Everybody's making posts when they reach 1k posts or 2k posts or 3k posts, but I will probably not reach these before 2017 so there's that, tbh I am mostly not active because I am really inept when it comes to anime and visual novels , I am not like all these people here I basically have very little knowledge about the vn scene and all of it came from fuwa and I have very few vns under my belt and they all came from fuwa too.
 
I have been around since november 2013, thou I was just a lurker who came here and downloaded porn games , man these days, I felt out of place for not playing grisaia no kajitsu when everyone was playing it , good old days~
I still haven't finished grisaia no kajitsu ... *ahem* I always felt a little awkward to talk but then during the summer of 2014 I joined Steve's teamspeak then Ren's teamspeak (as Red Beam if anyone recalls me). I became somewhat active from time to time because that was the time of the removal of the licensed games. I also joined FSG at that time.
After that happened by few months, another argument was made for the removal of all the torrents. Then a guy who came to overthrow the administration of fuwa and create another one came (?) Now that I think about it , I have experienced many good exciting days on fuwa. And I wish that I will continue to spend more of these days! 
 
So to everybody on fuwa (even if you don't know me) , I love all of you guys and I hope that I will stay with you forever and ever (ok that's an exaggeration but at least for some more time , ok? ok)

I'm sorry if a similar thread had been posted before, but I just wanted to help those people having problem playing VNs, for you who do, here's some VN troubleshootings:





3. It's a golden rule for VNs so you should've known it but I'll tell it again, play those VNs with Japanese locale (not ntleas/applocale/applocale/locale emulator, they're not always working). If you got it by installation, make sure you install the game with Japanese locale too, since some games unable to write the right file names with other locales. The point is so that the game could read/write non-unicode characters correctly.

4. If your Directx or video card/display driver is old, update them. You can check your device driver's here (through the control panel):



The highlighted option is "disable" but what you should check is the "update driver" option.

5. If it crashed/freeze/show a black screen while playing videos, install some codecs using K-Lite codec pack or CCCP. Many games would freeze/show a black screen when it tries to play a video you don't have the codec for.

6. Some games need a certain font, and won't work correctly (for example when you see jumbled words/lines) before you installing the font, so make sure you've installed them before playing. Some of them should be incluced with the installer though. But, if you don't find the font you needed for the game included in the game folder, you need to install it. Some examples are:
Kimi no Nagori wa Shizuka ni Yurete needs BSVM font Galaxy Angel needs Consolas font Steins;Gate needs Droid Sans Fallback font Cross Channel needs Inconsolata font Kamidori Alchemy Meister needs Meiryo font, it will even crash if you don't install the font and some others 7. If you have problems installing in C:\Program Files or any default installation folders, try to install it in another folder. It's recommended to install your game outside C:\Program Files in Windows 8/7/Vista due to legacy issues with how the OS handles the Programs Files folders and how older games modify files within those folders.
8. Sometimes you need to deactivate Windows DEP/ User right management for some games.

9. Somes games' files could be detected as malware/trojan by antivirus programs, add them to the exception list or disable your antivirus protection for a while and see if it's really the cause.

10. And if there are still problems with your game, try to ask the game developer.

Mmm... a few examples of missing the point. 
 
A reviewer that plays a VN, then complains about the lack of gameplay.
 
A reviewer that plays a roguelike and complains about grinding.
 
A reviewer that plays an MMO and complains the people around him in the game talk too much.
 
A reviewer that plays a classic-style console jrpg and complains about the fact that they didn't 'go outside the box' in anything except the story.  (lol)
 
These are all examples of reviews that caused me to form my opinion.  I've had twenty-something years to grow to hate professional reviews, and this is just a small portion of what I mean by 'missing the point' (the extreme versions,
I'll admit but no less true for all that).
 
Edit: This is a tendency any reviewer tends to develop after they've been reviewing for a while.  Heck, I find myself doing it sometimes, though I try to filter it through a 'this is the type of person who would like to play this type of game' filter.

Anyway, back when I was a teen (like a couple of centuries ago) I left my PC on and went off elsewhere.
After like 1 hour I returned only to find my sister playing "True Love" (The dating sim) which I left paused.
I quickly removed her from the premises and told her she shouldn't play this stuff as it wasn't for girls.
She would still sneak in and play whenever I wasn't around and even got to finish it. the H-scenes didn't faze her.

Why WOULDN'T you want Windows 10? 

With regard to the misconception that no translation progress is being made, I refer you to a comment made on our Progress page on April 27th:
 
tl;dr^2: The insufficiency of information on the way we display progress leads one to believe that none is being made, but in actuality, all's cool and we're just too lazy to change it.

Win 10 comes with preloaded codecs for most video formats. It includes .MKV and other less common ones.
Unless you use super obscure video formats, you won't need to install extra codecs on windows 10.
 
Edit: if you watch 10bit anime, you will need extra codecs.

to clarify: Win 10 will launch on July 29th globally.
to clarify #2: Win 10 is now on consumer build phase. I know this because I'm an insider myself. Latest build is quite polished and the issues are minimal.
I exported my VN collection to my win 10 partition and so far 100% of them are working. Here's the list:
