  2. For working with .arc archives, I found the program AE V0.6.11.421. Now all that's left is to find a tool for editing scripts.

  4. Ive made a dumb automation script with gpt yes i know machine is doo doo Man is best when it comes to translation but their is strength in metal also im using translated text from gpt waving through its garbage and reading/comparing the JP text and then fixing any issues its total doo doo but should work
  5. Welcome to Fuwanovel and sorry for the belated greeting, @cheeriofujisaki. If possible, you can tell on which great ways of VNs that you want to learn (Either by asking more recommendations or on how to translate the VNs), and that way we may be able to help you. Nevertheless, I hope that you'll have fun in here.
  6. It's Mother's Day, and to celebrate we'll explore some of the parental figures in VNs! Despite MCs usually being teenagers, parents are usually shoved offscreen and are a rarity to ever see mentioned. But today we'll showcase the moms and dads who stand in the spotlight!
  7. Could you please share the tools you used? The most I've been able to find are broken links and uncompiled source code.
  8. This is a condensed version of the full article which can be found on my Main Blog Here. The Enemy Within Sometimes we just need a little danger to add some excitement to our lives, but do not want to actually put ourselves in harms way so we turn to the Thriller. This genre has had a long history of fiction covering everything from spies to crime in order to keep the reader on their toes. In many ways it is similar to another genre visual novels thrive in, Horror, since both rely on invoking feelings of tension in the player although the Triller is more interested in the thrill than outright fear as an end result. Tension on an intimate level is by far the medium’s greatest strength so the Thriller fits nicely into what it has to offer and gives a sense of animated humanity to scenes where the tension is at its thickest. Thrillers are a flexible design space for games since they can easily assimilate aspects of other genres making it especially appealing to developer’s who want to add some spice to an otherwise simple experience. However, just like with anything it has to be handled properly or it can overwhelm all other flavours and turn people off completing the meal. So let’s uncover a conspiracy and discover how visual novels have utilised the Thriller. Tension In The Smallest Movements The threat of danger is often more effective at holding a player in suspense than open displays of violence. A simple everyday conversation takes on new life when we know one of the people involved could kill the other if they feel like it. This dance of masks and intentions is the main hallmark of the Thriller and requires a subtlety and deftness that visual novels find easy to accommodate. Their limited means of presenting narratives leads to them making the most out of every movement and turn of phrase which is exactly how a tense scene gets much of its mileage. When the player knows something violent might be about to happen they tend to start to comb every twitch of the eyebrow or the way something is described in order to avoid the potential negative outcome. Thrillers take advantage of this inherent fear of the consequences of conflict to generate excitement, obviously the player knows they are not really in danger but they are willing to put that aside and be pulled into the space of play established through the visual novel. For a good example of how this works in practice we can look to The Devil On G-String and any scene where Azai Gonzou is present. This yakuza boss is a constant source of danger for the protagonist, but it is never entirely clear if that is immediate or if he is just playing with them. Gonzou has a large presence any time he is on screen despite not being a man of many words and instead he makes his position of power clear through a no-nonsense approach where the violence of his occupation is implied in his every action. The player is made to jump at his subtle changes in expression and the way his words are presented on screen through the developer’s constant quiet shifting of how these elements come across. Sometimes the player does no need a single clear person to feel in danger and instead the idea that anybody the characters talk to could be a murder is often more powerful. Kara No Shoujo has a series of horrific killings and places a number of characters in front of the player who are just as likely to be responsible as they are to be next victim in order to make every interaction with them hold an underlying tension. While this is nowhere near as directly potent as the single person conversation, it does have a more continued presence in the mind of the player and subtly pulls on their thoughts. It also means the visual novel can provide a paced and even rising tension that overflows into a more direct type of thrill at the climax. This makes it the preferred type for games intending to have a longer duration or include mystery elements where relying on direct conflict may not be a reasonable narrative option. Paranoia Is A Man’s Best Friend Having an easy to pinpoint source of danger is not a requirement to create a sense of thrill, after all we can conjure up monster where none exist. Employing the sense that someone or something is out to get the characters but providing enough room to doubt the truth of those feelings and not giving the player anything too solid to grasp onto makes for an abstract sense of danger. The mind has a tendency of reaching the most negative conclusions from the information it is given and for the Thriller this is shaped into a palpable paranoia. Once in place the grasp it has on the player’s thoughts helps build a tension in every activity the characters perform. Is this going to be the moment when the shadows come for them? Questions like this circle the mind and the developer can use cues to get their desired reaction while guiding the story forward. An extension of this approach is the unreliable narrator who the player has no other choice but to work with as the point of view they have been given. This leads to an uneasy and distrustful relationship with a narrative force which is normally on the player’s side leading to another layer of paranoia. It also gives a good sense of catharsis when the truth about the protagonist lies comes out and the player is on the same level as them again. Excitement In A Static Medium Generating a sense of action and climax at the end of a Thriller when everything come together to pay off a game’s worth of setup is a sizeable challenge for the predominantly static medium of visual novels. In order to create these heart pumping moments they must instead look to what is at stake in this conflict and make sure it is brought to the front at every possible moment. This way each game can lean into their strengths and utilise other forms of climax that are more a battle of wits than a fist fight. Being focused around the thoughts in the characters heads as they try to outwit one another acts as a better source of resolution to a subtle tension or paranoia style of Thriller discussed above and this forms a more complete experience than any form of direct action scenes could hope to achieve. Despite visual novel’s static nature, they do have some tool for dynamic feeling actions through shifting character portraits, CG’s and backgrounds which allow them to fine-tune the work done by the narrative and sell this as the moment where everything is up for grabs. Umineko provides us with an example of how a visual novel can achieve a thrilling finale even with its static nature. Mysteries and the examination of them is a the core of Umineko and as you would expect this means the climax of each episode is an exercise in problem solving and a battle of wits. In practice this is just two or more people standing opposite each other and debating the issue and on the surface this seems like it might not be exciting, but when placed in context it is one of the most trilling things in any game. This is achieved through a mixing of the high stakes riding on every word spoken and the interesting mysteries that appear to have two distinctly different but incompatible answer to them. The player is kept in suspense about the fate of the character they have grown to like and by their lack of knowledge about which truth is the correct one as all sides make some extremely compelling arguments. Umineko wrings every drop out this dynamic in order to compensate for its lack of visual quality and it worked wonders as the passionate playerbase has shown. Conclusion There is an undeniable parallel between the natural intensity and intimacy present in visual novels and a Thriller’s aim of creating an exciting and tense narrative. Crafting a feeling of danger from the tiny details of a scene is something visual novels have the ability to lean into due to the limited design space available to them and this gives the Thriller fertile ground to keep the heart racing even in what should be low stakes moments. The feeling of paranoia brought on by an unclear antagonistic force or an unreliable narrator provide the medium a means of forming a continuous tension within a Thriller. Through playing off the strong sense of high stakes and more battle of wits centric stories a text heavy game tends towards, a visual novel can lead its Thriller to an appropriate climax. Alongside Horror, the Thriller is perhaps the most compatible genre with the strengths of the medium.

  10. I've been devouring web novels for some time now, so I have a pretty wide experience (within my preferred genres). My preferences probably won't match many of yours, but I figured I would make some recommendations like I used to with visual novels. Isekai'd+Overpowered/cheat protagonist Death March Kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukoku (https://ncode.syosetu.com/n9902bn/)- Despite the anime being a flop, this is easily one of the best fantasy web novel series of the type. In addition, the LN version differs so greatly from the web novel that you can actually enjoy them completely separately from one another, which makes them double the fun. Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou (https://ncode.syosetu.com/n8611bv/)- Yes, the anime was mostly crap (except for Yue being a vampire goddess), but the web novel is awesome. It was also something of a trendsetter, setting the gold standard for the 'betrayed protagonist rises to be the strongest' trope. The web novel has a huge advantage over the light novel series in that the after-story (which is now longer than the original story) is godly and immensely fun to read. My Classmates were Summoned to Another World but I was Reincarnated (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816452221074480581)- Basically, the protagonist dies during the summoning and gets reincarnated as a true vampire by the ditzy goddess of the world her classmates were summoned to and goes on a self-indulgent journey/adventure/rampage across the surface of the other world. The protagonist is definitely chaotic neutral in personality, though her actions often split off into chaotic good and chaotic evil depending on who she is dealing with. For people who want to laugh at a protagonist's absolutely insane antics, this is a good choice. Isekai ni Houchi-ge Riron o Mochikondara Isekai Saikyou ni Nareru Isetsu (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16817330652291194063)- Basically a gamer gets reborn into a rather harsh and massive fantasy isekai, where he uses sorcery to create autonomous spells that go around killing monsters so he can level up faster. He is a leveling addict and this story, like most of this author's stories, is full of insane characters (including the protagonist and heroine). This is one of the few male protagonist WN series I've met that doesn't include a harem. Toriaezu Shinu Wa (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816700427424058338)- Made by the same author as Houchi-ge, it was his pilot work. It is complete (this author follows through and consistently posts his works, so you don't need to worry about fade-outs), so you can just dive in and read from the beginning to the end. In this one, the protagonist and his class get summoned to another world, and when he finds out some of his nastier classmates intend to assassinate him, he uses the plot to get out of town (faking his death) and gain his freedom. This one is pretty dark, the protagonist actively committing genocide and purges against religion (though the religion deserves it), and his girlfriend is a psychotic yandere who is incapable of empathy for anyone but him. However, the character personalities in this one are really well presented, which matches this author's style. Paradigm Parasite (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054891938248)- Protagonist is reborn as a parasite that possesses the corpse of a young noble and proceeds to rampage across the psychotic isekai he ended up in. He is utterly cold-blooded, pragmatic, and predatory by nature. This is a pure chaotic evil protagonist acting on his worst instincts throughout much of the story. Isekai'd+Adventurer/Not overpowered Jiriki de Isekai he! (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054941828435)- By coincidence, the protagonist manages to create a magic circle that transports him to another world... by killing him. The god who greets him informs him that his actions count as suicide, thus he won't be granted any special rewards. He is reborn as an orphan and regains his memories by accident, his skill (not a cheat skill) activating for the first time as a result of a near-death experience. He sets out to become an adventurer, living his isekai life as best he can. This series is complete, so you can just dive in and read it from beginning to end. Karyoku no Nai Kaze Mahoutsukai wa, Isekai nite Ken de Mau (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16817330652107435856)- An excellent story for those who want a reincarnated protagonist who isn't overpowered and lives his life as an adventurer. The protagonist is half-halfling, half-giant in a world that is a half-step away from the age of mythology. Annainin wa Isekai no Jukai o Samayou (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054918935123)- Protagonist falls through a gate to another world and is forced to become an adventurer in order to survive. Eventually, he is able to return to Earth and becomes a 'guide', teaching people how to survive on the other world. Modern Fantasy/dungeons (sometimes with an isekai'd then returned protagonist) Isekai Kara Kikan Shitara Chikyuu ga Fantasy Deshita. Ato, Make Heroine domo, Kocchi Minna (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16817330650225915619)- This one focuses on a protagonist who succeeds in killing the evil god in another world and returns to earth, only to once again face his childhood friend presenting his newest lover to him with a victorious expression. However, he doesn't care at all, as he is finally free of the hell of the other world! (He really, really hates the isekai). This series is mostly humorous as Nacchan's manic personality and immense power meets Earth's fantasy beings in clashes that are usually disastrous for the fantasy beings. Shachiku Kensei, Haishinsha ni Naru (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16817330657186803576)- Mix of dark humor and overpowered action as a guy in a business suit explores the depths of dungeons. It is updated irregularly but even just what is there so far is worth reading. Seikatsu Mahoutsukai no Gekokujou (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816452218254294002)- Oppressed protagonist with a gift for the weakest school of magic discovers the sage system for his school of magic and develops it for combat, eventually becoming a famous dungeon crawler and magic developer. Series is complete and the battles are pretty cool. While technically the protagonist is overpowered, that is because he works hard at it and discovers ways to deal with the situations he encounters. Maou o Taoshite Gendai ni Kaetekitara Parallel World Deshita! (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054888599901)- An overpowered isekai protagonist returns to earth with his divine fox lover, only to find that he returned to a parallel world where dungeons emerged during WWII. The story is mostly ecchi+action+people being people. The series is complete. Onmyouji/Youkai/Modern Fantasy Gendai Onmyouji wa Tensei Lead de Musou Suru (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816927863187332284)- The protagonist is reborn into a version of Japan where youkai and onmyouji are still at war with one another and uses his self-awareness to prepare for his future by building up his power young. Pretty fun to read, still ongoing if slowly so. Inousha ga Futsuu ni Iru Sekai he Tensei Shitara (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816452218603293395)- Protagonist is reborn into what he thinks is a game world in the body of a villain who does pretty horrible things to most of the heroines. This series is pretty dark, and it becomes evident (through other perspectives) that this isn't actually a game world early on. The protagonist is technically overpowered, but so are a lot of the enemies and one of the main heroines. It shows the dark and hard sides of harems and political marriages as well, so for people who want a 'happy harem' story, this isn't a good choice. Demon Ruler (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054882154317)- Salaryman protagonist gains access to pocket dimensions where he can take out his daily stress on real monsters and gain money and power. Quite naturally, he enthusiastically dives into his new hobby. Fun to read, gets more apocalyptic after a while. Anata no Tenshoku wa 'Daiyoukai' Desu (https://ncode.syosetu.com/n2559fp/)- One of my all-time favorites. The protagonist lives in a future where humanity's population once fell to critical levels and only recovered through the use of the 'oracle' system, which tells people their ideal occupations. When he uses it, it tells him his ideal occupation is being 'a great youkai', and he is introduced to the real reason why the system exists... to balance the supernatural with the natural. The protagonist is more than a little crazy, his adopted mother is Tamamo no Mae, his adopted father is Shuten-doji, and his adopted grandfather is Sojou-bou (he is actually descended from all three). This series has a lot of dark laughter, interesting action, and a few moments that will have you weeping until snot flows out of your nose. Too bad this author's other works are sub-par at best, lol. Fantasy, not from Earth Kami-sama ni Muriyari Ikikaesareta (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16816452220822010394)- This begins as the sad tale of a young orphan boy (recently deceased saving a little girl from a wolf) faces the goddess who broke her promise and failed to protect his mother and himself. As a result, she tries to revive him, but he demands that he be allowed to die, drawing the attention of higher beings, starting a series of events that eventually results in him being granted access to all class skills and resurrected with two divine guardians. This is not a tale of a guy doing whatever the hell he wants and making a mess of the world. Rather, it is the tale of a boy who has suffered so much he no longer reacts to the little pains and reacts to others with cold rationality, ignoring most of the social rules in the process. The protagonist is rather wordy when he thinks someone is doing something wrong, and he has no hesitation about confronting people with it. Kurotobi no Seija (https://ncode.syosetu.com/n9105fz/)- Cleric makes a deal with a dark god for power to get back at those who exiled him. Decent read for those who don't want an Earthling protagonist.
  11. Well @debativel welcome to the club Fuwanovel has some pretty good content to read.
  12. on vndb there are unofficial patches for chinese. Go look at what the chinese did and have a addon to translate everything you read on the webpage as you read and maybe you might find what your looking for also use the wayback machine if the links are dead
  13. Hi, everyone! For this month's release I had a crack at writing one of the oldest unwritten story paths in the game. The part where Kyou has second thoughts about what he's doing right at the end of Penlight's very first storyline: Delusion. I haven't really looked back at my old work all that much, so this was an interesting experience. I think what's there mostly holds up pretty well, although there's a fair amount of early installment weirdness with how the characters express themselves. Not to mention the sprite art has advanced so much since those early days! With that in mind, I couldn't resist making tons of little tweaks to the script and sprite animations to bring it more in line with the rest of the game. Nothing fundamental's been changed, but I think it looks a little better now. As for the new writing... well, it's unfinished as I dithered with the script and then completely ran out of time. Still, what's there lays out how things will go for Kyou after making such a last minute swerve from total disaster. I hope it makes enough sense at least, and I'll be wanting to finish it off real soon~ Like always you can find this month's release in PC, Linux, Mac and Android versions on my SubscribeStar, Patreon or itch.io pages. I've also linked the most recent flowchart guide on the latest public news post on Patreon. Oh and before I forget, I had a CG made for the ending of last month's story path on Hiroko's route, so do go back and check that out! What's New WRITING: New script added to the Delusion storyline for when Kyou agrees with the girls during the climactic sceneWRITING/CODE: Numerous little tweaks and adjustments to the script and sprites during the Delusion storylineART: New CG has been made that appears in the latest ending of the Hiroko Ticklish storylineWord count is now around 421,000LOCALIZATION: Various edits and corrections to the existing Spanish scriptSome typo and grammar corrections
  14. I'm looking for tools to work with a vn called "A Maiden's Woven Canvas of Love". - https://vndb.org/v7794 I need tools that can decrypt and encrypt scripts in the .wsc format. I also need tools for working with .arc archives of the old WillPlus format.
  15. https://vndb.org/r110474 It hasn't released yet, still being QC'ed. You should really check VNDB for this stuff. The only way to legally obtain Tsui no Sora Remake is to buy the subahibi 10th anniversary, which I'm pretty sure it's on getchu at the very least. If you want to obtain it illegally then you'll have to ask on some other site, pretty sure it's against the rules here.
  16. I had to create an account just so I can THANK YOU AS YOU SHOULD!!! OMG, it instantly brought a big smile into my face. It actually worked. Pure genius.
  17. Since that is a technical question regarding the forum software, only a mod, like Clephas would be able to answer that. Try messaging them or quoting one of their posts to get their attention.
  18. wow that's a lot of info. Thank you for helping me out! I will look into the methods you recommended
  19. Also how do i upload profile pics without broken images or blobs of blue/pink/green pixals
  20. Marimo and Yuuhi routes done partial now its time for Class rep and Mikoto then after that im starting supplement or i might do miki's route aint sure yet. and once supplements done Schwarzesmarken
  21. I did come across one recently, but that was with a male lead. Usually you just search VNDB for that sort of thing. The score on the left is how much of that genre/tag is included in the game and the Rating on the right is what other people thought of the game. Adding female protagonist to the list makes it smaller. You can also try searching through https://nepchan.org/ .
  22. Most AI API providers assume you can write basic code yourself. Even though about a year and a half has passed since AI really took off, this is still very early in terms of software development since software development takes time, especially for quality software. There are not a lot of good options right now, and almost all of them require tinkering and being very familiar with the particulars of both the model you are using and the API you are working with. A short 100 line python program could do it, but you would have to plug in your data manually and format it or whatever. Some examples are DazedMTLTool, Translator++, SLR Translator, and a handful of other projects on github in various states of development. Dazed is ChatGPT only. Translator++ is DRM'd paid software that requires constant internet connection to validate your patreon account, the AI addons cannot be used otherwise. SLR Translator is not yet released but should have some AI addons shortly after it is released. Shortly means like within a few months. DeepL has also started to incorporate AI into their API as well, so you can just submit a prompt that has extra information for DeepL to consider when generating their output. They are not currently charging for this but like... they are going to very soon, so use it while you can. DeepL is free for the first 500k characters/month. All other APIs are paid/rate limited. If you want to do unlimited, then you basically have to run AI yourself locally using KoboldCpp or similar programs and write your own software to interface with it. That said, IDK of any software that has working DeepL API + prompt translations working, so you are back to writing it yourself territory there. If you just want basic translations, NMTs are much easier to use. Personally use my repackage for the Sugoi v4 NMT model. It has an easy to use Web UI written by one of the server authors, so I just dump the raw text in there and get it back right away. But NMT models, like Sugoi v4, are not AI obviously, they are the precursor to contemporary AI. They are basically free though 500+ lines in ~30s to calculate w/CUDA, and they provide a good basis to create edited MTL patches as long as you are willing to take a bit of time to format the output yourself. Edited MTL is better quality than AI generated TLs because it means a human looked at the output, so do not look down on NMTs too much. Just because AIs are the superior successor technology does not mean they produce superior output without A LOT of fiddling and certainly they do not compare well against edited NMT translations at all. In terms of quality: Human translator > Edited MTL (AI or NMT) > MTL (AI) > MTL (NMT) > MTL (Dictionary) In terms of cost and ease of use: MTL (Dictionary) > MTL (NMT) > MTL (AI) > Edited MTL (AI/NMT) > Human translator
  23. Its ok that you can't help. I use WINE to run visual novels on my Mac so I might be able to figure out a locale change on there. I'll try to use a sandbox app or whatever it is. I haven't had experience dealing with them in the past so I'll have to look into how to get it to run.
