Haha, I love how this is like the most normal of things but an outsider reacts so harshly to it like it's the spawn of satan.
We're pretty much social outcasts huh.

He just went as far as the shower scene too, would have liked to see him react to the actual h-scene.

Please, Tay. That thing basically invented slavery.
It's better now, but not good. I'd try to offer valid, good criticism on how to improve it, but I can't think of anything besides "this looks bad and should be removed".

ohiowar reacted to Decay in MangaGamer's Message to Fan-translators
I honestly don't like this attitude from MangaGamer. They got burned on ef not because it was fan translated first, but because they completely failed to adequately market it. ef was a lightly popular anime, they could have tried to get fans of the show to pay attention to the VN release, but they didn't. They could have tried to push it to fans of romance as it's a fairly serious romance title, but they didn't. They could have advertised it at common otaku sites like 4chan, but they didn't. They did literally no external advertising for it whatsoever and only told people about it through their own site and newsletters. No shit it failed. They now use this negative experience to campaign against fan translations in general, claiming they hurt the industry. The failings are on their end. When JAST is given a fan translation, they polish the hell out of it and release it better than ever before (the ef script was barely changed in the MG release) and advertise the hell out of it. You could see Saya no Uta ads at a lot of common otaku-frequented sites. MangaGamer should exercise some self-reflection before criticising others.

Their message pretty much comes off as "please stop". Not "don't translate titles from our partners" but "don't release any complete patches for any VNs at all because it makes contract negotiations hard". Meanwhile, Doddler, their twitter idol, is working with Arudoc to release complete translations for multiple games, Maria is working on a complete Rance Quest fan patch, and Cafe ostensibly will finish Aoire Rinne some day. The behavior of their own staff goes against what they say. They should either get their own ducks in a row before standing on a soapbox or shut up, preferably the latter.

I will also say that fan translations obviously have very many benefits for the industry. They suggest that all fan translators only translate trials. I would have never read my first eroge, Fate/Stay Night, if there was only a trial patch available. I would never have given any eroge company a penny of my money if it wasn't for multiple complete translation patches that drew my attention. The industry is still so niche that it can't survive without a thriving fan scene. I can guarantee that MangaGamer would be nowhere if fan translations weren't around and they'd be in serious trouble in the future if all fan translations suddenly ceased. They may seem like an evil to MangaGamer, but at the very least they're a necessary evil as they provide the lifeblood of the industry.

ohiowar reacted to Tay in Some ramblings about anxiety
I've been dealing with anxiety for a long time, and early this morning I had an inexplicable drive to write about some useful tools and concepts which have helped me manage and cope. I don't really have a purpose beyond putting these concepts to paper, but if anyone finds them useful, I'll be doubly glad. (Some parts of this post were taken from an earlier post I made sometime last year) Lastly, if you experience anxiety or depression, I can't recommend enough talking to a doctor. There are quick (~4 mins), effective screenings available to help you better gauge what tools are available to help you in case you need/want them.

    Cartesian Dualism vs. Neuroscience
There's this thing called "Cartesian Dualism", which is better known as the mind/body separation hypothesis, which Western cultures have believed for a long time. The short version: your mind and body are separate from each other. It leads to a lot of misunderstandings and incorrect armchair psychology, and in recent years we've learned that it just isn't true at all. The recent research has shown that the mind and body are very much connected in a single system, and they can influence one another.
There are two divisions of your autonomic nervous system (the part of your nervous system which doesn't control voluntary muscle): the sympathetic nervous system ("fight or flight"), and the parasympathetic nervous steam ("rest"). When the body is stressed (whether that be an impending exam, or a tiger chasing you), your sympathetic nervous system overpowers the parasympathetic, and you go into "fight or flight" mode. Your parasympathetic nervous system is what kicks in when you’re relaxing, or just finished a meal, or giggling on the couch as you read Fate/tay Night. It shunts blood to the gut and body core, dramatically lowers the levels of stress hormones/chemicals in circulation, and it makes you feel at rest. Think of these two systems as a teeter-totter: if one is engaged, the other is dampened.     Anxiety and the Sympathetic Nervous System Have you ever been totally stressed out and somebody tells you, “Just calm down!”? I'm pretty sure it's never, ever worked. Why? Well, largely because you've got a sympathetic overload going on: you've activated responses which are near-identical to what you'd feel being chased by a tiger. That's one of the ways we understand anxiety today: a big sympathetic response.     Why Cartesian Dualism can go to hell When you've got a sympathetic overload going on -- aka, you're feeling extremely anxious -- it's extremely difficult to mentally will your way out of it. There's a reason for that: your brain has labeled your exam, or your job, or [enter your stressor] as a metaphorical "tiger", and just like if a tiger was actually chasing you, you better believe your brain's more interested in you being freaked out and highly anxious so you'll escape the tiger and survive, than it is about your emotional well-being. That's why Cartesian Dualism sucks: it says that since the anxiety is mental, you need to deal with it with mental willpower/fortitude.    Here are the two good pieces of news: Your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems work like a teeter-totter: if one is engaged, the other is dampened You can use your body to activate either one (and in so doing, dampen the other) If you start to breathe fast and clench your fists or exercise, your body's reaction will be to activate your sympathetic NS. But, useful to us, you can also do the opposite: even when your brain is super anxious, you can use your body to activate that parasympathetic NS and force the whole system -- mind and body -- to calm down.

Stuff that has helped me build "Parasympathetic Tone" (also known as "Vagal Tone")
The more you consciously use your parasympathetic NS to overcome sympathetic (anxious) responses, the better you'll get at it. That's sometimes called "parasympathetic" or "Vagus" tone -- it's a play on words referring to how your muscle tone (strength) gets bigger and stronger with practice. Here are a few resources which have helped me:
The most effective thing I've been using lately are these free, guided meditation exercises from UCLA (link). The 5 minute one is my favorite (it's quick and really good). The 20-minute complete meditation is pretty strong potion, so to speak, and I'll use it if things get really bad Herbert Bensen M.D. and many teams in universities across the US and UK have studied/been studying meditation and they've been able to distill the reproducible core of transcendental meditation. If you'd like to try "real meditation" without any of the spiritual or doctrinal overtones from gurus or religions, I'll post the results down below (it's actually pretty wild that thousands of years of meditation practice can be analyzed and reproduced on a single piece of paper) There's a really common stress reversal technique I'll post below. It's not my favorite, but a lot of the people and patients I work with swear by it

    UCLA Meditations: Link

"The Relaxation Response" (reproducible, distilled practices of meditation)

        Stress Reversal Technique
(all of this is stuff I've been learning in med school, but it's definitely not medical advice! There are lots of resources out there if you're dealing with anxiety. Don't let asinine cultural shaming stop you from talking to a doctor and learning more about yourself)

This is a quick guide to get people familiarized with Fuwanovel's mythos. It's very important to know as this is deeply tied with how Fuwans spend their daily lives and you wouldn't want to make a mistake to anger them.

After reading this, I am confident you will understand how Fuwanovel works from the inside out.

      Deities and other notorious figures

    Scottsune Miku

Scott is our lord and savior.
He offers us Domino's pizza and lets us have fun with Hatsune Miku.
Every person on Fuwanovel needs to at least pay him proper respect and thank him for the life they've been given.
He has done many feats in the past such as become the person with the most posts, most profile views, most warning points and most swag. He truly is the definition of a God.
    Praise Scott

    OriginalRun
    #UnbanRun
Run was once banned and forever he shall not be unbanned. So the laws of physics dictate.
Pleading for Run to be unbanned is a natural occurence, but it shall go unheard for eternity.

    Azusa
Azusa is the best grill, she descended from the heavens to save the anime industry and we shall praise her for it.
She is also the most efficient weapon in dealing with TheMajor.

    Asuna
Although the pronounciation is similar, you mustn't mistake Asuna for Azusa, it is a grave offense.
Asuna is the worst grill. Some say she is a direct relative to Satan, I wouldn't be surprised.
You may bash Asuna anytime you'd like.

    Cloudfare
Whenever Fuwanovel stops working, it's cloudfare's fault. No exceptions.

    Pulltop
Notoriously known for destroying OriginalRun's youtube account, Pulltop runs a Yakuza gang that scouts out youtube videos and sends them DMCAs. They are a very dangerous entity and should not be messed with. Some say it was because of the Pulltop Yakuza that Fuwanovel had to take down all their torrents.
They often attract people with cute moege. Beware, this is only a trap to lure you in and get DMCA strikes. Approach with caution.

    Moenovel
The company responsible for the atrocity of a translation that is If My Heart Had Wings.
Everything wrong in the Visual Novel industry can be compared to Moenovel. Moenovel shall always be used when complaining about game translations, in any discussion ever.

    Other Important Objects of Worship

    Milky Holmes
Milky Holmes is the greatest anime of all time. This is ditacted by our lord Scott and mustn't be defied. The only thing better than Milky Holmes is more Milky Holmes

    Bananas
Bananas are Fuwanovel's official fruit. Please eat bananas regularly to stay healthy.

    Pancakes
There is a weapon for every villain. If you ever encounter a subject by the name of solidbatman, know your weapon of choice should always be pancakes.
Pancakes became notorious for fending off against solidbatman after he was subject to torture with pancake overload when streaming Little Busters for over 24 hours. They usually prove quite effective.
When used, pancakes often cause salt to be created

    Salt
Most fuwans produce salt, especially when angered. You can often see salt dripping from threads and posts, it's one of Fuwanovel's more precious minerals and lots of people enjoy collecting it.

    Lolis
Lolis are to Fuwanovel what coal is to a furnace. They keep the site running.

    School Days HQ
The worst visual novel in history. Only the brave try to touch it with a 10 foot pole.

    Spam
Fuwanovel's insides are mostly made of spam, it is the thing that inflates the forum in content as well as people's post count.

    My Blender
    A picture of my blender.

    Fuwanovel Timeline

While hard to grasp for newcomers, Fuwanovel runs on a timeline named Soon
What happens in this timeline is, for every new feature that's annouced, a wormhole is created which causes the creation of that feature to be stuck on a sort of limbo.
Fuwanovel is perpetually threading this Soon timeline.

But it's not to say that the timeline is an infinite loop.

Sometimes, through several riots, Fuwanovel is able to temporarly leap out of the Soon timeline and create something new. But the attraction field surrounding the Soon timeline is very strong so these divergences are scarce and far in between.

Too many riots often also result in Fuwapocalypses

And this is the reason Fuwanovel is in a state of continuous monotony.

I hope with this post you became more knowledgable about Fuwanovel and the magic that goes on behind the scenes.
With this knowledge, you can now become an official Fuwan!

    Praise Scott

ohiowar reacted to Kaguya in Marie's Tld VNs Corner
As everyone knows, I play a lot of VNs.
Clephas has his threads to talk about untranslated works, and they're pretty neat. It's nice to get reviews on releases or just random VNs he plays.
I'm probably the person here with the most knowledge of translated VNs, so I thought "why not give this corner thingy a try".

So, here I am. Whenever I read, re-read or feel like writing about a random VN, I'll post those here. Hopefully the thread will be of some use to get everyone to play some more VNs~

I'll basically introduce some VNs and give my thoughts on them. The introduction part may be a bit boring for the people who know the VN already... But what I'm aiming at here is having people who don't know those VNs play them. If you already know the VN I'm talking about, you're not my target audience. If you can still have fun with the post, that's great, though <3

It'd be kind of weird to post the thread without any mini-review, though...
Well, recently enough, I've been replaying Daibanchou.

Daibanchou is a game mostly reliant on it's strategy RPG gameplay. Simply put, the story isn't good enough to keep you playing it by itself. A mostly generic story and underdeveloped characters make the story not enough to keep you going solely because of it. I would say that differently from some VNs where gameplay is something that complements the story, gameplay is the main focus of the game here. That and H-scenes. There are a lot of them.

Now, Daibanchou is an alicesoft game. That's self-explanatory for many people, but alicesoft has their own, eh, style when it comes to telling a story... And that style is generally convenient wacky bullshit with ok comedy that eventually leads to serious story segments (that will generally revert to the usual wacky bullshit shortly afterwards).

Still, their wacky bullshit is fun. It's not exhaustive to read, and the fights you'll be conducting should be enough incentive on their own to make you pass through those fun moments. In daibanchou's case, you have a badass protagonist with his badass crew fighting their way to conquer Japan and destroy the system to make something new. Meanwhile, our protagonist is recovering special, superpowerful buttons that came from who-knows-where that just turn out to be in the hands of large faction leaders to make his kuu-kinda-tsundere super fast wolf fiance go back to her human form. Getting those buttons will force you to fight your way through tanks, vampires, ninjas and pirates (or religious freaks, depending on which route you pick) and be a badass all through it.

Also, don't mind the fact you do have a fiance. You're free to have sex with anyone. She doesn't seem to care about it. The other girls don't either. You have amnesiac katana-wielding submissive proper japanese girl with super regeneration, try-hard megane class rep who can capture enemies easier, loli doll magical-girl who hits from far away and gives tea to everyone, blonde ojou-sama political-ish leader who inspects countries and has lots of guts and ninja-girl whose route I never bothered to finish (what, reality is tough. I can't know about everyone )

I have this feeling there's another heroine. All of them have separate routes. And there are sex scenes with plenty of characters who aren't those too, just in case you're wondering.

I also feel like I should warn everyone that mandatory rape will happen in this game (though not by the protagonist, differently from Rance).

You're free to follow through all routes whenever you want, except for one of them. Your decision on which place to conquer in the second chapter will permanently seal one heroine route of two. The routes are easy to follow through once the girl appears in your harem (just have sex with her when you get the chance to. It's not hard) but getting the girl to appear in your harem can be troublesome.

Oh, by the way, everyone got their superpowers when a hole to hell (or something like it, anyway) opened up in the middle of Japan a few years before everything started. Except only students got superpowers. Because reasons.

What I told you so far is the basic plot of the game. There's a lot more hidden behind it. The hidden parts of the story are interesting... But all in all, you'll be playing to get the not-so-post-apocalyptic battle royale experience where your small group of badasses fights against small armies and other groups of badasses. All of them with superpowers or some other similar gimmick.

The characters are fun, and even if you dislike them, you just don't have to trigger their events. You can even just fire a character you don't like if you don't want them to be in your army. The game gives you a lot of freedom in that aspect. The soundtrack is pretty neat, and I personally like the style (though I know it's not for everybody).

All in all, if you like this type of thing, maybe you'll want to try out the game. I rated it a 9 because I enjoyed it a lot, though it's probably more of a 7 or 6.

First things First, I am a human being. Don't trust whatever other people say about me, I am a normal human being with a dick aka I am a man. This leads us to the second thing, my name is Hossam. My name means sword in arabic but who needs to know that? I dunno.

    My age... well my age can be found by this equation : x^2 - 32x + 256 = 0
the answer is 16, you don't need to try to solve the equation.

After that, I have been reading visual novels since summer 2013 .... wait a sec... it's already been over a year? I am growing old
What I have read is ... fuck that, you can find it on my vndb, stop being lazy.

How long have I been on fuwanovel? I don't remember T.T, I rarely post here, mostly I just read posts and don't find anything useful to say so I stay away from posting.... they told me that trolling on a forums is bad.

What I waste my time on other than visual novels and anime : fapping , fapping and probably league of legends (addiction T.T)

I think that's enough for an introduction post.

I hope we will all be friends and enjoy our time together before I die or Isis gets me which will be way worse than dying >.>

Fact. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

Maeda Jun gave his own thoughts on what he aimed for when writing each Hscene of Tomoyo After in the visual fan book.

    Taking Little Busters! EX:
Komari and Midori's Hscene are the traditional Key wtf bad end.
Kudo's Kurugaya, first Haruka, Mio, Saya, Sasami, and Rin are normal making love between lovers.
Second Haruka and Kanata add to their character and plot.

Now take Sakuya 18+ version. Of 4 Hscene, 3 are plot important. And the only reason the 4th isn't is because it's tucked away in an after story.

I remember when I thought breaking bones like they did in movies was just a pain you could easily overcome.
I still remember passing out in pain when i broke my shoulder in real life (granted i was way younger but i do not wish to experience that pain again), not fun. I can guarantee you my intelligence and my knowledge of myself would have served no purpose in such a situation, you're underestimating this kind of stuff.

Most human beings think of themselves as special, as more immune to certain things than other humans, a common psychological trait, thus you'll never understand the true severity of something like Ebola until you have it and if you truly think you do then you are being delusional.

But regardless, my thoughts on Ebola-chan is that people are letting it get too serious.
Why are you taking /b/ seriously? That's exactly the issue here. I'm still surprised some news outlets actually take 4chan seriously.
Ebola-chan is just another tasteless joke out of /b/, how many of them have been now? Too many to count.
My only opinion on it is that it has 0 relevance in the world and thus serves no purpose in being discussed, wether it's offensive or not the relevance is the same, nothing. How many people on 4chan mock other serious events around the world? Too many to count.
This is just another dumb joke that /b/ created, let's get over it like the pointless joke it is, shall we?

Hello Fuwanovel, I would like to let you know about a project I've been working on for the past months.
I just now finally started a fundraising campaign on indiegogo so if you feel like supporting me, there is that option.

It is a light novel in the writing style of visual novels (that's why I chose this section, there is no LN talk forum) about all the mysteries of a particular Broken World.
Of course it has some changes since it is in a book format and so the lines can be longer and are not limited to the game window, but the feeling I am aiming for is the same as of a VN.

Anyways to read more about the project and all the options to support it, please visit:

A PROMISE FROM THE BROKEN WORLD - PROJECT PAGE

UPDATE: second part of chapter 1 (following the events of the prologue) is available HERE

And one more time as a reminder, only donate to the project if you want to support me. It is after all not only a project for this one novel but also a project to give me a chance to show what I am truly capable of and help me become even better at it.

Please also use this topic to ask any questions about me, the project, the style used, the story and the characters or even the funding options. I will do my best to answer them thoroughly while avoiding any spoilers of the key events of the book (at max it will be some very vague hint in a spoiler tag).

And lastly... May the love and the lolis be with you~
