Well, whenever I see Rooke in a thread, I immediately think that his post is about prose.
I was proven wrong in this thread, but it's still an association I commit most of the time.
    Also, about this...
We pronounce it in-ven-to-ry, but we're not really a country of origin for the English language. I guess its because of how syllabic our own national language is.

A little bit of story that probably nobody cares about:

    https://vndb.org/v4767
    Length:
    1 and a half hour.
    Description
A lone girl, wearing a tattered school uniform, lives on a dry river bed. She can't go to school, has no house, not even a tent... just a helpless, lonely girl. She searches garbage cans for food to survive every day. And whenever she is found by vagrants or delinquents, she becomes their plaything. Gang-raped, disgraced, forced to drink semen, dirtied, abused, scorned...
This is a visual poem about her everyday life.
    Staff:
Translator and some very bad image editing: me.
Programming, hacking, images editor and pretty much everything else: Schwarzstorch (he did an amazing job)
    QC: Arcadeotic, OutoftheBox.
    Looking for testers!
    Progress:
    Translation progress: 100%
    TLC:100%
    QC:100%

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/afc399js0trmsd8/patch.xp3  <-------- final patch.
    Installation:
Place the file inside the game folder, go to text display and choose MS 明朝 or MS ゴシック, you can install other fonts but the text will overlap in some places so I don't recommend doing that. (this is a problem with the engine and how the text works inside the vn itself, there is no way to make every font look properly at the same time.)
    Q&A:
    Q:Where can I buy it?
    A: http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE063753
    Q:Why a nukige vn?
    A:It's not nukige.
    Q:But is full of eroge...
    A:It's not a nukige!

    Q:Why this vn?
A:Because I love utsuge, it is fairly easy (most of the time) and is pretty short.

    Q:Your translation sucks!
A:That's not an question, but hey you can translate it yourself or help me fixing the many mistakes I'm sure the translation has.

    Q:So...why a nu...
A:For the last time, this is not a nukige!!! It has a lot of eroge, granted, but that's not what this vn is about, it will make you cry, want to pull your eyes out, cry some more and maybe laugh maniacally at some point, it is a pure hard utsuge, depressing to the very end without any fantasy bullshit, not girl with wings, no ghosts or anything like that, I wouldn't say is 100% realistic but pretty close.

Q:Why are you translating in a such literal way?
A:Because that's my approach to translations, I think the reader should interpret the text without any changes, like if he/she was reading it in the original language, this doesn't always work and when I think it is absolutely impossible to get what the text says I do change it but only in those particular cases, if you have a brain, use it and you will understand the meaning of a sentence even if I don't "Americanize it".
Q: Would you look back in a few years thinking "why did I start that translation? is awful D:"
A:No, I did this translation first of all for myself and I wanted to share it with everyone else but again this was a project for me, if it is bad or good it doesn't matter to me so if you don't like ti then too bad. I wanted to prove something to myself which now that the novel is finished I think I did and that's that.
    Images:

I do take suggestion into account (even if I don't agree with some of themI take them seriously) so feel free to share them I know there is a lot to improve!
NOTE: This is a project I'm doing mostly for myself, to see if I can translate something that is not from EN>SP and for the love that I have for this vn, which is really underrated. In the beginning it was fun but right now is becoming more like a chore rather than a fun project   but i will finish it.

Rose reacted to Lekkuen in Book of Zhu: Legacy
Book of Zhu: Legacy is a visual novel starring Aya, princess, martial artist, and future empress of the Zhu empire, who will find herself faced with the reality of what the future holds for her. The world depicted in-game is inspired by Wuxia films, as well as anime such as Fist of the North Star, Kenichi, and Katanagatari, and is being painstakingly brought to life by my team and I for this Visual Novel and beyond. Over the course of the game you will experience firsthand the upper class of society within the country of Zhu, glimpses of the larger world, and of course many martial arts battles.

The game will follow a central storyline focusing on Aya and how her life starts to change over the course of about a year, with differing choices available that change the details presented during the story and what aspects of the world come into focus.
In addition to the central storyline there are several side paths focusing on specific characters that are mostly determined by who you spend the most time with and whose story you progress the most during the early parts of the game, though some alternate versions of paths are triggered by hidden flags and events. Some of these will be romantic in focus, but others will allow you to see different sides of various characters, experience different aspects of the world, as well as different fight sequences.

The game will also be free.

Aya: The protagonist, heiress to both the Imperial Throne and her family's martial arts style. She is a girl eager to prove herself as both a future leader and a fighter to her mother, the Empress.

Rin: Aya's cousin and a fellow princess. She is renowned for both her beauty and talent in the magical arts. She doesn't take her position seriously and prefers to indulge in pleasure instead of studying or training.

Rani: Aya's loyal bodyguard and best friend. Despite living in the palace she has a reputation as a thug and spends a lot of her free time dealing with low-lifes and delinquents.

Dokura : Rani’s mother, loyal retainer for the Imperial family, and one of the Empire's most respected warriors. She is seen by Aya as an aunt of sorts, someone always looking out for her that she can turn to.

The Empress: Aya's mother and the absolute ruler of their people. She is loved as a living representation of Zhu tradition and feared for the swift and harsh retribution that tradition demands. For better or worse every action she makes is part of a legacy she will leave behind for Aya someday.

There are many more characters than just those, so expect more soon.

Lekkuen (me):  Head Designer/Head Writer - The creator of the setting and main creative voice behind the project.

Mahenbu:  Lead Artist - An artist who has worked on several games and other projects. He draws the character sprites and the fight sequence, and dictates the overall art style. http://mahenbu.deviantart.com/

Missing: Artist - An artist who has been a part of several visual novels, he is drawing all of the backgrounds present within the game as well as helping with overall world design. http://lordless.deviantart.com/

Startwo: A pair of artists who have been essential toward bringing the overall look of the setting together. They put in a lot of work towards helping to design the outfits and general look/feel of the setting. While only a select few things will be drawn by them, a lot of their work will be in the art book and related projects. http://www.startwo.net/

Hollow Ataraxia happens after Fate... But that one is a fandisc and story-wise it doesn't have a lot to offer. It will give you more of the FSN characters, though.
Fate/Extra and Fate/Extra CCC are PSP games and don't really have anything to do with the main universe of the series, other than having a few cameos... CCC is like the best thing ever if you're a Sakura fan, though.
Fate/Zero is a prequel-sequel anime, dealing with the story of Emiya Kiritsugu and the previous holy grail war.
The Fate series is generally linked to Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai, and people slap them together as the "Nasuverse" - Tsukihime is more dated than Fate and the stories going on are unrelated, but they're of the same type and have the same atmosphere (I'm yet to meet someone who likes one and doesn't like the other, lol.)
After you read Tsukihime you can also watch the Carnival Phantasm anime, which is a crossover between Fate and Tsukihime and quite possibly the most rolf thing I've ever watched.
Kara no Kyoukai is a great series of anime movies, too.
While you'll see very few relations between characters in those series, they all share the same lore, so to speak.
If you don't mind older art, I'd definitely start with Tsukihime (the VN. The tsukihime anime is probably one of the worst abominations I've seen, and the fandom has a running gag that "there is no tsukihime anime" because of how bad that was), though the Fate/Zero anime is also a great place to go.

The Japanese VN industry as a whole is unlikely to die... but I imagine we'll see a massive shrink (60% seems likely) in commercial VNs over there when the final barriers go down.
As for the industry over here... the saturation of Steam is an issue, but not as big of one as you might think.  Initial investment (edit: referring to investment per product, rather than investment in the project as a whole) for digital releases is the tiniest fraction of initial investments for physical releases, so companies can still make a decent profit off of minimal sales through a proxy (in the original meaning of the word) service like Steam.  Unfortunately, the saturation of Steam at present (just looking at all the dross that is building up on Steam makes me want to sigh with exasperation) means that people looking for VNs or interested in trying them are much more likely to drop out of the market entirely if they buy a game that is a 'miss'.  On the other hand, impulse buys during sales like the one this weekend will tend to create brief bursts of revenue for the  companies in question that can potentially justify taking the long view on localization profit issues.
Edit2: Now that I'm done faking being an optimist...  The thing with Steam bares a rather eerie resemblance to that of the 'first video game age', in the early eighties, when the bottom fell out of a glutted video game market.  On the other hand, the much smaller investment in each 'copy' of the game means that the actual risk after development or localization is over is far lower if you are focusing on digital releases...
Nonetheless, I find it hard to be optimistic about Japan's end, because:
    1) Omake culture ( love of physical swag)
    2) A cultural inability to abandon physical copies in most commercial VNs
    3) Social pressure against certain types of fetishism is rising (rapegames and lolige)
    4) 'Modern' Japanese otakus tend to have less money now than they did ten years ago due to the economy
    5) Market culture is stagnant, lacks innovation even within the limits of current trends.

Hello! I am an illustrator and I love graphic novels and I especially love drawing concept art, character designs and background works. I would love to be involved in a VN project in the future.

These are a few examples. I am very stylistic but I can easily tweak my art to fit a specific style and I work well with deadlines.
I work with Sai, Photoshop, and After Effects so I can animate as well.
If you would like more examples of my artwork or would like to see something specific PM me, please. Thank you.

Strictly speaking, Visual Novels aren't so much becoming popular as getting closer to mainstream media in the eyes of readers and gamers, rather than just being the smallest portion of the otaku market.  This is mostly because of the release in recent years of a disproportionately large number of non-ero VNs, which lowered the hurdle for playing them for a lot of people.
However, on the other side of things, that also means that VNs will never be much more popular than they are now...

    Pretty much this.
Indeed there has been a greater influx of VNs being released in the West, but I wouldn't really call that becoming popular since they're just catering to the niche of people that exist here. It's still very hard for VNs to target people in the gaming community because it's such a different format.
As Joey himself said, most of the really popular titles are VN/gameplay hybrids because they combine elements people here are familiar with and thus they're easier to get into, but the actual strictly story based titles only sell okay with a few exceptions like Nekopara or the Sakura games (but let's be honest, we all know the story is not the reason those games sold well).
