Canicheslayer reacted to zxdvas in Would VN ever recieve a Nobel Prize?
I stress the word "ever" so it is irrelevant if any VN published to date qualifies. This is meant as a hypothetical question of if VN would ever be in the same league as fiction, play, poetry etc as serious literature. Granted it is a commercial product and the script alone won't make a good VN just as a film is not defined solely by its play. But we have made enough assumptions so we may as well neglect the real world.
If this is too void to discuss, I can paraphrase it: Does Stein's Gate deserve a Nebula Award if it was published as a fiction? I would personally say it amassed more fame than most science fiction, though I am aware of being misleading. Unable to add more, I pass the time to the more informed and perspicuous.

    Hi.
After reading Kazoku Keikaku I was taken aback by poor editing of the later part of the game. Thinking about re-editing it into something more readable, I tried to extract the scripts from the game. Unfortunately I ran into the wall pretty quickly.
The only tool that was able to do anything was ArcTools. It recognizes ISF files, has even built-in template for Family Project. Unfortunately it was only able to decompile dialogue lines, omitting everything else (narration, character names over spoken lines etc etc). It produced a bunch of files with content like this:
    :: word wrap line after, characters=50 :: - <7B79, 0006> "......"= - <8296, 0006> "Ai ya~"= - <8458, 0006> "..."= - <8948, 0006> "Hey, are you alive?"= - <89B2, 0006> "...mmm..."= - <8DA7, 0006> "Hey, what's wrong?"= - <8E89, 0006> "Are you okay? Can you get home by yourself?"= - <8F23, 0006> "..."= - <902D, 0006> "Ah..."= - <9109, 0006> "... Wo ... xiang yao ... yi bei ... shui."= - <923D, 0006> "Ai ya..."= - <92EF, 0006> "Hey."= - <94A9, 0006> "What happened?"= - <9A31, 0006> "Damn it."= - <9BC4, 0006> "But now isn't the time to be saying this."= Completely unusable.
"AE VN Tools" is able only to extract files from main archive, but they stay in encoded form - its script module isn't working, so it cannot decompile scripts.
On the AE page, I stumbled upon a pack of python scripts that are supposed to decompile and compile ISF scripts, and also convert them into Ren'py. Unfortunately - they crash

I just finished reading Chuusotsu as my 75th overall read and it was great. It had really funny comedy, which was refreshing to see, great character interactions and dialogue, a lot of darker themes that were well-analyzed for how short the VN was, and a refreshing bit of no romance in a VN for once. Despite these, it did have a weird final act that was a little ridiculous to me and one issue, I felt they could handle better as I started sympathizing with the opposing viewpoint to what the VN wanted, but that's probably because of my viewpoint as a whole. Gave Chuusotsu an 8.2/10 and definitely recommend it to anybody who's looking for an SoL-based VN that's more than meets the eye and is hilarious as well.

I was too pretty surprised how on point the humor in Chuusotsu was. The comedic timing is really good and I like how there is even witty retorts baked in to the narration itself.
The more serious/darker parts are well done too. The setting is really interesting in a fucked-up way, and through that Chuusotsu has important things to say about having dreams and "what is expected of you vs. what you personally want". Plus I've been in very similar dark places as the protagonist Arue, so many of the themes hit very close to home. I'm very curious about the continuation.

Rewrite was my first ever vn and I think I re-read every single route 8 times in total (don't judge me). I'm guessing I clocked about 700 hours in total on that game, way more than any other vn I've played.

Another VN that I haven't re-read but understand completely that it is a fucking masterpiece is Dies Irae, like c'mon everything in that VN is top notch from cgs to character development to fight scenes.

Another favorite of my mine is Majikoi, as you can probably tell from the pfp XD

However Most might not agree with my last one, World End Economica (WEE) is an amazing trilogy that I feel is severely underrated. The economic jargon is explained through meaningful and interesting examples, the character development of the main cast might feel subtle to some but is honestly really well done, and the conflict and emotional attachment between members of the cast feel incredibly realistic. Most of all,

Once again sorry for not so creative title there lol. Anyway we got last chapter of Supipara (For now) released, and this time the main heroine of this chapter was our half French tsundere who managed to said 'kill' in one conversation Hotaru Angeline Amano. What I knew is that this time we gonna get knew more about Hotaru's past, which should be more interesting compared to Sakura. Oh, and there's also a mysterious character appearance as well. Well have fun and feel free to discuss this, also here's both of Mangagamer and Steam link if you want to purchase it.
PS - I just saw Steam opening, and I think it's pretty exciting now that we knew the identity of our two remaining heroines for both of Passion and Love Chapter. For the info, Passion Chapter will be focused on our masochist miko Momiji, and Love will be focused on our new mysterious character. I look forward to the eventual release of the last two chapters, although it might be take long time (Maybe at 2022 lol). By the way Steam opening did still have 2D animation, although it didn't have good lighting as eden and ef though (Understandable).
PPS - For seiyuu info, Hotaru was voiced by Yamada Yuna who is pretty much experienced in voicing minori VNs (Yuuko from ef and Elicia from eden). Although recently she did more work for non minori VNs such as Jounouchi Makoto from Chrono Clock and Fujita Konron from Majokoi.

Canicheslayer reacted to TexasDice in [EDIT: Polls added!] Fureraba ~Friend To Lover~ released on Nutaku! (notable feature: Uncensored adult CGs)
Okay, I finally slogged through this waist-high puddle of rainbow colored puke and happiness, so I feel like a proper sloppy write up from me is in order. If only because I haven't done it for a while.

Fureraba is... Thoroughly enjoyable! As others have alluded to, it's a competent hybrid between a moege and a dating sim, which drops the two most common and also most annoying parts of both genres; The melodrama and on-screen numbers respectively. Fureraba pretty much nails what it what it wants to be, which makes recommending it pretty easy: Are you interested in hours of flutty girlfriend fantasy and are you okay with not much substance outside of that? If yes, dive in and if not, never touch it. Pretty easy, as I said. The few writing things that I will point out is the humor/language. I found the humor mostly chuckle worthy with a fair share of good ol' knee slappers. But a few times, the language was really... eh... blunt, which turned me off sometimes (especially that opening scene, oh my god did I cringe). Expect to be hit by "youthful" words like a sledgehammer. No comments on translation-faithfulness, because I don't know shit about that.

Can't think of a clever segue, so let me get the technical stuff over with: The font "bug" is annoying, especially because it translates to other font choices, so it might take some eye-adjusting to get used to. I recommend turning the window transparency lower than you might be used to, because it makes non-bordered lines easier to read. As far as the other options go, it's what you would expect from a semi-modern VN, I can't think of any particular option I am missing, but I'm personally not into settings. Gimme volume scales and an "always inside" option and I'm good. Oh, that I might be missing.

Speaking of getting graphic, the art. Yada, yada, art is subjective, yada yada yada, check the screenshots whether you like it or not.  For me, the sprites are passable, the CGs are fine (give me very strong moonstone vibes for some reason) and the backgrounds are good. What brings me to even talking about this subject, is the "customization" I mentioned previously. 3 of the 4 girls can have their hairstyle adjusted and will wear a multitude of different outfits through the reading experience, which is actually hella neat. That shows that somebody, somewhere in the production cared enough to commission extra art. Which isn't free, because even "swapping" a hairstyle from a CG takes consideration in terms of layers, lighting and having the foresight to draw a CG considering different hair placements.

More customization is found in the soundtrack. For usual purposes, there's enough tracks in this soundtrack and they are decent. People who like lyrical OSTs will be disappointed, not a lot of voice work in the music. The thing I wanted to point out, is that all the heroines have a [friend] and a [love] version of their individual themes. Which I think is pretty neat, the friend version are more upbeat and the love versions more sparkly. (Except for Rina, who for some reason gets a sick bass when falling in love.  )

The spoilers window will talk very briefly about the characters. Rating the routes is almost pointless, because all of them have basically the exact same structure and there isn't a complex story anywhere either, so I primarily focus on the girls. liked Misaki the most, followed by Rina, Yuzuyuzuyuzuyzuyu at third and Himari at lowest. They're all good girls.
Anyway, nothing really important to spoil in here, but I recommend „uncovering“ the fourth girl yourself rather than looking her up, because the setup for that is fun.

That's it. Why did I waste my time writing this instead of reading more "pretend to not be lonely and sad for 10 hours"-porn games on my computer?

Yuzuyuzuyuzuyuzuyuzuyuzuyuz's "big backstory"-moment was kind of weird. Like, there was no setup for
Yeah, that was kind of strange, especially when in Rina's story all of that flowed way more natural. But in the end, it's one 10 minute scene after 8 hours of lovey-dovey sugary romance so I won't remember that as a big dealbreaker.

Also, I have to give Smee credit for what I call "putting all the money on screen". Giving you the choice of hairstyle for multiple characters and having them swap outfits for every date, while applying those customizations to the CGs too is not cheap and not easy to do.
I vividly remember how Sakura Spirit couldn't even bother to make new sprites for the kimono-festival scene (I'm not sure if it was, but I wouldn't be surprised if that scene was actually called "kimono-festival"-scene in the script), leading to the main characters holding invisible weapons.
Paying artists (or a sweatshop full with children) ain't cheap, so probs to Fureraba.
EDIT: Misaki is a precious cinnamon bun and needs to be loved.

    Fureraba ~Friend to Lover~
    Summary
    Springtime.
The season of the cherry blossoms, and a time of new beginnings, new encounters, and new people.
For Aoba Kyousuke, this new season marks the start of his second year in high school, and after taking a moment to reflect, and looking at the friends around him...
All he can find is a dumbass too horny for his own good, and a weirdo who can't get over his strange fetish for lizard-humanoid creatures.
Sure enough he enjoys hanging out with them, and he wouldn't ever think of giving it up,
but something feels missing. A precious, valuable part of everyone's adolescence, and something he might just miss out on at this rate...
What is that something? Why, love. So upon realizing this, he shouts out to the world--
    "I WANT A GIRLFRIEND!"
He'll need to give it his all, of course, because he knows that love does not come to those who just wait.

Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order
There are four heroines. In order to get into the routes proper, you must select the heroine in the choice screen (when available) and then select to talk about topics that interest her.
This walkthrough will, among other things, clarify which topics interest a heroine. By selecting the topics within the walkthrough you will always receive a decent amount of affection and you may choose any combination of topics that interests you.

    Walkthrough
Talk topics will be in brackets [] with the relevant questions for any heroine underneath between quotes "". Sometimes these questions will lead to further questions, which will be indicated by -->.
Some questions seem to provide more affection, so I'll mark those with (EXTRA). (Will be removed in the final version of the guide)
Not all possible questions will be presented, but there are enough that you will be able to move to the next stage.
NOTE: For some of the girls, when you have one at stage 4 and another at stage 3 a jealousy short scene will display.

Well the translation quality is pretty good, atleast i never had any trouble in understanding anything and they did not westernize it too much like Chorno Clock did.
Misaki's route was also pretty fun, her route broke some usual cliches which was nice to see
It was fun to see how she gradually grew closer and closer to the MC, there was no stupid drama in the route either which was nice for a change, I realy hate forced drama esp break-up drama, it ruins the mood (Looking at you Hatsukoi 1/1)

I heard Rina's route is the best written so i've been saving her for last, she was a fun character in the common route
