Good morning everybody,
Tonight I'm planning on finishing the update process for the forums (including all themes) as well as finalizing some back-end sharing necessary for Emi to take over my admin duties. I'm still alive and around, paying for the site (etc.), but enough is enough and this is what needs to happen.

To me it feels like somebody wanted to have him work on this since he was known for writing horror, but they didn't realize what made his previous works good and gave him too many constraints for the actual writing. It's funny how this VN completely contradicts what Ryukishi himself believes about writing good horror.
By the way, I'm currently at chapter 5, and it made my impression even worse than I wrote in my previous post. It just went in the most cliche direction possible. Honestly, I'll probably try reading it a bit more, but I'm very close to following @Silvz's advice and just dropping it completely.

A VN isn't coming immediately to mind other than Umineko, which @Silvz already recommended.
If you don't mind reading a manga or watching an anime, Monster by Naoki Urasawa might be just what you are looking for. The main character goes on a huge quest after discovering that a boy whose life he saved years ago grew up to be a serial killer. There is also a character later on in the series who was responsible for several tragedies, but who retires from public life and is living the remainder of his life in guilt of what he's done. Both the anime and manga of Monster are excellent, so you can't go wrong with either.

Well, if you don't really mind trading some bad sex for some good story, you should read Key games - specially Clannad and Little Busters!, but if you enjoy those, just go on to the other ones. You may find out that LB has +18 content, but it's an agreement in the community that it is terrible and shouldn't be read by human eyes. Seriously.
 
If you liked Koichoco, try Aokana. It's from the same company and all. Very different, but a great game, probably better than Koichoco - and it is +18!
 
If you enjoy yuri, there's Kindred spirits on the roof. It's incredible, with great story, characters, romance and some sex.

I was thinking Beauty and the Beast but Fata Morgana is a good read too.

For side characters - Clannad perhaps (Nagisa's parents - Akio and Sanae)? And for main - The Language of Love comes to mind.

Worse than Akagoei, in terms of being incomplete.  Akagoei at least pretended to have actual endings, as short and unsatisfying as they were until the FD came out.  If they had released a sequel within six months, I might have been willing to forgive them, but even then, I still would have had major complaints.  This game's potential was wasted entirely because the producers didn't rein in Kinugasa's love of never finishing anything.  The non-true heroine paths are pathetically short and the true heroine's path essentially shuts down in the middle of things, where the action would have begun to get going in any decent game.  Worse, there is no guarantee of a sequel, despite them having set up to easily graft one on, because Kinugasa's tendency to never finish anything extends to everything he does.

So, I was reading this masterpiece solely for the story and was going to skip the sex, when my mother simply invaded my bedroom and saw Sensei with her ass/vagina open to the screen. Now, she thinks I''m a pervert and that I was fapping.
Worst thing: I'm gay and she knows that.

Actually, I already finished Adabana a while back, by somewhat questionable means since I didn't exactly have a choice. I'm glad to see it made available on more platforms and would honestly love to buy it now just to show my appreciation for it, but the fact that ANIPLEX seem to be vehemently insistent on keeping it geoblocked on Steam doesn't sit well with me. Until that's taken care of, they won't be getting any money from me.
