ittaku got a reaction from Suzu Fanatic in What Anime are you watching now?
In response to this thread:
where people were raving about Shinsekai Yori, I felt obliged to watch this through.
I can see why people were raving about it since the production quality and execution is very good. However I think there's a tendency to overrate shows (in my opinion) that are dark, horrific, nasty, unpleasant, shocking, disturbing... etc. but that just doesn't resonate with me. This show started out dark and just remained dark throughout the whole thing. There wasn't much in the way of emotional journey besides remaining dark from start to end and, I hate to say it, but it was mostly predictable, right up to the conclusion, even if the writing and execution was very good 8/10. Still rates well overall though, but not in my top 5. I certainly wouldn't want to sit through it again.

ittaku got a reaction from TigerNex in VN comes alive
Any VN that turns me into one of those superhumans that can have permanent boners on demand and infinite successive ejaculates that put out a litre of semen every time.

ittaku got a reaction from bigfatround0 in Kodomo no Jikan manga to attempt a 2nd localization through crowdfunding
Not really. Hentai is just 2D regular porn. It is not surprising that anything that even has a hint that it might sexualise children is considered not worth the risk of such a high profile online service in the west. Just because the author, reviewer, readers and most of Japan don't think this is pedo porn, doesn't mean that the west won't see it as such.

Alright I'll add some more then. My top 5 of the last 5 years.

ittaku got a reaction from Bolverk in Lipschultz talks translation
What's unfortunate is that this shouldn't even be newsworthy. Most people who demand a more literal translation are those who only understand a little Japanese and think that the translation isn't conveying the original meaning because they get hung up on grammar and words and essentially aren't understanding what is being conveyed to native Japanese speakers. The most telling part is that when a translator's native language is English, the more Japanese they know, the more natural sounding English their translation is.

ittaku got a reaction from Makudomi in Anime that you want in VN or vise-verse....
Acknowledged. The two art forms are very different and rarely does one translate into a good version of the other. Basically you choose heroines sequentially in most VNs, and unless you choose only one true route for anime, or do "alternate universes" as some anime have done, then you can't really give it the same attention - instead you end up with a "status quo is god" http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StatusQuoIsGod harem where no heroine wins, and the hero remains a virgin for all eternity... and I'm so sick of that formula that I can barely watch anything like that any more. Conversely one route anime doesn't translate into multi-route VNs. To heart 2 is my staple since I translated it, and it has 9 routes as a VN but an eternal-virgin in anime form...

ittaku got a reaction from LeonidasTan in Visual Novels about debating
Odd, looking for a visual novel about debating. Normally we'd be debating about visual novels.

I had exactly the same experience with Ponyo. It was the most beautiful rendition of the little mermaid ever - a story I otherwise couldn't care less about.

oh my fucking dawkins, i just watched Ponyo and it is without a doubt my new favorite film of all time.
there was literally not a single moment where i was not either grinning uncontrollably, tearing up with joy or sighing out of pure bliss
it was also the first piece of media besides key vns to get me past the sob-point, which to me is like an ultimate seal of quality
so much for target audience, eh?

ittaku got a reaction from Fred the Barber in What Anime are you watching now?
Started watching Kaleido Star in an attempt to recreate the magic of Cross Game. It's not quite as good as cross game but it's still so engaging I'm having marathon sessions and will watch all 51 episodes in no time... Not many shows have that quality that makes you smile so much while watching them.

ittaku got a reaction from Okarin in Most annoying anime plot device of all time
Well it is the country where nipples are made of soap bubbles and every tripping male doesn't follow the normal laws of physics and goes through a dimensional portal that always makes him end up on top of a girl with his hand on her boobs.

ittaku got a reaction from Lumaria in Most annoying anime plot device of all time
I've decided at last what anime plot device annoys me more than anything ever conceived. Since I'm a huge romantic comedy/drama fan, the most annoying plot device of all time is the character, be it hero, heroine or side-kick, that mumbles under their breath something that amounts to a love confession that the other person doesn't hear and when asked about it says 何でもない "Don't worry about it" or, "no, it's nothing"... and then 450 thousand episodes later still is unable to actually convey said emotion.
Anyone else want to describe their pet peeves in anime?

This, or when something happens in an episode that seems to be setting things up for something to happen between the obvious romantic pair and then some bullshit misunderstanding/mixup on either character's part sets things back to square one for them until further notice because "status quo".

ittaku got a reaction from Okarin in VNs with the best romance routes?
Taste is very much in the eye of the beholder.
To heart 2 - 9 romantic routes of the usual high school duration (2-3 months). All routes contain very different girls, though "conquering" is rather straight forward, but the protagonist behaves slightly differently to suit each route. Each route only has one (long) H scene close to the end.

ittaku got a reaction from Freestyle80 in Visual Novel Kinks, Tropes, Cliches, Stereotypes, and Common Logic Flaws you are tired of seeing
Plenty of ones I agree with already mentioned. In addition - I can't stand when a beautifully executed romance and touching sex scene then deteriorates into doing it in public places.

ittaku got a reaction from SajkoWolfe in New forum theme incredibly slow
Thanks! I'll have a play with them. My theme was set to temporal - by the way I'm on a 4k monitor with 140dpi scaling so perhaps the issue only shows up because of the massive scaling going on at that resolution, though other sites never have this problem (and my hardware is ridiculously OP so it's not a hardware issue).
Problem solved, FuwaFabulous was fine, thanks!

To Heart 2. High school, romance, 9 routes, 11 girls.
