Hayashi got a reaction from Hanate in Learning Japanese for VN reading?
I have always been seeing people complaining about translation patches and stuff like where is the 18+ release. And was wondering, the time people spent on doing nothing but waiting for patches can be used to learn Japanese instead, so why not just do it?  It's never too hard to learn anything really, just be committed and stick to what you are doing, then one will eventually reach their goal.
I won't be able to give input on this as I am half Japanese, so learning it as a foreign language doesn't apply to me. But what do you guys think?
Learning Japanese just for VN reading or too much effort for a hobby?

Hayashi reacted to OriginalRen in Learning a language for a hobby is retarded
You know, a person who chooses to learn a language has every right to choose why they want to learn a language. The fact they want to take the time to learn a language, even if it's just for a single core skill (reading, writing, listening, speaking), makes them that much better of a person to begin with in my eyes. When I was in middle school, learning a second language was one of the most pleasurable experiences of my life. Going into high school, I expanded that further and decided to major in French and Italian language studies when I reached college. I enjoyed it so much, that I ended up taking Latin, German, and ancient Greek for fun. Oddly enough, I ended up learning Italian because of a friend I met in an online game. I spent 5 years of my life learning a language, which included studying abroad my freshman year, all because of a silly game online. I don't even speak to that person anymore or know what happened to them.
As a teacher of Japanese students, I can confidently say that everyone has a reason for learning a language. While most 2D animated fans outside of Japan hope to expand their reading skills, that doesn't mean they are retarded for wanting to do so. A lot of Japanese students only care about speaking English, and the comparison between cultures is what makes me respect language that much more. While it does make me sad thinking they are missing out on so much more by ignoring the other core skills, who is anyone to judge? Learning a language is a very difficult task, and even if some people find it a lot easier than others, it still takes time and effort. To those who want to learn Japanese for a hobby, I respect them for making an effort to begin with.
Teaching ESL and EFL is an entirely different beast. The people who enjoy this hobby aren't required to learn Japanese, yet they do it out of pure excitement and enjoyment. Growing up, we've all had a dream, and even if that dream has changed at some point in our life, something still exists. Why call those who want to learn a language for a hobby they love retarded? I've taught preschoolers who don't even know their native language, and even then I can see the excitement on those children's eyes. I've talked with their mothers and I can tell they aren't doing this for their child's future, but because they want them to enjoy something and be excited. Even if you don't love kids, there really is a joy to seeing someone's face light up when they are having fun.
And it's not just the kids. I've taught English to business students, a Japanese history professor for Korean students, a husband and wife who have some spare time, and lonely widows hoping to meet new partners in their life. I've taught elementary schools, junior high school girls, and high school students who don't even know what they want to do when they get older. It doesn't matter their age, the joy I feel as a teacher knowing they have reached that "ah-ha!" moment in their life and the excitement they feel being able to use the language for the purpose they want is all that matters. A lot of VN and anime fans don't show it, but I promise that at some point they have felt the excitement about being able to finally read or use Japanese in some way or another. Nobody is retarded for that; nobody should feel worse than they already are in a hobby that a lot of people find appalling to begin with.
Language is a wonderful thing, and I feel those who want to learn it for whatever reason they feel like deserve a great amount of encouragement. While I wish individuals would expand their language learning beyond a single core skill, I always need to remind myself that the joy of being a teacher is watching your students grow. It doesn't matter their age, hearing their stories is always a joy. Nobody is retarded for learning a language, and should never, ever feel that way.

Yep that's the question. There was this argument in one of the VN communities yesterday and this particular person by the name of, DM (initials, don't want to disclose names)
It was a Steins gate 0 English release thread, and this was pretty how it triggered the title question.  PS: Aga is my lad.
So what do you guys think about his statement? IMO, learning anything for anything is never retarded, we should all learn new stuff and move forward.
I will use myself as an example, I learned JP to read VNs initially, and now I can read any VN without problem I decided to expand my knowledge and are planning to attend UNI in Japan next academic year and see what I can start over there. Maid cafe.....

The English TL requirement does make the list a bit shorter... Well, first of all there is the SonoHana series, (games 1-10 are TLed, as well as another on the way from Mangagamer.)
Then there is Lilium x Triangle and Sugar's Delight. Lastly, you can also check out the Raidy series. These are a bit unique, as they are dungeon crawler games, but they are quite nukige-like, with lots of juicy H content- you just have to fight for your porn through solving mazes and shit. (Go for Raidy III for the best content, 1-2 are quite old and the amount of content you get for your money isn't the best.) You also have  Sakura Dungeon, which is a slightly lower quality dungeon crawler.
Also have to mention Atom Grrrl!! and Sacrament of the Zodiac. These aren't really pure nukige, but they are shorter titles with several H-scenes.
Hopefully this list has some games you haven't played yet.

Mmm... what can I say to this, except that... you actually listen to what people say on Steam?  That's like actually paying attention to 4chan posts...
Another thing, people who complain about cut h-content are anti-censorship and so they have that self-righteous rage making them spew stuff that is counter-productive (I figure Valve will eventually put up a separate 'adult' content section for those of you who really want the stuff if it can be proved there is enough demand to justify the risk of putting up adult content... and it is a risk) or that they don't even really mean (I mean, it isn't like an inveterate pirate is going to buy anything in the first place).
Another thing you should keep in mind is that there is no point in one-sidedly bashing content other people like.  The Sakura series has made me smile wryly or in disgust frequently in the past, but they are just catering to the moe-ero addicts.
Also, people who complain about prices for a download version are pretty much a universal plague on all digital gaming communities.  Yes, there is absolutely no reason to pass the costs of non-existent production to the consumers, but companies will keep doing so from now until the end of the world, no matter how much people complain.  That doesn't mean that there is any point in getting emotional/raging about it yourself, lol.

I often like to read something fresh, and with shock value.
It was a pleasant surprise, before reading any trap VNs. I was not expecting much (Well it's just cute boys). Now I am about half way into Josou Kaikyou it's really not that bad, they are pretty cute, super flat (oohhh no shit but I like flat chest short hair characters, Asuho from Hoshimemo but I am not into traps(?)) also voiced by female actresses.
One important factor is to learn how to ignore the sausage, just try to not see it and imagine it's not there. And you will perceive them as cute flat girls, and doing it in the wrong hole.

Hayashi got a reaction from Nier in Popular VNs on Steam
So let's get this straight, I dislike the fact that popular/great VNs are slowly entering the steam market. To me, it's not the platform itself, but it's cancerous community with those AAA games elites, price complainers, "and ples where is the hentai?" groups of people. And what's more, I don't want to see high quality VNs in the same store as OELVN, they ain't comparable. What prompted me was last time when I was browsing through Meikyuu steam community, I have seen some many posts complaining and nagging about the prices.
"novel games are over priced" "not paying 20$ for cut H game" "kajitsu is longer why dis same price"
Stuff like this really triggers me, do you secondary weeb (oh no here we go) know how much I am paying for every original hard copy VN? To the point where I am starting to think these people don't deserve to even be able to view VN, tho it might be going against Fuwa ideals. And I ma moving towards the learn JP or don't read it, path.
What do you guys think? Fuck you Sakura series, little shitty misrepresentation of a VN to the West.
