    Recruitment
I'm looking for a translator, a translation checker, and an editor or two to help out with the remaining arcs.  The project will get done significantly faster, and with better quality if I have some other people helping me out.  Let me know if you're interested in contributing!

This one is very cute. There isn't too much of a serious story in the game, though. It's more about the interactions with the monster girl that you raise. (It's a raising simulator.) I personally really like the art, though it is a bit unique.
Quite a nice game if you just want cute monster girls. (The game has a harpy and a lamia.)

Finished all four of the initial Chrono Clock routes, getting started on Miu now.
The only one of those four routes I didn't much care for was Misaki's, which is unfortunate since I think Misaki herself is probably my favorite character in the game. Her route just didn't do much for me, somehow. Most of the time, when people talk about forced drama, I tend to perceive the same content as just plain old drama and have no problem with it, but Misaki's route really did feel forced to me. It was also pretty clearly unedited way back when I read it, which kinda sucked. I played DD after that, and ended up taking a long break from the game because DD wasn't really all that appealing to me, and since I had a lot of other stuff going on at the time. When I came back, however, I quite enjoyed the rest of DD's route, even her ending (which I think raised a few people's hackles). After that, I knocked out (up?) Michiru, who provided a pleasant surprise of a route for me—the character dynamic in her route isn't one I recall seeing before in any VN, and I quite liked it. Also, I've come to grips with the fact that little sister characters are a turn-on for me. At last, a VN fetish I'm on board with. Yay? Finally, I picked up Makoto (I was saving hottest girl for last), who once again provided an enjoyable route, especially towards the end. It wasn't stellar or deep or anything, but it was a fun ride with a fun heroine. I gotta say, Chrono Clock really has very different heroine personalities, compared to most VNs. I keep mentally contrasting it with Princess Evangile: they're both clearly moege trading on their heroines' appeal, but where every girl in Princess Evangile felt she'd come straight out of a cookie cutter, every heroine in Chrono Clock has a lot of distinctive flair. Whether it's the tsundere being 95% dere instead of your typical 95% tsun, or the little sister being a demure, ladylike, blind girl with a roaring libido, they just all feel special.
I also think the translation did an excellent job of capturing those characters' uniqueness. In spite of all the flak it's taken, and in spite of me not really enjoying some of the decisions they made (particularly the frequent use of British English, and not just by DD), I think this is a pretty damn good TL, and that's making it even more of a pleasure to read.
I'm looking forward to getting through Miu and Cro and finally putting the game to bed, after having stalled it for a couple months.
