It's kinda funny how former fan-tls want more money even though they used to 'work' for free.

Man, I was just tryna be a good socialist and advocate for living wages for translators. Now we here 

Like, really? Give me the proof that the global histeria about child porn is a leftist idea. Or lead me to those giant shops with pornographic media in major cities in the West. Las Vegas doesn't count. Or to any Western media that combines serious storytelling and porn that is not clearly Japanese-inspired. Those 5 hyper-niche new wave movies don't count. 
You can hardly separate the two outside of literally a few franchises which achieved mainstream popularity. Half of them owned by Spike Chuunsoft which treated its expansion to the West seriously and without aiming at the super-niche VN community, but marketing them as any other games. Most other VNs are weighted down by just the same stigmas and cultural misunderstandings. For people not knowing much about the genre Clannad looks quite similar to any "creepy dating sim" or "hentai game". I didn't say there are easy answers to it, but I think you have a point about trying to please everyone. Because VN companies aren't willing to dedicate themselves to one or another, they keep their whole output is this weird shady corner. If they drop porn, they might gain something in the long run by creating a different image for the genre (or not, because it's reading and other unpopular stuff), but kill themselves in the short run by alienating the eroge fan base. If they do nothing, they'll never break through and are destined to forever barely scrape by. If they just focus on ero... Not sure if they can grow that much as porn games. We're fucked. 
On the other hand, there might be solutions that we didn't think of yet. MangaGamer seem to follow a truly Japanese philosophy of changing as little as it is possible as long as it's even marginally sustainable, so they'll probably not be the ones to come up with one. And there's the issue of number of releases, which is in no way a clear one to me. Would less releases/less competition mean larger profit margins for the companies? Is the market oversaturated? Maybe Sol Press with their "love of the medium" are not really helping the niche, but adding another nail to its coffin? Anyway, my prediction is not a full implosion of the publishing market, but downscaling. The same seems to be happening to the EVN scene (which is very "SJW" BTW) for both related and unrelated reasons. We can all "stop scapegoating" and try to "take responsibility"... But then what? 

The guy does have a choice, yes. he exercised it and you called it narcissism and virtue signalling that he warned others. Your obvious personal distaste for the guy aside, I am failing to understand your point. If the industry cannot survive without exploitation of worker passion, then the industry should not survive. The demand to support higher wages isn't there and MG along with other companies deserve to go out of business. Unfortunately, the VN community is stupidly passionate about working for free and taking for free, so yes, you are right. I doubt much changes. Maybe it's just the fact I study a lot of worker exploitation, have first hand experience with worker exploitation, but I will always supporter someone wanting a livable wage. The translator made a choice and is being paid better by translating mobile games. So I'm glad he made a choice while also telling others where they might be able to make more money and live more comfortably in a different market. 

 

what an asinine remark. the guy merely warned about how shitty the pay is, and the constant cost cutting measures affecting quality. if virtue signalling is "please pay me something livable" and then leaving when the company refuses, then consider me a virtue signaler. if all the employees just keep their mouths shut then nothing changes. If companies like SP and MG are unable to survive without worker exploitation, then they deserve to go under. You seem like the kind of person that would have defended the government for their actions during various union busting exercises. After all, workers were virtue signaling and taking their problems into the public sphere by demanding 8 hour work days.

But, if you manage to polish ittaku's work and release that as a patch, it's still gonna be a great success. This was a beast of a project to pick up, so managing to finish even a half of it is amazing.

Hello again. It's been a long time, and many of you probably thought this project was dead. However, we are still alive, just going through a few changes. I'll list everything that's happened since the last update.
First of all, Hasa is no longer a part of the team. He had many irl stuff to deal with and couldn't contribute as much as he would've liked to the project. So we're without a second translator, and are currently looking for on good enough to work on this project.
Second of all, since we don't have a good enough translator to fill Hasa's boots, the team and I have to decided that we will focus our efforts on finishing the editing and QA of the Main School half of KaniShino and release that as a patch. That means that the Branch School routes' future is in doubt atm, but if we find another translator willing to help us complete that half, then it should be finished.
TLDR: We'll be releasing the main school patch as the final patch unless we find a second editor and translator to help us finish the second half.
Progress will be slow, but I assure you that the Main School patch will come out as soon as we can manage it. Thank you for sticking with us, and we hope you're excited to see the patch.

I'm back with another progress update ^^.
There are both good news and bad news this time, so let's get started with the bad news first.
Our image editor, glupak, has withdrawn from the team. He's too busy irl right now to continue helping us.
Glupak, thank you very much for everything you'd done/edited for us ^^.
On to the good news, I've finished translating all of the texts for the game! Yay!
I'll take another look at it though, in case I missed something. But other than that, I'll probably only be making the patch now, and maybe posting progress update here?
 
Now then, I guess it's time I answered the question some of you have been asking for quite a while now: Will I translate another Eushully VN?
And the answer is ... no, for now. I've spent a little too much time on this project, so I'll take a little break for now (I need some time to clean up my game backlog XD). After that, I'll probably find some other project to work on. I don't know when I'll start again, but if there is any VN you guys would like to have translated, Eushully or not, you can make a post in this thread. I'll take a look at them, and maybe work on them, that is, if I can get my hands on the VN and the tools to extract the text XD.
Another thing is with glupak gone, we have no image editor. Technically, Nylios is switching over to image editing, but even with what glupak has done, there are still a lot of images left. That's why I'll start recruiting for more image editors to help Nylios with the task.

I don't have an editor, my work is a bit closer to that of an editor than a straight-out writer, except in cases when I need to rewrite the entire contents of a given job (it happens).
Edit: I do write fiction for fun, but I don't think I've ever been satisfied completely with it after the world-building phase.

Well, things seem to be heating up a bit, so I'll just put my thought here.
The 'it' I was referring to when I said ' I doubt it'll be a masterpiece' is exactly as Inferno assumed, I was talking about my translation. I feel like it's not exactly my place to say if a VN/game is a masterpiece or not, since a VN/game may be a masterpiece for someone but not for the other. And I'm not really a reviewer or anything like that.
But well, if I have to talk about my opinion of the game, which I think I've said before, then I personally think there are things that could have been better, in both the story and the gameplay. So, I'd say it is not a masterpiece. However, it's not like we can only enjoy masterpieces, right? After all, I did enjoy both of my playthroughs of the game. And well, to be honest, I doubt I'd have been able to keep up this long if I didn't enjoy it XD. That's why if possible, please don't be deterred by whether it's a masterpiece or not, and just enjoy the game ^^.

Don't be modest about your work. I am not 100% certain what you meant by this, but I assume you were talking about the quality of your translation? If yes, then don't worry. Nobody expects a VN fan-translation to read amazingly well like it was written by Jay Rubin himself.

Patricia's first H-scene's translation is done, and we're progressing steadily.
Basically, 686 out of 8586 lines are done. Rounded up, that's almost 8% done.

Well, whatever, guess I'll leave that up to the editor (if I ever manage to get to that stage with this project  )
For now I want to say, that I just finished 5th chapter (some retranslation, and translating the lines missing from official TL), which makes roughly 25% of the whole text.

I threw off the image of the game to one person, tried different ways of hacking the file, but the results turned out to be disastrous.
And yes about Japanese, I’m from Russia and just starting to learn Japanese and I think it's better to learn it later to play calmly, I hope that there is a person (a team of people) who will translate these two visual short stories.

i maybe wrong but i think:
you are unlucky. if you pass some trials, like extracting and decrypting it, and of course it's binary scripts, so you need to demystify it, after editing and repacking it's going to show garbage or crash.
you need demons to patch the exe file, or gods to port it to something else.

Oh, I'll take a guess!  MangaGamer will start developing games using minori's IPs, and minori will sell them!  With the power of friendship, they'll do together what they failed to do alone!

Well, you can only know so much about a person as they're willing to let on. The fact that she, despite being his sister, is surprised by the amount of followers he has proves that point to some extent.
Many people keep quiet about their problems and concerns, choosing to put on a facade that everything's fine for various reasons. It can have some serious consequences, since if noone but you knows what's going on, there's the risk of others not realizing until it's too late how serious the situation really was.

He's pretty much posting an update every month or so here, even if there's no progress to be shown. I don't think anyone should be angry over it. I take this as "there has been no progress, but we are still alive". No reason to be disrespectful toward the team like that.

1) A couple months ago I couldn't work in the project because of college but that's already done, and
2) Work on stuff like UI/text messages isn't being tracked on the total lines.
Also yeah, I prefer to post updates with no progress than no update.
