Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego

I sadly don't have much time for reading outside of the reading I already do, and I try to only read in Japanese when I can. However I think this is a great idea, especially with how many amazing classics are available in the public domain. I heartily recommend the following, which can be found easily either on Wikisource or Project Gutenberg:
 
Flatland
The Pilgrim's Progress
Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
The Wizard of Oz
Down and Out in Paris and London
 
There are tons and tons of others but I don't want to drown you in book names so I picked some of my favorites that aren't crazy long.
 
Oh and almost everything by H. P. Lovecraft is available so please make sure to read some of his stories, maybe around Halloween.

So... there is a vn reading club so why not one for books? I'm really bad at creating topics and doing this kind of stuff but I'll try to do my best, anyone can replace me if they want to because I'm sure they will do a better job.
 
This month or maybe for this week I propose a really short book that left me speechless the whole way through that I was reading it and it's really short (only a couple of hours of reading)

1 Litre no Namida  is a dramatic tragedy diary written by Aya Kitō published shortly before her death.
 
The diary, a true story based on her own life, was originally written in first person. It is about a girl coping with her teenage life along with a degenerative disease. She keeps a diary of not only what she does but how she feels and the hardships she must endure. Initially, the diary's purpose was for Kitō to chronicle impressions she had about how the disease was affecting her daily life. As the disease progressed, however, the diary became Kitō's outlet for describing the intense personal struggles she underwent in coping, adapting, and ultimately trying to survive her disease. As she notes in one entry, "I write because writing is evidence that I am still alive."

Anyone can submit books and we can make a pool for the next one, I think short books would be better but anything goes as long as you can download  buy them on the internet...

(Don't take the following whatever I am about to write seriously either... it is just my inner-chuuni slowly taking over. xD )
 



I have lost nine Moemon as of this moment, five of which came from the one sided slaughter known as Brawly. In the instant we stepped up to the plate against him, I knew my previous assessment was the mere idling of an immature child. The battle destroyed my pure soul, as in my not-yet tarnished worldview, everything was going just fine... when suddenly everyone was dead. To be perfectly honest, I left my town an innocent boy; naive to the cruel ways of this warped world. I truly thought we were ready for him, but alas, I was mistaken. Innocence was crushed under the steel boot of reality; my naivety torn asunder.
So, I made a vow of folly in my heart as I finished burying the last of my fallen comrades.
...
To stand together with my Moemon at the precipice of the world and throw down the curtain on this butchery. I truly thought I could toss this world into the abyss, and shatter the very ideals that hold it up!
...
Much to my vexation...  even something I thought to be so simple could never be done. Time after time, I had to accept some messed up ideal of "necessary loss" in order to save the rest. But for what? To watch my friends die... over... and over again...?
That can't be right!
...
My petty vow only ended in the deaths of two more of my friends... and even when I gave up on such childish dreams... the world continued to take from me.
...
So I'll tell you this, friend. My bonds with my companions are as true as the life you now hold. We watch out for one another, care for one another, and travel this sick and twisted world searching for our collective raison d'etre. A step at a time we now move forward, regardless of anything else... and if one of us falls, a part of the rest of us dies with them. And now... I won't let some sick travesty of what is Just take hold of my actions once again!

Therefore, I will live for my Moemon, come whatever may! If the world strikes once more at us, we'll strike back with the force of a thousand more in equal form. I won't let this cacophony of sorrow and despair take hold of our paths, throwing us down like so many before us...

I wanted to write more... but it is 4 AM and I am dead exhausted.
Writing in chuuni for too long is utterly exhausting... I'm telling ya. xD

Edit: And actually have fun RELAXING and stuff... I also have some stuff I never finished in Crystal as well... I should play that after Emerald...

Enjoying books is all about escapism. When reading you can disconnect yourself from the real world and go off somewhere else for a while without using drugs or being crazy.

Brawly's moemons were all rekt by my Taillow - Wingull combination.
I guess trial and error is really good in some situations. I know shit about non-elemental type weaknesses.

Rules
1) Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
 
2) The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else.  (Feel free to ignore duplicates, because that would just make the game boring.)  "Catch" being the operative word, so traded, glitched-in, or cheated-in Pokémon are not allowed.  They must be native to your game and legitimate.
 
There are optional rules available, in case you want to spice things up, but you must follow the two most basic rules.  Of course, these rules can only be enforced by yourself, and as such you are on an honor code.  Please don't abuse this, it'll ruin the fun.
 
Not an official rule, but you should name your Moemon to give their possible "deaths" the most emotional impact possible.  Saving before every battle as insurance is just lame, and while it's not explicitly against the rules (it definitely kills the spirit of the game), if you do this, you are a scrub that needs to git gud.
 

 
Please take pictures of your team and show them off, and keep everyone updated on your progress!  It's no fun unless we can mourn the loss of your beloved Moemon as a group

If you are repeatedly getting a white screen upon loading the ROM with VBA-M, click Options -> Emulator -> Save Type and switch it from Flash 64 KB to Flash 128 KB, then click File -> Reset, and it should work normally.
 
If you want to be able to grow berries and have different tides in certain areas, click Options -> Emulator -> Real Time Clock.

Moemon + Nuzlocke challenge sounds really cruel and exiting, now I kinda want to do it. I can already imagine all the heartbreaking stories.

Moemon+Nuzlocke challenge would actually be amazing and heartbreaking.
Nuzlocke Challenge has two rules:
1. You may only catch and keep the first Pokemon you run into in each new area
2. If a Pokemon faints it is 'dead' and you must release it
 
There are varying levels of difficulty, like just putting Pokemon into storage instead of releasing them, not counting duplicates if you run into the same Pokemon first in two different areas, whether you can use items or not and Pokemon centers or not, whether you perma-die if you ever lose all your Pokemon or stuff like that, but the main two rules are always constant.
 
It's suggested that you name all your Pokemon too since it helps you form a stronger bond with them.
 
Basically a Nuzlocke Challenge forces you to work with what you have and treat your Pokemon more carefully than you would if you were just playing normally. It makes them feel more like actual pets and less like just numbers that you throw at other numbers. Just imagining doing that with Moemon and I think I'd legit cry if any of them died.

I have no idea what that is, but it would probably interest me as well.
Though I'm only playing Moemon.

Soulblazer, Actraiser, FF2 and 3, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger on the SNES
Final Fantasy Legend 2 and 3, Final Fantasy Adventure, Kid Icarus and Metroid 2 on the Gameboy.
 
Soulblazer is kind of an overlooked gem so if you haven't tried it out please do.

Tell them that 'without love it cannot be seen' is pretty much the best hint the game will ever give you.

After my trip to Iceland I have always wanted to write something about it, and I believe visual novels are a great platform that can aid the text with wonderful visuals and sound. It is going to be a 2-hour game with around 10 backgrounds. Instead of trying to incorporate every highschool niche character, this visual novel will focus on the interaction between the protagonist and one female character. We hope you would like her.
